James

James didn't react as she snapped at him. He saw this coming, who would really accept that this kind of thing would happen. But James didn't care about optimism, or hope at all. He was one that always prepared for the worst. In the end he usually got the worst, so he learned fast not to expect the best of any circumstance. When she refused the gun he retracted his arm from inside the car and just looked over to her over the hood of the car. " Your optimism is just like anyone else would have. Thinking someone will help us or that this is only a fluke, that it will eventually end all of the sudden, or that someone will stop it.." He said in a calm but stern tone. "I don't want to believe this either, but so far the impossible has already happened....the dead don't get up and walk..yet they have. In a situation like this, the moment word got out our town would be cut off and quarantined in a hole hell less than 12 hours. " he said putting his hand with the gun to the side and walked around the front of the car to her. " I'm not going to sit around and hope for someone to come in a save me, I'm not waiting for help from the military because the fact is, If this is happening here we were not the first place it started, It is a major factor that it may just be happening every where...if not than it is spreading and fast. " he said taking a breath and letting it out. With his open hand, James reached out and grabbed hold of Clarissa's hand and placed the gun in it and closing her fist. " And I'm not going to just lay down and die, even if it ends up our world has became a hell. " he said taking his hands away from her, leaving the gun in her hand. "It's easy, point and pull the trigger. The safety is off so you don't have to worry." He said turning from her and his pace quickened, half running to his door. " It has 6 bullets in the clip, be careful of the shots. Try the head...now come on." He said stiffly, as if he didnt' want to wait any longer. He looked at his door and noticed it was pushed slightly open.. 'Here we go..' He thought to himself.

Clarissa Rivers
Student and Waitress (Midnight Angel Bar)

She was only to gasp for a moment before James shared a momentary glimpse of his own mind to Clarissa. She was only able to listen to him silently as he said his thoughts - about the unlikely arrival of the military and not sitting around for rescue. She slowly put her hand across her mouth and then slowly shook her head in rejection. Of course, she wanted to be as optimistic as possible. She wanted to believe that somehow, somewhere, someone was going to save them from this personal hell of Coheed. She wanted to believe. She wanted to hold on. She wanted to live on.

When people are struck by horror, their perspective widens. When people are caught off-guard by something so horrible, their thoughts slowly reduce to pieces and logical choices. Emotions became a hindrance and disadvantages were severely taken into account. To someone like Clarissa who wanted to see a world full of roses and grass pastures, holding on to the last optimism was her only hope of surviving this event.

When he reached for her hand, Clarissa turned back into the present situation and then realized that James was handing her a gun. She gulped and then took a decent amount of time to look at his eyes. "And I'm not going to just lay down and die, even if it ends up our world has became a hell." He said at her and then pulled his hands away from her, lending Clarissa a glimmer of his personalized optimism. She looked at the gun and then understood. Whether James was implying that he was unlikely to hold on to hope and optimism, she saw through his own defense and saw a more likely story.

James, a young man of seventeen or eighteen, was holding on to the last optimism, too. Clarissa thought of this as she gazed at the gun at her hand and then shifted to James again. Actually, she thought that his optimism was stronger than hers and that she was sure of it. James' will of survival was stronger than her. That's one of the brilliant battle of logicality and irrationality. Clarissa was holding on to emotions, ones that kept her sane, while James was holding on to logic, one that kept him sane AND moving on to survive.

Slowly, she clenched her chest and then felt another surge of tears. However, she slowly got up from the car and then followed James as he half-run to his house. She looked at him for the longest of time, not speaking, and then realized something. Perhaps...

Perhaps, a new hope was the same one as James. Yet, did she have the powers to follow that hope? Did she have the power and strength to hold on to that last optimism that was the way for her rose-filled future?

James noticed Clarissa didn't say anything after he spoke to her. From that reaction he didn't know what was on her mind. Maybe she disagreedh with him more, or hated his thinking. But right now it didnt' seem that important to him. He gave the gun taken from the person at the apartment earlier to Clarissa, so now he was defenseless. All he had now was his fighting, although it wasn't professional, but he got into alot of fights at school. So a roughly moving zombie would be easy enough to fight off then run.

James looked behind him spotting Clarissa then looked forward at the door, starting his way to it. "Be ready...I didn't leave the door open when I left." he said watching the door carefully. Carefully, he pushed open the door with a small creaking sound. He looked down the main hall and when he knew it was clear, James stepped in carefully looking around the wal into the living room. Nothing was there. "Alright, it seems clear for now, but be careful. Don't go upstairs. My kitchen is just past the living room. Go get the water bottles from the fridge and some food. And...watch your back no matter what." He said taking off into his house making his way to his room. When he got to his room, he checked his corners. Nothing was in his room. Quickly he went into his room and under his bed, pulling out a small fireproof safe. Quickly he put a code in and it snapped open. In the safe was some money and a Pistol. Pulling it out, he quickly takes out the clip, checks it and puts it back in the gun. "Lucky, both guns are 9mm. So that means both guns can share bullets." he explained himself. James got up from his squat and went over to his dresser and pulled out a carton of bullets, about 50 in it. "Got it." he shouted, Making his way toward the door of his bedroom.

Clarissa nodded in response to his statement for her to be ready. "Yes, I will." She said and then James proceeded to enter his own home, albeit more carefully. Strangely, Clarissa found this very comical for it deemed strange to her that he would act this way in his own home. But like what he said earlier, they needed to watch their own backs; this theory was no different in homes and sanctuaries. Coheed City was ravaged by flesh-eating creatures, what can a house of a young teenager hold then?

After a moment, he proceeded to his own room and asked her to collect some supplies by the kitchen, which was past the living room. Clarissa agreed to this and ventured what was of the house. It was silent and still, like Coheed, too. She began to wonder then if it's always been like this in James' home; and speaking of home, did James live alone? Where were his parents? She made a mental note to herself to ask him later on, when they were out of the fire.

Turning back at the setting around her, she was now in a small living room enough to cater about three to four people. Perhaps, James preferred not to invite guests too much? She smiled vaguely at these thoughts and then scanned the entirety of the room. It was by this time when she saw a small video recorder at the coffee table and slowly picked it up. She opened it and then inspected its memory. There, she found a few self-taken pictures of James but nothing more. Where would James keep the rest of his pictures, she wondered. "James, would you mind if we picked your camera, too? It would be of help on some moments, I guess..." She asked and without waiting for an answer, she put the camera at her bag, along with her handheld stun gun.

Then, she proceeded to the kitchen, as per ordered to her. She scanned the empty kitchen, expecting some unexpected visitors and then sighed in relief when she found the place empty and still - like the rest of the living room and Coheed. She made her way to the fridge and then opened it. There, she found some bottled water and then a few perishable goods. Strange, high schoolers normally didn't buy these things, she thought. Turning to one of the cabinets, she found several canned goods. After rummaging for a few cabinets, she found a large plastic bag and then found it good for temporary holding item for their supplies. She took a few bottled waters and canned goods and then left the perishable ones, knowing that they'd be useless without the coldness of the fridge.

It happened very fast. There was a loud crashing sound that sort of "ripped" the silence of the night and the house. Clarissa, out of shock rather than horror, screamed her lungs out when she realized that it was by the kitchen back door that the loud crash occurred. For a moment, she thought she saw a burglar but it was much more than that. You see, burglars are alive but what she that time was a dead old woman. She gasped in horror when she realized this and then fell down, scattering the goods across the floor with loud clanking sounds coming from the cans.

The figure hobbled into the kitchen after breaking into the back door pane and then magically opened the door. Clarissa shook in nervousness and was bound by horror when she watched the figure walk... well, limp into the house. It was an old woman with gray hair and hawk-like glasses that was askew across her bloodied nose. She raised her arms and then gave off a gurgling sound that Clarissa swore was a struggling moan of the dead. Clarissa groaned along with the creature and tried to reach for her gun, which was ridiculously far from her. And then she realized that when she picked the camera, she laid the gun at the same table and forgot to pick it up.

The creature lurched forward. Clarissa shrieked.

James Was about to exit his door when he heard a thud in the kitchen then a screech from Clarissa. "s**t." He said grabbing the leg holster for the gun that was on the dresser by his door, then taking off quickly turning corners until he finally entered the living room. As soon as he turned the corner into the living room, James pointed his gun to the kitchen then BANG. Shooting the zombie first where his jugular was. But that wouldn't kill these creatures. James missed his shot the first time. He did not wait though soon after the bullet hit the zombie's neck, he pulled the trigger again then BANG. Another shot comes from the gun but this time entering the things head, making hit stand for a second, stumble back and then fall through the glass door. He quickly looked over to Clarissa then down at the coffee table in the living room. The gun was sitting there. As he walked over to Clarissa, he grabbed the gun before going to her. As he got to her, he kneeled down as she was on the ground and handed her the gun again. " You need to be a little more careful then that Clarissa." He said slightly breathing hard, a little bit of shock in his eyes. His gun and the holster in one hand as the gun he gave Clarissa in his outreached hand, waiting for her to take it again. " I'm pretty sure We got everything we need so shall we leave?" He said with a small smile, one that was ment to comfort Clarissa but also Hiding he was a bit startled by the situation.

There were two loud bangs and Clarissa helplessly shrieked in shocks as James downed the creature. She gasped in shock as she saw the figure stumble backwards, coagulated blood splattering all over her ruined cardigan. Clarissa's eyes watched in horror as she thought of the creature just being an elderly woman and how fast James could think to shoot it possibly without even thinking that this was an old woman he shot. She pushed off the thoughts after reasoning that James was more of the logical thinker and that this event was inevitable.

She turned in time for James to hand her the forgotten gun by the living room. At once, she turned red and then muttered a small apology for her recklessness. "I'm sorry..." She uttered under her breath, thinking that perhaps James was sick of her whining. Well, everyone does have their limits. She took the gun and then put in her bag for safekeeping; she wished she won't ever use the gun. "I forgot... Anyways, y-yes, I have taken what can be salvaged from the fridge." She said and then turned at once at the plastic bag from earlier.

After picking up the supplies, the scene instantly darkened. She gasped. She thought for a moment that she might have gone blind but she was mistaken. In truth, the street lamps across the road and the remaining lighted homes around the neighborhood had gone dark, ergo implying the fact that the electrical power of this part of Coheed had gone down. At once, she pulled her gun from her bag again and then walked over to James.

"What happened?" She asked, although of course she have had a theory already in her mind. "The neighborhood's all dark!" She added, looking suspiciously around the house, expecting to find one of the creatures creeping behind them. However, the house remained silent.

Maria walked cautiously down the streets, a bag of groceries in her hand. It was simple trip to the super market but her mother had warned her of strange things going on in the city. Maria loosened her school tie a little bit and swallowed, despite her strong will the constant warnings she had received began to unnerve her. She noticed there were few people on the streets which only worried her more, less people to help her if she were to get kidnapped. She willed her feet to move faster, reminding herself she was only a few blocks from her apartment building. A small sweat had begun to break out on the back of her neck as well her forehead. There had been much talk of people disappearing; people stumbling around the streets, smelling of rotting flesh. Not only that but the rumor was that people were starting to crawl from their graves. Maria shuddered and was glad to finally have reached the door of the building she called home.

Reaching quickly for the door she froze suddenly when a quiet moan came from behind her. She let her hand fall to her side and turn around cautiously. She dreaded the sight that stood behind her. Locking eyes with what appeared to be a human she let her breath go. That was, until it lunged at her. She screamed and ducked out of it's way, all the meanwhile keeping her groceries in check. At her next chance she threw open the door and tossed herself into the lobby, slamming the door shut behind her. The monster threw itself against the glass of the door, pawing at it uselessly. The bag hung limply in her hand still but her knees trembled and her breathing was uneven. In all honesty she had no idea what was happening, it was very possible the rumours were true.

James Gabbed hold of Clarissa's hand and pulled her away from the window and toward the door. " Yes, I'm betting the power is going out due to the unmanned machines. Power plants can only go on so long being unmanned. I'm guessing it finally burnt out." he tried to explain as he pulled her. " But that's only a guess. Now lets get back to the car, we need to head to the police station. I'm betting they have bars to lock the doors....and plenty of guns. Right now it may be the safest place. " He said letting go as they got close to his car. James quickly went to the driver's side and got in. Waiting till Clarissa got in, he put it in reverse, backed out of the drive way, then quickly slowed, put it in first and took off. " What you see at the police station may disturb you, but keep strong...don't worry. I won't let anything happen to you." he said keeping his eyes on the road.

When they made it to the police station, the windows were barred the front was open, and papers flew out the door as well. Looking around there were a few stumbling creatures in the far background as well as turned cars, broken mail boxes and street sights bent to hell. Slowly James got out, taking gun in hand and made his way toward the police entrance. " Clarissa, Stay behind me. We have to clear it out, make sure nothing is in there." He told her. Upon looking into the police station, there were no more dead bodies...instead it was just blood ridden walls and floors. Toppled desks as well as chairs everywhere. Slowly making his way in he looked around. " Well...i guess they got back up to.." he said in a annoyed tone. Looking back and above the door way was a metal gate like pull down door...a security door. " Clarissa, pull that down but don't lock it yet. I'm going to clear the building. Stay here, yell my name if something moves. " He said moving though the lobby part first.

Seifer J. Zander

Coheed, Seifer's home town, this military man is finally going to make it back. Coheed wasn't the first of the attacks, for those who watched news, it was violent riots that were ridden the worlds. When infact the dead were coming back to life and eating people, it wasn't just world wide riots. The government was trying to cover it up with lies. Convincing the world everything was going to be in control. So Coheed was safe, it was nearly in the middle of the country and the outbreak had not hit them, until about thirteen ours ago. And thats when these world wide 'Riots' started happening to the population of Coheed. But once it hit, Coheed members could deduct quickly that these things were not rioters....but the walking dead. And it just happened autonomously to them...except, it's been happening for a little over a month now. The virus spread quick, but was able to be contained for a little bit. Hence why the government chose to try a cover story. But then, the virus hit airborn, chao's struck and any hope of containment fell out the window. The truth was out, people saw what was happening. Unfortunately, Coheed was one of the lasts to know when it hit.

Seifer traveled the highway toward his home, Coheed. As he traveled the high, no one was going out, but there were a few people leaving. Usually there would of been more, but seeing only a few people were warned and evacuated, he knew why it was so desolate, only a three car's he seen leave as he made his way home. And all three of them were stain ridden with blood. It hit. His goal there was to see if his girlfriend was still there, or if she was with the group that was covertly evacuated. He would of been there sooner, if he wasn't stationed in Washington as 'crowd control'. After what he just went through over seas, the army pushed him back into action no sooner then a few weeks after he got home. Infact, because of this he was planning on going Awal to get to his girlfriend and to be child. As he was about to leave his post the virus went airborn, escaping containment the government had. He was there when it happened...the walls being broke down, and people turning after they died, even when they were not bit. It all fell from the inside only to be met with the outside force of the hoard.

Passing the welcome to Coheed sign he's seen so many times before in his childhood, he can't smile to be home...not how it is now. He wanted his girlfriend and unborn child to be safe. But as it looked now, no one was left really. He drove his army Humvee through the town, driving past his house. No one was there, but to make sure he parked and searched the place. But as he thought, no one was in the building. Getting back into his Humvee, Seifer continues to look for any sign. Maybe his girlfriend did get evacuated with the group, he was this Majors bride to be someday. As he continued to drive, Seifer spotted a little girl walking into a building, a set of apartments. This little girl was no older then 11 or 12. But she seemed to be normal, caring a bag with stuff in it, as well as well as opening a door like a living person. His eyes widened though as another figure came into view. One of the creatures were following her, he had a little bit of time. Quickly he stepped on his gas, the engine roaring until he got close enough. His breaks screeched stopping the car. Swinging open the door, Seifer didn't care about closing it. He did though pull out the keys. Quickly he pulled out his knife from his back. Quickly he shifted the knife holding it backward in his hand. The girl managed to get herself in the lobby, somewhat safe, although there may of been more creatures inside that building. Seifer tossed up his knife having it flip in the air, caught it by the blade then threw it straight into the zombies head. The creature hit the glass door with a loud rattle sound then fell to the ground. Seifer then showed up in the door way saw the little girl and looked though the glass around the place, there were infact two others in there with her. Reaching down he grabbed hold his knife handle and ripped it out of the zombies head, he then placed it back where took it. Seifer had alitte bit of time left, the creatures were coming up behind her slowly, but she didn't notice them. Swiftly, Seifer opened the door and pulled out his desert eagle both in the same motion and pointed, BANG moved his gun took aim and another BANG. Shooting twice with his gun. " Don't look at them. " he said in a light voice. He had shot them both directly in the forehead, and being slightly rotted...everything splattered around. A sight a little girl shouldn't be seeing. " Something very bad is happening, its not safe in here." He told her, hoping she would understand. But likelihood is she would want to see her parents.

Maria continued to watch the undead paw at the window. It didn't seem as scary when it couldn't touch her. She placed her hand directly on the glass and continued to look at it. Suddenly the monster dropped dead. She cocked her head slightly, wondering what could of happened. She felt the cool glass pull away from her hand, although she had not moved herself. Two loud gunshots rang abruptly throughout the room, causing Maris to scream before she even realized what was happening. Her hands flew to her ears in an attempt to block out the noise, which was virtually useless. A few stray tears fell down her face from the fear and sudden intensity of the situation. After a few moments she dropped her hands cautiously as the room fell silent. Looking up all she could see was a man holding a gun and behind him were no doubt something that had died. She could see the blood stains on the walls. Wiping the tears from her face she calmed down and picked up her groceries. "Were they sick?" she quesitoned and walked around him. Something tugged at her heart slightly when she saw the bodies, "these two people, were my neighbours," she said, obviously upset that they were no longer alive. Maria turned her back to them, realizing that if they were dead it was possible that her family was.... Maria walked away from them towards the stairs, "I've got to find my mom first, her and my brother, whether it's safe or not," she told him and took the steps two at a time.

Arriving to her apartment she knocked on the door, with no answer. She stood patiently for a few moments before putting her hand on the door knob and turning it. To her surprise it opened easily and the door swung into the room. No one was there. "Mom? Elias?" She called out to her family, but no one answered her back. She dropped the grocery bag and ran into the living room only to sink to her knees. They were nowhere to be seen, dead or alive.

Seifer was about to lead the little girl out when she announced she had to find her parents. Hell, they may of still been alive so why not, his girlfriend was not here anymore so he would go with the girl for a little bit. He couldn't just leave her, not until he knew she was safe. But before he knew it, the little girl dashed up the steps. " Uh. Hey.." He said lightly but she was already up the stairs by then. " ..God..." He said when she was out of his sights. Quickly he dashed up the stairs following the little girl until he was at the doorway, she had fell to her knees, looking as if she was going to cry. He came into the building his gun at ready and looked around. Slowly he walked with his gun infront of him past Maria and into the kitchen, then back. Seifer was checking the rooms with precision, He could not afford for it not to be safe. When he ventured every room, Seifer went back into the living room to Maria. " I suggest you get whatever you need here.... If your mom and dad are still...." he paused for a moment, realizing he was talking to a little girl, not another soldier. He had to watch his words." Well, I think it be best for you to come with me till we find your parents. They may have went out, so tell me. Where do they usually go during the day, we can go look for them." he said with small nod, but no smile. His face was serious but caring at the same time. It also seemed a bit hasty as well, like they should hurry.

Maria watched the boy walk by her into the empty room. She had no idea why he felt the need to check all of the rooms, nor what he was even looking for. However she had a feeling it had to do with the things they had seen in the lobby. She stood up slowly as he came back to where she had been sitting. "Parent, not parents..." she corrected him, "I don't have a dad." She said nothing else and walked down the short hallway into her room. It may have been small but she was glad she didn't have to share. Grabbing the backpack that sat on her bed, she unzipped it and turned it over. School supplies and books fell out of it and crashed to the floor. Not that it mattered anymore, she knew she wasn't going back to school. Turning it back straight up she began to throw a few things into it. A few changes of clothes, a hair brush and a necklace her mom had given her. Otherwise, she would have to, reluctantly, leave the rest behind.

Shutting the door behind her, Maria returned down the hallway and stood in from of him again, "my mom never leaves the house, she's sick." Maria walked into the kitchen and picked a few things from the fridge that she could eat on the way, whatever their destination. "My brother works at the constructions sites, but he wasn't today." She looked at him a little harshly. She had been told not to trust strangers, but what else was she supposed to do? Her family had just left with no other word of where they went.

Seifer watched the little girl go into the hall and he heard her rummaging her around. He kept his eye on the door, the only way in for those creatures. Then another thing struck his mind, her parents. Her mom was sick, she never leaves the house. Which meant one thing. She was already dead...that or someone dragged her out. But he doubted that would happen. If she was always sick, then her mom most likely died...and came back reanimated. Her brother wasn't back either, so which ment... he didn't want to believe it. But it was the only thing that could happen. No one would leave they're little sister behind and a mom couldn't do that either. He heard the footsteps of the small girl coming back and turned to her. He couldn't lie to this girl, he could not lead her to believe that her mom was fine. He walked over to her and kneeled down infront of her. " Listen, My name is Seifer James Zander. I'm a Army Major, And I have some bad news for you." he said looking at her in the eyes. " Something bad has happened. It didn't start here in Coheed. But it spread here. Your mom...if she was sick I don't know if we will find her." He said standing up. " Something terrible is happening...everything from this point on is going to be different. " He said. Seifer thought back, remembering all the chaos and crashed cars he saw on the way through the city.

Seifer backed away from her but never stopped watching her. " We will go by where your brother works and see if he happens to still be there. But....I'm not sure what we will find.... What you saw downstairs... It's....happening everywhere. What ever you do, do not let them bite you. Those things..they aren't your towns people. Don't trust them ok." He said calmly. "But right now we have to go ok. If you want to ask anything, lets do it in the humvee. I don't want to have those things find us." he said walking over to the doorway and peaking out in both sides, reading his gun.

Clarissa Rivers
Student and Waitress (Midnight Angel Bar)

Clarissa, when the lights went out, felt James' rather strong grip enclose upon her hand. She gasped in shock for a moment, thinking it was a zombie, and then realized it was him and then was pulled away from the windows and the towards the entrance. "But what will happen to the rest of the electrical machines around the city? It would be a disaster! This could send a lot of disadvantage from the rest of the people counting on machines..." She said as they made to James' car. True, what would happen to electronically locked doors? What would happen to electronically locked windows and security systems? At times like these, they needed to secure the reliability of all things. One mistake could cause the death of the other. Then, after reassuring her safety, James drove to the police station with him mentioning to "keep strong."

Upon arriving at the Coheed Police Department building, they both saw the remnants of what seemed to be a very huge commotion. Clarissa didn't wonder much, even though she was quite saddened by the fact that there were possibly no one to accompany them. From afar, they saw a few of the creatures stumbling around and of course wreak havoc around the streets because they saw Clarissa, a live snack, at a distance. She spared no time to follow James as he ventured into the police building. The building was in total chaos. There were upturned desks and chairs, papers strewn everywhere, and lots of blood smeared across the walls and floors. It looked like a big bloodbath occurred in the building itself.

When James gestured to the metal gate that hung by the doorway, Clarissa nodded and then slowly reached out to the security grate. It took at least three strong tugs before she jammed it out of its lock and then pulled it down to the ground. Upon his request, Clarissa didn't lock the grate although she doubted if the zombies couldn't raise them up. Who knows? Maybe the creatures could even turn a doorknob. "James, don't die in there, okay?" Clarissa called out to James, as he strode towards the lobby of the building.

Maria looked him in the eyes as he spoke. She learned his name was Seifer, he worked for the army. However at this point that information was virtually useless to her. She didn't care for his name or his job. For all she knew he could be here to kidnap her, he could have set up this plan just to get her to trust him. When he continued to speak it only made her more upset. His tone of voice was suggesting she was incompetent or rather she didn't understand what was going on. Clenching her fists she continued to look him in the eyes. "I'm not stupid, you know," she said firmly, "I've seen the damage, I know about the disease. You may not have been here but for the last few weeks but it's spread faster than you've realized. I'm not five years old and you certainly don't need to treat me that way." Maria was furious that he could talk to her in such a way. She didn't care about the information he was telling her either, " I know how people get infected, why do you think I carry a knife?" she said, pulling one that was hidden from underneath her belt. Clenching it in her hand she pushed passed him into the hallway and looked back briefly and added, "you don't need to sugar coat it." Maria made her way quickly down the stairs with her backpack strapped firmly to her shoulders and her knife clutched in her hand.
