Seylin Darunia
NPC___________________________________________________________

User Image
Seylin was perfectly serious on all matters concerning treasure. Especially his treasure. As his dark eyes aimlessly stared past the ceiling into his own thoughts, Seylin pursed his lips in thought before absentmindedly bringing his ale back to his lips once more. ' I could tell the boy and thus be forced to explain myself, or I could simply dangle the carrot in front of his eye.', As a cheshire grin curled the side of his face, Seylin tilted his head and pinned his gaze upon Bennett once more.

"
You would get the princess...and any valuables you see fit to take with you.", What seylin wanted was completely worthless to a pathetic little human anyhoo, so he felt there was no reason to reveal exactly what he desired to steal.

"
Start packing; M'lad. We leave as soon as you are ready. Remember to bring a grappling hook...and the elvish rope. " Seylin gobbled down the remainder of his ale and left the tavern for his cottage without another thought. Assuming Bennett would immediately comply.

[Failpost on purpose, keeping things short to move the plot along faster. X3 (btw, the sugar fish...looks really tasty...and I'm not a fan of sweet things. But its colorful and pretty...)]

They've been traveling for far too long. The horses were getting slower with the lack of sleep, Amherst's eye lids were getting heavier and it was getting harder to hold onto the reigns. He looked over to his friend with a smile, "Time to set up camp." Bingham let out a short chuckle and tugged hard on his reigns, Amherst followed suit. As they dismounted and lead their horses to water, Amherst looked up into the darkening sky (ooc: I can change that...) and then back to his old friend. Bingham and him had always been rather close, ever since they were boys in training. It was nice to know that Amherst had a friend somewhere, not just another nobleman or a female acquaintance that wanted to be close to him.

Amherst set up camp rather quickly, always aware of what was around him to be ready to defend himself. It took him a few seconds to take the belt which held his sword at his hip off. But when he realized how tired he was, he slung it beside the small cot he had set up and rested his head against his arms. Amherst couldn't help but think how great of a deed it would be to come home with the princess, all the people cheering his name (and the princess's, and Bingham's... of course). His dark blue eyes shut quickly before he could realize he had been falling asleep.

Bennett pondered what the treasure they were going to be seeking was. He raised an eyebrow at Seylin’s answer to his last question. Was it a trap? If I get the princess and whatever I want, then what is it that he wants? The princess herself was a big enough prize, but what made him so sure they were going to get to her? Practically every knight in the kingdom was out looking for her. Knights stronger and more eligible than Bennett were bound to find the princess first. Before Bennett could think about where he was going to get some elvish rope and a grappling hook, Seylin was up and heading out the door. Bennett quickly finished the rest of his drink, making sure not to waste any. Who knows when the next time he’ll be able to have another one? He then quickly caught up to Seylin who was already out the door. “Well, I’m all packed.” Bennett had no possessions other than what he had on him now. He usually spends nights in a bar until they kicked him out, then he’d sleep in a nearby alleyway. Whenever he needed something, he’d simply swipe it from somewhere. “I don’t have no hook or rope though.” He hoped that Seylin wouldn’t be too bothered by that. If he had the time, Bennett would have found someplace to steal it from, but it seemed like Seylin was in a hurry to get going.User Image

So many questions burned Bennett’s mind as he and Seylin made their way through the night. Where were they going? How long was it going to take to get there? Would it be dangerous? None of these things bothered Bennett, it made the trip more exciting, but he still wanted to know. The two of them were walking along the river when they came upon a makeshift camp. Bennett saw the camp and a mischievous grin formed his face when a thought came to mind. These travelers had horses, and probably other things that would come in handy on their trip and Bennett wanted them. He turned to Seylin to see if he saw the camp. “Look what we have here. Bet they got lots of stuff on them” he said itching to go over there and raid their camp. Of course he didn’t bother to think who these people were and if they could be dangerous. When it came to common sense, Bennett really didn’t have much. It took all he had to keep from sneaking over there. He didn’t know whether Seylin would permit this kind of behavior just yet. Instead he looked over to him with eagerness like a dog waiting for its owner to throw the ball in a game of fetch.

OOC: Thanks! It's mostly for display, although everything is edible. It was definately the most stressful thing I've done so far.

Not even waiting long enough to hear Bennett's reply, Seylin was out the door and heading towards his dainty cottage beside Mort's pond. Walking inside the gloomy house, Seylin lit a nearby oil lamp and proceeded to pack one change of clothes into a tan sack laying open on his bed. Approaching his bookshelf, Seylin pulled open a small, secret, compartment where a necklace rested that had once housed a small gem or pearl. Its absence made the jewelry appear sad and lonesome...its silver chain now dull from years of gathering dust. Holding the broken heirloom that was absent of its treasure, Seylin's eyebrows furrowed in melancholy contemplation of the meaning the necklace had long since been stolen of. ' It is a strange fate...that I should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing.', using his hand to wipe the chain and empty emblem of it's cloak of dust, Seylin lifted the chain atop his head and nestled it around his neck. Turning to see his reflection in a small mirror on the wall; stolen from one of his escapades, Seylin adjusted the pendant in the reflection contemplatively. It was still a lovely chain and clasp, but it was just another amulet cord without its missing pearl. Shoving it underneath his shirt, Seylin kicked open an aged trunk he kept underneath his bed.

Scraping the box against his wooden floor to better see its contents within the light of the oil lamp, Seylin had to fumble about until he found the long coil of elven rope buried near the bottom of the box. Spending the next twenty minutes searching for a grappling hook, Seylin finally found one that was attached to a long-shot, and grinned as he shoved that into his bag. '
All set to go...', thought Seylin as he packed what small amount of food and coins he was willing to carry, and locked the door of his cottage behind him. There was nothing left of value within that house of his, and if he never came back; Seylin hoped the house would suit whomever decided to inhabit it.

~

Hours later, Striding the back of Marak's stolen steed, Seylin looked upon the camp with rampant curiousity. Bennett was surely eager to raid the traveling camp; and given that it was so small as to contain only two meager combatants Seylin began to seriously contemplate it. '
They're either swordsmen or Blacksmiths.', thought he upon seeing both the array of valuable weapons and the cart beside the sleeping pair beside the dwindling campfire. ' To steal? Or let Bennett get caught for stealing and shanghai them into joining our quest?'Raising his eyebrow mischeviously, Seylin leaned over to his partner in crime and whispered an idea into his ear.

"
If they are searching for the princess, it would certainly be better to travel with four than two...Besides...When we reach the Black Tower...its wise to let the pawns go in first." Containing a malicious chuckle, Seylin glanced his dancing eyes towards young Bennet and resisted the urge to rub his hands together.

Linwe felt uncomfortable in the silence that followed. She shouldn't have brought up such a topic that would upset her. Eating the good that was in front of her, Linwe quickly found herself full. The meal was quite delicious, as always, but the talk of the danger in the outside world made her a bit uneasy. She only hoped her mother was fairing better.

When her mother started talking, Linwe gave her full attention. She was a bit curious as to where her mother was going with this. Marak would always just come over just to visit. At least, that's what Linwe used to think. Now she questioned everything. Finally, her mother got to the point. Marak wanted marry her? Was this the reason that he always came over? This was not something that she liked in the least.

Trying to keep a calm composer, Linwe tried to organize her thoughts for her response. "If that were to happen then I would live underground the rest of my life?" Linwe could already see her dreams of seeing the world fade from her. Sure, getting to explore the Goblin Kingdom below would be an adventure in itself but she would never see the land she had dreamt of seeing. The thought was simply horrible to her.

"Mother, that's really not necessary. I can defend myself. We just talked of  ways I could do that. There is no need for Marak's plan of protection. We have been fine for seventeen years already." She found her voice almost pleading with her mother to see things her way.

Bennett sighed, all his excitement escaping from him like a lead balloon, as Seylin told him his plan. He’d already envisioned a plan of attack on how he would go about taking what he wanted. Of course Seylin had a good point. Traveling with them might be a better bet. He’d still get to gain some things and it would be less of a risk. Plus these strangers could be used as potential bait instead of him. Still, the fun and satisfaction of raiding the camp left him disappointed. Just think, you’ll still have the chance to swipe something when they aren’t looking. This thought made him a bit more eager to go along with Seylin’s plan. But what if they were searching for the same treasures he was looking forward to getting his hands on? What if all of them survived to claim the prize? After the promise of being told he could have whatever he wanted, the thought of sharing upset him. He wanted, no he needed, everything he could get. If he was going to risk his skin on this journey, he was going to take all that he could carry no matter what.

User Image As much as Bennett wanted to go against what Seylin said, he complied. Seylin was the leader. He was older, wiser, and knew what he was doing so Bennett had to follow him. If he went against Seylin’s wishes who knows what he’d do to him. So Bennett pushed the desire to raid the camp to the back of his mind. Instead he focused on trying to make friends with whoever these travelers were. “Yeah, you’re probably right. Let’s go see who these chums are” With that, Bennett started to make his way over to the small camp keeping an eye out for anything he’d like to swipe sometime in the future.

As much as Sylvanis wished to reassure the child that marrying a goblin was not a neccessity, to be forthright and state: 'I traded you darling...before you were born...' Was not the thing a mother said to her child. However...perhaps she could 'delay' the inevitable long enough to sway Marak's mind. ' All I truly need is Goblin blood to resurrect the dragon...but if my plan is to work I'll need his blood!' The redheaded sorceress shook her head in reluctant agony as she magically summoned the scraps and dirty dishies back to her castle in Donguire. Slaves Sylvanis had procured through years of swindling and prank-pulling ensured the lavish pair never had to worry about cleaning again. However, for once Sylvanis would not have minded a chore to take her mind off of things. ' How to dissuade him? How to bargain without him having the time to take my child?' Sylvanis sat at the empty table in dismay before she realized Linwe was still seated beside her.

"
You had best hurry along to bed my dear; you'll need your beauty sleep if you wish to look best for your compa--" Company; Sylvanis had a glorious idea. A 'two birds with one stone' stroke of genius. ' My little Linwe must be in love with that goblin scum to procreate. Which would require her being awake to become better acquainted. If she...say...accidentally fell under one of -my- enchantments, then only true loves kiss would wake her.' She grinned almost wickedly; not hiding her deviousness from her child as she usually did. ' And true loves kiss...is the romance that shall kill her.' Linwe would sleep forever, unless Sylvanis decided to end the spell. Her right brow raised in intrigue as Sylvanis stood from the dining room chair and followed Linwe to hug her daughter goodnight. Traveling in silence, the gentle kiss she placed upon Linwe in parting would soon, magically, force the child's eyelids to flutter and grow heavy. Whenever her child fell asleep once more, she would -stay- asleep for as long as Sylvanis wished.

"
Farewell until tomorrow child.", Little did Sylvanis know...the enchantment failed to take root. Eventually, the spell would take hold of the beautiful princess; but, not tonight. Nor tomorrow, or the next day; Perhaps not even for a month or a year. For the time being; Linwe was safe from enchantment. Unbeknownst to Sylvanis, the placing of an additional curse had unintentionaly forced the two to coincide. Linwe would fell under the perpetual sleep...but only When she fell in love. As Linwe, as of yet, had no true love blossoming beneath her breast, the enchantment could not opus...And upon returning to her castle in Donguire; Sylvanis carted herself off to bed with all the prognostics of a joyious morrow.

Bingham Langcaster
NPC~__________________________________________________________

User Image
Asleep and rolled up within a blanket, Bingham had been resting comfortably atop a fluffy carpet of grass when suddenly a hand spurred the young man awake. Beliving the hand to be Amhurst, Bingham opened his eyes long enough to register that the sun was just barely licking over the sky. ' What is he doing up so early? He can wait a few more hours.', and furrowing his eyebrows together, a grumble left Binghams lips as he slapped the hand on his shoulder and pressed his face into the coat he had been using as a pillow.

"
It's not even the crack of dawn Amhurst...", Bingham lied in the hopes of having a few more minutes of precious sleep. However, the hand only shook him violently in responce and Bingham could no longer pretend to be asleep.

"
Wake up; Laddie! " That was definetely not Amhurst. Bingham snapped himself awake at hearing a stranger's voice and pulled the dagger out of his boot in self-defence to see Seylin looking down upon him with a quizzical: 'Are you serious?' expression on his face as he crossed his arms. Bingham, suddenly feeling foolish, put the dagger away. No, he had not been serious.

"
Who are you?!", Bingham asked, his eyebrows now furrowing in irritation. Seylin smiled a crooked grin and set his hands on his hips.

"
My name is Seylin Darunia. Me and my cohort Bennison happened to come across a thief raiding your cart; Laddie." Seylin pointed towards the direction of a few nearby trees a short distance away.

"
Bennison ran after the man in the hopes of retrieving the items stolen from your cart...but betwixt you and I, he is not the fastest runner." To be fair, Bennett was most likely burrying that lovely, gem-encrusted, dagger somewhere in the shadows of that tree for later withdrawel. Or at least, the bag of gold cut from Bingham's pants would not be returning. Seylin had told the boy to decide which of the two to bring back, and had rather hoped the boy would chose to bring back the dagger. As that being more likely to be an heirloom, would certainly gain this pair's trust more readily than a sack of coins. Bingham raised an eyebrow as Seylin uncovered this information before a sense of alarm overtook the humble blacksmith and he sprang from the blanket-wrap he had previously been snuggling in to examine his cart. It did, indeed, appear to have been lightly touched, and there was certainly an expensive dagger missing from the collection. ' Oh no! Da's go'in'a 'ill me for sure!' Bingham turned his head to the trees, hopeful that Seylin's 'cohort' Bennison would come through the trees with it. Please come back!

"
Thank you for stopping the thief...", Bingham stated to be civil in a concerned tone as he continued to watch the trees.

Amherst woke up just in time to see two strangers waking up Bingham and speaking of thefts. He sat up and reached for his sword. There was something about this Seylin guy that didn't right with Amherst, if there had been any tussle at all, Amherst would have heard at least some kind of scuffle. He was a knight, after all, he was trained to have open ears. He got up to his feet and started to sheath his sword. "Good day, Sir." He started towards the gentleman who had awoken Bingham so rudely. "May I ask what you were doing when you just happened to stumble across this theif?" There was something fishy about the man, Amherst was going to figure it out one stealthy move at a time.

Bennett was absolutely filled with glee when Seylin actually let him swipe a few things before the two men who were asleep awoke. Carefully looking around in the cart, he saw a very expensive looking dagger. Covered with sparkling jewels and gems, the sight of it was magnificent. Among the other items in the cart, this was definitely the most prized. Tucking it safely into his pocket, Bennett went in for a more risky steal. Careful not to awake the sleeping blond, he snatched a small bag of coins from the man’s pocket. Grinning from ear to ear he showed Seylin his winnings. Unfortunately Seylin said he could only keep one of the two. The one he wished to keep was to be buried in the nearby forest, and the other he was to bring back here.

Once hidden out of sight in the forest, Bennett was left with a difficult decision. Which one to keep? The obvious answer was the dagger, for it was far more valuable than the sack of coins. But what would the two men think when he returned with merely a sack of coins? Surely they would prefer the dagger. They might question his priorities if he came back from his retrieving mission with something of such a low value compared to the dagger. Sighing, he cradled the precious dagger in his hands. Oh how he longed to keep it for his own. Though it was a difficult decision, Bennett buried the sack of coins in a small hole under a tree. He marked the tree with an “X” using the dagger User Image so he could remember which tree it was buried under when he came back to retrieve his small treasure. Then he rolled around in the dirt, messed up his hair and clothes, and rubbed some dirt on his face. This was to help go along with his fighting with the thieves act.

Running back to the campsite, Bennett saw Seylin talking to the young blond. “I got it! It was a tough fight, but I managed to retrieve your dagger” he exclaimed in between trying to catch his breath. He gave a lopsided grin to Seylin. “That sure is a mighty fine dagger you got there.” He unwillingly held out the dagger to the young man. His eyes longingly stared at it as it finally left his own hands. Once his eyes were away from the dagger he finally noticed the other man holding a sword. “Whoa, what’s going on here?” he asked nervously automatically putting his hands up. “I, I’m sorry ‘bout your coins, but them thieves were tough.” He hoped his “evidence” was enough to prove his statement. This guy was one he did not want to mess with.

Seylin looked up from Bingham's eyes as Amhurst's voice flooded into his ear. ' was there someone else nearby?', sighing at his failure to notice that there were two men camping beside the river this morning, Seylin crossed his arms and let out a quiet laugh to hide his confusion. This morning he was in a jovial mood, and he did not wish to allow his mood to be tainted by the glint of mistrust shining on the strangers face. ' Knights...suspicious of everything. But, I suppose he should be.' Reaching out to shake Amhurst's hand, he laughed once more and continued:

"
Me? What I was doing? Ha, my cohort Bennison and I are on our way to Tol Cave! There is an old pathway beside the waterfall that leads to the Black Tower. Everyone seems to be going to Donguire for the princess, and I believe she is trapped elsewhere. Bennison and I are going to look." To which Seylin nodded a hidden glance to Bennett and looked back at Amhurst as Bingham nearly hopped over to the young thief to retrieve the dagger.

Turning back to Amhurst, Seylin grinned like a happy puppy and tilted his head to one side. "
As it is, We saw a band of rogues living close to donguire...Possibly Goblins...which might explain why so many knights have not returned...Our small group of two could not be seen as formidable." Bingham thanked Bennett in the background and trapped the brunette male in a big bear hug in gratitude. Not much caring about his bag of gold at the moment.

"
Perhaps it would be best if we banded together...Preferably before your friend suffocates dear Bennison to death." Seylin let out a final laugh and shook his head at Bingham's responce, waiting to laugh at any gasps the boy made at being so tightly squeezed. He did laugh, right before Bingham ended the hug and turned to Amhurst.

"
Amhurst! This Black Tower idea makes sense! No one comes back from donguire, and I never heard of a pathway through Tol Cave, but no one goes through that river. Which might be why Linwe has never been found..." Bingham passed Amhurst a pleading look, trapping the dagger in a sheath attached to his leather belt.

Amherst shook the man's hand reluctantly, but feigned a smile. This man, Seylin, had an interesting tale. It was intriguing. Seeing Bingham get so excited over the dagger, it was almost child-like and it took Amherst out of the real world for a brief second. But none the less, Amherst let go of the man's hand and nodded.

"That does make sense, Bingham." He started packing their camp. "It would be safe to have an extra two people,"

He looked up Seylin through his dark hair. "But my guard won't drop for one second, sir." He moved towards the horses to finish packing. "I apologies for sounding rude, but my nature is to mistrust until proven trustworthy."

He felt redundant, but he didn't care. If redundancy was the way to prove his point, then so be it. If Seylin thought him an idiot, then he wasn't worth trusting.

"We shall set forth as soon as we can," He looked towards Bingham with a side smile. "Bingham here is usually starving by high noon... you need some meat?" He reached into his compartment for a slab of salted meat. He'd cut it into four pieces if everyone wanted a piece.

Linwe was anxious as she waited for some kind of reaction from her mother. It was almost maddening as she waited. It seemed as if the silence just went on forever. Was her mother seriously just going to give her up like that? What good did her safety do if she wouldn’t be able to see her mother again? She was beginning to dread tomorrow. None of this was against Marak. She liked him well enough. It was simply the fact that she didn’t want to feel trapped. Thoughts of running away passed through her mind but she wasn’t too sure if she would be able to make it out of the tower safely.

Linwe nodded as her mother spoke about going to bed. She became a bit confused when her mother cut off. She seemed to be deep in thought. Of what, Linwe had no idea. She thought about asking her mother what it was that she was thinking of but decided against it. Instead she just offered her mother a small smile. She got up from her chair and returned the hug from her mother. She started to feel a bit sleepy and knew she would go to bed soon after her mother left her.

”Goodnight, Mother.” Once she was alone, Linwe walked over to a nearby window in her room. Looking out into the night sky she knew there was no way she could leave the tower, at least not tonight. She went over to her bed and slowly found herself drifting asleep.

Bennett silently listened to the conversation between Seylin and Amherst. He turned his head at the sound of his new name. Noticing Seylin’s glance, he understood. Just then the young man named Bingham scooped him up in a hug of gratitude taking the breath out of him. He was happy that the man was so grateful for his “rescue mission”, but he needed to breathe. Bingham’s tight grip left his gasping for air. When he finally released him Bennett gulped the air back into his lungs. He decided that he liked this Bingham. He was relaxed and fun, much like Bennett himself. It would be nice to travel with someone who wasn’t always so uptight.

Bennett tried to focus on what Seylin said before he got attacked by Bingham. They were going to Tol Cave? Seylin kept where they were headed to himself for most of the journey here. All Bennett knew was that they were going to save the princess. How Seylin knew where to go, Bennett had no idea, but he seemed pretty User Image sure on where they were going. He heard Amherst agree to join up with him and Seylin on their journey to Tol Cave, but he was very cautious about it. Bennett took his warning, hoping that by retrieving the “stolen” dagger that he was so far on his good side. He watched as the knight started packing up the camp. He wasn’t sure if he should offer help, or just watch since he might not trust him touching their stuff yet. Bennett had the tendency to have sticky fingers when it came to things he liked. He eyed the meat that Amherst pulled out with longing. There was hardly a time when he wasn’t hungry and being offered free food was something that rarely happened to him. He took the meat and ate it, savoring every bite. “Thank you.” With that he waited for the two of them to finish packing and to be on the move again.

Hearing Amhurst's somewhat threatening statement brought a sly grin to Seylin's face. Oh, Seylin loved a challenge, and this man was certainly a worthy nemesis. However, as they would have to get along for quite some time, all thought of 'games' flew from his mind as he nodded a respectful nod and shook his head towards the suggestion of the tempting meats. ' Best not savor anything until I can trust the meat to be free of sleeping enchantments...One can never be too careful with men sleeping outside in the open air.'

"
If your friend simply cannot manage without three meals a day, then it would be best to save your meat until a later time. Climbing through the waterways of toll cave will not be easy, and we will need as many rations of food saved up for when we get there.", The journey to the Cliffs of Insanity would take no less than half a day if they began riding those horses now instead of dillydallying. However, the climb up through the caves would take a great deal of hours fumbling about in the darkness; and for that they would need Seylin's help. He knew the watery tunnels of Tol Cave, perhaps, better than Sylvanis did herself. And stepping towards Marak's stolen steed that was grooming the grassy meadow nearby, Seylin leapt atop of it and began a slow trot. Hoping the others would catch the subtle: 'Lets go now' he hinted by his impatience.
