Artto Chieftain Twilight so I know for a fact that they are not reliable enough to be worthe the irritation of wearing during Sex. This is why I hate these condom conspiracy theories. You're implying that because they're not 100% reliable people shouldn't even bother. And this type of mindset is what spreads all these diseases and causes unwanted pregnancies. P.S.: The main cause of condoms failing is improper use. And it's actually counted in the statistics describing reliability. how the ******** is it "improper use"!? o_O; what, are my friends wearing them on their fingers? you don't wanna believe me, that's your business. I'm not telling people that they "shouldn't bother", I'm just saying that I've seen PLENTY of cases where it didn't work, not just Some, I've seen PLENTY! and that is why I PERSONALLY don't see the point in wearing them. they are irritating to wear, make it less enjoyable, and don't do a good enough job. I don't care if other folks wear them, what they do behind closed doors ain't my business. I'm not spinning crazy conspiracy theories here, I'm recounting my PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, and that of my Friends!

Artto Aakosir Artto Aoksir The ones that require skin on skin contact are not prevented I don't know of any STD that transmits by skin on skin contact. Herpes. It's a virus so if you touch a sore it will transer. I found it on this site in the second paragraph. The very first sentence.
Here is another site that supports my theory.
Gonerrhea can be spread by touch. Found that here. I have heard that this is why women who have it, most of the time, have C section deliveries.I think these are a bit misleading. It's not skin on skin. It's lesion to mucus membrane (like the mouth, v****a or p***s) or lesion to wound. This is because the very function of the skin is to protect the body against pathogens. It is "by touch", of course, but it's not skin on skin. It's not like if you touch a sore you'll get it. You'll get it if you touch a sore with your mouth for example - which isn't exactly skin. And that's where condoms come in. They create a barrier between an infected part and your mucus membrane. Of course, that doesn't work in the case of herpes, where you can get it from kissing. You don't have skin in your mouth? Hm... That's a new one. I'm pretty sure you have skin everywhere, it is just how thin and permeable it is.

@Aakosir - The inside of the mouth is technically a mucous membrane, rather than 'skin' as it's more permeable to things than a thoroughly keratinised epithelium like the skin, which has many, many layers for things to pass through before they reach anywhere interesting. That's why we (vet-nurse types) use the inside of the mouth as a test for how well oxygenated the patient is under anaesthesia. Unless they're a chow chow...then we swear wink Of course this is probably another way those medical types are using pedantics to look smarter than everyone else wink

It's not skin, it's a mucus membrane. There is a huge difference, because pathogens can easily penetrate it, while skin is very resilient.

Improper use may be using expired condoms, using two condoms at once, unrolling it the wrong way, putting the condom on too late, keeping it in your wallet, where it's susceptible to wear and tear, storing the condom in a hot place, like a car, re-using a condom, pulling out too late, so the condom can slip off, using condoms that are too large or too small etc.

But it is still technically a form of skin? I never got to that in human anatomy. I didn't have the best experience in school that year... I understand about being permeable and all, but I thought membranes like that were something on cells.

I understand about being permeable and all, but I thought membranes like that were something on cells. The cells in mucus membranes are directly exposed (well, aside from the mucus razz ), while the skin is covered by a fairly thick layer of dead, keratinised cells. It's just that saying it's transmittable by skin-on-skin contact makes it sound you're gonna get herpes if you just touch someone with herpes razz

That would be rather interesting. There's the type A and type B. And they can be either up top or down bottom. It's the more sensitive skins, as I would have called them.

There are a bunch of ways to misuse them. I am very picky about unrolling them correctly (when I actually use them xd ). And you have those teenage kids who think they know it all so they won't bother to pay attention in the classes (which are kind of BS) and they won't read the instructions that are on/in the box.

Not sure if there is any truth to that.

Personally I find the pill is very useful for me. At 16 I don't want to get pregnant, I am not capable both mentally and financially to handle a baby. I currently have a boyfriend who I am very close to and although we don't have sex yet we will be soon. As Chieftain pointed out condoms can not work sometimes so I feel better and safer knowing I have a back-up. As side effects I have found my period comes regular (before it would be all over the calendar, but now I can plan for it XD) and my acne is not as bad as it used to be.

My friend was put on the pill rather young to help regulate her period. There were also other hormonal issues they wanted to try it out on, but I forget exactly what. It didn't really help me in that area so... And I still don't like giving my body some extra stuff to process, since it didn't do anyhing much for me.
