Beginning at the Beginning with You
Inebar had romanced a girl as Veles had asked. Hopefully, should would carry on his seed, but only time would tell. As he was swimming back to the ship, the sunlight glistened and sparkled beneath the surface. The water was cool and refreshing after having left Natalia. He had almost hated to leave, but not quite. As the water glided over his stream-lined body, he made his way to the surface in smooth, quick strokes.
Reboarding the ship, he laid on a deck chair and relaxed. The sun dried his skin a bit, but as along he kept well hydrated and under his umbrella he would be fine. The boat traveled through the waters toward some tourist destination. It didn’t really matter to Inebar, he had done his job and there was an unlimited cap on the booze. Ordering, drink after drink he sat in his chair occasionally flipping water up over himself.
He was slightly buzzed when he saw the child. She was small and green and black striped with a bit of pink. She was peering from beneath sunglasses and a large hat in a pool at the other end of the deck. Her skin glistened wetly. Stretching out for a moment or two longer, he set down his drink and made his way to the small child. Her fin sparkled in the dazzling brilliance of the sun. Her large eyes looked at his keenly and with interest. “Who are you?” Her voice was low and musical, most soothing. “I’m Inebar.” His voice was simple and deep. He asked no questions.
“I’m Nameera. My family lives not far from here, but the earth ponies….the kirins were so pretty I wanted to come and visit.”
Inebar glanced back. “It’s much too far to return you to them now. Whatever shall we do with you?” He raised his eyebrows keenly. “I suppose I could take you home with me. Protect you, and return you next year. You’ll have to have a cover story of course.”
She folded her fins. “That’s most kind of you. Not necessary but most kind.”
Inebar sat down beside her. “Definitely not required but I feel…indebted some way. Somehow like this is meant to be…that I’m suppose to somehow , for lack of a better word, save you.”
Nameera nodded her head sagely. “You’re confused. Let me soothe you.” She reached out and touched his drying face.
Inebar felt his mind soothing and ideas floating more freely and liquidly in his mind. His mind was clearing and he was finding a peace that had long evaded him. He opened his large orange eyes and looked into her large, glowing ones. “You’re the daughter of sea sorcerers. You’re training to be one of them and you will be slightly puppeted or at least appear to be. Your powers will be to influence thoughts. Easy enough to fake.” He sighed as he looked out at the ocean. “I’ll bring you back next year. They should have returned for you by then. If not, you’ll stay with me.” What ever had he gotten himself into?
