Drang watched her start crying again and backed up, tail lashing. "Would you stop crying? I don't see any reason to cry, no one is dead or dying." He pointed out.

"And you're right," Drang continued, "I don't understand and I never will." The black modi snarled at her and lashed the raindrops with his tail angrily. "See, my parents are dead. My mother, my father, and four of my siblings. They all died shortly after we hatched. I didn't have someone to care about me and butt into my life as a kit. I had to take responsibility for every little mistake I made because it could have killed me and my twin sister. So you're wrong again, Little Warrior. I would give anything to have what you have. A caring family. Interfering or not."

Drang couldn't figure out why in the Deities' name he was telling her this, but he couldn't seem to stop himself. "So what if your family butts in? You think Sturm isn't going to give me hell for this little scratch? You think I wouldn't have treated her the same as I treated you if she hadn't moved fast enough out from under that branch?" He demanded. "Actually, I would have kicked her a** for not moving fast enough and thrown her into a cave, so don't you say I'm treating you like a kit, though you are definitely misbehaving like one. Stubborn."

He watched the tears a little longer and sighed. "Look, would you stop crying?" He asked nearly desperately. He didn't know if she was going to kill him or not, but he gently pressed his nose against her forehead.

Nitya's eyes widened and she backed up a set, startled by the touch. "I'm not crying," she said automatically. She couldn't remember starting to cry, and for all she knew the wet fur on her face was from the rain that slowly dripped down onto them.

She went over Drang's story in her mind, and felt a short and somewhat bitter laugh escape her throat. She wasn't laughing at Drang's history or how it compared with her own. Rather his words seemed to finally make sense of why she was so mad at her family.

"My grandfather was a horrible person," she said. "One of my uncles, he killed him when my father was nothing more than a kit. Killed my grandmother, and killed his own mother." She didn't feel like launching into the story about how her grandfather had a mate but had knocked up another vixen. His "mistress" was Nitya's grandmother.

"He would have killed Papa too, if he'd known just who Papa was to him. It's just luck he was a sick kit, and my uncle got too attached to kill him after he found out he was family. Even now my aunts and uncles, they all hate and dislike each other. It wouldn't take much to start a blood bath among us all over again."

Nitya's eyes were still trained toward the ground. She honestly didn't want to see Drang's reaction to her story. Indifference, sympathy, or horror, she didn't want any of those. She wasn't even sure why she was telling the story of her family anyway, except that she felt the need to make her story understood.

"My cousin was supposed to be watching me that day. If I had died-," Nitya shuddered. "As it was it took everything I keep Papa from flying into a rage, or telling my uncle. It was just a stupid accident, and it would have had my entire family at each other's throats all over again." Nitya shuddered again with the memory of it. Even now Papa was still upset with Mercury for that day. How was it fair that infants had to shoulder the burden of a bloody family history in order to keep it from repeating? Maybe Drang thought she'd had a perfectly normal and carefree family life, but it had been anything but.

"You are too crying, and you need to stop." Drang replied stiffly. This crying things was making his nerves scream; all he could connect the tears to were mountain lions and death.

He heard out her family story and shook his head. How in the world did this strong willed warrior allow herself to be so totally controlled by others? Sure, Sturm wielded some small amount of power over him, she was his sister, but not to the point where he felt trapped by her. Which, due to what she was saying, is what she seemed to feel like.

"All this happened when you were a kit?" He asked. "Well, are you still a kit? You certainly don't look like one. If you don't like your family..." He trailed off, that didn't sound right to him. She was talking mostly about their behavior towards her and each other. "I mean, if you don't like the way your family is behaving why do you stay with them?"

Drang thought again and wondered if she was really with them. She said this was her tribe lands. Maybe she had left? Still, this female was carrying way to many issues with her. "I can get you away from them if you want me to." He teased her, trying to get her mad at him again. He really, wanted her to stop crying.

Nitya leveled another glare at Drang. The only upside to anger tears were that they left as abruptly as they came, in short and sudden burst depending on her anger. For now the flow had stopped, and with the rain dampening her fur only the vague smell of salt on her cheeks could prove she'd be crying at all.

"They're my family, I can't just walk away from them. Even if I wanted to. It's kinda one of the disadvantages of having a butt-load of siblings, two over-protective fathers, and an extremely over-protective and somewhat homicidal uncle!" Nitya was fairly certain if no one else could track her down, her Uncle Sin would be able to find her. He was like a demon in fox fur sometimes, the way he seemed to get things done when he put his mind to it.

"I can't just walk away from my tribe either. Maybe you wouldn't understand, but there're these little things called loyalty and duty that I take quite seriously. I've heard they're good qualities for a warrior to cultivate," she added, the last sentence quite laden with sarcasm. Not at her words, but at the male. A lot of what he said seemed contradictory to her.

Contrary to the fact that the little gray vixen was insulting him, Drang gave her a large smirk. "That's much better. I prefer the fire to your woe is me attitude. And while I think I can take your uncle and anyone else your family sends after me...I wasn't serious." He pointed out, meaning him kidnapping her.

"But distancing yourself from them for periods of time is not walking away or being disloyal. Merely giving yourself a break and teaching them that you are able to handle some independence." Drang pointed out. "And independence is another good quality for a warrior to cultivate." Drang snorted. "I do not advise disappearing on your homicidal uncle."

"Independence is for knights or heros," Nitya muttered. "I'm more of a soldier sent to take care of the healers." She was independant in the way that she did most of her hunts or visits around Yasashii territory by herself. Plenty of alone time and more than enough moments to hone her army-of-one skills.

"Join a tribe, then come find me and offer me life tips," she shot back. Not that Nitya expected more than a sarcastic response in return. But she wasn't exactly going to follow the advice of some male who had no clue where she was coming from, especially not on important issues. So far he hadn't said much that made sense.

"And soldiers aren't allowed a leave of absense?" Drang asked with a snort. Stubborn little female. "I think you take on far too much unneeded responsibility. Whether because that's normal for you, or because you're trying to prove something, I don't know. But you should share some of that burden, since you have such a large family and tribe."

At the mention of him joining a tribe, Drang stiffened. "Never. A tribe is a family, and I'm the protector of my family. I can't protect that many people at the same time, and I refuse to leave myself that vulnerable again." He knew from experiance how debilitating it was to lose a family member to violence, and could suddenly see why her family had gotten so over protective of her after her injury.

Nitya sighed. "You just said it, tribes are like family. Not some army. I can't just walk away from them, not without a reason. It's not like I don't have plenty of time to myself if I please. Anyway, the only one in the tribe who actually is family is our Elder. My big sister," Nitya added, as an afterthought.

"You said you have a sister, surely you can understand. Forget tribes and ranks and stuff like that. Just a pair of sisters." She tilted her head. "What would your sister do if you just vanished for an unknown period of time? If she didn't know where you were, where you were going, or when you'd be coming back?"

"She's going to try and kick my a** when I get back." He said with a fond smile. "And she'll probably give me a couple of good wounds too. But, as I'm here and not with her...you can see that that doesn't discourage me much." He replied. "It's the same with her. Sometimes we go off on our own and we don't always say where we're going. We both understand that privacy is needed...but that doesn't mean we aren't going to give each other grief once we come back again."

"I hate when she wanders off, because I can't protect her. However, I also know that she's an adult, and I have to have some faith that she can keep herself alive for a day or two. If I didn't, I'd have a heart attack every time she's out of my sight."
PostPosted: Sun Mar 06, 2011 3:31 pm

"Well it's worse for me." Nitya rolled her eyes. "I've got three brothers and two sisters, and I'm the baby. And Kithara, even if she's not the oldest, looked after us a lot when we were kits. Add to that the healer thing and my own injury, and she freaks out a lot easier." She was just glad her entire family was starting to mellow out by now, the drama got tiring after while.

"She's a healer, of course, so she's not gonna pick a fight. But she nags and nags like a mother." Nitya resisted the temptation to roll her eyes again. "It's not always a bad thing but it can be annoying." She shrugged, the shook what felt like a pound of rainwater out of her fur; the storm overhead was starting to move on, courtesy of all the strong winds.

"I'm the only hunter they've got right now anyway. A bunch of airheads and peacemakers and injured foxes, they'd never taste meat nearly as often if I weren't around."

Drang simply stared at the female for a long while. Half the time he talked to her, he felt that banging his head against a tree would be more productive. This female seemed to be confused or...something. First she complains about her family, then defends them. Sometimes in the same breath. The lightning cover fox shook his head, thinking the female was full of contradictions: hunter and healer, protector and protected, angry(or at least frustrated) and loving towards her family. He didn't know how the tiny body kept up with all the mixed emotions.

"You're going to explode one of these days." Drang murmured, following his thought pattern, though it probably didn't make much sense if she had heard that. The male sat down and lifted a paw, licking the moisture off. "Drang. My name is Drang. In case you still wanted to know."

Subtle as the topic change was, Drang didn't care. This family stuff was a tricky, tricky minefield, and he didn't want to set off more tears. She'd either answer in kind, get mad, or maybe even off balance. Either way, he wanted to see if they had anything else to talk about that their messed up family lives.
PostPosted: Thu Mar 17, 2011 2:48 pm

The statement startled a laugh out of Nitya. She wasn't sure why she found it so funny, maybe it was just the matter-of-fact way the male said the words. She sat, chuckling, for a good ten seconds, then looked up with purple eyes crinkled in merriment.

"Maybe I just like courting spontanious combustion. An easy life would be so sheep-like and boring." Some prefered such lives and did well with them, though Nitya would always be one that liked a bit of adventure or drama every now and then. What, with one sister being gentle and wise and the other excitable and gullible (not to mention her odd brothers), she liked to think she could handle loads of variety in life.

If she was surprised by the sudden change in subject and introduction, she didn't show it. "Always nice to have a name to go with the face," she responded. "My name's Nitya." She sat there for a moment, letting the silence hang between them, wondering if she could strike up a new tangent of conversation or if this was as far as their odd meeting would take them. Considering Drang had been following her this far, she wasn't sure if the lure for him was that she was interesting or he just liked pestering her.

Drang shrugged. "Perhaps, though names tell you very little of the actual person you're talking to. Of course, after saying that, my name means 'stress'. Which, in case you haven't noticed, I try to live up to. Does your name have a meaning, Little Warrior?" Drang switched to the other paw, finding he was a bit thirsty.

Nitya? Drang wasn't sure if he liked it since the insult Nit-wit came to mind, and this female was far from that. Her emotions were crazy but she was intellegent. Perhaps if it had a meaning he could get over that. And if not, his own nick-name for her would work just as well. It fit better as far as he was concerned anyway.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 18, 2011 12:13 pm

((Just to clarify, Nitya's name is pronounced like neat-yuh. Wasn't sure how you were saying it, if Drang was thinking of nit wits XD ))

Nitya rolled her eyes. "Well yea, names don't tell you anything about what a person is like, except for maybe whatever ideals their parents had in mind when they gave 'em the name. Or whatever ideals one tries to emulate, if they gave themselves the name. I just think it's nice to know the name simply for the fact that I can use that instead of "Hey, you!" or something less flattering."

Her tone of voice was more conversational now, someone used to butt loads of siblings and all the annoyances that came with them. Somehow it seemed highly fitting, the meaning of Drang's name; Nitya was tempted to point out that it actually did help her find out more about him, but let it drop since his actual name brought to mind some wind-up knucklehead from a foreign country.

"My name means "always" or "eternally". Not really much to live up to," she added, shrugging.

*Zanshin broke it down into what it looked like. I got the yuh part right. I was just pronouncing the first bit wrong. We'll just pretend he never thought that >.>*

"You could always make up a name that is flattering." Drang suggested. "And 'Hey you!' is entertaining. Shout it at a large gathering, and everyone turns around. You can interrupt the entirety of what was happening." The lightning fox said in the smugly proud tone of one who had done that and found it to be hilarious. The fact that he'd gotten a couple of small scars from it didn't bother him at all.

Drang raised an eyebrow at her name. "Indeed. Eternally what exactly? Beautiful? Smart? Speedy? Silly? Not a very easy name to live up to unless you've decided to make yourself immortal. I think the dieties would have a problem with that, however." He pointed out, trying his hand at light teasing, rather than his usual insulting manner.
