"Well I'm no herbalist," perhaps a skill he should try to acquire, it could be helpful afterall "or anything of the sort actually but I do recall my mother once scolding me for trying to eat a few black colored berries near our home. She called them black nightshade and said that they were poisonous if eaten in large quantities." or at least it was something along those lines, what he really remembered vividly was never eating them again despite their appealing appearance. "I don't know how common those are but it could help right?" He had no idea how familiar she was with plant life but a few words here and there from his mother was about all he knew. "Have you studied plants?" it was a good of time as any to learn something more personal about his companion. Even though they've already covered quite some distance together he realized he didn't know that much about her. He wouldn't invade her deep saddened past as she kindly did the same fo him but this likely wasn't near that time period and it couldn't hurt to ask.

"To the north they grow," she replied. For a moment, her mind become lost in thought as she remembered being taught about them from Arden when she was still young--not much older than a foal herself. But the memories flew away like birds suddenly startled.

"One of the stallions that raised me is great at them, he told me where they go. And to avoid them, and to know the reason and ways they can be used even if it's not a path I should ever take." She recited the words from some deep recess of her memory.

Oh how interesting, Aaron thought to himself. He considered her quite lucky to have an education in such things. He had never had an education in things such as those, he never really had time to with his parents he supposed but then again she didn't either really. "Well I'm glad my memoried didn't fail me there," he chuckled. He bounced ahead singing a silly tune in his head as he went into the woods. One can't often accuse the stallion of being solemn. "So what else do you know about plants? Have you ever learned about the stars?" The celestial bodies above had always fascinated him, though he had never found anyone who knew much about them.

"Yes," she said before she lapsed back into memories as she followed him. Lately, she'd not been getting along very well with Arden. She didn't agree with some of the choices he had made for himself or on her behalf.

She shook her head to clear her thoughts, "I know some about the stars. Not a lot, but I know some names and a story or too. What about you? What kind of things are you good at?"

"That's very interesting, I've always wished to know more about the sky that I fly in."

Now that was a question he felt he couldn't really answer. What was he good at? He could fly well even with his heavier bones, but was that a talent? No, not really. He couldn't draw, dance, or sing that was for sure, not that he knew many tunes to try to sing to anyway. As he had said before, he had no special gift with plants. And given his current predicament it was obvious to him that he wasn't especially great at remembering directions. He was nice and friendly. Usually calm. But those aren't things you're 'good at' persay.

He realized that he had been thinking for a while and Acacia was probably waiting for an answer. He was about to say that he didn't know but when he opened his mouth he said instead, "Mending. I suppose I'm a mender." He always tried to mend doubts and griefs; help heal emotions, and if he could physical maladies. He didn't like to leave feelings rough and stinging, but he also couldn't stand broken objects. He tried to fix things if he could, and he supposed that was what he was good at, fixing things that are broken. Maybe that was why he wanted to go home. Not just to mend his torn family relations but also to come to peace with the past and fix anything that may have been broken.

Acacia tilted her head as she waited for him to answer. He seemed lost in some valley of memories and thoughts that only he knew. She knew what it was like to feel like that, she'd had that very look on her face before too. She gave him the time he needed, and then he spoke.

She considered how to answer him, he seemed to think that this gift was nothing. But it was so much more than that. The words came out of her mouth smoothly, "It is a gift to be able to mend that which is broken--whether it be a bone, a heart, or a fence. It's nothing to frown at. It means much more than being able to tell a few stars apart."

"Yes...I suppose," Aaron was still unsure how useful he had been recently though as he had been so distracted searching for his father. That certainly made him feel a bit guilty, sure he had been trying to mend his own relations, but he should be helping others also. But then again he can't really help others as much if he is broken, right? Well he was trying to help his friend right now wasn't he? They were helping one another. He'd ask her again how he could further help as he felt right now as if he hadn't been recipricating her assistance. His mind had gotten quite jumbled in the past few seconds and he almost knocked right into a tree.

"Whoah!" he shuffled back a few steps. He should really watch where he was going. He crinkled his brow curiously. Something was different about this spot from the others they had gone through. What was it? It felt different but he couldn't place why. He squinted and glanced around apprehensively. It was slowly drawing something up from his distant memory, but it was taking its sweet time...

Acacia couldn't help but laugh a little as he almost stumbled into a tree, but then the look that came over his face stopped her. She waited nearly breathless as he stood there, his brow furrowing. "What's the matter?" She spoke lowly, but it seemed like he was lost again.

Something had struck him (and not the tree). He had seen or heard somethign that reminded him of something and like a leaf on the wind he was trying to grab it and see it for certain. She would wait it out, give him his time and not disturb his train of thought.

Aaron faintly heard Acacia's laugh but it was low and distorted as if his brain wasn't fully comprehending sound anymore. He was looking at a scar on the tree, then he was looking again at the scar fresh after it had been scarred by his father's antlers. A thin flow of sap seeped out of the crack. He looked to his right and saw a mess of twisted and tangle foliage, but in his mind's eye he saw a worn path imprinted by cerynei and regular tracks. He shuddered. "This is it," he whispered.

He turned back to his friend. "This is it," he croaked so incoherently that he believed there was no way she had understood him. "This is it!" he yelled. He flicked his head back around so that his eyes rested on the tree's scar again. "Here" he said, almost to himself, in a daze. "Right around this bend," and he glanced apprehensively which was now again clearly a web of plants.

Sorry it took so long! I'll be more on key now, I had a brief hiatus.

Acacia watched his face, the incredility spreading out. Her heart beat faster as she watched him process it, as he remembered....she wondered what kind of memories would flee back if she went to those old places? Did they even still exist?

She brought herself back to the present, "We did it. You've found it!" She took a deep breath, "Which way now? Let's keep going, more will come back to you."

Aaron eyed the covered trail warily. "Hmm, well...umm..." He thought aloud as he p tried to think of the best way to make it through the brush. He decided it was their best choice to just attempt to conquer the plants, lest they lose their way attempting to go around them. "I think the only way for us is to go right through here..." He cautiously stepped into the tangle of plants. "Just watch your step, it could be easy to get tangled in these." Though he tried to stomp down the plants the best he could as he led the way so that there would be less chance of injury for either of them. His heart was soaring with the happiness of finding his home, but his mind told him to quiet down in case he discovered something that he did not wish to find. I must help Acacia find her home, or at least somehow repay her for her help, he mused.

Acacia tramped down the tangles of vines and bushes that grabbed at her and tried to pull her down. She fought through them and against them, breaking into a light sweat.

She was hoping that he'd find his family, almost as much as she wished she could find someone of hers. "Do you remember much after this?" She called ahead to him.

Aaron examined the brush around them. New vines, but old trees. Yes it was this way. "Ya come this way. The trees should be ending soon and we will go into the clearing." Leading the way he wove his way ahead before pausing at the tree line. He slowly stepped into the opening area he remembered. The grass was taller and looked as though it had not been tread upon for a while. Aaron's heart sunk. His family was not in the clearing as he occasionally allowed himself to hope. He had not expected them to be here, but there's was that slight chance . . . However this was it. It was still home.

"This is it Acacia. This is it. How can I ever repay you?" he asked turning away from the field to look at his companion.
