Nyasa did not want to go to the ball. She had no desire to watch people make tedious small talk and while trying to flaunt their money. She didn’t care to watch people slowly poison their livers. Sadly, Nyasa’s wishes hadn’t been noted. She was told that when she had agreed to work the Halloween events, that had included the ball.
Oh, and that apparently she had to blend in and wear a costume.
Nyasa was pretty sure the she hadn’t been told anything about costumes when she agreed to this gig. Thankfully she had some spare cash and a neighbor that had been eager to get a new doll to dress up. If the costume was a tad skimpier then her employers had had in mind, that was hardly her fault. In fact, Nyasa could actually say that she was somewhat fond of her costume. She had always thought that Queen Akasha was an interesting character.
Nyasa hadn’t had the money to make anything even remotely resembling Akasha’s elaborate headpieces, but her neighbor had helpfully pointed her to an acquaintance that made jewelry and masks. The gold mask with crimson jewels went well enough with her costume, so Nyasa had snagged it.
As she slowly circled the dance floor, she would occasionally glance at her frowning supervisor. Whenever she knew she had his eye, she made sure to walk with a definite slinky sway to her hips. That would always make his frown increase, and since that was the only entertainment Nyasa had, she kept at it as she meandered over to the fancy cake to check it out in greater detail.

An eyebrow rose up into her hairline with a rather teasing look in her eyes as she allowed herself to be tucked in close. There was little to be gained in resisting someone who was over half a foot taller than her, stronger, and so very attractive, so she never bothered. "Jealous, Elzo? Don't worry, I'm fairly certain Scrooge is immune to my charms!" A squeal sounded with the laughter as he picked her up to spin. A familiar cut of blond hair caught her eyes as she spun, and a quick wave was thrown out to Eve with a smile. "Don't worry, you have all my time." With exception, of course, to one or two young men who were her bestest best friends and would have to be danced with! Meanwhile, a very shy young girl dressed in the costume of Mirana the White Queen gave over her ticket and walked elegantly into the ballroom. There were a few girls here who had the same ease in the full skirts and finery as she did, but she was one of the younger ones. There was a notable difference in her costume and the White Queen's, however, and that was the replica of her mother's crown that had been added. Some of Blanche's money had been employed for a replica through a local jeweler, and while it was not made of the same materials, the look was remarkably similar atop her pink hair. Her demeanor relaxed perceptibly as she saw someone familiar, and waved out at Serenade before trotting over towards the simple, but truly elegant young woman. "Serenade! Hello! Happy Halloween?" It was the first time she'd ever really celebrated the holiday; it wasn't really celebrated all that much in Japan, especially past a certain age. Certainly it was not part of Crystal Tokyo, so she had been at quite a loss for what to wear.

Gloria flapped a hand before Adira had even spoken, already walking towards the punch bowl with all the intentions of ditching the two girls, nabbing some munchies, and blowing this joint. She should have stayed home and kicked her brother's a** at Wii boxing or something. She kind of hoped the little b*****d was still awake when she got home so she could do just that. Even Neftali had had the right idea.
By the time Gloria made it to the table, she was staring morosely at the punch bowl. She really should have stayed at home. Neftali was nursing a broken leg, after all, and just because he'd waved her off with a 'balls are retarded, you go ahead,' it's not like it was an automatic 'get-out-of-hanging-with-the-gimp-free' card. More like a 'read between the lines, dumbass, and stay home' card. Man, she was a shitty friend.
Gloria ladled punch into a cup. She was an even shittier drunk. Plunking her drink down on the table, she pulled her clutch from under her arm and popped it open. She may have been a shitty friend, but at least Neftali was still chill.
You're gonna need these, he had said, dead serious, as he dumped a handful of flight-sized bottles of vodka into her open palm earlier that evening. It's not enough to pop the cherry of whatever virgin drink they're gonna serve, but it'll keep you happy. Always gotta keep my girl happy. She twisted the cap off with a frown, not even bothering to be discreet, and poured it into her cup. She abandoned the empty bottle in the festive center-piece and turned back towards the room, nursing her drink against her chest.
What the hell? Why was she letting this get her down? Gloria took a pull of drink and turned back towards the bowl. She had no intention of reuniting with Elegancia and, ew, getting her a drink, but... well... damn. Shitty company was better than no company, and she refused to look like a loser all by herself, so Gloria decided to do the next best thing.
Might as well shape her company. Fishing out another little bottle, she went about mixing and making Ele's drink.

Eve grinned, eyes lighting up as she spotted Audrey and Elzo (d'awww, they were so perfect together!) and returned the bluenette's wave. That meant Marlo was nearby, right? She would definitely have to demand a dance with him to make up for not being able to go to the prom with him, especially after the hilarious way he had asked her.
"Allie!" Serenade said, a pleased smile forming on her lips as the pink haired girl approached her. "Happy Halloween! You look really pretty!" For some strange reason, she was glad they were both wearing white; it was as if they matched, like sisters. Even though they had only just befriended, Serenade thought that Allie was the sort of girl she would like as a younger sister.
The blond girl on the other hand, nodded towards Allie, glad to see that Serenade had found a friend and drifted off to approach her ex-prom date. A smile and nod of acknowledgement was given to the girl beside him and she chirped, poking him in the arm. "Hey, Marlo! You owe me at least one dance!"

((M' going to bed after this and won't be back until later tomorrow, buuuut ~~))
One couple who entered the community-center-turned-dance-hall looked a bit like they had come to the wrong gig. Upon first glance they were most definitely dressed up, but looked more like they belonged at a swanky business party with tons of alcoholic beverages involved than they did at a costume party. Of course, that was the point. Half of the set was composed of a rather handsome-looking young man with spray-dyed black hair -- some Marvel comics fans might have recognized him instantly as someone dressed up as Tony Stark, others might have taken a while to catch on since it wasn't a Tony Stark in the guise of the more iconic Iron Man.
And since the eccentric engineer wasn't out ending wars in his robotic battle suit, it was only natural that he be accompanied by a Pepper Potts as well. Some students from Barren Pines and Meadowview might have recognized Vera Valentine, and her arm looped around Mr. Stark's, as they continued their entrance, wandering around a bit to check out the concessions. Even if you didn't have a sweet tooth, it was hard not to stare at the cake for at least a couple moments before moving on to other things.

Azzo watched the happenings around him boredly. He'd invested himself in leaning on a wall near the food tables with a snack in hand. His Grams had been sent safely off in a cab just earlier to make sure she made it home okay.
His eyes glanced over the crowd jumping from the white queen to lily whom seemed to have bumped into... someone. Who had a comrade in arms with him. He didn't see Aurora or many other people that he knew, not even Melody was here.
Azzo frowned, perhaps this night he was just going to be a wall flower. He mentally shrugged to himself and glanced towards the punch bowl, lofting a brow as a girl seemed to spike the drinks she was making and not the punch itself. Well... there was some decency left in the world after all.
Azzo's honey brown eyes were searching for someone, anyone at all to talk to...

There was only one word necessary to explain her reason to visit such a crowded place.
Cake.
Two words would have made it more accurate. GIANT cake.
********* wanted, no, needed to have some of this cake. Ellie had been so cruel to mention it to her, then refuse to take the cat into the ball. She could understand why the teen didn't want to go to such an event, but it didn't make it any less of a heartbreak for the manx.
So instead, she had found herself a different ally for the infiltration. One that was approximately the same size as her. The cat padded towards a tree that was near the Convention Center and began to trace the potential pathways along the branches. She sat her rump down as she searched, and eventually she glanced to her companion.
"Now, child, you see that branch there?" The cat lacking a tail pointed with a paw towards one branch that was hanging close to the balcony. "We need to get on it, then jump onto the balcony. How are you with climbing, child?"
It was a bit ironic that ********* was calling her companion a child, despite the fact they seemed to be almost the same exact size.

Elegancia felt compelled to inform Adira how Gloria had viciously attacked her with no provocation, but felt it an unsavory and unladylike quality to gossip about other's flaws. When Adira declined on punch, she somewhat wanted to change her mind-- you never knew, Gloria may have intended to put poison in her beverage!!
"Oh, you're here with your father?" She felt envious, and no amount of flattery would console Elegancia. "How lovely! Business or not, time with a family member is always wonderful." When Adira had asked who she was with, Elegancia let her eyes trail off into the distance. "Oh, well, I came alone. Perfectly alone, but there's nothing wrong with that, right?" She said 'right' as if she meant 'you'd better agree with me,' or something to that effect.
"Geeze, I wonder where Gloria is with my punch?" Elegancia began to slightly gyrate to the music, wanting to dance.

As far as special occasions went, Halloween was Vanessa’s favourite. She took a very particular and childish sort of joy out of the season, and went through great pains every year to decorate the little apartment she shared with her little family. This was something that she did both for Christmas and for Easter, but her enthusiasm then was never as blatant as it was in October. When she’d first rifled through her father’s mail and discovered the invitation from Destiny City’s City Council, announcing the Halloween Carnival, Vanessa had grinned from ear to ear and screamed at John Jr to help her pick out a costume immediately.
It had changed about a thousand times before the actual date of the festival, because the first costume wasn’t scary enough, and the second had too many frills, and it was much too hard to move in the third one… etc, etc, etc…
She had decided, finally, upon John Jr’s ‘nerdy’ suggestion because she’d approved of how freaky the glasses made her eyes look.
Vanessa stood in the midst of the ball, unbothered about not having any current company, eyeing the gigantic cake that had been supplied for the evening. It looked very tasty and she wondered, with a mischievous twinkle in her eye, if, should she try a little bit of the icing, anybody would notice.
But she kept her fingers politely to herself, tapping her chin in a thoughtful sort of way.
There were a lot of people in attendance already, and Vanessa suspected that their numbers would only continue to climb. Who was in charge, when it came time to cut the cake, of making sure everybody got a piece?

Luke thought his costume was perfect for a halloween party. It was the first big event that Destiny city had in awhile and Luke wasn't going to miss it! He straightened his wig as he caught a peek of himself on a reflective surface, flipping his long blond hair back.
It had been a very odd sight indeed for drivers who witnessed the man driving on his motorcycle on the way here. Or more accurately put, the female who hadn't bothered to hide her reckless driving that nearly got her in several accidents on the way here in traffic.
Luke's costume of the year was a wonderfully made Alice in Wonderlandcostume, simply adorned with striped stockings. It might have been convincing if he had filled up his chest a little but nevertheless, Luke almost looked like a female! It was just.. But the air around him and his rough walking posture and talk seemed to clearly indicate male.

Meanwhile, Lumiere sat on a table on the balcony alone on a small table. She had opped for the classic witch costume but arranged to fit more suitable for her victorian tastes. It was a witch costume, the dress flared out at the end and a large witch hat sat placidly on her dark blue hair, purple eyes casted down to concentrate on her tea. Similar to other people's reasons, Lumiere couldm't miss one of the largest events held in the small area of Destiny City. Naturally, it seemed like everyone and anyone below the age of thirty came-- including Lumiere.
She swirled the mixture in her cup, a small frown on her lips formed as she sipped the tea. The tealeaves had been brewed far too long and the cup had been at the entirely wrong temperature for this kind of seasonal tea, rashly affecting the taste into an unappealingly bitter one. However, the biscuits served were fairly decent with the tea. Imagine if it had been a more skillfully brewed tea, the party would have been more enjoyable. Perhaps it would be so, if Lumiere took the time to stand up from her seat.
But she saw no rush in joining the festivities. It would last all night long, after all.

Gloria gave the Squall-guy a jaunty salute and feather-lashed wink when she finished up, spinning on her monstrously high heels with practiced ease as she slipped back into the crowd with enough grace to put Catwoman to shame. At this point she was walking to the beat of the music playing through the crowds, swiveling around people expertly and holding her glasses -- one half filled -- over their heads to keep from spilling them. Wow! Maybe if she hadn't given up her job, she would have been halfway decent at that waitressing deal.
When she reached Elegancia and Adira, she stood outside of their little socialite circle and offered the drink with a half-mocking bow, "Ta-da~ No hard feelings, princess?"
Gloria would watch until she had taken her first drink before turning back to the party at large. She sipped from her cup as if to say 'see? yum-yum, punch! drink it up! you can TRUST me!' The only thing that was missing was a s**t-eating grin, but she kept that to a minimum.

Adira had to agree with Elegancia. She DID love when her father asked her to these events, regardless of how much she actually got to see him. "Of course! These events are meant for socializing, not being held down by a date. It was a smart decision." Granted, having a date also could make them much less awkward. Plus by the way the other girl had said 'right', it tended to mean that anything less than agreeing with them would produce bad results.
By the time they had finished chit-chatting, Gloria had returned with Elegancia's drink. She eyed the cup a bit longingly before turning. "I'll be back in a bit, on second thought some punch sounds good." She touched the other girls shoulder lightly, an unspoken comment that said 'come find me if you need me' before turning to leave.
The girl dressed in gold swished her way over to the smoking punch bowls, only pausing to move past a trio of people talking. Two were girls, one who looked vaguely familiar. It didn't take long for Adira to recognize the girl she had met at Jada's ball some time before, she had been with Seth that night. The other girl was a stranger to her, and the boy's face was hidden with a mask. She probably would have recognized the younger of the Xanis brothers had she seen his face however.
"Pardon me." It was said politely to the boy in the middle. The room was beginning to get crowded, with elaborate ballgowns and costumes taking up twice the amount of space than normal. It would have been difficult for her to get by in her own dress if someone in the group didn't leave her a gap.

As Adira waltzed off to mingle with other people, Elegancia simply slid a gloved hand into the air and waved diminutively. She meant to say something like 'goodbye,' but Adira was already out of sight in the sea of flouncy ballgowns. Oh well!
"Well, it's about time," Elegancia spat at Gloria, "I'm not sure if I buy this whole truce thing, you know." Just the same, however, Elegancia snatched the offered punch from Gloria and took a dainty little sip. Her face soured for a second, but she tried not to let it show as it was unbecoming. "Is this... Exotic punch, or something?" It felt warm going down her throat, an unfamiliar sensation to Elegancia.
"I quite like it, though! They sure do know how to get the exquisite things, right? Well, I mean, I wouldn't expect you to know about the finer things in life, but if you want a taste of it, drink the punch!" Elegancia took another sip-- a much bigger sip-- and gulped it down.

Elzo huffed the way he always huffed when Audrey poked fun at him and his small fits of wondering if he was good enough for her. Or was prone to his tiny bouts of moderate male jealousy. They happened with small comments but they always made him wonder if he was good enough for the girl in his arms. He had always been the smile ball, how had he scored the most perfect girl in town? (So he would ask himself almost everyday they were together). After a few more twirls and spins and general laughter, Elzo finally let his partner go, a quick peck on the cheek given before the young man cited how she ought to go chat with her friends. He wanted to go say 'Hi' to someone.
Alone.
Marlo felt relief wash over HIM when the girl said she was alright. Pulling out a small handkerchief, he offered it out of habit. "It's a mix. You pick the style and look, they just fit it to your body type. You're a bit right though, most people don't wear these unless its Carnival or they're performers. I figure it would be perfect for this wort of event. Besides, it makes for fun run ins when people mistake me for my brother." A small chuckle. the one time he wouldn't mind. No one would fight him here of all places thinking he was Elzo. A good change from Hillworth. The sound of a familiar voice drew his attention to the side. It took a moment, (to his shame) to remember just why Eve would want a dance from him. "Oh yeah. Prom." He nodded with a slight understanding. They'd missed out. Everyone had really. "Glinda and..." He looked at Eve's companions. "I'm afraid I don't know the other costumes. You'll have to introduce me later." Bowing at Lily, Marlo reached his hand towards his old prom date. "If you'll excuse me miss, I'm afraid I do owe the good witch a dance. Maybe after we can talk again?" However a another girl approached. She seemed familiar. "Uh, pardon." Marlo was very unused to being around so many people. "Do I know you by chance?"

The man in front of her looked confused at her arrival, like someone who had too many things to concentrate on at once. "I'm sorry for the intrusion, I was simply trying to get past." She paused, however, at his inquiry. Adira attempted to figure out of she knew the boy, but couldn't make the connection with the mask covering his face.
"I'm not sure, considering I can't see your face?" While she had a mask as well, it didn't hide as many of her features as his did. Adira looked at him quizzically. He was vaguely familiar in a way that she couldn't quite place.
