“Certainly. We’d be glad to have you in our home.” FD responded to Tiki. He probably had just as many questions for her as she for him and Nils, anyway. And they weren’t about to let a dragon go about on the streets, especially since the racist laws had only recently been done away with.

Just speaking with her now, FD wondered how old this dragon actually was. In this human form, she looked roughly the same age as Nils. But that was largely irrelevant; FD knew as well as any other dragon that one’s human appearance was largely misleading. Plus, Tiki didn’t seem to be from Elibe, and things could apply differently in whatever world she happened to be from.

“I’m completely better now, thanks Roy.” FD shifted his attention to Roy’s question. “And largely thanks to your efforts while I was knocked out, I’ve been told. I haven’t had a chance to properly thank you for that, nephew.

--

So Ninian had appeared and been sighted. And apparently she was much more capable a fighter with her scarf than before. Perhaps…- she would appear again soon, Nils couldn’t help but hope. And this time he would see her too.

“Yeah, it would be our pleasure to have you as our guest.” Nils said to Tiki, reassuring her of what FD had already told her. “And why don’t you come over for dinner tonight, too, nephew?” It might be the last truly nice meal any of them would have in a while, with all the preparation that was going on.

Not as much dragon blood? Tiki had never heard of a half dragon before, or a... less-blooded dragon? There had been no new dragons for hundreds of years! At least, that was what she had been told by other dragons back in her own world. Maybe the rules were different here. Or there. Come to think of it, FD had looked different from the Fire Dragons she was used to seeing. Anyone could still tell he was a Fire Dragon, though. That was obvious.

"Most of the negative laws? I, well... I don't really know what the laws were. I just was thrown out of the city one day." It sounded even stupider out loud. She could tell that she had missed out on A LOT. The chaos was too much for her, and it hadn't occurred to her to search for a pattern. It was too much to take at the time, especially since she was still quite clueless about her current locale.

But that could wait a little longer.

"Where is the house? Are you going to it now?" She replied eagrly.

User ImageThings were well with the others, that Ziaram chose to stay quiet behind them all. The only time the smile left his face, from seeing Tiki was well, was when Ninian was mentioned.

She didn't seem like herself when I saw her in that forest. Something must have happened to her since we all last saw her. But why?

He tuned back in when he heard something about not much dragon blood. Roy...well, I guess that is possible. I mean Ninian is his mother. That would make sense, since the young bard is also a dragon. But still...didn't really see that.

But it seemed his reunion with Tiki was being cut short, due to her being invited to the dragon couple's house. "Well, I am sure our paths will cross again."

Cut short indeed. Tiki hadn't forgotten about Ziaram, but it hadn't occurred to her that she wouldn't be able to catch up with him if she went with the dragons. She really didn't want to hurt his feelings. It wouldn't be fair if she just left him, especially when he had been so nice to her in the mountains, when no one else did.

But this was really important!

"Wait, Ziaram! She shouted quickly. I'm really sorry. I really do want to talk to you, but..."
She hardly ever had to do anything like this on her own. Why, she had no idea. Talking was easy sometimes, but other times it was not. The time she had spent in the human villages was so brief. And she had the hand of an elder dragon to hold all the way. Her time with humans (not just humans, but People!) was so warm, happy, and full of companionship, but so, so...

No one could tell her what to say now! She hadn't thought this far ahead!

"Uh... Are you going to stay in the city!? I mean, can I see you soon?"

User ImageBAM! That is how fast a reply can go. Some even knock you off your feet. But, when you haven't seen someone for quite sometime, and the reunion seems to be cut short, that can happen. This situation was no different.

However, she still seemed a bit happy. Although she would be staying with the dragon couple. He would still see her around town, spend time with her like anyone else could. "Of course you can see me again. I've been staying here for sometime. It's been the place that welcomed me in after I arrived from Impersus. The only reason I would leave would be for training reasons. You already know I am a swordsman from the mountains."

Turning to face FD, he could remember the first time seeing the dragon. The dragon scared the living daylights out of him...till he remembered he was on a battlefield, and continued to retreat. However, now he knew that he didn't have to be afraid. It may have been right to fear dragons sometimes in Impersus, but that was not the case here. This is a blessing in disguise. I know it.

Roy shook his head when his Uncle directed his thanks to him for what he did for the elder dragon the other night.

"If anyone deserves thanks for that, it's Blythe. I merely directed him towards you to heal when I saw you go down and helped cover him while he tended to your injuries. Besides, you would do the same for me if I was in your situation. We're family, after all. I'll always make sure you're safe, since I know a certain bard who'd be heartbroken if anything happened to you." he replied modestly, reaching over to pull the shorter Uncle in for a noogie.

After some bonding time with Nils (and getting pulled into a headlock by the shota before getting noogied), the young lord was invited over for dinner. It had been a while since the family had last gotten together for a meal. Even though they were one dragon short, the female dragon had been invited.

"I'll swing by there, certainly. Thank you for the invitation, Uncle." the young lord said, a small smile on his face.

The dragon girl was speaking with Ziaram now, and then Roy took a step back before giving a small bow.

"There's some things I need to take care of, but I'll certainly come by for dinner when I'm done with them." he said. "It was nice seeing you guys again, and nice meeting you, madam Dragoness. See you tonight."

And with that, the young lord set off on his own.

It was not long before he made it home. Along the way, he had watched Lance getting chased about by a tiger, and a Cat Laguz get chased by a girl or two. He had picked up some groceries from the market and proceeded to unlock the door. Once the door was open, he stepped inside. There was something under his boot from that first step. He set the basket down on the table before picking up the note someone had slipped under his door. His name was barely legible on the front, as if someone was in a rush to write it. He flipped it open and read its contents.

Roy,
I’m sorry I’ve been acting so strangely for the past year; I haven’t been myself. I don’t have time to explain, but know that I love you, and I’m sorry. I am going away again, and please—don’t try to find me. It will only hurt us both.
Tell Nils and FD I love them, and I'm sorry.
Please don’t worry; I am safe, I will be safe.
I’m sorry. I love you.

Ninian Your Mother

... What? He re-read the letter, but the contents hadn't changed. Ninian was leaving again, and what was worse, she didn't even bother saying that to him in person. Didn't have time to explain, huh? ... Well, she must have had her reasons. He was a bit curious as to why she had said finding her would only hurt the two of them and...

She had scratched her name out, and instead scribbled 'Your Mother' on it. Why the scratch-out? If she was going to write 'Your Mother', why bother putting her name on it in the first place? It just didn't make any sense. He was worried about her though. His eyes were hidden under his bangs as he thought of how to handle this, and in the end...

... He would deal with this after the war. Even though this was just as important, he couldn't just ditch everyone here at the end. He wouldn't make his Uncles worried about this, as they had enough on their plates without worrying about Ninian right now. After the war... yes, after the war. He would look for her after the war. He might not have had a good reason to go look for her now, but perhaps once Sentria and Mordache were stopped, he could have an answer.

User Image500g? Seriously? Well, that was sure a cheap price for a Talisman, but Leon would take it if that's what Rahkain was offering for the resistance-boosting artifact. "Mighty thanks, man. This'll help me out more than you ever know." Leon nodded, taking the Talisman after he'd paid and staring at it as it rotated in his grasp. Its beautiful red jewel in the middle was something special, something that made one like him, who wasn't so strong against magic... suddenly resilient against it.

There was something that Rahkain said that at first reminded him of another friend of his. "What use does a shopkeep have in a war ya say? Dun' even ask! If ya weren't there givin' us our essentials, we'd be fallin' quicker than a line of dominoes, ya know!" Leon joked at the 'junk collector', all the while still moving slowly to make it at least look like he was trying to do his rounds.

But the other thing that Rahkain said struck home all too well, and made him and Anri go stiff. The man was from Mordache? Really? And... he ran away because he hated the way things were going. That story sure sounded familiar, Leon thought, as he chuckled. He knew how the ranger must be thinking at the moment. He must have thought he and the other Learanians would hate him, because he was from Mordache and he was a deserter. "Listen 'ere. Ya left Mordache willingly because ya didn't like it, right? Well, I'm not gonna bore ya with the details, because I doubt you'd believe 'em, but... let's just say that I left my own homeland 'cuz I hated it too. Ain't nothin' wrong with leavin', and stayin' somewhere else, just so long as yer loyal to where ya stay."

“It’s right on the northwest edge of the city,” Nils cheerfully answered to Tiki, “as close as you can get to FEFGA’s manor while in the city, if you know where that is. We just came from there to see if all our friends who had been displaced because of the negated laws had returned, but we can head back now so you know exactly where it is first, if you’d wish.” Indeed, the dragons were curious and worried for all their friends, but showing where they lived to one of their own whom they’d just befriended was also important. Especially so in consideration of the observation that Tiki came off as intimidated and confused under the circumstances of not knowing the city too well or too many people in it.

“Oh, Blythe,” FD responded to Roy’s credit-deflecting explanation, “the healer that went with us?” The dragon hadn’t paid the Troubadour much attention, but he knew the boy had been in attendance when the Resistance went to confront Rogvald and at the meeting at the Manor before that. Other than that however, FD didn’t know anything about this Blythe; he made a mental note to thank him should the opportunity arise.

“Even if that’s so, your help was invaluable, so please accept our thanks.” The young lord was exactly right in his comment that Nils would be shattered should something have happened to FD, just as FD would be should something happen to Nils. “Take care until we see you tonight.”
