Little brother? Does that mean this woman was her mother as well? She frowns inwardly. This woman must be something else entirely. "The house is beautiful." She says lamely. "My previous masters weren't that horrible." She continues. "Just very...forgetful." And none too far-thinking. She thinks of all the times she was sold on a whim.

Rini continued to cook. "Good, your room is down the hall the first door on the left." She said happilly. "Well nun the less this is your home now and will stay your home till you want to leave. Your my daughter now and I will care for you like one of my own." She said looking at the time and started to set the table.

Sydelle has been a slave for too long to believe there can actually be a mistress like this woman. "Luck is a lady." Her father said once. "But not only is she fickle, she's also a liar." She shakes her head. It's been a while since a memory of her family popped up. "Thank you." She says kindly, at a loss for what else to say.

Rini looked up at Sydelle smiling. "Your welcome." She walking back to the stove to turn it off. "Please go wash up for dinner. I'll go get your little brother and we can start to eat." She said sweetly and walked to Dante's room to get him.

Rini walked in Dante's room seeing he was still sleeping and gently picked him up. She craddled him as she walked back to the kitchen and sat Dante on a chair. She put some food on all the plates waiting for Sydelle to come back and for Dante to wake up. 'I don't think Sydelle likes it here' Rini thought sighing softly.

Sydelle walks back in and takes a seat. She looks at the sleeping Dante, then at Rini. "Why are you doing this?" She asks finally.

Rini sat down looking at Dante making sure he was asleep still and looked at Sydelle with a sweet smile. "Because, it looked like you needed a home and Dante wanted to get you out of there." She said with a blank face. "He was scared in there and you made it seem not so bad for him. The lest I can do was take you home and make you part of our family now." She said and started to eat. 'I knew she didn't like it here' She thought taking another bite of food.

Sydelle eats for a while, thinking. Maybe she is just a good person. She muses. Afterall, there must be some of them somewhere. She looks again at the little boy. He called her "mommy" so easily. "I wish I could be that old again." She thinks aloud. "Must be nice to accept good fortune so easily."

Rini put down her chopsticks and looked at Sydelle. "How old are you Sydelle? You look only 16 or 18 at lest." She said looking her over to be sure she though the age was right. She sighed a little. "Not really...in the end the fortune will go away and your left with nothing but the things you already have." She said softly and starting to eat again.

"17" Sydelle replies, without much feeling. Age was never something of great consequence to her. She looks at Dante again. Hard to think there was a time I was that peaceful. She thinks. "And I'm far too cynical for my age." But not for my vocation. She adds mentally.

Rini nods. "Ok, I was close then." She said with a blank face and took another bite of food. "Its fine with me just as long as you respect me and Dante, I'll respect you." She said and looked up at her. She doesn't mind dealing with evil people and the stuff they would do to her but she minds if they do something to anyone she cares about.

Sydelle stares at her blankly, not understanding. Oh no. She realizes with a inward groan. I've done it again. "I'm sorry I offended you." She says quietly. "Social etiquette was never something I mastered." She pauses a moment before continuing. "I really am grateful, it's just..." She stops. If she continues she'll have to open a part of her mind she shut off a very long time ago.

"You didn't offend me." Rini said getting up and walked to the fridge to get something to drink. "Its fine I was never good talking to people." She said laughing softly and pourd some drinks for them. She walked back putting the cups down and sat down taking a drink. She saw Sydelle stop talking when she got to a point and put her cup down. "You don't need to tell me anything you don't want to Sydelle. I'll always be here if you need to talk about it." She said giving her a sweet smile as she went back to eating.

Sydelle smiles. Rini is one of a kind as far as mistresses are concerned. Unfortunately, years of being shut off have their effect. How long will it be before she can speak about it? Not very soon. She thinks with a small sigh, taking a sip of her drink. "I have a question." She says suddenly. "If you hate slavery so much, then why did you go to a slave market?"
