Turning her head at the commotion, Emily noticed her running partner was falling back. Should she fall back too?! Was Shehk just pacing herself so she could full out sprint at the end? This must be some sort of track team strategy! For a moment, the witch almost slowed down, but then she heard the other witch's shouting.

Destruction of clothes?! She didn't even know how to sew! Well, she did in theory, but in practice it probably shouldn't involve quite so much...bloodshed. And they were supposed to keep their uniforms neat, and clean! If her uniform was destroyed, she could fail.

Fail.

FAIL.

In her sudden panic, the little witch had yet to realize she had actually succeeded in speeding up.

The white werewolf tilted her head to one side as Belladonna yelled, looking like Halloweentown's largest puppy caught chewing something it shouldn't have. But the Halloweentown's largest puppy wasn't ambidextrous (except for those undead constructed puppies with several 'additions) and able to carefully pick the lace out before laying it carefully onto the bench. All right, so it was ripped and ruined where her fangs got snagged on it and it ended up being torn into two pieces, but hey -- at least Red didn't bury it somewhere.

Rather than have a repeat of when she first began the chase, Red lunged forward and snarled, fur bristling as she headed for the first student -- Chuppi, who had somehow ran straight into a corner! "You should have zigged when you zagged!" Red snarled, reaching out to swipe at the Chupacabra. Thwa-tap! "You're out! Go recover on the bench and watch where you run next time!"

The teacher then crouched down and jumped, springing off the wall to perform an exaggerated U-turn. A show-off? But of course. Unfortunately, it wasn't much the case for Lilura who was almost knocked down as the teacher flew past her! She, too, was tagged in passing. "Go rest on the bench, and pick up the pace next time!"

The next to receive the teacher's treatment was Shehk as the teacher appeared next to her, a barely-hidden snicker coming from the werewolf at the teacher's antics. "You can shapeshift -- use it to your advantage! Also? You're out."

She bounded away, stopping to playfully snap at Kasumi's heels for a bit before reaching out to tag the ghost. It was odd -- the teacher's paw actually stopped to touch the ghost, not go through it as solid things usually do. "Boo!" She shouted, "Gotcha, go sit on the bench!"

Valentino had the right idea of things, however signalling to the witch cost him the speed he needed to keep up. "Ha!" Red shouted, giving his leg a light tap as she ran past him. "Ni-ni-achoo! Good use of glitter, but definently, definintly wash your clothes at least three times to get rid of it all!"

"Hmm. I think a re-design for the gym uniforms is in order," Red commented to Tybalt as she loped next to him, tsking under her breath. "However, even a fashion faux pas can't save you now. Tag! Go join the others on the bench."

The werewolf cut across the gym floor to snap and snarl at Belladonna, encouraging the witch to run faster. "Pretty things like lace and ribbon," she growled, "Are things fiends like myself like to grab onto! Watch what you wear -- even my cloak isn't an exception to grabby hands when I'm being chased!" The teacher heightened her speed, tagging her as she ran by. "Out!"

Unfortunately for Sin, this time wouldn't be the last time she would have to run as hard -- not if Red could help it, at least. If today was a swimming lesson, then the succubus probably wouldn't have been caught. But since it wasn't, the teacher reached out to tag the demoness anyway. "Lift those legs up a bit more! You've got the leg-length, use it!"

Last but not least, Red turned her attention to the last runner. The werewolf found it quite amusing to run in circles around Emily to watch the poor witch panic, but stopped long enough to tag her. "Keep your mind focused on what's going on around you: what's chasing you, what's behind, and what's about to come at you from the side. If you're distracted..." The werewolf shrugged, following the student back to the benches.

"All right," Red began, sitting on her haunches before the students. "Take a break, go get a drink from the drinking fountain -- it's right there, behind you guys in that alcove there -- and..." The teacher trailed off, staring. She raised a claw and began counting her students under her breath, looking at them quizzically. "Eight... nine? Where's the last of you..?"

Red stared. Okay, so there were some undead students, ghosts, the demoness, the reapers, the -- wait. She counted again. Where was the winged reaper? It suddenly occured to her then to look up, towards the rafters. "HEY!" She shouted up to Valkjosandi, "This isn't Stealth Class! Come down here with the rest of the students! You can do 20 push-ups when you get down here, too."

"All right, now that we're here..." The werewolf began, reaching out to tag the Valkyrite as he walked by, "There! As I was saying: good run?" She smirked at their responses. "It's good that you're worn out. I bet you've noticed something, having you? Aside from the limit of your endurance, did any of you feel anything as I tagged you? A jolt of something unexpected, a slight chill -- no? Look again, and feel for it. That is your Fear."

"Fear is what enables you to do the unexpected. Some of you know the extent of one of your abilities -- something you can do briefly and in the spur of the moment. It is your... power, in a way. But in order to tap into it, you must first know your limits."

daf;lskdf!

Shehk had practically forced herself to screech to a halt when Red came out of nowhere, not really attempting to 'backpedal', but rather trying to not slide across the floor and into the werewolf. Either way, it seemed she'd resigned herself to her fate of being caught, her ears drooping ever so sadly as she planted herself on the bench to catch her breath.

It had been a decent run (and given her daily physical activities, she wasn't COMPLETELY winded), but that didn't mean she didn't feel a little bit wired. On her normal daily run she wasn't being chased by a giant, more terrifying variant of herself. Maybe if she started projecting that....well, no.. that didn't really work for her. Hmmm. Either way, while Red made a point of getting the Valkyrie back into the game, she took advantage of the drinking fountain (which was at least cleaner than the detention-bathroom... she shuddered a little bit at the though), before fully retiring on the bleachers.

Huh, her legs felt a LOT more sore now that her buzz was starting to wear off, which, while expected to some extent, it seemed to make a lot more sense when the teacher began to explain 'FEAR'.

However, when she was asked to 'feel' for it, she just frowned and settled into the seat a bit more, leaning on the footrest of the seats behind her.

"It's a bit too bright for me to feel much of anything in here.." she grumbled under her breath, unaware of just how 'correct' her statement was for her situation.

With a heavy sigh, Belladonna halted her run into a few staccato steps before turning to watch the Wolf Teacher finish tagging everyone else. Red's words turned over in her head, making her pout a little as she considered them. But didn't Red run in wolf form instead of Teacher Form? Its not like her Wolf Form had her cloak (though it was very pretty) to fly about and become something people could grab for. HAD Red ever run in her Teacher Form? Perhaps she had when she was a student... And perhaps she had been caught as a student too. Oh! This was getting Belladonna nowhere, so she marched over to her fallen lace, picked it up and rubbed the two mangled pieces between her fingers. It had looked so lovely around the edges of her shorts, but now what remained was tattered and frayed...

A quick drink of water and a plop on the bench made her aching legs feel a bit better, but the thing she fretted most over was the FEAR. Had she felt it? Had she imagined she felt it? It was much easier to imagine feeling something than actually feeling it. What a bother that was too... So with closed eyes, Belladonna leaned back and breathed slowly. Harkening to herself, she listened for that little bit of power resting somewhere within...

Chuppi nearly shrieked with terror the moment the wolf came her way, the corner having been her ultimate undoing, and the chupacabra braced herself as she was "tagged" by the teacher. It didn't hurt as much as she expected it to, perhaps she was a lot more sturdy than she origninally thought, but none the less Chuppi was knocked a bit and told to go place herself on the bench. With a hiccup she got off all fours and started to waddle over to the bench, doing her best not to cry, though several tears managed to silently leak themselves down her cheeks by the time she reached her destination. She had to pull herself up to sit on it even though it was fairly low, and instead of sitting she practically sprawled out as she buried her face into her arms.

Maybe...maybe if Chuppi was bigger than she wouldn't have gotten tagged so easily. Maybe if she was bigger, scarier, then the teacher might have thought to leave her alone. Something inside of her ached in response to her desires, a feeling she didn't quite recognize, and she lifted her head up to listen to the teacher and her explanation. This uneasiness in Chuppi, her desire to look bigger and scarier...that was her FEAR? The chupacabra had always relied on her natural abilities to carry her through anything, so this new sensation was... unsettling. The teacher had better hurry and explain more soon, Chuppi was getting unhappy again!

Sin felt the tag like a sudden jolt for a moment she felt oddly...triumphant? Except SHE didn't really feel that way did she? Startled she moved to get a drink of water and then happily to rest on the bench. She was half annoyed by the professors speed, but at least she hadn't been the only one tagged out. Besides...she stretched her legs out infront of herself admiringly, the professor was right she would just have to put these gorgeous gams to better use next time.

She glanced over and noticed the little green monster, Chuppi was it? She looked like she was...were those tears? Was the monster actually crying? Sin frowned a bit and lightly leaned in towards her, she didn't want to look all monster sympathetic, but she did feel sort of bad for her.

"Hey...don't take it so hard, we ALL got tagged out." She muttered softly to the small monster before turning her attention away and back onto the professor, she couldn't be caught looking all soft after all. She flipped her hair back and lifted her chin a little higher in her usual gaze of arrogance.

So the teacher had given them a taste of their fear, how interesting. Had that been the strange surge of emotion she had felt? How did you know when you were using your fear? She tried to regain that odd sense of triumph but found that the sensation was long gone. She had a feeling it hadn't been her own emotion...how interesting.

(( @Maru - The Big Bad Wolf fight was my FAVORITE because there was such sheer and unadulterated terror in not knowing who would be picked next. And once you saw the timer, everyone in our group edged towards the walls and backed up and BAM START RUNNING IF HE TOUCHES YOU, YOU DIE.

Oh man there is nothing like it! Well except Gorefiend and becoming a ghost. That was BADASS. ))

Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear.

Since Kasumi wasn't out of breath, she paced the floor where the other students were sitting, resting. Something in Miss Professor Red's touch awakened something inside her that Kasumi didn't much care for - she could hear whisperings of someone else in the room she couldn't see, and the walls of the gymnasium became pillars of fire. Kasumi was suddenly thankful that she couldn't feel heat physically, but psychologically, it was extremely unnerving. Without anyone else to turn to, the ghost nervously sat next to Belladonna, the one she knew best in the class. She kept her eyes plastered to the walls, watching as faces darted in and out of the flames.

Wait, Miss Professor Red said it was their Fear she awakened? Whatever it was, Red's touch made Kasumi's hallucinations worse. Much more acute than they used to be, but perhaps this was part of what the werewolf was talking about? She wanted rid of them - this was much more intense than a strange man standing in a corner or a tentacled monster wandering through walls at night. Coupled with the voices she heard, Kasumi wished to have it all spill into someone else's mind for a change.

Tybalt just about snorted when the gym clothes were mentioned again. "Ya think?" He asked; his tone sarcastic, before he realized who was talking to him. "Oh shi---"

Aaaand tagged! Coming to an immediate stop he watched helplessly as the teacher ran past him, continuing her pursuit of the other students. All of which were easily being picked off and in such a short amount of time.

Damn! And he thought there was some hope of evading the she wolf? Boy was he mistaken!

Like the others, with defeat came disappointment. Though he did his darnedest best not to let it show on his face. Unlike poor Chuppi. She was proving to have a more difficult time doing that. She was already crying.

Once comfortable among the rest of the small group, he listened to the teachers words; letting them sink in. "Fear?" He repeated the word curiously. He had heard of it before, but had never actually spoken or asked about it before now. Was that the sensation he was feeling now? It was kind of weird and uncomfortable. But all things strange to him were.

The youngest of the Device's found herself stumbling and nearly falling at the sudden tag from the instructor. Emily hadn't even realized she was there! And what was that feeling?! Head hanging low, the witch made her way to the benches. She had failed. Again. It was hard to look beyond past failures when there were just so many of them. She gave a glance to the crying chupacabra, and was tempted to join her in the moment of misery.

"At least you didn't fall this time," came an irate voice at her feet. Did the cat sound a bit disappointed by this? No, that couldn't be!

That's right! She stayed on her feet! The whole time! Eyes tearing up a little, Emily picked up her familiar for a firm cuddle, "Thank you Mr. Monty, I'll try harder next time. No matter what, I'll hang in there!" No matter what he says, he really did have her best interests at heart! The moment would have been slightly more touching if the cat wasn't thrashing and cussing.

"What did she say about paying attention?! If I have to be here at least get an education, Jackdamn you!"

"Thank you!"

"Don't thank me, just let me go!"

At the Pricolici's grumble, the large werewolf tilted her head to one side in consideration. Something something... bright? The lighting? She sniffed the air, her red eyes studying the students as they sat -- some befuddled, others miserable, the rest probably wishing class was over already. She glanced at the witch with her loud familiar (it was too bad the obstacle course was outside -- she'd have loved to chase him as a warm-up!), then proceeded to ignore them as the cat reminded the witch of the current situation.

"Fear," Red repeated, nodding a confirmation to Tybalt. "That is the name of the power that resides within all of us in Halloweentown. It is not the same fear that gives you pause, that makes you afraid to do something. Fear - with a capital 'F' mind you, - is what makes us all. You, myself, the bench you are all sitting on to the water in the pool; everything is created from Fear. It is a force that binds us, that gives us life and holds back death."

The werewolf studied the students carefully, "Death can happen in Halloweentown, and it can be very permanent. Some of you have noticed... something within you, from an unsettling feeling to something that burns brightly within you. That is your Fear -- or rather, your excess of it." She paused, then began to pace back and forth as she spoke. "It may not seem like much now, but the more you learn and train can and will enable you to expand upon your Fear. The more Fear you have, the harder it is to take you out. Think of it..."

The teacher stopped to wave her paw-like hands around, as if grasping for a concept the students could relate to. "Think of it as... a canister, or a jar. When you are attacked in battle, it is similar to pouring some of the Fear out. When it's empty, you can no longer attack. When the jar is smashed, well, you don't want it smashed." She looked at them again, adding, "Or, to those that play Nintenskull or any other sort of gaming system, Fear is your hit and magic points. Use too much, and you can't move or cast another spell until you regenerate some more."

"Thankfully," she continued in a lighter tone, "On campus you don't need to worry about going too far with sparring -- spars and disputes handled on campus will be watched by either a referee or a teacher. If anything becomes too serious, the injured party will be taken to Nurse Cricket."

"And when you go to visit Cricket, be very, very careful of where you step. Now who wants to hit something?"

Without waiting for a response to her abrupt topic change, the teacher turns and walks further into the gym. "C'mere! Look at this -- come on, you won't fall into the pool, just walk on the see-through surface already. All right, you see where the water's edges meet the gym floor? That's the boundary for this inside sparring arena. Try to keep your attacks inside. Now, I want all of you to line up in more or less a straight line."

The werewolf continued to lecture, "Now plant your feet about a shoulder's width apart, knees bent at... Eeeh, say 45-degrees? No need to be accurate -- bend your knees a bit, not so rigid! You want to be a bit, well, bouncy is a word for it I guess. Now bring your arms up, hands in fists."

"Be wary of where you placed your thumb -- do not curl your fingers around your thumb. Unless you want to break your thumb, then go right ahead but don't blame me I told you so. Instead wrap it around your closed fingers, between the first and second joint of your hand. Keep your wrists straight, head and back straight, then throw the punch. Neat, huh? Now try to tap into your Fear. Picture it covering your fist, and try again."

-----------
HP VALUES AND YOU!
Just because you rolled a low HP value doesn't mean you should despair! In TiH, the person with the lowest HP value goes first. This is to cut down on the amount of dice you will be rolling.
Exceptions:
► If there is a tie, each person should roll 1d20. Whoever rolls highest goes first.
► Scripted event. If you really, really want to ambush someone, you may with their permission -- but doing so outside of the battle arenas might land you into a detention you wish you never landed in.

All spars end when the first person hits 10 HP. Your HP is your Fear -- think of Fear as being the same thing as the Force is in Star Wars, or even Chi/Qi/yourchoiceofspellinghere. It's not just your HP bar: Fear is your HP, MP, and your very essence rolled into one.
10 HP: Your character can still walk. No inability to move; some bruising.
5 HP: Your character is beginning to stumble. Bruises.
1-4 HP: Your character can't see straight. Bruises, possible fractures.
0 HP: K.O. Your character is knocked out cold.
-5 HP: Unconscious. This isn't good.
- 6 to -9 HP: This really isn't good.
- 10 HP: Immediate hospital visit required. Your character is injured to the point where they REQUIRE a Fear Healer in order to function.

As soon as a character hits 10 HP the spar/battle is over. If you go past 10 HP, the spar/battle is over. If you go all the way to -10 HP then you risk becoming banned from being able to spar/battle until your character can better manage their Fear.

Now, roll a 2d6 or two, six-sided dice. We're learning how to hit things! 8D

Kasumi didn't much care for the intensity of the visions she was experiencing now. Whatever Miss Professor Red did, it made her visions worse and Kasumi wanted nothing more than to have someone else suffer with them for a change. Frowning, she was considering her options when Miss Professor Red lectured and told them to line up to begin punches? Punching things? She didn't have to worry about breaking bones she didn't have, thankfully. One less thing to worry about, at least. Kasumi tried to keep calm while the walls of the gym steadily grew worse and worse with fire and brimstone.

Mimicking the motions, Kasumi watched the other students and did as they did.

A punch? What was a punch? Chuppi didn't quite understand what was going on once she was forced to stagger to her feet and join the others near the teacher, and it was with a weary expression that she watched their actions. Was that weird stuff they were doing "punching" and "kicking" ? It sort of looked like the brawling that she and her brothers often did together minus the fangs and quills, so the chupacabra had a decent idea of what was expected.

Too tired to ask questions and too tired to try anything out on her own she merely mimicked what she'd been shown, a decent pose in hand as she thrust outward. Punch! Punch! Kiiiick?

Chuppi was tired.
