Illidan watched his foal and Doan together. "His mother and I, it wasn't meant to be, but we decided to divide up the responsibility of raising our children. I'm sorry I didn't mention him sooner, but I had to be sure you were alright."
The foal looked up at the strange mare. "Greetings. Do you have foals, too?"
"Cori," Illidan sighed, giving an apologetic smile to Doan. "I'll show you to the water-dweller when you're ready."

"No, no, I understand." She assured, still looking the foal over. Considering the size of his father and her own petite height, she wasn't completely surprised that he looked nearly as tall as her already. Turning back around to Illidan, she smiled. "I'm glad it sounds like your separation was amiable. I would be sad for your child if he couldn't know his mother." The expression on her face was already shifting to something thoughtfully sorrowful when Coridan asked her the question. And while it still hurt to be reminded and she was grateful for his father's care, she shook her head. "It's alright, he's a child," she directed at the stallion before looking back to the colt.
"I do," she responded simply. And though her voice held a hint of sadness, she still regarded the foal with kindness and a smile. "I think I'm ready to go," she spoke up next, turning so that both boys were in her vision. "If you both are."

Illidan nodded, ushering his son gently with a wing. "I'll take you to the water-dweller then, but a small warning... she's not like other water-dwellers. She's pleasant enough when she wants to be, but she's rather--how shall I put this?--different-looking and might be a little frightening at first." He knew his water-dwelling friend's disposition and didn't want the mare he was coming to consider his friend to be scared away by her.
The foal let his father corral him, but soon fell into step with Doan. "Is your foal my age or older? Is it a boy or girl? Will I get to meet your foal?" Innocent and inquisitive, Coridan had no idea that the questions might upset the mare.

"I've seen some strange things," she assured. Although, she also tried not to think of it that way. Appearances were rarely what they seemed, after all. Doan only felt a sickness in her stomach when she began to think along those lines. It happened, she was only mortal, but still. "But I'll keep that in mind." She grew silent for a few minutes after, as if in a daze. Walking became automatic and her gaze was glued forward. That is, until she felt a presence at her side. A little smile peeked at the corner of her lips and she glanced over.
"Oh, well..." she mused on his questions for a moment, feigning a look of thought. "A girl," came the answer. There was a sound of mixed emotions in her voice. Loving, the way a mother would talk about her child, but still somewhat sad. "Let's see, she's much older than you, surely an adult by now." It really had been such a long time. "We're looking for her, so I hope you can meet her soon."

"Looking for her? Is she lost? Father is good at finding things, except for himself," Coridan told the mare matter-of-factly.
Illidan glanced back at his son. "Coridan, leave her be." The were soon approaching a cave on the beach and the stallion turned to Doan. "I'll go up first and let Darkspine know she has company and then come back for you and the colt." He trotted off to the cavern leaving his son in the mare's care.
Coridan was quite for a whole two seconds before looking up at Doan. "Have you known Father long?"

"Lost... is a way to put it." Doan ducked her head momentarily, then glanced up to Illidan. "Alright, we'll wait here," she responded, giving a nod. When the stallion had gone, she shifted slightly, back and forth on her hooves. Fortunately, the little one at her side pulled her from her thoughts before she could really begin to think them. "How long?" she questioned back, though it was meant more for herself. "Well, hardly long at all." Tilting her head, she smiled, looking genuinely thankful. "A mare I met told me how to find your father when I needed help and he accepted my request at the very same time we first met."

Coridan nodded, content with this answer. "Father likes to help others, but I can't really remember him looking for people to help." The colt leaned into her side. "I think he likes you. He needs a friend."
Soon enough, Illidan came back from up the beach. He tilted his head at his son's familiarity with the mare, but stayed silent on it. After all, he did trust Doan. "Darkspine agreed to help, but she said she wants to meet you first. I'll take you to her."

"You think so?" she responded, sounding a bit more happy than questioning. Doan had always been the type to keep moving, as if to hide her guilt. There had been a few times since coming to the Kawani lands that she had settled down in one place, made some good friends, and felt like maybe she had found somewhere to stay. However, her thoughts always caught up with her the longer she remained and she had eventually left every such place behind. Some of the friends she had made she had not seen in many years.
In the time she had been with Illidan, she had begun to feel comfortable again. And the guilt that normally haunted her was no so great, because they were searching together for her daughter. She felt like maybe... she wouldn't have to worry about making a friend this time.
Looking up, she saw the stallion returning and leaned back against the colt, whispering into his ear, "Me too," before the older male made it all the way back. When he was with them, she straightened up and nodded. "Thank you. I'm so glad she agreed." Doan did look somewhat relieved. "Lead the way."

Coridan smiled at the mare's words. Good, she liked Father, too. Perhaps she could be the companion for him his own mother could not. As the two adults headed for the beach, the colt trotted along after them.Nodding a bit, Illidan led the mare and his son to a cave on the beach. Strange hoof prints dotted the sand outside of it and movement could be heard within. "She's a bit wary of strangers, so bear with her, alright?"Slowly, a figure emerged from the entrance of the cave. It was a young mare kelpi, but this one was deformed and mutated, fins in place of a mane and a long snake-like tail trailing behind. She gazed at the three approaching Soquili and frowned, unsure now why she agreed to help Illidan's mare.

The closer they got to the cave, the further behind Illidan she began to fall, largely because she was glancing around expectantly. When she realized, she trotted lightly to catch up, her gaze flicked sideways, catching the movement of the larger male's shoulder as he walked. There was a small part of her that was nervous, in part thanks to the warning she had received. However, she always felt a kinship with other mares, if only because women had to stick together. She smiled to herself.
"Alright," she replied, finally letting her eyes wander up to the stallion's face instead of his side. "I'm not really sure what to say, but I'll do my best." As she looked back to the path, she noticed the finned horse coming out of the cave to meet them. For a moment she looked amazed at her appearance. This being the first water-dweller she had ever seen, she had no idea they didn't all look this way. Fins on a Soquili instead of a fish. What an interesting thing!
"Hello," she greeted softly, canting her head non-threateningly.

Darkspine looked at the small female. Well... Illidan certainly changed his taste after his fling, but who was she to judge. She came closer to the trio. "What is it you're wanting to know? Illidan said you had questions."
"Um.. where's her hair?" Coridan asked, peeking out from under his father's wings.
Illidan sighed softly, craning his neck about to look at the colt. "Don't be rude."

Before she could even begin to answer the question, Coridan spoke up and she couldn't help but smile a bit, looking back to him shortly. "Well..." she began, soon turning back around to the other, large mare. By this point in her life, she was no unused to most others being taller than her. "We're looking for someone, my daughter. I suggested we come to the water, but-" She looked a bit sheepish. "There isn't much to be seen here. Illidan said you knew this area well, so I was wondering if you had heard anything of a kirin called Hong Yen Ha or..." Well, it was probably unlikely that Darkspine had heard of her daughter specifically, but if she could lead the group in the right direction as far as finding settlements and more information, she would be grateful. "... if you knew of horse or human settlement with horses around here were we could talk to others and try to gather information."

The mutant kelpi listened, then shook her head. "The two-leggers don't come far into my territory, but there is a village just in the tree line to the south. You might find some answers there." She looked at Illidan. "I am sorry to not be of more help."
"It's alright," Illidan said, nodding. "We''ll go check out your lead and see what we find." He ushered Coridan to the entrance and waited for Doan.

She watched silently through the short bit of information, only nodding to show she understood. It wasn't until Illidan moved back towards the entrance of the cave that she spoke again, smiling up at the other mare with genuine gratitude. "Thank you, Darkspine. Now we have a new place to start looking." Doan nodded again, firmly this time. "Goodbye."
As she turned back towards the entrance to catch up with her companions, her wings fluttered slightly. And, despite herself, she looked back. But only once and only for a moment. When she reached the stallion and colt, she let out a soft breath that sounded almost like a gentle laugh. She looked relieved that they had indeed found a new place to look, even if there was nothing to say this village had anything to do with her daughter.

"Are we going to see two-leggers?" Coridan asked, walking alongside his father. He'd never seen these creatures before and was curious about them, despite his father's dislike of them.
Illidan frowned, looking straight head. "I hope not." He glanced back at Doan and sighed, expression softening. "Perhaps there will be horses there to ask the whereabouts of your daughter. Maybe they saw something."
