Well, Soren said nothing, but Neros absolutely gawked. He took no heed of how Charles had responded (or rather, he did, he just didn't take it to heart), and he simply stared towards their boy king. The welcoming cheers of the people, the image of the boy adorned with the crown and ceremonial praise, it all burned into his mind.

His voice just froze in his throat. Neros didn't think too hard on why he was so gripped by bitterness and anger—all he knew was that his throat was tight and his muscles rippled with a need to kill. And unlike the others, he did not fear imprisonment. Or death.

Face twisted with rage, Neros wreathed a black wind about himself and shot into the air with one thrust of his wings (smaller than before, as he had not fed quite nearly as often and had to depend even more on wind magic to carry him).

"Neros—" Soren warned, but voice would not stop him alone. Neros had already bolted for the doors and made his way inside, flapping furiously to gain in speed with the magic that was behind his flight. Soren stared after him, appearing hardly affected by the fit, and then followed after Neros with a hurried, "Excuse me," to Charles...and Heath.

Indoors had rarely ever been suitable places for flight, but Neros would scarce notice the inconvenience of walls and the lack of thermals with his reduced wingspan and wind magic. The surroundings blurred right past as he propelled his way into the ballroom. He ignored any shouts or words of protest, took no time to take in the reactions of those who saw him. With a few flaps of his wings, Neros hovered high in the ballroom for just a moment to seek his target. His eyes snapped immediately to James.

"Hey! Boy king!"

With a snarl, the creature dipped down and dove at James in a lethal dive, black wind carving the air before him—and if magic did not do it, he was sure his claws and teeth could.

He well knew someone would stop him.

He well knew someone might kill him.

But if he could not slay the boy king, he would at least make a statement.

[[I may not be able to post again today or for several days. If such should be the case, I'll leave this message here:

Feel free to kill or imprison Neros, or just chase him off. My intention was for him to scream to all the others how the whole coronation was a fraud and that none should be deceived by it, should he be killed or imprisoned (if you're killing him, assume that he melts into a black puddle that gradually creeps away/out of sight).

But this is just in case I am unable to post. Up to you to determine that—I'd say a maximum of six hours after James's or Rogvald's reaction. You could skip/ignore me a minute afterward, even.

...Oh, and Soren would probably just be in the crowd or something. Feel free to do whatever with him or ignore him.]]

Halloween of two years ago, Rhys could understand--that party, he'd been sticking his head in the lion's mouth, to use the proverb. After that, they'd had to brave monsters aplenty to get the next one months later, and then Siegell interrupted the one after that, and... point was, they were cursed. Everybody in the Host Club knew that.

Between this and the fact that Rhys was still up on the balcony right near the strange bird-man-Soren(?)-thingy, Neros' sudden attack was doomed from the start.

Rhys had to take a moment to stop his current magic--alas, for Neros would have been an easy target at that point in time--and put a hand on a Shine tome. It was fast once it was cast, and would work just fine. It might have been a bit tough to aim at Neros during a dive, but Rhys had faced Kilvas ravens and assorted Feral Ones before. The only difference here was that this one used a sort of black wind magic. Thus, Shine might not be the best response to a would-be assassin, but it would suffice. Once the moment of surprise was lost, Neros wouldn't get another chance.

The holy lights of Shine converged on Neros and struck him mid-dive. His resistance, as expected, was strong, but Rhys' magic was stronger; it threw the... thingy wildly off course, crashing into the ground, tumbling over and over again. But before the fallen would-be assassin could be seized, he melted into a black puddle, seeping out of sight in the commotion. That is to say, before anyone decided to be smart and mop him up. It'd be a chore and a half, putting oneself back together after being mixed with so much cleaning fluid!

(If this is too much bunnying or too soon, please let me know.)

Advisor Rogvald

Lend me your ear!
...Heed my words.
ogvald

xxxxx"Well said, dear Captain." Rogvald commented. He glanced at James and nodded. "And I think it wold be wise to keep the guild around, yes. After all, they've done... so much. What do you say, Your Highness?"

xxxxxBefore an answer could be made, a sudden shout rang out from above. Rogvald casually looked up to see the... whatever it was. He set down his glass of wine and looked at it curiously. When the creature dove, Rogvald made no reaction. The only movement he made was an unnoticed placement of his hand inside his cloak.

xxxxxThe sudden holy magic shined brightly, forcing the weak-eyed to look away. It did well in defeating the attacker. By appearances, nobody else could have done a thing. Rogvald looked up and saw that white robed man. Once again, the Host Club had shown their usefulness.

xxxxxDroplets began to fall from the strange being and a puddle began to form. The body began to vanish as the puddle grew. In the pain it must have been feeling, incoherent shouts were heard as it crept away. The attacker was a very strange creature, indeed.

xxxxxA silence overcame the ballroom after the soldiers chased after the melting fiend, only to find that it had vanished. Rogvald removed his hand from his cloak and began to slowly clap. One by one, the the citizens joined in until everyone was, even if they had no idea as to why they were. When Rogvald finished clapping, he set down his hands and a look of surprise latched upon his face. "My, my!" he exclaimed. "...You certainly have some excellent security measures, Captain Rath."

I advise you to listen. Not doing so could prove... deadly.

You have to look forward. Remember what you have here now.
Just think; if you hadn't come here, you wouldn't have met anyone here from
Elibe or anywhere else!"

{Amelia}
Amelia quietly sipped her water, keeping her ear on the conversation. Rath was acting quite friendly, actually. Or at least as friendly as he could be considering the circumstances. She allowed herself to watch Rogvald directly for a moment, then glanced around at the citizens, all excitedly chattering about their new king. All so happy...

She literally dropped her glass as she heard a shriek from high above. What the hell was going on now? Amelia started to move towards the young King, as if intending on pushing him out of the way with a baby in one arm, but had only gotten maybe two steps before a burst of bright light consumed James' attacker. Amelia stared at the puddle of liquid on the floor, growing even more surprised as it vanished. "O...kay..."

Amelia looked back over at the new king and his advisor after the clapping had died down. Aisen slapped his own hands together a few times, clearly pleased at this turn of events. What fun! Amelia paused, looked at the ground. "...Good thing that cup didn't break," she mumbled, awkwardly kneeling to pick it back up and set it on a table before approaching Rath, tapping him gently on the shoulder.

"Excuse me," she apologized to Rogvald and James. "I was just curious if you'd like me to strengthen security at all. Or I can just talk to my husband to ask him to continue keeping an eye out." She laughed sheepishly and Aisen simply stared at James' crown in curiosity. "Oh, and I'm Amelia. It's an honor to meet you."

Aisen had indeed been quite pleased to watch Neros and the spell collide. I mean, the leaves were all very pretty and good to look at, but they were just small potatoes to this! Whoever did that was beyond cool, he decided. Oh, Mommy had mentioned "See those leaves? That's Daddy doing that!". Did Daddy make the bird-thingy light show, too? Daddy was just great. <3 So was Mommy, of course, and the more useful of the two (at least, to Aisen she was, not as of yet sure why he left early in the day, was gone for eons, and then came back late in the day). But Daddy had his moments.

BUT THEN A NEW HORROR PRESENTED ITSELF.

He'd been scared at first of Roy's hair, but had later come to accept that hair was by and large harmless by tugging on Mommy's. It hadn't attacked him in a terrible rage (he was sure Mommy would save him if it did), so it most likely was NOT, in fact, out to eat peoples' heads.

But then he saw James' crown, and the first thought to go through his mind was What the heck is THAT!? It wasn't any hair he'd ever seen, that was for sure! In fact, he was certain it wasn't attached to James like nasty hair was. It looked heavier than his hair, though, and... did Aisen's eyes narrow in concentration? (Only this time, it wasn't to poop.) Was James' head-thing... some sort of weight, to keep the hair from flying off? That must be it, for why else would he wear such a thing? So this "hair" stuff, though non-violent, sometimes needed to be restrained to keep from flying away! FASCINATING...

Aisen relaxed and giggled at James, proud of his obviously superior baby intellect.

To Rhys, meanwhile, a wondrous thing happened. He was coming down the stairs to make sure everyone was alright when suddenly a bright light surrounded him. Anyone nearby would've heard the following:

"WAH! What the heck is this!? Get off! Get... waaaait a minute... is that what's going on? Oh HO..."

Several moments later, Rhys descended the last of the stairs. He looked a mix of embarrassed and pleased--he HAD been wearing a rather nice-looking black suit, but now found himself in billowing white robes. They did, however, look more immaculate and elaborate than they did whenever he was a Bishop.

It seemed there was now a Saint in their midst!

User Image Vaida had also been working to prepare for the coronation, but apparently was just too 'behind the scenes' to be noted. Who the hell else would have prepared the guards? Only she knew which ones had just returned from battle and thus should rest instead of being placed back on duty for the coronation. But maybe people didn't want to see her. She noticed how some people were looking at just a little bit differently ever since they found out it was her who brought the heir to Eyris. Yeah, like she knew who he was at the time! Even if she had, it wouldn't have changed anything.

The captains also needed to attend as guests, not that she could find them. The soldiers must have been looking out for them, because every time Vaida asked where either Needles, Arashe, Valter or anybody else was, her men gave her the run around. That was fine with her. If her captains didn't show up to the coronation, they would just have to cut their rest short with some intensive training before going back to battle. It would be their own fault. She had just returned, too, yet she had to go. She would accept no excuses from the them.

The coronation went off without a hitch, a relief for her and all the other soldiers. They just had to get through the remainder of the party. Once in the ballroom, Vaida began a patrol to make sure her men were doing what they were supposed to be doing. She was not technically on duty, as she was officially a guest, but still had her authority. Just because she wore a formal dress and didn't have her spear with her did not mean that the soldiers wouldn't face her fury if they were slacking off. Well, first she dropped off a meatball platter that the Host Club had denied her from making. They were fools! Vaida knew the people of Eyris would love them.

Vaida eventually finished her patrol and finished just in time for some crazy thing to fly into the air and dive at the new king. The Guard Commander's instincts took over and she went to grab her spear. She would blast whatever it was out of the air! ...Except she didn't have her spear with her. "Son of a b***h!"

Thankfully, Rhys had his game face on and blasted it for her. That could have been bad. Vaida made her way over to where the new king was right as Amelia spoke. "Don't worry, nothing like that will ever happen again. I'll make sure there's at least five guards around him at every moment!" She turned to the child and bowed her head slightly. "I would introduce myself, but as I recall, we've already met... your Highness."

Also, Rhys, good job. The bunnying was appropriate.

Just for some really quick clarification (because I'm not here long) Neros shouts stuff about the whole thing being a sham and tells everyone to pay great caution, just before he melts.

and Soren runs in, "soaks" up the black stuff, apologizes to "Your Highness" and runs off kthxbye

carry on))

While trying to eat her meal and listening to the conversation, mainly about distrusting the adviser, Isadora's mind was still occupied. She had to admit that it would take a while for the paladin to get used to the idea of serving someone who was younger than her. Sure, she did it once when she was serving under Eliwood, but the Pharean lord was nearly in his adulthood and mature. And although James was now their new king, the child was still young to rule.

I need to clear my head off. Isadora thought as she placed her fork down and stood up in her seat. Maybe she needed some fresh air to clear her mind. That could help calmed her down.

But before the paladin was about to leave, she heard a shriek. Turning her attention, she saw something was flying toward where the king and the adviser were. Dear Saint Elimine! Someone was trying to assassinate the king.

The paladin cursed for not having her weapon with her. How could she defend the royal if she had no weapon with her? Luckily, Rhys had taken care of the problem by casting his magic against the intruder. When the attacker crashed to the floor, Isadora and some of the soldiers ran to apprehend him.

But when she got near to the intruder, the attacker was starting to yell, accusing that the coronation was a sham and that they should be careful. Before the soldiers could capture the creature, the attacker began to melt and disappeared. The next thing the Dame Knight knew, she heard someone apologized before vanished.

Who was it? Was it someone she knew? Whoever that person was, it was unknown if the person would plan to attack again. If the attacker was unable to assassinate, there may be a chance the attacker would come back again.

However, the words of the attacker still remained in the paladin's mind. She knew quite well that the attacker had made an error about the coronation. It was no sham. However, he was right about being cautious. The paladin was still unease ever since she met the adviser and how the event was unfold to them. She needed to be cautious. She needed to be alert. There was no telling when would disaster strike.

Feeling bad that they had failed to capture the attacker, the Dame Knight approached to the king and the adviser. "My apologies, Your Highness. It seems that the attacker has gotten away before we can capture him. But fear not, Your Highness. I, Isadora the Dame Knight and acting Vice Captain of the guild, will make sure that we will capture whoever is after you."

James

Take me home, to the land of my fathers...

James stood before his new throne, inspecting it thoughtfully as Rogvald briefed him on the various crew members present. "Sort of makes you wonder how a group like this actually gets anything done." He turned around, smiling, and then looked up as Rath approached, offering a nod in return to the Captain's bow. Nice thing about being King: you don't have to bow to anybody. Which is good because your crown would fall off and that would look silly.

"My thanks, Captain, for all you have done in the service of my country," he said, smiling up at his most recent predecessor. "I look forward to working with you in the coming years. It--"

As soon as Neros dove, James lunged jerkily, out of the way, ducking behind his throne and grasping the hilt of his rapier. Once Rhys had successfully neutralized the threat, he slowly, carefully relaxed and almost seemed to have difficulty taking his hand off the hilt. He stepped forward slowly, looking a bit bewildered at his own reaction, but shook his head. "Rogvald, please see that he receives a commendation. Some sort of medal or something. And money. Or something. Maybe I'll make him a Knight Bachelor." He brushed off his coat, then adjusted his cloak and sat on his throne to relax.

"Ah," he said at the blonde General's approach. "Ah, Amelia. It's a pleasure." He turned his hand upward to acknowledge her, and was pleasantly surprised to find a waiter placing a flute of wine in his hand, standing beside him with a tray of hors d'oeuvres. "Thank you," he murmured, sipping from the tall glass. Young though he was, Rogvald had been culturing him carefully, including teaching him to enjoy the strong flavors of rich foods and alcoholic drinks. His size didn't afford him much tolerance, but he could handle one small glass.

He stood, however, when Vaida arrived-- his savior deserved that much respect, and he smiled brightly at her promise. "You know, I've always wanted a personal guard team. Commander Vaida, you have my thanks and my favor for rescuing me and my advisor. I'll see to it all your needs are met, personally if it must be so."

He looked up at Isadora thoughtfully, cocking his head to the side as she addressed him. "I see. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter." He turned a bit, tugging his cape aside, and sat down on his throne once more, then took a tiny quiche from the waiter's tray and popped it into his mouth.

"... Oh. Oh, that is delicious. Is that-- roe? Roe in quiche. That is surprisingly good, Rogvald, try one," he said, chewing and swallowing mid-sentence.

Rath
------------

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Rath's head slowly turned as the voice called out for the new king. He saw the assassin dive and instantly went for the hilt of his ceremonial blade. His body turned as if to block the young king with his own body if he had to. The sword had only gotten halfway out of the hilt before the assassin had been purged with magic considered to be holy. Rath looked and saw Rhys, then sighed lightly.

As the melting man, if it could be called that, vanished into the crowd, Rath caught sight of none other than Soren. His eyes flared with rage as he stared at the researcher. It was a look not many had seen him give and it was sure to be unnerving. Rath could not be sure how Soren would take that look, but it had many valid interpretations.

Why are you here...?

Why you did bring him here?

Why did you leave Fefga Manor?!

You're supposed to be conducting research!!

The praise of Rogvald and Amelia's tap on the shoulder went unnoticed, as did the approach of Vaida and Isadora. He kept Soren under his wrathful stare until the sage could no longer be seen. He blinked then jerked back towards the conversation, unaware of the words that had been spoken. So many people having suddenly come up to the king made Rath feel uncomfortable and an urge to depart overcame him.

"....If... you'll excuse me..." he began. "I think I'll go and check on Nino..." Not wanting to be rude, Rath bowed to the king, then turned to leave.

xxxxxRogvald turned to the large seat next to him and blinked at seeing that James was not there. As the boy sat back down, Rogvald eyed him, curious about his movement just then. He had not even seen the boy get up. It was a little odd. But it was no big matter. James was safe, and was already speaking praise for the holy man's actions. Rogvald nodded. "Certainly, sire, if you so wish it. But it seems the gods have already found favor in his actions by rewarding him with imbued power. Such robes suggest they see him as a Saint." He went back to his food as some guild lackeys came up to greet their new king.

xxxxxAs they spoke, not a word came from Rogvald's mouth. He didn't even acknowledge them, really, but he had no obligations to do so. James had already taken it upon himself to speak to them. He had been trained well, after all. Only when presented with the quiche did the advisor speak. "Why, I think I will..." Rogvald took one and looked at it unenthusiastically. He casually discarded it on his plate as the guild captain excused himself.

xxxxxUpon hearing the man's departing words, Rogvald perked up. An idea entered his head. "Ah... yes, that is a splendid idea!" he exclaimed. "We really should go and see Lady Nino, King James. I'm sure she hasn't heard a word about all of this. It would only be proper for you to go and meet her so that she is aware of recent events." He scooted back his seat and hobbled over to the other side of James' throne. "Do not worry, we can come back to the celebration. If the dear captain here is going to check on her, he can conveniently lead us to her quarters, now. Come, come, it shan't take long..."

I advise you to listen. Not doing so could prove... deadly.

The acting Captain stopped in his tracks and turned around as the king's advisor suggested coming along. "...No!" His eyes expressed surprise, but he quickly changed that. He glanced at everyone, realizing his sudden interjection was at the very least strange. "...That is... she is ill. Only I and a few attendants are to see her. That is her request..."

He turned to leave again, having given his explanation for why they must stay. It was imperative that nobody else entered Nino's room. He would not let it happen.

Isadora placed her hand over her heart as she took a bow to King James. She had to admit that the boy had manner. At least that was something positive that the adviser did. However, the paladin still distrusted the old git.

There was something about that man she couldn't figure out. She could sense what his movement was such as wanting the boy to be king right away instead of after the war. Unfortunately, she couldn't tell what were his goals. She felt that she was playing a game of chess with him and the adviser was two steps ahead of her with each move she made. The paladin needed to investigate this man and fast. And to do so, she needed to inform Rath.

But before she could walk to the nomad and speak, Isadora heard Rath excused himself, wanting to check on Nino. What? Needed to check on Nino so soon? Didn't Rath check on her before going to the party? The paladin wasn't sure why Nino's health was important in this time. However, hearing from Rath's tone, he sounded uncomfortable. Was the nomad still uncomfortable about the position of power shifting? It could be. After all, it was shocking news to everyone about the sudden news.

She watched Rath took a bow before the king and departed, leaving herself and the others behind. Should she follow him? The Dame Knight still had some discussions she wanted to make with him. However, she didn't want to be rude to the king just to excuse herself to follow Rath.

Unsure what to do, the paladin let out a soft sigh. Seriously, that nomad needed to learn when to lend some of his burdens to the people he cared so he could ease himself. And somehow, it seemed that she too needed.

Before the paladin could interact, she suddenly heard the adviser informing the king about meeting Nino. This made the Dame Knight curious. Odd... Weren't they inform that Nino was sick? Surely, someone must had inform them about the captain's absent. After all, why would Rath be the acting captain right now?

Suddenly, she heard Rath gave a sharp expression toward the adviser. Isadora's body tensed up as she turned to look at the nomad in surprise. Was Rath shouting at Rogvald? She would understand if he had distrust on the old man. But to shout at the old git in public and in front of the king? Well, that was surprising. What made him shout like that?

It was then that Rath gave an explanation about why he refused them to come with him. Although the nomad had given his reasons about Nino's sickness, the paladin knew that it was rude of him to express his reply. Seriously, he could show his dislikes to the guild about the adviser and the current situations, but not to do so in public for people to see. This would made him looked like he was trying to assassinate the king. Honestly, she thought that Rath was careful about his behavior. Never would she thought he would lose his compose in this time.

Turning around and feeling the need to release her stress, Isadora let out a small smile to Amelia and Aisen. "Congratulation on your newborn child. I hope your child didn't cause you any trouble tonight."

She then lifted her hand to wiggle her finger at Aisen, trying to make him smile or laugh. Well, babies were cute. It would be hard to resist their cuteness. "So, have you decided who will be his godparents?"

xxxxxAnother surprised blink escaped Rogvald as the captain suddenly turned and practically shouted at him. It was simply astounding. The nerve he had to think he could do that... The explanation was weak, as well. Rogvald narrowed his eyes at the man. Something was off. He would act upon his whim. "Do not... be ridiculous, sir." he started. "Sick or no, we will have to go and see her, eventually. I will not have news of this be delivered by anybody but ourselves. It would just be uncouth for such a thing to occur! Do you expect us to wait for her to get well and think that she can go back to ruling this country, only to have this thrown at her? That would be humiliating! No, no, we will either go now or later and since you go now, we shall accompany you!"

xxxxxRogvald helped James to his feet and away from his throne. "Now if you be so kind as to carry on, we shall get this over with..." He turned to the others. "Unless you decline, in which case I'm sure one of these fine ladies would be glad to show us to the bedridden captain's quarters." He presented to them the best kindly smile he could give, which to them would probably seem twisted and inappropriate. People often judged him by his looks, though. He had learned to ignore the more rude of reactions.

I advise you to listen. Not doing so could prove... deadly.
