"No need," Shiro replied with a shrug. "Or rather, it wouldn't mean anything. There are very few people at all who could get their hands on this sort of stuff."
Ura looked over at him. "You hid your suppliers, didn't you?"
Shiro looked back at him evenly. "You do realize there's a reason you were also required to sign the confidentiality agreements," he said pointedly.
Ura rolled his eyes. "She's not stupid. The moment she lays eyes on the stuff, she's going to know where it comes from."

Kali didn't even bother to mention once she knew how it worked it was only the process of recreating it. She liked a challenge, and she had to know how they worked anyways in order to be able to use them. True creating them probably would cost a normal person an arm, leg and maybe their soul.
"Besides that fact, Shiro what you are suggesting is not a tablet, you are suggesting a flat touch interface computer. Tablets, despite their ability are not computers, or notebooks or netbooks or anything of the sort, that's why there isn't one that suits you, because they are not any of those things. What you are suggesting to create is a in a sense a laptop to lack a better term with all the advantages of a tablet. A technology which will naturally be the next form of computers but one that hasn't been realized yet. The first person who make a technology like that..."
Well, among clan members money was never an issue. They all did well in their certain fields and Kali lived in the main house because she was too absent minded in daily living at times to live on her own, but she knew whoever could come up with that technology first would be quite wealthy.
"The only thing that can top that is the realization of the so called holo computers."

"I've been asked to look into those," Shiro said dully. "At any rate, I'm just asking for what I want - you're the one actually making it. I'm just the programmer and end user. If you want to patent it, go ahead - but you'll have to find a way to make the parts yourself. They simply aren't available, even to the biggest computer companies."
If they were, everyone would have them - the computer companies would be rich beyond rich.

"That's fine..." Kali smiled, "I'll figure something out, even though knowing me I'll probably get distracted by some other piece of work. Like solar power trees or something just as whimsical."
She had been leaning more towards that as of late, she wasn't quite sure why but she was sure it was being with her mother for long periods of time or something like that.

"Geothermal's more efficient," Shiro remarked distractedly, picking up his sandwich once again, "but a pain in the rear. And no good for mobile units."
Suddenly he blinked at her. "Hey, we never discussed what you're going to get out of this deal," he remarked.

This was true, but how often was it Kali got a job where the creator knew exactly what he wanted? Of course, it was to the point where sometimes he forgot to mention exactly what items he would be using but still.
"Ah... true," Kali replied, "Too involved in the making of the device first."
She was just like that, after all how often was it that her client was going to provide the parts? Kali herself was quite well off, she didn't live in a home of her own and she didn't use anywhere near the amount of electricity that Shiro did.
"I do need help with a personal project but one I think you'll find advantageous anyways."

Shiro leaned forward. "Oh?" he asked, his tail twitching slightly. He was curious now. "Something you need help with?"
His eyes glowed softly in the cafe's bright interior. He was always interested in new things, and Kali especially had the ability to make things interesting.

"Since most people joke that we're like a small town now, we might as well get our own power grid..."
Kali set aside her plate which was now empty and took up her tablet again to gain access to one of her inventions. Before showing it Shiro, it was a mixture of mechanical and chemical engineering or so it seemed. It had formulas and sketches of different ivy plants, as well as a layout of the current grounds.
"At the moment we are dependent on our energy provider, which I suppose is alright seeing as most of us work and therefore pay for our own bills, but since we're dependent it also means that any time their fuses blow we get affected. Now, I know you know this because I know, you have your own back up generators but still..."
She cleared her throat and used the pen to point to the different aspects. This, is a chemical composition influenced by the method in which leaves capture and convert sunlight into energy. A method I believe could be used similar to that of solar panels. Each house would have these ivy like devices along the wall and roof to capture sunlight, and if we finally put in lamp posts they would more than enough act for the lamp posts own energy source. Any excess energy would go back into the grid and provide for whoever else might need it."
She paused and then waggled her pen at Shiro.
"Except you, you need full solar panels on your roof, the amount of energy the ivy would gather would be minuscule compared to what you use and end up just being decoration to keep everything the same. Same could be said for the new green house that Yukiko wants to be built... don't get me started on that. Growing tropical plants, trees no less is going to be a pain to keep in proper growing conditions. Otherwise for the majority of the family, this will be more than enough. It's just the materials to create something functional and yet natural. Well... as natural as it can get for having something mechanical."
After all while the grounds might look like a little town it was a natural looking little town because of the waterways and trees and other things for the pets to roam free.

Shiro nodded. She was right, on the whole they did use far more energy than they could rely on the power company for. Despite his backup generators, he had experienced frequent brownouts - and the generators required fuel, and since he didn't have a vehicle of his own, it was a pain to get it.
"I'd been giving thought to getting solar panels to put on the roof of the library," he agreed, "but I really like your idea for the rest of the grounds. The materials ... well, you have my supplies page now, list anything you'll need, make a separate list of things that might not be on the page. I'll get you what I can, which ... will be most of it, at the very least, I'm sure."
He nodded. "At any rate. You build this for me, and when I order the parts for it, I'll get you whatever you need for your project as well."

Kali nodded that would be perfect for her idea, "Perfect, that would work very well."
Then after she was done she could start working on her new pet project, which would involve a lot of digging up and construction and rewiring but the long term would be worth it.

It had been a while since their food had been brought to them, and now Amaya returned, ready to see if they needed any dessert. The cafe had calmed down somewhat in the past hour or so, and she wasn't nearly as rushed anymore.
"How was everything today?" she asked them with a warm smile as she appeared at the end of their table. "Everything satisfactory? Can I get you any dessert?"

Ura looked up at the waitress. "I thought it was good," he nodded. "Can we have two coffees? Black?"
Shiro glanced up as well. "Yes, it was delicious," he smiled. "It all tasted very fresh."
He could tell - he hated limp lettuce and smelly ham. No, it had been quite good.

Kali smiled and nodded in agreement to what the others said.
"It was a lovely lunch, and may I have tea as well? Ah..." she thought about it, "Earl Grey please."
Kali actually preferred of a lot of the more Western tea mixtures.

"Two black coffees, one Earl Grey," Amaya repeated with a nod. "I'll be right back."
She picked up their dirty dishes and headed back towards the kitchen with them.

Shiro grinned as the waitress headed off again. "Good service," he quipped; and then he turned back to the subject at hand.
"Once the parts are ordered, they should be here within a few days," he told Kali. "I don't use the regular post, I have special delivery, so there won't be any wait worth speaking of."
