What I have seen work is using:

The "Earth Day" stage (you can find it under the Games Tab) gives you a leafy crown for Earth Day.

Today is "May the 4th" be with you day, and Gaia is giving out a couple items via trigger words.

Post "Darth Vader" in the forums to be assigned an Imperial designation and get Vader's chestplate.

Post any of several Jedi-themed words to be assigned a Rebel designation and get the chestplate.

OR

Post the word "Loki" in the forums to be assigned the Trickster designation and get Tony's chest fob.

Posting the name of any of the movie Avengers will get you the designation Revenger and the chest fob as well.
