Before the answer could come, Abigail spoke up. He glanced away from S’in, wishing he was more relieved for the brief pause. He patted Lerath’s neck to keep his attention and nodded toward the weyrwoman.

---

K’la nodded, seemingly pleased to have found someone to play along with her courtly game. She was about to respond to his query about dresses again, but she missed the chance for another subtle quip about the new goldrider that had made such a rudedisplay the other day when Abigail spoke up. “Oh, this first,” she said, flourishing a hand to pause the conversation and turn towards the weyrwoman. She rather hoped this wouldn’t contain anymore warnings towards her and her Benden fellows. She was in a perfectly cordial mood and did not feel like being snubbed once again, especially since no one else had gotten killed.

Busy feeding Scarath bits of flavored meat, as per requested, he was rather surprised to find the Weyrwoman calling for attention. Ah, what do I know of weyr proceedings? Taking bowl, meat, and dragon to the side S'kor finds a seat where he can feed Scarath and watch the Weyrwoman. 'Oh, I like that flavor Mine.'

Optheli was half way to joining a group when the Weyrwoman called for attention. Ooooh! What could it be? She plopped herself into the nearest open seat. Feeling Dynith snuggled up to her leg, her hand pets the soft hide.

N'ymi had entered the dining area and promptly avoided anyone who had Impressed along with her. She would have plenty of time to deal with them and their dragons when it came time for lessons. As for now, she had grabbed a bowl of her favorite stew and warm bread and was dunking it with great enthusiasm. At least, she would be a little bit better fed from now on. Not that her frame needed to add any meat to her bones. She was close enough to hear the verbal fight, the play of words between the Benden Bronze rider and a lot of new Trine Riders.

Personally, she thought it was best to leave bad fruit to rot.

Daroth on the other hand, was wiggling from head to claw to get over and see some of the smaller dragons. Never mind that the crimsons and the silver would be bigger than him some day, they were small now and that was all that mattered. He had wanted to bring Camm along but the little green flit had found a group of others flits and they were off gossiping.

Nasuymi. Can be please go to the others?

"N'ymi. An' nah. Lookee here. Abigail is fixin' ta talk." And she shushed her dragon. She noticed the boy, Jalarant who had washed dishes with her not too long ago. A familiar face was better than no face and she gave a half hearted wave for him to come over. If anything, he would amuse Daroth. "Hey! Ov'r here you kin sit!"

The Green was more hyper than he had originally given her credit for. He could swear that he felt Tereth laughing across their mental link, even though the dragon never had a true laugh. "We shall see, Sleeth," he answered the dragonet in an attempt to mollify her. He had to chuckle at Akaya's apology though. "No need to apologize. No harm done." The dragonet was barely a day old after all. She still had much to learn.

Before the conversation could continue any further, however, Abigail had called everyone to order and requested that they find their seats. Time for the speech, the Brownrider thought to himself with a faint smile as he took a seat like the rest. He still remembered quite well the talk they had received back as Jr. Weyrlings. Five Turns wasn't really all that long ago after all.

~~~~~~~
G'brel paused in her conversation with F'ren when Abigail called them all to attention. Finally, speech and meal time, she thought to herself, walking off to find a seat with Lifth. She had never been privy to one of these herself, but she had heard other Weyrlings talk about their restrictions and such in the past. Should be interesting to say the least.
Jalarant had caught a flash of bright blue out of the corner of his eye, and had turned in time to catch Nayumi's wave. Erm. Well! Something to do at this shindig; that was surprising!
He made his way over, jostling a few people and apologizing faintly. He gave both her and her rather bright dragonet a shy smile. "Are you still going by Nayumi? I saw you Impressed, congratulations to you and yours."
Shards, she'd Impressed a pretty one!
"Pends n'who you ask. Daroth, this big lug 'ere likes m'name the way t'is. I like N'ymi. S'whatever I guess. An' thanks. T'is like my thir' or fourth time Standin'. W'all get lucky or we don't. Just happy them Benden folk behavin'." N'ymi told him frankly. One of the few people she didn't have to cozy up to or talk prettily with, he seemed to accept her frank nature.
Daroth stared up at him with bright whirling green eyes. The blue was not too thrilled with another male coming up and speaking to His. Surely, he was trying to talk to her and gain something by it. He looked at Jalarant long and hard before laying his head down.
"Don't mind 'im. He's in a snit cuz I won't let him go mess wi' the smaller dragons. But I thin' the Weyrwoman is gonna be talkin' to us. Daroth. Be nice. This here is one of the few nice guys 'round."
Daroth crooned and kept his eyes on the crimsons and greens, hoping to catch their attention.
Oh, what was that? R'vik craned around B'tar, then quietly excused himself. So that was where the drinks were! He took a goblet at random with an unfamiliar drink, then turned to return to B'tar and continue their conversation. Or that was the plan, at least.
He felt an initial rise of panic. Seats? She wanted them to sit down? He didn't know if the Benden riders had their own sanctioned seats or not, and to pick a seat at random... R'vik looked around. Picking a seat at random would be a viable option, and usually a perfectly normal and accepted one. Picking a seat at random in a place that would rather see you hung upside down on a dragon during a Flight, however, was not a wise course of action to take.
Breathe, Xalth commanded. I will not let that happen. The blue raised his head, looking in the direction of where the Feast was being held. No, no, easy Xalth, R'vik said, taking his dragon's advice by means of a deep breath.
The bluerider made his way towards the exit, picking a seat on the end that had a few empty seats near him. There. He thought, starting to shrug off his jacket before thinking better of it, Good seat, plus the occasional breeze. The exit's not bad either, though it doesn't exactly give me a good place to watch everyone... Eh. Breeze is better. Shards, Trine is hot! How can people drink klah?!
F'ren decided that t would be best if he just kept quiet and not answer G'brel when the Weyrwoman called everyone to attention, I guess that's our cue to find a seat he thought to Toulonth, grabbing a large bowl of meat for her along the way, trying to sit close to someone he knew, as well as being far away from any Benden riders. Mine i'm not that hungry moaned Toulonth alright Toulonth, eat what you will after our Weryleaders have spoken then we'll leave and get you settled after a while ok? So they both sat and waited for what Abigail was about to say, when he noticed that there was one person there that he didn't think should be, one of the candidates that hadn't Impressed, i'm sure someone will deal with him if he shouldn't be here Mine
Kyros - or K'ro, as he was fairly sure he was going to call himself - had been hanging back from the action for some time now. He was quite keen to go and mingle with the other new weyrlings, find out the kinds of people he would be dealing with - but Viridith wasn't ready yet, and so they lingered.
"We'll go soon," the hatchling assured her partner as she felt the desire to move wash over him, "I want to watch just a little longer..." Poised like a feline ready to spring, and yet still as a stone the green studied her surroundings carefully. Lots of people. The crowding didn't bother her, she just wanted to take in the over all picture from a distance before they moved in. When the Weyrwoman began speaking, she gave a soft hiss - not intended as an insult or a threat, it was a thoughtful noise - and prowled forward. "Many of my siblings as clumsy," she observed as they neared the table, "is that why I make people uneasy?"
"Perh-" "...Perhaps," K'ro replied. "It was certainly your stalk that worried me before you spoke to me. I thought you were hunting me."
"Foolish, Mine," Viridith looked up at her rider with gleaming blue eyes, "you are Mine. I wouldn't hurt you."
"Well I know that now," K'ro smiled and reached down to scritch his dragon's head; strange how he suddenly knew that she meant him no harm, how it had come in such a flash... That was being a rider, he supposed... Ah-ha, there was Ofie with her little crimson. Smiling a little wider as he remembered her flinging herself onto the sands, the former fishercrafter moved towards the former tanner; it would be nice to sit with somebody he knew... Well, knew better than he knew the others. Knew very well indeed in some ways.
"...Do not forget that you are Mine," Viridith shot her rider a dark look with briefly dull orange eyes. "I do not understand what it is you think of when you see her, but remember that you are Mine, not hers."
"I know," K'ro soothed the green with another touch, "you don't need to worry, she isn't competition. I like her, but that's as far as it goes."
"...Good. We may speak with them, then." So long as he remembered that, and the girl knew it too. Hers. Nobody else's. "Greetings Serinth," she said to the crimson, coming to a halt and falling back into that posture that suggested she was thinking about making somebody nearby into a snack.
"Hi," K'ro stopped beside his dragon and smiled at the red-headed rider, "congratulations on Impressing, must have come as a bit of a surprise."
B'tar chuckled slightly at the memory of the unfortunate 'beverage' two turns back, summoning the collection of peoples interesting expressions up from memory.
"Oh yes that, that was something else. I'm sure they must have something other than Klah." Wine, juice... cooler or at least room temperature drinks must be available somewhere, regardless of how popular Klah was...
He started to look around, figuring that something must be recognizable as such, when the Weyrwoman spoke up, encouraging them to find a seat.
Like R'vik, he was less than sure if there was someplace specific he was supposed to be sitting, so he used the blue rider as his personal 'guide' following the break he made in the milling bodies to find an out of the way seat near by, and trying to look like he was actually comfortable, though his wide eyed stare around did far more than his crossed legs to say how comfortable he actually was, and how uncertain he was that he wasn't in the midst of making a major faux pas.
He really didn't want to get told to go shovel runner-beast stables or something, not if there was a chance he could go annoy seek out any Trine Star-smiths, if they had them here.
He'd been too busy to find out, but wondered if they might have different charts than the ones in Benden, and how they would compare to create more accurate predictions.
Of course there were other things to do first, like listen to speeches about the new Candidates, though he expected this to be... fairly routine. Well; Mostly. Generally speaking, routine speeches probably didn't have to include for the loss of a dragon and their rider...and he tried to mask a grimace at the thought.
S'in started to answer V'al, but cut himself off at the first sound when Abagail's voice cut through the croud, beckoning everyone to their seats, and he gave the other boy a quick polite nod before he looked to follow orders and find someplace to sit.
He had an interesting belt, you liked it.
I did, but it's just as well, blue's not my favorite color to wear.
Brown is better. Linnaeth chirped, sounding amused and teasing.
He considered that it was to some degree a small loss that V'al was unlikely to fully master his leather working skills now, or be officially moved past apprentice, though a clearly talented one, but clearly the dragons felt he'd been needed elsewhere.
...It certainly didn't hurt S'in's feelings either that the boys posturing and annoyed attitude about being asked to stand had come to this either. It really wasn't like they'd trussed him up and thrown him on dragon back.
Why would someone need to? Why would they not want to find their other half?
Some people are too proud to admit that they might be missing something. He knows better now I think. S'in shrugged slightly as he found a seat, and Linnaeth immediately sat on his foot, an hot weight on his toes. The Weyrwoman has something to say, let's listen.
D'lin might have considered being polite and saying something else to spark conversation between himself and the other newly impressed but he was saved from this need with the Weyrwomen's call for attention. Casting an apologetic smile - because it would be rude not to - D'lin allowed Plexith to butt him towards an empty seat.
-------------------------------------------------
Ca'mil likewise found herself a comfortable seat near the back of the assembly - where she could hear the speech and watch the new weyrlings in peace. She had been somewhat surprised to note the Benden riders present, but supposed it might have been a bit to rude not to invite them - the healers weren't here and that was something at least.
Perhaps it was a good thing that Kelvari was feeling a little nervous about being social (for once) and had arrived a little later then everyone else. After the great slasher hullabaloo Sakath had wrecked during the Hatching, Kel was not entirely sure what kind of reception they would receive at the Feast, and she wasn't in a rush to find out.
Sakath, of course, couldn't figure out what the problem was and had been a constant buzz in the back of her mind for some time now.
We're late. We shouldn't be late. What if I am ignored? What if YOU are ignored? I won't like it if you get ignored Kelvari, I really won't like that at all-
Though the jabbering was purely mental, the new rider nevertheless clamped one hand around the hatchling's jaws and shushed him as they entered the Feast. Impression seemed like a faraway dream now, especially after the night before when she had spent the better part of her time caring for the little silver through a bit of a stomach ache. Sakath, blessedly, didn't appear to remember it. After they had greeted the Weyrleaders and Kel had received her new knots (or, to be truthful, her first rank knots ever!) She began to feel a bit of drool running down her arm where Sakath had, apparently, caught sight of the butchers.
"Sakath! This is the best tunic I own!" She said, frowning down at the hatchling in her arms after she had walked away from the 'Leaders in order to find a place to sit. The silver only looked up at her imploringly, his bright eyes whirling a ridiculous blue-green that he had learned she couldn't refuse. Heaving a sigh, she glanced around to make sure she wasn't going to be missing anything, and set Sakath down on the bench with a stern order to Not Move while she went to grab him some meat.
Unfortunately, just as she was heaping fillets on a plate, the Weyrleaders had seated themselves and asked for silence. Well accustomed to listening to orders from the top brass, Kel hurriedly seated herself, shifting to the end so she could keep and eye on Sakath a few tables away. The silver wasn't convinced he was starving, so she wasn't in any danger of him creeling, but he was a stubborn sort, and was quickly recovering some of the lost energy he had spent on Hatching day tearing into the other candidates. Irritably, he shifted his weight and looked around for a way to get off the bench.
Just wait a moment Sakath, they'll be done soon. She tried, hoping she wasn't as bad at this whole non-verbal communication as she thought she was. But either the silver hadn't heard, or was pretending not to, because his eyes had started to whirl red and he was definitely glaring at her. The bench was too tall for him to climb down, and he wasn't hungry enough to tolerate falling off of it in order to get to Kelvari.
Yet.
Abigail shook her head in amusement as everyone, including the Benden riders, promptly found a seat - any seat - and quieted. The ability to command an audience was a little intoxicating and it felt to remember she did indeed have final say here. Hadn't really felt like that the past few days.
Clearing her throat, she stepped up front and center and was soon joined by the Weyrleader. "Welcome! First of all I would like to congratulate the many healthy Weyrlings that have joined our ranks. I expect much from you and Yours! These first few months will likely be the hardest you've ever experienced but do not let that daunt you. You are all Dragonriders now, protectors of Pern, and as you pairs grow, you will come to realize what an honour that can be. It's hard to explain now, when you're so fresh faced and full of potential, but the future truly does ride on your shoulders."
She smiled at them, meeting the gazes of those assembled as she spoke, "Safety is paramount, I do not think I need to reiterate what happens when a rider looses a dragon or a dragon looses a rider, yes? Take that as your lesson and never forget it. Each of you is precious, and none of you can ever be replaced. To that end, there a few ground rules you must observe to keep yourself and your lifemate safe. First: No sexual encounters until further notice. While some of you may be of the age to enjoy such activities, but the emotions and sensations raised during sex can and will confuse your dragon. A young, confused dragon may be lost to Between and that can not be chanced. Second: No alcoholic beverages until further notice. Addling your brain with wine and other drinks will also addle the brain of your dragon and, again, you risk the chance of causing them to go Between. I don't think any of you wants to risk the life of your Lifemate, mn?"
The Weyrwoman paused, letting that information sink in. It was two of the most important rules these young weyrlings would have to follow. After a moment or two, she began again, "Now that we've said the important bits, I'd like to introduce myself and my Weyrleader. I am Weyrwoman Abigail. Before this, I have not had much chance to speak to any of you and so this feast is an opportunity for you to ask questions if you have any." She glanced aside as she finished and the Weyrleader stepped forward.
"I am N'rak, rider of Bronze Havenith, and I am the Weyrleader." His tone was dry, formal and he stood stiffly. Apparently public speaking was something left to the Weyrwoman most times. He'd much rather be off briefing his Wingleaders. "I will also be available for conversation throughout the feast if any of the new riders have questions. Additionally, your barracks assignments will posted outside the Weyrling Barracks when you leave tonight, and they will be your living quarters until you graduate. Classes begin tomorrow, a candlemark after sunrise, do not be late." He nodded and stepped back.
"I believe that is everything for now. Please enjoy your meal!" She gestured at the loaded tables and turned away, seating herself beside N'rak.
The Feast had officially begun.
G'brel watched and listened with unwavering attention as the Weyrwoman started her speech. Inwardly she swelled with pride as Abigail spoke of their duty to Pern and the responsibility that now rested on their shoulders. yes, the next few months would be very difficult, but it would be more than worth it in the end. She was positive of this.
I will help you with this, Lifth told his, nudging her leg with his nose. We have much to learn.
Yes. Yes we do, the teen agreed, continuing to listen as the Weyrwoman moved onto the main rules. She had to bite back a smirk at the first. Hehe, seems that 'F'ren' is going to have to temper back his flirting for a while. That'll be fun. She was almost tempted to look back at her friend and see his reaction to this news, but decided instead to keep her attention on the Weyrwoman. No alcohol won't be hard. Both of them are easy and basic enough rules to follow.
I don't believe I would become that confused, the Blue remarked, mildly offended by the insinuation that he might be lost Between so easily. I am more sensible than that.
G'brel was amused by her dragon's response, and glanced down at him with a smile as she stroked him on the eye ridges. I know you wouldn't. You are special. Still, it's just a safety precaution. No big deal. Whether she believed he would or not though, she wasn't about to take any chances.
The Weyrleader is speaking.
The teen turned her attention back to the front in time to hear the announcement about their barrack assignments and tomorrow's class. Sounds like we're gunna hit the ground running then. Should be fun.
Mine?
Yes?
I am hungry now.
She had to laugh. Took my earlier instructions too seriously, eh? "Alright, let's get you some food then." Back to the meat table. She probably should have grabbed a bowl while they were there the first time.
