"Awesome," she said to Keahi, in answer to his agreeing to spar with him. "I'm not too good yet, but without someone to practice with, I'm not likely to get any better." She looked at him curiously, "How many sisters do you have?"

"I'm sure there are a few more running around," Padma responded to Sarah. "We can't possibly be the only girls. They're probably on one of the other boats." She grinned. "So, you bring any family along? I know Keahi here did, and I'm not too sure about Faylin, and me, well, I didn't bring anyone."

She shrugged, attempting to make what she said nonchalant. it mostly worked.

"Oh, I forgot to ask your name. I'm Padma."

Keahi chuckled. "Well, I've been sparring some with a few of my brothers, but new opponents are always good." At the question of how many sisters, the boy sighed. "Six. And four brothers." It was never a dull moment with his family. He started to ask about her family when she mentioned to Sarah that she hadn't brought anyone. Oh.

It was bad enough leaving behind the only place he'd known. But to leave behind the people you knew as well? Your family... close friends. Keahi had never really had the latter, but he had his family. He couldn't have imagined for even a moment leaving them behind to die.

“Yeah, there’s gotta be at least one or two more.” Sarah said with a sigh. Hearing what else Padma said, she looked down as to avoid contact. “Ah, just my parents.” She paused before speaking again. “I’m sorry about that.” She added about the four-armed girl not bringing her family.
It was hell to have crappy parents, but it’s still someone who at least tries to care about their kids. Even so, Sarah gave a morbid thought to wonder if the girl had left her parents out of pure malice, or if they didn’t want to go. Since the girl seemed very nice, the cat godling guessed it was the latter.

“Oh! I-I’m Sarah. Nice to meet you both—Padma, Keahi.” She repeated the names more to herself than to them, just to make sure she remembered them.

Rafael was tired, very tired. One would think the end of days would make him a little emotional, but truth be told, he just felt drained. The calm before the storm, perhaps.

A substance like water lapped at the sides of the ship and he found himself paying more attention to that sound than anything else. The long oars below worked in time to some unheard tempo, manned by a force unknown, to churn the interpretation of the sea. Up, down, up, down. There was a commotion going on somewhere further down the ship, a gaggle of god's toys clamoring for companionship. It was just another white noise to him, something he couldn't focus on long even if he wished to. The slosh of the waves offered him solace somehow, and yet, his limbs were very heavy.

"Ay, Raffi..."

Bright blue eyes flickered over to the small tousle of dark hair at his side, all he could really see of a child whose small hand wound itself into the bottom of his shirt. For one horrifying moment, it was as if a stranger had approached him, hailing him by a name he was once familiar with, and he tensed.

"Elia," The name came free hesitantly before he began to feel grounded once more, pulled back into reality like a man from the ocean. "Pequeño, didn't I tell you to wait in our cabin? Vamos! Don't stand by the side!"

He felt as if his bones were creaking as he stepped back from the ship's railing, turning toward his brother and hitching his brows in what he had once thought of as stern. The child, however, stumbled back, dark eyes wide beneath the mop of his hair in a show of true terror. It had been hard enough to convince his siblings that behind the facade of blue skin was the older brother they had all respected and adored. Now he was scaring the youngest with the threat of sharp fangs and claws, the smallest motion like the lurch of a predator. Rafael saw his brother's horror and was immediately sorry, features slackening and his shoulders dropping some.

"Lo siento, Elia," Came the sincere apology, barely above a whisper to keep the growl out of his tone. "Come here... What is it?"

Hesitantly, the boy stepped closer. It was clear to Rafael that he was close to crying by the shine of his eyes, the way he tipped his head back such an obvious manner. As if he could force the moisture back inside.

"We're hungry, Raffi. A-and Felipe was saying bad things," Felipe was one of the twins, one of the three brothers he had managed to salvage from the destruction. "I want to go home, Raffi, and you can come too."

"Not yet," Rafael told him, shaking his head. "But we can get you some food, si? Vamanos."

I never took you for a liar.

Tlaloc was in one of those rare moods where he seemed almost pleasant, and the hiss of his voice echoed amusement in the empty halls of his prophet's mind. Rafael offered a hand to his little brother, dwarfing the tan one set upon it and completely concealing it with the curl of his blue fingers. He did not respond, beginning to lead the boy across the deck in slow, purposeful strides.

It will only get worse, you know, the longer you wait to tell them.

You can mind your own ******** business.

There was a rumble of thunder in the back of his mind, but it was unlike the one that usually came when he spoke out against the old god. This was a chuckle. Somehow, it was much worse than any threat could be.

Clenching his jaw and pulling Elia closer to his hip, Rafael gave a sharp, cursory glance of the ship's visible inhabitants. Most of them were in little packs, getting to know one another; not worth approaching unless he was seriously pressed. Rafael did not exactly dislike people, but he despised groups, especially those of children. He just wanted an answer without being stared down like the unwelcome stranger in the room, to be derided as soon as his back had turned. It was not something he thought he could handle in his current state, for while he mostly felt numb to the world, he was stretched as tight as a bowstring.

And then he found the elephant in the room, quite literally. The eyesore was sitting off to the side of the crowd, staring with what he perceived as a distant sort of interest. Maybe he was sleeping with his eyes open. Whatever he was doing, he was alone, and that somehow made it alright for him to be approached. The elephant, who had the vague semblance of a boy, was purple. He was blue. Leading his reluctant brother along, he approached Marcus with the air of impatience- he wasn't there to make friends.

"Hey, you," He addressed the other, allowing Elia to step behind him somewhat, "Do you know if they are keeping food here on the ship?" Truth be told, he was kind of starving.

"It's alright," Padma answered, a bit sadly. "I wish I would have tried harder to get them to come, but there's not much I can do about it now." She grinned ruefully. "Looks like I'm one of the few that didn't bring anyone."

"Nice to meet you Sarah." She wasn't sure what else they could talk about. Most of the things that they might have talked about once weren't exactly important anymore. "So," she started. "What are you guys looking forward to the most about the new city?"

Maybe it wasn't a good question, but it was the only thing she could think of that wouldn't be either too intrusive, like questions about their gods, or anything like that.

Padma's question made Keahi pause. "You know... I haven't really thought about the new City much. Well, I mean, other than we're going there." He wondered briefly what it would be like and how it would differ from Southern. There were sure to be differences, but Keahi hoped there wouldn't be too many. Southern had been home, he'd known Harbor like the back of his hand (well, mostly) and it was going to take a while to adjust to new surroundings.

"Well, I guess that for one thing, everyone will be on even footing for a bit. We'll all be confused and lost." He grinned a bit.

She giggled. "I haven't really thought about it much either, myself. We've all been so distracted by the almost being wiped out bit, that we haven't really had time to think about anything else."

She stared out at the water for a moment, clearing the bad thoughts from her head before turning back to the small group. "I'm really hoping there'll be a really awesome ice cream parlor like we had back in Southern."

Padma grinned back. "That's very true, assuming that there aren't any players already there. Then they'd have the advantage, and we wouldn't." She shrugged. "I don't think there will be any other players though. We had the referee and the game master, so it would have been silly for any of the gods to awaken their player where they couldn't play."

Padma yawned. She was starting to feel tired for some reason. "I'm going to go and find a place to curl up. I'm starting to feel really tired. I think all of this is finally catching up."

She grinned brightly at them, and then vanished, moving through the crowd to find an empty corner to curl up in.
