Invictus Draconius Kalsidius VI
(Draco)

Draco read the lines in seconds, when he wrote his reply it was in Russian.

'Боясь Юниор смутит Вас? И Джаз хорош, лучше чем, что большинство его возраста слушают.' Draco slid the piece of paper over with out looking at her wrote, thinking he had written in English, not thinking he was writing using the Cyrillic alphabet.

Thirty seconds later Draco finished translating his homework, then translated it to German for fun and then cracked open the massive programming guide. Most every program from the last fifty years of computer programming was there in C++. What he was going to do is pull ten of these together, make them run together and then write the whole code out in Binary. A task that could take weeks. Good thing the project wouldn't be due till the end of next semester. On top of that he had to write a new program, which was going to be crazy. He would probably cheat, write it in C++ and then translate it down to its binary source code. God this would take forever.

[Writing in Cyrillic is such a pain; that's why I usually Romanian it. Same thing with typing; if you don't have the proper keyboard, you have to copy and paste the individual letters from another website. Ugh. XP]

User ImageDane tried not to be distracted by the interaction between the older students near him but he was failing to do this quite terribly. His attempts crumbled even further when Draco wrote a swift response and Core proceeded to tap and shove the note in his face. Immediately, he was confused by the onset of non-English script but as his eyes became adjusted to it, his mind worked through the Russian symbols. He had to laugh. This guy had guts to imply or ask downright if Core was afraid of someone, especially someone who was younger and lacking in much physical strength. His blue eyes flickered over to those of Draco.

"I'm not what Core is afraid of but thanks about the Jazz thing. My dad was big on it back home. Do you listen?" Dane turned his attention to Core and grinned smugly at her almost death glare. He liked her a lot and sometimes the line between friendship and relationship faded for him so to be on the safe side, he went with the customary teasing. He took off the headphones and pushed them over to Draco's side in case the other boy wanted a taste of it. As friendly a gesture as it seemed, it was also very selfish since he had not gotten very far with his homework and Core would probably scold him openly for not keeping up with it.

Draco picked the headphones up and listened to it for about a ten seconds before passing them back over.

"I don't listen, I do. I prefer orchestral jazz, or big band." Draco was writing now, he was actually writing out the code to the program. He turned his head and noticed the door open and close to the Library. The Valentine's. Are they really? He saw it, the small box in Amelia's hand. He only noticed it because he was looking for the stuff. They're presence made him think about his own problem. Draco dropped his pen and started rubbing his wrist. It was fake though. The catch on the ring slid open, there was an intake of air and wipe, the catch closed and then Draco was again writing out an endless array of one's and zero's.

"Why did I ever take this course. Just so I could write a better audio formatting software. Dumbass I am." Draco chuckled after muttering all this under his breath.

Amelia Valentine

Amelia and Emerson drifted into the ugly library after she'd put away her little tools of the trade, almost as carefully as she'd packed away her multi-million dollar Strad Violin. She laced one of her hands through his, and let the other one run along the shelves of the high class novels. The library was an ugly thing, but Steering had not skimped on the books within. They had everything from Nabokov to Fitzgerald to Herbert to Priest. Anything a student could possibly need for an assignment or even whim, the library would provide for...including the occasional Senior Class hide-and-seek games; it was a favorite hiding spot. One hand still trailing, one hand still entwined, she floated through the dim, musky smelling corridors. Amelia had always loved they way old books smelled; it was...comforting.

She spotted Draco, Dane and Core sitting at one of the many study tables near the front, just out of sight of the front desk; she managed to see it ring-snort, barely. Clever. They could do pretty much whatever they wanted right there. She let Emerson pull them towards the trio, not feeling up to resisting. Unlike him, she wasn't a sociable dope fiend. Not that Amelia was especially sociable when she wasn't high, but still. If there was some one worth speaking to (beside Emerson, of course) she'd speak more.

"You missed a zero. Right there, on line thirteen-five, three digits to the left. It should go 'one-one-zero-one-zero-zero-one-one.'"

Emerson pointed down over Draco's shoulder, showing his mistake to anyone who cared to look. His smile was sloppy, the best of the mud rush still singing through his veins. He'd taken the course in the year before, for the hell of it, mostly. He glanced over at Core, his eyes sliding right over Dane, as if the boy was no more then the chair he was sitting it. Normally, Emerson would've made the effort to get to know the kid, maybe even play nice for longer then the polite five minute conversation, but he was still wrapped up in God's warmest blanket; wasn't worth it, in short.

"Hullo again, Cornette."

The unusual name was enough to stir Amelia out of her bubble of warmth of security. She blinked lazily over at Core.

"Your name is Cornette? Is that...Dutch?"

Draco looked up and then back down reading the lines quickly. ******** he was right. Draco was very really tempted to nut check the uppity jock. Draco restrained himself and corrected the mistake. He went back to the line he had been working one and finished this. That was only half the code. He would work on it later on his laptop. He turned around to look up at the twins and chuckled. It was clear, they were floating on the high. They weren't risking much, the library was huge and full of racks of books. The perfect place to hide if you needed to get high. Draco used his room, since he bunked alone. Something along the lines of no one wanted to sleep with a maniac.

"So couldn't stay away Valentine. Have you told Emerson about my offer? I'm sure he'll take it, regardless of what animosity we have towards each other. Acest drept Valentin?"

Amelia Valentine

Amelia shook her head, making her world spin wildly; she closed her eyes, trying to make everything turn back on the right axis, and missed the look Emerson was giving her.

"Ya zabludils’a. Chto novava?"

"Ni bispakoytis'. It's nothing, Emerson."

He's just trying to become our new mud slinger and promising twice the product at half the price. Amelia wasn't about to tell him that, not in front of Dane and Core, anyway. She eventually would tell her twin, of course, of Draco's offer; she didn't keep secrets from herself. Amelia opened her eyes to discover that while she wasn't looking, the world had returned to normal; her rush was beginning to fade into the normal, pulsing warmth from her abdomen.

"The answer is 'non', Draco. Tu es un grand risque."

I don't know you, and I don't really want to know you. Or so Amelia told herself. Maybe it was just the high, but she was finding herself more and more to want to get to know this persistent musician. He wasn't even acting like the rumors had said he would! What a shame. You expect depraved debauchery and decadency, and you even up getting an ordinary, sex-craving senior. She laughed quietly at the memory of their music teacher and Draco together. I should use that, to my advantage. But how?

Cornetta hated that her eyes kept diverting to look around at the two boys. Dane was being his usual social self while Draco could not help but sound a bit pompous. Then again, she had her own bias opinion when it came to him. She tricked herself into studying her books again and began moving her hands in a mocking motion of the directions printed on the page in front of her. By the time that Draco was mumbling to himself about something or the other, she had already decided upon a double set swing. It would be the biggest she had gone out for a project but this was senior here and she needed that bang with which to go off.

Emerson and Amelia's presence was hardly bother but she did spare them a moment to catch the former's glance, not that it mattered especially when he butchered her name. This would have been okay if his sister had not said the terribly wrong same thing. Her usual blank face flashed utter annoyance at both twins before relaxing into its accustomed state. Dane began correcting them with a suggestion only to use her nickname and nothing else if they really wanted a conversation with her. This was ignored as well as her mind swept her off to the land of creativity while her hands expressed what was going on in there on the first blank page of her class book. Then came the languages that she could not understand and she nearly screamed at them, more specifically at Amelia. Who the hell cared about if she was bi-lingual or tri-lingual or any other lingual? Be nice to those who do not give a damn.

Her books closed immediately, followed by her bags finding her shoulder and then she was on her feet with the intention of leaving. Dane's face was the only one which she focused on with the intention of communicating a silent goodbye till they met again. She needed peace, solitude and absolute quiet. Those three things were not living in the Main Library at this exact moment but she knew where would be to welcome her with open arms. As most of the classes had finished around this time, the corridors and shortcuts were unnaturally crowded, making it even harder for her to hold on even to a shred of sanity in her mind. Things about other people's day passed over like the incomprehensible ramblings of babies did. Senior year brought stress and she had been training herself in working under such conditions since that day when she snapped. Or is it that she did not snap? Anyway, Core marched on through the hustle and bustle of normal students and along the edge of the various sporting fields till it was in front of her: her dorm room door. No one came to her and she had had the choice of no room mate. Of course, she had taken it. A rare smile broke over her and with an audible, loud sigh, she threw herself onto the bed to continue thinking about life and that potentially extraordinary end-of-term endeavor.

Draco chuckled. To much of a risk. I think not, your the two shooting up in a library. Core's leaving didn't bother Draco, his focus was on the female Valentine. He packed his books and slung them over is shoulder.

"See you later Dane." Draco turned from the junior and faced his fellow seniors.

"So Miss Valentine," He used Miss to annoy her just that much more.

"Would you like to see that Violin I was talking about. Or should I just woe you later." Draco smiled maliciously towards Emerson as he turned and walked to the counter holding the computer tome.

"Well are you coming or not? Or do you need permission from your better half. You can't always be stuck to his hip, you're going to have to go your own someday. Why not today?" Draco was being mean, but he was being truthful. She was dependent on the boy next to her and she needed to be free. Draco felt like he should be the one to do that.

Amelia Valentine

"Good-bye, Cornette."

"It was nice meeting you again."

Amelia gave Core's retreating back a little wave; truth be told, she was glad the little study-bug was skedaddling. Amelia thought she was a drag on their conversation. Her little boy toy, Dane, wasn't much of a help, either. But the long look from Emerson made Dane's words peter off and die; politely, of course. Amelia felt a little shot of joy when Dane became submissive and returned to his books. She tuned back into whatever it was Draco was saying; she glanced at Emerson when Draco finished his piece.

"...Sure, I'll come."

On my own? To be frank, the thought of being without Emerson for an extended period of time, it scared Amelia. She'd never even thought about them being split apart; she'd just assumed they'd find a flat together, when they got out of Steering that year. Become a staid, old married couple, before we're even twenty. Amelia laughed at the thought and followed Draco out of the library, after she gave Emerson her little box of goodies with strict instructions of where to hide it in his room; he'd only smiled and kissed her cheek.

"Amelia, it is just your month of hiding it. I know where to put it, in my room. Go have fun with your little...buddy."

Amelia knew she'd regret it later; she could hear it in Emerson's tone. He was an amicable dope fiend (usually) but he always remembered their actions when they'd come down. She shrugged mentally and turned back to join Draco, leaving Emerson alone with Dane. Can Draco even play the violin?

"Are you going to play me a song? Can you even play the violin?"

Draco chuckled as he ran his hand through his hair. He could, but what would he play. They entered the dorm complex and using a little known shortcut passed into the men's side of the complex. People were out enjoying the sun so the halls were mostly clear, but Draco was known to bring a girl into the men's dorm.

"Sure I'll play you something. Here we are." He had one of the oldest rooms in the dorm, it was also one of the biggest, designed for four beds, he was the only one their. People didn't like to stay close to him for long periods of time. Draco was in a calm phase, but it could be a lot worse.

"Welcome to my humble abode. So take a seat, or stand, or lie down." He had a big queen sized bed, black on black on black. In fact most of the room was black. Draco dropped his bass, his upright and his bag and opened the closet pulling out an old case. The one thing he liked about the violin was the case. It had a dozen travel stickers on it, like it had been around the planet or twice.

"Here it is, you want to inspect it first, or should I raasen up?" Draco opened the case and pulled the ancient violin out, it was perfect, no marks, no scuffs, perfection. But you could tell it was massively old.

"There it is, the mark." Draco held it up into the light so you could see the worn mark, the other indication of the violin's age. He pulled out the matching bow and ran the raasen over the fine horse hair strings. A old rag came out and was placed under the worn chin guard and then with a pluck he started. A very slow, very mournful tune. The mahogany violin resonated beautifully.

Amelia Valentine

Amelia perched delicately on the edge of Draco's own bed; there was only one other bed in the large(ish) room, but it was stripped down to its are ribs. There wasn't even a mattress on it. Why is it even in here? All thoughts of such went out the window when Draco brought his Strad out to show her. Amelia reached out towards the treasured instrument, but stopped herself just shy of touching the ancient instrument. She closed her eyes when he began to play, and focused on the notes playing through the small room. When it'd finished, she opened her eyes again, and smiled.

"That was....beautiful. How...how did you even get that violin? It's worth ten million Euro. Easy. May I?"

Amelia stood up and reached for the violin. She ran her hands lovingly along the wood and plucked the cords gently. Distinct, clear notes echoed out in the room. Perfectly tuned Amelia's face was a picture of sheer bliss; she was in her own element, her own preferred element when an instrument was in her hands. I wonder who his instructor was. Why isn't he playing this in class, instead of the unwieldy upright?

"You're very good with this."

Draco watched her hold the ancient violin. It looked perfect in her hands, like it had been meant to be there. So he sat down next to her and lay down watching her.

"Looks good with you. Like I said I'm giving it to you, better you than me." He really didn't want to talk about why he was good with the damned thing.

"I'm not as good as you are. Why don't you play something?" Draco was always interested to here other musicians.

Amelia Valentine

Amelia dearly wanted to shake her head, wanted to deny the gift. She didn't like what Draco might assume of her if and when she took it. The musician in her just wouldn't let her move her head in the right way; she nodded slowly, still reverently touching the treated body of the Strad. Amelia fitted the fiddle under her chin, the guard still warm against her skin from where Draco's own chin had been. She closed her eyes, loving the way it felt in her hands, against her shoulder, everywhere. Slowly, she began to play and was sped off to another realm of consciousness. When the final notes had run their course, only then would she open her eyes. Amelia looked a little surprised, to be in Draco's room again; she lowered the fiddle from her shoulder, and smiled, ever so slightly.

"It's perfect. Thank you."

Probably the four truest words that Amelia had ever spoken to anyone, besides her twin. If only he knew what kind of compliment I just gave it. But now, the magic of the notes had faded away and her heroin was wearing off; Amelia was no longer a bird, soaring high in her element, but a lame duck, waddling awkwardly on the ground. She cleared her throat and reached for the Strad's case, meaning to pack it away safely for the trip back to her dorm room.

"I should go."

Draco had closed his eyes while she played and when she finished he kept the beat going, his mind running at million times faster than most would imagine. He felt the bed move and saw her standing to repack the violin. Draco frowned.

"If you insist. Like I said, it's yours. You have my card if you want the offer for the Mud, and if you change your mind about the band thing." Draco opened up the top draw of his nightstand and pulled out a small bong, packed a bowl and then sat it down, intending to wait till she left before he started smoking the bowl.

"My room is open whenever you need to get away, not that it seems that way. Emerson and you seem closer than most siblings. More like lovers. But eh, I'm the one that got caught with his fingers in a teachers snatch." Draco laughed lightly as he stood and rummaged in his closet again, pulling out a massive bass amp and plugging it in, then setting up the upright. He liked to play while smoked a bowl of the Afghan.

"How rude of me though, you wanna hit that? Grade A Afghan, or if you want I got Skunk I've been sitting on. I usually sell cheaper stuff, I give my guys a hit of the Afghan or the Skunk and then sell them some Brown or Purp and say its the high class. They never know the difference." Wait when has he ever let his side business dealings out with another person? Never, not in four years of slinging the MJ or Mud, or Coke. Hell even the two weeks of Dupe he was tight lipped to ever one. Must be cause she loosened his guard, music always made him relax more than a high.

"So you want some?"
