He gave a small nod as he got up, checking in with himself after a long night of good sleep. Morning. Yes, it was morning. He wondered of bringing her to the mountain passes might not be a good idea for the day. The exertion might tucker her out too much for her to find ways to give him heart attacks. Well... he could dream.

"Did you sleep well?" Lian asked, shifting her weight on her hooves as she fluttered her wings. The wind blew by, catching her attention for a moment. There was something out there... something calling to her... No. Focus! Pachu'a

he got himself fully awake and slowly stretched out the kinks in his muscles. his tail slapped his flank as he glanced at her. Did he sleep well? Why did Soqs ask questions with such obvious answers. Oh he knew some questions were considered polite, and so were their required answers. How are you was always to be answered fine, and yourself. It was all so stupid and pointless. If you knew the other person was going to say they were fine, regardless of the truth, why bother asking? He had tried answering it once, as a foal. Some one asked him how he was, and he answered. His tail flicked as he remembered. His flank had been sore from where some stupid squirrel had nailed him with the shell of an acorn, and his ear itched from a nasty case of mites he had picked up, and he had been hungry. So he said all these things. They were obvious, mind you, he still had a bit of a red mark from the acorn, he was eying the grass longingly, and he kept flicking his ear, but he had been asked, so he answered. The filly who asked him had gotten upset and left. Taught him a lesson or twelve, that was for sure. Why did she ask if she didn't want the answer. Because, he learned, it was considered polite. He snorted through his nose. Asking a question with an obvious answer, knowing exactly what lie the other person would tell, was pointless to him.
So, had he slept well? He was awake and alert now, unkinked. Clearly he had. It was obvious. He didn't think Lian wanted the polite answer, mind, he certainly hadn't raised her that way, and he wasn't going to. So he didn't answer because he saw no need to play the social lying game, he didn't answer because she had perfectly good eyes and ears, she could see he clearly had slept well, as he could see she had, so the ritual was pointless, even when neither side was looking for a lie. She needed to learn to be more observant anyway. He flicked his tail sharply against his flank.

"That's good," she chirped. "I wanted to ask you something. Well, more like tell you something." She paused to gauge his reaction.

He inclined is head slightly, to show that he was listening, an ear twitching back. This girl talked a lot, and she was no longer a foal to have that excuse. He really didn't want to think he had raised a chatterbox. "Words are precious, use them wisely," he advised. And they were. When used correctly, words were precious and were well capable of communicating that which was not obvious to anyone with any observational skills at all. Even Pachu'a knew there were times to speak, to use words even to have a dialogue, but they were not to be tossed about carelessly, then they lost value. One must think careful plan their speech, and then say it. She did not have to, for instance, inform him that she wished to speak, clearly she did, as evidenced by the fact that she spoke. Had she gotten right to the point, she would not have flubbed what it was that she had said in the first place, for correctly or incorrectly said, it was, in the end, superfluous.

She studied him for a moment then shrugged slightly. "Alright, I'll get right to the point. I want to travel. On my own."

He blinked, startled. Startled, and a little hurt. She no longer cared for him? He tried to harden his heart, to remind himself that this was why he was better off alone, and why he should have ignored her when that idiot ran off and abandoned her. That was the problem with kids, they grew up and wanted nothing to do with you. So it was for the best, right? His ear flicked. Not right. Against his better judgment, he had let her into his heart, and if she truly wanted nothing more to do with him, he knew that heart would be trampled under her hooves as she left. But what could he do? He could hardly chain her down, nor would he if he could. Unless of course that would keep her safe. Concern in his eyes then as he worried. What would happen to her on her own. She'd go flying into a tree branch, that's what! That girl needed some one, needed to be cared for and protected. Not coddled, he wouldn't have anything to do with some delicate rose who needed coddling, but she still needed looking after. Who would look after her, once she had forgotten about him?

She watched his ear flick and the concern on his face. Along with what she thought was a bit of hurt. She sighed a bit. "That's why I was trying to build up to it, Pach," she informed him, using her own little pet name for him. "I know you don't think words should be thrown around, but I'm going to do it anyway. I love you. You've been such an amazing uncle, and I think you raised me well. But I'm an adult now, and I need to go out and learn more about the world. I need to travel and meet other soqulis. I need to learn, and maybe help people if I can. And I need to learn to stand on my own four feet. WITHOUT someone protecting me every step of the way. And you would, Pach. You know you would. You can't help yourself. Even now you're near panicking about who would take care of me while I wandered off. I'll have you know I only flew into a tree ONCE, when I was learning how to fly. I'm MUCH more coordinated now."

His tail flicked as he considered what she said. he hated to admit it, hated it with every fiver in his being, but she was right. She did need to learn somethings that a horse could only learn after they left their herd. Where would he be, if he had been hobbled? Could he really hobble her? Even out of concern. He gave a small snort and nosed her neck gently once. He hardly ever showed that much affection, so he hoped she would realize just how worried he was, and that he was letting he do it despite that, because she was right. Blast it all. His tail smacked his rump smartly. "Visit," he said gruffly. If she didn't check in with him every so often, he's hunt her down and haul her back by her tail if he had to. He'd done it before, he could do it again, by snow.

She beamed at him, filled with warmth and pride that he was willing to let her do this. She had been expecting a bit more of an argument. She'd been prepared to plead her case and stand her ground. That he was just letting it go meant that he was either going to follow her discreetly or trusted her to be fine. She decided to believe in the latter.
"Of course," she promised. "I'll visit often and keep in touch."

He nodded once and gave her once more nuzzle. Oh he was sure plenty of others might have argued and fought, but to what point? She was right. Refusing her would just be wasted words, wasted time, and wasted effort, and might even make her hate him for real. This way, she would find him again, he could see that she is well. If she wasn't well, THEN there would be a reason to argue. In the meantime, it might be nice to see some of the world without worrying what she might do there to get herself nearly killed.

She returned the nuzzle gently, closing her eyes and memorizing the moment. She would miss him a lot, but she knew this was for the best. Taking a deep breath, she'd pull away and smile. "Then I'll be off. I'll see you soon, Pach. Promise."

He nodded once, then flicked his ears towards the mountains. He would go there, and enjoy the cold for a while. It would be easier for her to check in, if she knew where to start looking.

She nodded a bit, to show him she understood then rustled her wings slightly, stretching them before launching herself into the air and beginning on her own adventures. She headed away from the mountains.
