"You haven't been out here long, have you? People didn't go crazy. They went hungry." Lottie stressed the word. "There's not enough food to go around, and people are just starting to get the fact that there may not be more."

"True." Gil said, nodding.
"But, we're in a fortunate area, compared to others around here..." he said, looking around.
"This is the third place we surfaced, the other two BROKE most of the Geiger Counters we have. Sure, this place is in shambles, but places we've seen, the very ground had....Changed..."

"The ground changed? How?" Lottie asked, curious. "What happened?"

"The Radiation from the bombs had made the topsoil, for example, lethal for someone to even touch." Gil replied with a sigh.
"Here though, the ground has just been shaken up like an etch'n'sketch. It will take time, but it can be used."

Lottie though for a moment. "Cities got the worst of it. Especially places like D.C. Places directly hit. So maybe we should just stick to the country, you know?"

"Exactly." Gil said, staring ahead.
"The fact that this town barely appears on a map made it safe from the bombs."

"Yeah. Gil?" Lottie asked, knowing she shouldn't. But she had to know. "I know it's personal, but.... Where are you from?"
((Gotta go, it's my brother's turn at the comp. Be back in about an hour and a half))

Gil was silent for a few moments, still walking down the street.
"...New York."

"I'm from Chicago, myself," She said. She looked somber. "I wish I wasn't." Lottie closed her eyes- it made no difference to her sight, but it felt like it was the right thing to do at the moment.

"Well...There's no point in dwelling in the past. Leave it where it falls and look ahead." Gil said, looking down at her.

Lottie smirked. "Looking may be a bit difficult." But she opened her eyes anyway. "Listening? That I can do."

"...Right." Gil said, forgetting about her blindness.
"If I recall, we still have three or four miles to go...Any clues on how to pass the time..?"

"No clue. When I'm alone, I tend to concentrate on walking," She said, smiling. "You got any ideas? If you say I Spy, it's grilled rat for you," Lottie said, with a wicked grin.

"Well that game REALLY wouldn't work due to your eyes, so it's kinda pointless..." Gil said, rolling his eyes.
He thought for a moment. "...What brought you to this town, anyway?"

"Well, I couldn't stay in Chicago, so I.... left. I wandered. Every morning, I pick a direction and go. When I pass through a town, I follow my nose to the grocery store. You can't miss them," Lottie said, explaining. "So, I didn't really come to this town on purpose. I don't even know what town it is."
