"This is kind of gross," Devi said, examining the vial of black oil. She continued to examine it, despite having called it gross. It was still took her interest. However, feeling there was a greater task at hand than examining a bottle of oil, she put the black bottle back on the shelf and took the pink bottle. "I think the candy line of the rhyme is important - perhaps pink like cotton candy?"
Devi carefully uncorked the bottle, keeping her face turned slightly away from it, unsure of what smells or toxins it may release, and then investigated it.

Super Van thought her potion smelled absolutely delicious. Her stomach rumbled tellingly and she was tempted, for only a moment, to take one little sip (what could it hurt, really?) when Mr. Liddel used the words 'skeletal' and 'smells like food' in the same sentence. She grimaced, recorked the orange bottle and returned it to the cabinet.
"That one smells like tomato soup," Vanessa informed everyone, and then plucked up the white bottle. She investigated and uncorked it.

-She wasn't particularly good at riddles either, but the suggestions that were being thrown around seemed logical enough to her.- "This one smells like flowers" -She offered to the group before shifting the open bottle to her already fairly full hand, gripping it between two fingers.
Stepping up to the cabinet again she took the puce bottle, it looked kind of like the color of wine after all. Setting her cup, coin, and other bottle down, she uncorked the new potion curiously.-

Europa frowned at the bottle in her hands, which fizzed like a bottle of blue-raspberry soda, and held it out. (Her uniform was stained enough already, between the jam and the ink - she didn't need to add fizzy potion to that.) She looked worriedly at Polaris. "I hope so," she said quietly, and then uncorked the bottle and held it to her nose.
She gave it a sniff.

The poem was ringing away in Perry's head while everyone, himself included, took a look at all the potions -- it seemed that some of them had some idea of what it meant, but as far as he was concerned the whole thing didn't make any goddamned sense. His face was pretty set in a displeased frown, but he still uncorked the beige potion he was already holding to see if he could get any clues from it.

"So strange... And such a pretty color." Corvus murmured as she continued to gaze at her bottle for a moment before looking towards the others, trying to gauge how their own investigations were going. When none of the first round of bottles exploded after being touched or uncorked Corvus reached out to pluck up the purple potion. In the back of her mind she couldn't help but wonder what Eridanus would have made of all of this...
Her chest ached at the thought, the void of being alone threatening to overcome her. It was something something she had spent many sleepless nights tossing and turning over. It plagued her thoughts as it wormed its way into her very dreams... She knew she couldn't let that haunt her here, though; couldn't afford to let that particular nightmare effect whatever this place was as the shadows that had chased after she and Devi already had.
Corvus's brow furrowed as she straightened herself out, looking to steel her resolve as she uncorked the potion so that she could investigate it further. She had to have more faith in the others, more faith in herself. They would get out of here. They just had to figure out the madness behind the damnable potions.

(As a note, Tate has been retconned out of having made it to the room.)
The yellow bottle, John found, was a bright shiny banana colour. The liquid inside fizzed and bubbled, foaming up a little when agitated, and it had the unmistakeable smell of a Twinkie snack cake.
The pink bottle was cotton-candy pink, the bubbles dancing inside the liquid as she took it. As Devi cautiously sniffed at it uncorked liquid, counter to the sweet colour it had the equally unmistakeable smell of roast beef.
So it was hard going for Super Van, who was already hungry, and after plucking up the fizzing bone-white mixture heralding the white potion she found that uncorked it smelled exactly like mouthwash? At least that didn't make someone hungry.
It was a rare person who would call the puce bottle puce, as to Sailor Polaris' eyes puce was just a dark maroon pink-red a bit like an ageing cherry. The mixture bubbled within, and as each bubble popped it smelled like bubblegum.
Uncorking it, Sailor Europa's blue bottle smelled enticingly of aniseed -- no, liquorice.
Perry's beige potion smelled unmistakeable to a science teacher. It was mould.
And as for Corvus, the pretty purple potion when uncorked smelled like -- Jack Daniels whiskey? Alcohol of some kind.
Everyone's head started to become a little light from having smelled the bottles.

For approximately the last eight years of her life (eve since John Jr had grown teeth) Vanessa, who'd taken it upon herself to ensure the health and quality of her little brother's pearly whites, had set an example for him by brushing her teeth every morning after breakfast and every evening before she went to bed. But she was a bad girl and skipped out on things like mouthwash and dental floss. The smell that wafted up to her nose from the white vial was not exactly unfamiliar, but it was a moment before she could recall the name of the scent.
"Mouthwash," she giggled, unaware of the toll the fumes from the potions were taking on her body, and turned to smile at anybody who would meet her gaze. "This one smells like mouthwash. Isn't that funny?"
It wasn't, really.
The white bottle was plugged again and replaced on the shelf.
Golden eyes danced over the remaining vials. Tongue stuck out of the corner of her mouth as Vanessa concentrated, and tried to remember which of the potions hadn't yet been examined. Her brain wheel was running even slower than usual. For somebody who needed all the brainpower she could get, this was an inconvenience.
Finally, after dancing over the enticingly labelled red potion, skinny fingers closed over the black bottle, which Devi had returned to the cabinet. Super Van, curious as ever, held it up to her face and uncorked it.

The strong smell of alcohol invaded her nostrils, causing Corvus to make a face as she held the bottle quickly back away from her, trying hard not to cough. "This... Ugh, it smells like something out of Daddy's liquor cabinet." She corked the purple bottle, setting it back down carefully amongst the others, bringing a gloved hand up to rub at the bridge of her nose. She had never been told before that just smelling alcohol could make your head feel woozy...
"None of this makes any sense at all; at least not unless we're going to follow that poem. In which case, whatever that one does," Corvus pointed at the purple potion, "I'd bet it acts quick."

Europa announced, "This smells like licorice," and recorked the blue bottle. With so many smells she was starting to get a bit dizzy, best to do her part. "Mouthwash has alcohol in it," she said to Van, considering the poem.
"I think it's probably got to do with the scents," the scout added, giving the problem a bit more time. In the bouquet of scents, some of them pleasant and some of them not so much, she could certainly pick out her own candy-smelling bottle, and something dimly organic and moldy.
What is alive will not make you sicker.
Europa frowned, deep in thought.
"If it smells like a living thing, it can't hurt you, I don't think," she announced. Part of her was trying to decide if this was more or less aggravating than the puzzle at the end of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
But...
"Things that smell like actual food we probably shouldn't drink," she considered. Something in the mixture smelled nauseatingly of beef. "Dinner, you're thinner, you know?"
It was definitely more aggravating.

Said John reflectively: "This is a liquid Twinkie. Not the fun kind either." What the 'fun kind' was was anyone's guess. "Fizzes, though. All right." He recorked the yellow bottle and put it back.
"Purple, fizzes. Teal, violets. Blue, fizzes. Red, fizzes, teen idol. Orange, tomato soup. Yellow, fizzes, Twinkie. White, fizzes, mouthwash. Purple, drinky-drinky. Blue, licorice."
He put his hands on his hips for a moment, like he was thinking.
"All right. Well."
He took the red bottle and turned so his back was to the cabinet and put his arms out. An astute person might think this was in order to get their attention. An even more astute person might think this was to prevent them from taking any more bottles -- an odd action, to be sure, but they didn't get a lot of time to think about why he might be worried about them doing this.
"Kids --"
He uncorked the red bottle --
"-- don't try this at home."
And with that he lifted it to its lips and drank down its contents in one or two long gulps -- like someone doing shots in a drinking contest -- bottoms-up, and stared at the empty bottle with his mouth in a determined, adrenaline-laced line.

"Bubble gum, this one smells just like bubble gum" -She proclaimed after a sniff, recorking the bottle a moment later. It wasn't one of her favorite scents but it was a familiar one, as so many bathing products seemed to think it was a 'clever' scent.
She shifted from one foot to the other lightly, not quite connecting the fact that she had needed to, that her head was starting to sway just a little. This place was so disorienting anyway.
Ohh liquor! She perked as Corvus announced her scent, recalling the snippit from the poem. At Europa's bits of logic she added with a soft nod.- "The first one I had, the one that smells like flowers might be okay then."
-Lifting her fingers lightly she began to try and count off and recall the things from the list that might be alive. And those that weren't food. But the task was cut short as John suddenly took the inituative. And after telling her not to drink the water!
Her eyes widened and she stepped closer, as if expecting him to fall over gagging. She intended to be there to help if she could. Stumbling a little she maintained her footing in the end, the bottle however, slipped from her grip, falling near her feet.-
((Leaving up to GMness if falling means breakage or not))

"This smells like deli meats," Devi said, taking another small whiff before recorking the pink bottle. The familiar smell was missed already, she was a big fan of deli foods, and her diet consisted of deli foods for lunch practically every day.
Devi gasped as the older man chugged the red bottle. That was a bold and risky move, but she knew that it wouldn't be long before they all had a decision to make on drinking. She took the white bottle as the other girl dropped the puce bottle to the floor. Devi backed away quickly.
"Careful, it could be acoustic!" Devi said. The word she was looking for 'caustic', but hey, Devi was no science wiz. Dr. Westerman could certainly confirm that.

Mold? It smelled like mold, of course it would. Dr. Westerman ran his fingers through his long hair a couple of times, taking a deep breath to fight off the lightheadedness coming from the array of smells in the room, before recorking his beige bottle and returning it to the cabinet. He didn't quite trust the thing, in his attempts at relating it to the riddle-poem: "That one smells like a mold of some kind. Molds are alive, but they're also decomposers, hell if I know if this poem's taking that into account."
God damned riddles. Maybe there was something more helpful elsewhere in the room.
That thought in mind, Perry went back over to the leftmost door to investigate the array of corpses there on the off chance he might have overlooked something about them when he checked them out before. John's decision to down one of the bottles gave him pause for a moment, though, and after getting a moment or two of bizarre-autopsy-time his gaze fixed back on his companion.
