Pyxis nodded, reaching out to take Erin's hand. "Maybe...if all of us hold hands, we won't get all lost in the dark, and um," He hadn't really considered the other benefits, his worry mostly sticking to the fact that he didn't want to be separated from his newfound friends. Especially since they were real. "Oh. And I can stand up easier and stuff." Being within the shade and supporting himself with Erin and Howl seemed to be helping his state, but didn't stop the draw of the cave and its possibility of water.

He didn't complain, then, when Howl began to guide him in its direction. Holding tight to Erin's hand, he glanced back to make sure that she was coming with them.

"Thank you for helping me and...and for being so nice," he tacked on quietly, concentrating hard on moving one foot in front of the other until they were inside the cool solace of the cave.

Raite came over to her as she was trying to think of what to do, neatly plucking the two torches from her hand. Scylla liked Raite. He was a smart guy. Either that or they just happened to be thinking on the same wavelength. Something like that. She'd give him the benefit of a doubt, she decided, and call him a very smart guy. Not out loud. "There are more torches. Give me a second and I'll go grab them." The dark head nodded in the direction of the loose torches, followed by the bound ones in the slings. "We'll use the loose torches first. The bound ones we'll use later if we need them." Her words were given the finality of an Executive Decision; it wasn't said with any hesitation, it wasn't a question. If Jada knew how she was starting to come across, she'd probably be embarrassed.

Her father would be proud.

Heels clacked lightly against the stone as she almost scampered back for more of the loose torches. She managed to collect all seven of the torches in her arms and stumble back to Raite, setting them down on the floor in a pile. Lifting two more torches, she lit them against Raite's own pair, casting more light around the room.

There were still people outside, but no longer were they in a dungeon. It was still clammy and cold, but that was a relief after the sun outside. "You can have those two. When everyone gets downstairs, you can give yours to Howl or... the girl." she felt mildly guilty that she'd been so intent on going down into the cave she'd neglected some basic courtesies. Mildly.

With the light, she could see the stairs, so she went over to them. "Hey!" she called up the stairs; "There is light down here now, so head down when you are ready! If you can't see, yell!" If they didn't reply or come down in a few moments, she'd go get them, make sure they knew. She didn't know how long the stairs went; coming down them had felt like forever. Then she clacked back across the room towards the other senshi, holding out one of the torches. "Here you go, Boreas. Light."

Though a steady hand remained on the scribed wall, Boreas turned his whole body to watch as light filled a small portion of the room. Sure, it wasn't a fireworks show or anything, but it definitely caught the eye of the senshi of winter since he hadn't been able to see anything since they stepped foot into the cave. He heard the footsteps and distinguished that his other two companions were conversing over the new found light. Their silhouettes visible, but still draped in darkness. He didn't move from his spot. He was more interested in figuring out the symbols he had found and not losing his place. However, he did eagerly take his hand off the wall for a few moments as he took one of the torches from Scylla's hand. He carefully lit his torch on her own. Boreas watched with a slight delight and impatience as a child on Christmas morning waits to open presents. Though it only took seconds, it felt like hours to Boreas when he was at last able to harness his own source of light. A grin covered his face, a big, goofy grin.

"Thank you! Now we can work on reading these symbols on the wall. Did you already tell the others at the mouth of the cave?"

Boreas turned to face the wall and began to look over the markings one by one. He wanted to read them as carefully as possible.

Though he was leading the small group he had somewhat laid claim upon, he paused at the top of the steps, glancing back towards the newest addition. Sailor Pyxis' idea was absolutely charming in the fashion that a young child's thinking was. It was simple, true enough, but it was heartfelt and sincere. With a polite laugh, he extended his hand towards the darker-haired girl of the pair.

"It would seem we were all destined to awaken in this peculiar desert. I am still baffled by the fact I woke up without my shoes." His toes momentarily wriggled beneath him, as if to punctuate his point with the simple (probably unnoticed) gesture.

If the girl had not picked up the meaning in his reaching out to her, he soon enough clarified his intent with his words. "Come now, Miss Rosa, was it? I know not if Mr. Pyxis' idea is the most thought out, but it is better than nothing at the moment." For a moment, he shifted slightly, making certain to hold the saddle bag under the pit of his arm while holding onto one hand and reaching out for another.

There was a sound down at the bottom of the stairs, the voice sounding rather feminine. It was only towards the end of the statement that he was able to start translating properly: If you can't see, yell! Though the area was quite dark, if he squinted, he could make out shapes, such as the edge of the stairway. In a calm tone to whoever from his small group was willing to listen, he offered a reassuring "I am certain once our eyes adjust to the darkness, we will be just fine."

"Fine." His short tone made it obvious that he wasn't to taking care of people, even if it meant waiting for them and merely giving them the torch. Or, he didn't have enough patience. Both reasons were very likely in the Lieutenant's case. But since Howl and the others would take a little while longer to come down, Raite moved towards his previous position, the fire lighting upon the groove that he had discovered. He started from the bottom, and followed the groove upwards. Now that he had a bit more light, his gray eyes examined the portion of the wall carefully. As he had suspected, it wasn't a natural occurrence. At least, not one of the cavern. Maybe it really was a door then?

But if it was a door, there was the important question of what laid beyond it? And what was the meaning of the symbols that Boreas had found?

Raite easily held both torches in one hand (his hands being a bit bitter than Scylla's) and his free hand groped over the wall once more. For a doorknob, a handle. Something irregular, where his hand could fit to see if this was truly an entrance to somewhere else. If he couldn't find anything of the sort, perhaps the door opened was pressure was exerted on it?

(Just to be clear, this is not yet opening the door!)

Boreas took one of the torches, and Scylla beamed at him. "Symbols on the wall?" she glanced at his hand, examining the wall. A glance behind her told her Raite was looking at something, though she didn't know what. "We found some writing on the obelisk too." A glance back at Boreas; the other senshi looked as excited as she did.

Raite didn't sound half as excited about the task he'd been put to. Or, for that matter, even remotely enthusiastic about it. "Thank you, Raite." Her eyes moved back to the wall under Boreas' hand.

There seemed to be a loose torch for each of them, and a sling with three torches that each person could wear over his or her back.

Now that they were holding their torches near the wall, they could see why Boreas wasn't able to decipher the symbols he'd seen. They were words, sure enough, but here and there parts of the carved letters had been worn to invisibility by the passage of so many fumbling hands that had come before them.

The words written on the wall were still quite readable, however, and said thus:

Quote:
Here within are the treasures of Solomon;
here are the works of Ozymandias;
here are the jewels of Ramses and the tools of Midas.
Here are the powers that unto no man were ever granted, set to guard over that which no man is worthy to inherit.
Be you wary, seekers of fortune, for that the djinn are creatures of fire and light;
so must you be, if you would measure your worth against that which dwells here: for by no other means will this door be opened.

Hematite wasn't quite on the desert's schedule like the others. Strange mirages and hallucinated voices had sent him on more of a curving sidewinder path through the desert than a convenient straight line by way of flying carpet. He'd only met one other person in the desert, a senshi, and that hadn't lasted long. Kind of the last thing he'd needed on top of dehydration, heat stroke, and waking up in the uniform of an enemy combatant. But it was impossible to stay in one place for long, when moving meant there was actually a chance to find water or shade or some way out of the dunes.

After a lengthy period of being on hold, his prayers seemed to have been answered. There was a cave. It was inviting enough in comparison to the stark black and white surroundings of the desert. But there were... other people there. A lot of them. Suspicious already and not in the best frame of mind, Hematite waited anxiously from a distance while they milled and broke into groups. One half of the group disappeared in, and it wasn't till the other one turned away from the desert to do the same that Hematite began to slink toward it, following the others in quietly, and hoping that he wouldn't be spotted so easily in the dark. If he stayed out in the desert any longer he'd have passed out, and that would have been the end of that.

Giving Pyxis' hand a light squeeze that was meant to be reassuring, Erin nodded and moved forward with the boys--and hopefully Rosa (she glanced back in a 'you're coming, right?' look at this thought). "Harder to get separated, no matter what tricks our eyes play on us." She'd had enough of that for one adventure, thank you very much. Even if she was starting to wonder if it'd been her, or this place...

"Sounds sensible enough," Erin agreed in response to Howl. He was an intelligent sort, she decided. It made perfect sense that if the others had made their way through the dark, they too could certainly cope until they got to it.

After reading over the words scribed into the now lit up walls, Boreas took the sling and threw it over his shoulder. He had already carried a whole other person through the hot desert, a sling filled with a few sticks of wood wouldn't pose a problem. He then turned his gaze away from the writings on the wall and walked slowly with one hand tracing over the surface of the wall. He was far too impatient to stand there reading the words over and over again. Just after a few readings, he was already feeling anxious and agitated. He wanted to see if any other writings were present with their new found torches lighting the way. He didn't so much rely on his eyes, but the indention his fingers felt as they traced along the walls. He didn't notice anything too special or should it be said that his fingers didn't notice any indention that seemed like writing. With one hand on the wall, he turned around to face his two companions.

"I don't see any other writings right now. What do the two of you make of that? I don't think I remember too many of those people from History class."

To be more accurate, Boreas didn't remember any of them from any class. That would be attributed to the fact that none of them had anything to do with swimming and as far Boreas was concerned, they just made the whole thing more confusing.

"I'm going to keep exploring the rest of the walls. See if anything that makes a bit more sense is written somewhere."

He then continued his pattern of tracing the walls with his hand while lighting the way with his torch.

[OOC: Although it may be a bit disruptive to everyone's usual sense of narrative flow, since these threads all go live tonight, you may assume all characters have reached the bottom of the cave and everyone has noticed each other at this time.

You can begin taking actions at any time -- again, nothing in this room can unintentionally harm you (you can hurt yourself with fire pretty easily if you intend to, that's not recommended XD), so this is the one room where you truly can try things with impunity.]

Scylla read the inscription aloud, biting her lip when she was done. Solomon. Ozymandias. Rameses, Midas. All great kings, and all from a very generalized area. Ozymandias, a poem; Ozymandias, another name for Rameses. Rameses, there were tons. His jewels. Midas, of the golden touch, Greek mythology. Solomon. Biblical king, Middle eastern area. Their treasures, all compiled, And... djnn? Really? Really-really? "The Djnn are creatures of fire and light; so must you be if you would measure your worth against that which dwells here." Fire and light... There were bags of torches, more than just- more people made it down the stairs.

A last glance at the writing here, and she started carefully looking at the walls, slowly, carefully; her delicate fingers trailed the stone. She walked the entire room, pausing at anything of interest she found, be it scratches or nicks. "Please don't light any more torches yet, if it can be avoided." she said it loudly enough she hoped everyone could hear. "We want to ration them, if we can. My vote, anyway." An odd greeting for the new people in the room. And she kept tracing the walls, looking at the floor during her pauses at interesting things in the wall.

Raite looked up, when Boreas asked his opinion of the writings. What writings? He located Scylla and Boreas, moving over to where they were with his own torches. He lifted the torches to read the writing clearly, his gray eyes clouding with mild confusion when he read the message. Djnns? Fire? Measuring your worth? He reread it once more, shaking his head.

"Aren't they kings? Or something similar in history?" Raite's major specialized in computers - computers did not consist of history. He didn't try to read the message for the third time, now bored with it. First, the obelisk with it's cryptic message. And now the cavern, with all of it's 'trial' and puzzles. It would have been much easier if they had spelled it out, on the obvious side. Raite preferred it when people were straightforward, which was probably why puzzles annoyed him to no end.

"Oh. Howl. You're here?" His eyes glanced back when the rest of the group entered the dark cavern. There were several new people that he hadn't seen earlier that had joined the group. But that wasn't the issue here. "Take the torch." And he dropped it carelessly into his hand, deciding that Howl would know how to deal with it.

His irritation, somewhat annoyance was obvious as Raite closed his eyes for a moment to collect his thoughts and raked . He certainly wasn't used to be with so many people.

There was nothing else of interest in the room so far as they could tell; Scylla's attempts to run her hands over the stone walls revealed nothing.

Immediately upon arriving down the stairs, the first thing to greet him was the Lieutenant. With two torches. Normally, he would not have let go of the hands of another so quickly, but having at least half a brain, he realized Raite had no need for 2 torches.

The young lad still seemed to need assistance with remaining upon his own two feet, so it was Miss Rosa's hand who was abandoned to quickly grasp onto the torch. It was probably for the best, since the side that Pyxis was somewhat latched onto was also still supporting the saddlebag.

Having manners to spare, he uttered "Thank you, Lieutenant." The catch hadn't been perfect, so he rather quickly requested assistance from the smaller lad at his side.

"Mr. Pyxis, would you be kind enough to take a hold of the bag under my arm on your side, please?"
