It didn't take Hector long to make a decision after all he got was the light, far-off chuckle. "I hate how I got this instinct to be polite," he said. Then he took a step back from the door, raised his booted foot and gave it an open-soled kick.
PostPosted: Fri Jun 04, 2010 9:16 pm

Of course he didn't listen. Of course he was a flaming, moronic, bat-witted, b*****d idiot. The b*****d part was probably debatable in the technical version of the word, but there were a few other meanings that she'd heard of and Chibiusa was liberally applying them all to Hector at that moment.

So instead, she simply looked over to Serandite and smiled while sipping her water. "Perhaps. People like to keep pictures around that show them in a good light. She is very pretty, I wonder if she is maybe a princess here?" Fingers touched the canvas and traced her gown. In the 30th century, fashions were different, but the books she'd picked up here in the 21st showed only princesses in gowns such as these. Black Lady herself often wore them, and apparently during 'prom' they were worn as well. It was very strange, but then, Usagi had always loved to dress up in the same things when out with Mamo-chan. Maybe it was just something girls did?

Tilting her head at the thud, she looked again at Hector and rolled her eyes a second time. Buffoon.

Well fine. If Hector wanted to kick the door, that was all okay with Ametrine. It meant ultimately less work for her, which meant that in the event that something attacked them she would be fresh and ready for it. No, not that kind of fresh, okay. This was business, chickadee. "Inconvenient, that." But then, being polite sometimes reaped rewards, so hey, she wasn't going to judge. Not right now, when she was waiting for some giant person to come a calling, or a golden goose to lay an egg.

There was no knowing what might happen next. No way.

Nobody was listening to her. Except for Walküre, and that was only to comment on the catfight. Aquarius closed her eyes, then thought better of it and opened one of them. With so many people of unknown and shady alliances, she didn't want to be caught off guard. Taking a deep breath, she slowly counted to ten, then opened her other eye and studied the painting again.

It was difficult to focus, what with the Negaversers talking on one side, and the prince banging on the door. The subject of the painting was distracting as well. She tried to ignore it, putting her hands on either side of the frame and trying to shift it in any direction. The door was obviously a trap, Aquarius thought smugly. There had to be another way out.

Well, it seemed like Nobody else was going to help him.

She was not normally brash, it was the only thing that really stopped her from being the first to kick the door. Instead she let hector be the first to kick. She was close by so, in a effort to help, she too tried kicking the door. She was a girl and, without her powers she was weak... but she was at least DOING something.

The door -- which they hadn't actually tried just opening -- gave up its lock rather easily. A good shove with one shoulder probably would've forced the door open fairly readily. Apparently locking them in securely wasn't a major concern for whoever occupied the house.

[The thread is now LIVE. This stage is set up in an interactive fiction format. It is laid out in a number of 'rooms' with a number of interactive objects (indicated in bold during this Stage) and NPCs. Room descriptions will be given anytime a character moves into a new 'room,' and players may post their character's attempt to interact with an object or NPC, and receive a GM response.

Participants act freely, but must make at least one attempted action within 24 hours. Please bold the action you are attempting to take, for example, "Rudy tried to swallow the bouillon cube."

Non-passive actions should be phrased as attempted action whenever possible, in the event a GM must respond indicating that your attempt is unsuccessful. (For example: "tried to stab the rodent of unusual size" rather than "stabbed the ROUS right in its foul belly.") It's much easier to indicate that an attempt did not succeed than to delete or edit a post, and way less heartache! This also helps to ensure that you're not attempting to take multiple actions within the same turn that couldn't occur simultaneously.

There will not be a posting order at all times; however, in certain situations you may be directed to follow your pre-set posting order. Your pre-set posting order in these cases will be the order in which you exit the bedroom.

Room descriptions will be given anytime a character moves into a new 'room,' and players may post their character's attempt to interact with an object or NPC, and receive a GM response.

A 24-hour posting requirement is in place in all puzzle threads. In this thread, only posts containing non-passive actions will count as satisfying this requirement, so feel free to interact with each other, but remember that only non-passive actions (actions intended to result in a GM response) will count as 'activity.'

Good roleplaying, common sense and ingenuity will all be rewarded -- leeway may be given at GM discretion to those who roleplay well, but do not expect this to protect foolhardy or suicidal behavior from consequences.

Good luck!

Participants are allowed and encouraged to take different actions from their teammates. Every participant has a shot at dying.

The Landing

Just outside the bedroom at the top of the stairs, there was a short landing. There wasn't much to see there -- the only decoration was a small side table. It had another pitcher on it, set carefully atop a doily crafted from finely woven lace. The pitcher was empty.

There were stairs head, leading downward.

Hector turned around and bowed to the others briefly -- apparently he really wasn't the type to listen to 'what if the door's being watched?' reason and instead turn around to immediately leave. He was the first to filter out into next room, scanning his surroundings and keeping one hand straight at his side as though that prevented him from trying to draw his nonexistent rapier.

"You'll wrestle a bear for me eventually, son," he said to Marlo, which didn't make a hell of a lot of sense, but then he was high on his success with the door and saying to the others -- "Let's go. All clear."

He was cautious enough in that he looked back and forth immediately as he left, shoulders held in a position of fight or flee (tough luck getting him to try 'flee'). His boots clacked hard on the floor. On the landing, he ignored the table, doily and pitcher except to take the pitcher -- apparently the cavalier wanted to be the first with something to wield.

Hector was now the proud owner of an empty pitcher. A proud day for him and for his family, to be sure.

Serandite put the painting down, following Hector shortly to outside the room. "An empty pitcher. I'm impressed. Now, that leads to the question, dear watson, where did the contents of that pitcher go?" The question was rhetorical, obviously so, as Serandite headed down the stairs.

She seemed to be oblivious to any possible danger of walking down the stairs, her curiosity left her with a desire to see who lived downstairs.

"You guys coming?" She called, taking slow steps down each stair, her hand gripped the railing lightly, flashing a smile back to her temporary allies for the moment.

The Goose that Laid the Lacy Doily just didn't have the same ring to it, nor was the Lord of the Pitcher particularly compelling. Alas. There was obviously only one solution here, and that was...

To break off a leg of the table and use that as an improvised club. Yes, that might well work. While Ametrine hadn't been quite willing to go first (which she blamed on an active survival instinct, and good planning), she was not ready to hang back now that the door was open. "It figures that it would easily opened," she remarked, stepping outside the room and heading for the side table.

Why she so casually accepted Hector's word was open to interpretation, but not incredibly important. Her hands itched for her pitchfork, and that made up her mind for her. Enough of this. She missed her pitchfork, and she missed the stick which she had had earlier. Without her powers, she felt somewhat limited. No doubt for a senshi it would be all the more crippling.

She reached down and attempted to break a leg off of the side table. If it worked, the trees could consider this revenge.

Alas, Ametrine's attempts to strongarm the side table into a life of crime were met with no success. It remained whole, and crowned with a now lonely-looking doily.

Marlo looked at Hector. He watched Hector take the pitcher. As Ametrine started to for lack of a better expression, beat the said table into submission, Marlo was curious as to the lace doily. It was uncommon in today's modern use of paper ones, and you usually only found them in the homes of the elderly, who could still make them by hand.
Lace, intricate or not, was lace, and he'd lost his handkerchief earlier. He needed a replacement. With a shrug, he reached over the purple clothed girl with a like 'excuse me', and grabbed the doily. "Pardon." He backed off, leaving room as to not crowd her. "...I'm sure our hostess will love us coming down the stairs with weapons."

Briefly, Black Lady wondered if she was fast enough to beat Hector over the head with a table. It was these violent little daydreams that got her through the working day in Destiny City, and would help her persevere here. Her largest burden had been the giant bat-like bow that had vanished, and briefly she considered shedding some more of the weight, but without anything to cut it the gown wasn't going anywhere.

How troublesome.

Serandite had removed the question of who would go first down the stairs, and no doubt that was needling the prince, which was good enough for Chibiusa. It was odd, to feel worry and distress for another person's well-being, but she'd taken an immediate liking to the bunny-loving little Captain who was so very trusting of everything and everyone around her. It aroused her need to protect, that thing ingrained so hard in every senshi, even one such as her.

So, striding out of the room without looking at anyone else, Black Lady walked down the stairs hand trailing on the banister as her voice called out after the girl. "Serandite, be careful. This is not the normal world we are used to." There would be no jumping out of the way with super-human reflexes, nor was their strength any different.

Marlo was welcome to any doilies he wanted. In fact, he could help himself to however many doilies they came across. As for the end table... Eh. No success. Well, apparently it wasn't as easy to make an improvised cudgel as 101 Dalmations would have her believe. Cutting her losses, Ametrine followed Serandite and Black Lady down the stairs. She remembered very clearly what happened to groups of people who, in Horror films, split up. No thank you, sir.
