That's true, the names don't always have to mean something! I personally have absolutely no ideas for names, so I don't think I'll contribute any ideas there >w>

Here's my designs! Done pretty darn quick so don't mind how terrible it is sweatdrop

So here's the boy: link
Ignore the terrible clothes on the right, I gave up halfway designing his "tattered" clothes. Oh yeah switch the hairstyles. The one pulled back is supposed to be his royal style since his hair is so unruly (no, you did not see that pun just there), while the curly messy one is his hair when he doesn't keep it...coiffed.

And the girl: link
Ignore her...feet hands. I only realised after her arms and hands look like boots with heals, but left them like that because I thought it was funny. Anywho, I went for a victorian-based design for her dress, but somehow I don't see it fitting. I also imagined her more petite, like the picture on the right (wearing her outside clothes).

For the names, I'm actually becoming attached to the Adiran, regardless of meaning. Or Aiden.

I really like the designs you have. >W<
The boy has that impish look to him and the girl looks very nice, like royalty. && I like the clothes designs too. Yes, even the Victorian style dress. I think it might fit the story, if we changed it's design around a bit.

Designs

some ideas I guess...
the cartoon style is not my usual thing but I am doing an animation with it right now so I'm sticking with it for my drawing this week. hehe.

I fail at life, so I haven't colored these yet. If there's time before the deadline, I may color these and update the links, till then, please check out my sketches. c: Hopefully somebody will like'em...

The princess. First are her traveler clothes, a headshot, and her fancy royal clothes. My color scheme for her character is brown skin, blue-black hair, brown eyes. For her clothes, a mix of pastels and neutrals.

The prince. Same for him; traveling clothes, headshot, and formal clothes. Lightly tanned skin, dark red hair, and blue eyes. His clothes would usually be earth tones, grays, and black. I was also thinking he might be cute with some freckles, though I didn't draw them in.

@ Vena: I'm loving your cartoon style. Your designs are so cute. ;_;

I like all the designs so far, and would be happy with any of them >w<

(no one commented on my designs. are they THAT much of an art fail? xDDDD)

@ Vena :: Your cartoon style is very awesome~!
The character designs are very nice as well~:3

@ Sera :: I like the princess' design. The outfits look great~ >W<
The prince to me, looks like a smug, and pampered guy rather than how he was described. But that might just be cause of his expressions. >< The designs are great. :3

@ Pieprsn2 :: I like the girl's clothes design && the bracelets and rings idea. :3

:O I just got a super special awesome idea! What if we combined our character designs with the traits we like most to create characters that we all contributed to!?! I know it sounds crazy and that it won't work, but if we clip out a few things and keep the things we like, and keep clipping and editing, we might be able to pull it off!

Or would you guys rather just vote on a character design you like?
PostPosted: Sat Jun 05, 2010 6:34 pm

@ Ichigo: Thanks! And yeah, I think the prince has got a bit of a 'tude there. Or something. Hm.

@ Pie: The design could come out disjointed though... I think of a chara design as more than odds and ends put together. gonk Besides, I don't think we'd have to do that since there's plenty of good stuff as is. I'd rather put it to a vote.

Although, there is one thing that crossed my mind. What if everybody likes person x's prince design, but everybody also likes person y's princess design? Could we mix and match them if their designs go together, or would we have to keep the prince and princess designs together based on the artist who drew them? This is totally hypothetical though, I don't think it would come to that.

I would definitely say that if we're voting, then we should vote for the prince and princess character design seperately. There's no point in choosing a design we don't like for one character just because we like the same artist's idea for the other!
PostPosted: Sun Jun 06, 2010 7:11 am

Then I'd definitly think we'd have to take into account clothes and the actual characters seperately. I only say this because I suck at designing clothes, and am rather envious of the good designs here XD

That way it would also be easier to mix and match. Yeah, if we were voting, it would definitely have to be for both of the characters seperately. Or instead of poll voting, maybe vote by mouth since there's a bunch of different things I like off of everyone's designs, and can't really pick just one character for one thing. Maybe I'll do that when I get the chance.

(Any other characters involved can be made up within the storyline, so if your page involves another character other than these two, you have the liberty of designing them)

Do you mind if I say a little something about my character design real fast?

I was planning for the girl's hair to be black, and then silver at the very ends (past the second bracelet things, to be specific). I just thought that I didn't show that in my picture and it was something I liked about the design >_<

Pieprsn2 the avenger

The boy, on the other hand, is much more down to earth. I drew him with blond hair with bangs that constantly cover his eyes. He has tan skin. I'm debating the eye color, but I'm near decided upon silver eyes with long eyelashes that actually look rather bad a**. I drew him with huge shoulders, and very tall. All in all, he looks very cool and mean.

Now this is where I get to his clothing, and I'll explain why I dressed him like this later.

He has yellow rubber gloves that come up a few inches below his shoulders. On his neck he wears a silly dog collar that has "Fifi" imprinted on the name tag. He has a pink t-shirt, with little green flowers all over it. He wears an apron, which has a pink heart on it that says, "#1 MOM" on it. He wears dull colored pants and oversized boots that have several belts on them.

When I designed the boy's character, what I had in mind for the story was this. The boy had stolen a piece of pottery from his mother and was planning to sell it in order to pay for his secret sewing hobby. He made a deal on "YeOldeEbay" and was planning to meet up with the person who bought his pottery along the border of the Light and Dark realms. The person who bought his pottery was the girl, however, and she brought with her an honor guard while the boy came in the guise of a peasant. Scared shitless by all the guards, he attempted to run away, "which involved breaking a guard's nose, injuring a poor horse, and the untimely destruction of an innocent piece of pottery."

I then planned for the boy to be taken captive, and forced to be the slave of the Dark girl. My idea for the rest of the story would be the silly misadventures over which a total badass would be forced to serve a wimp, and over a series of hilarious events they would slowly warm up to eachother and perhaps become lovers (while at the same time the Light realm is furious over the abduction of their prince, and perhaps a war might be waged. I always do love medieval warfare razz ).

That's why the boy is wearing such rediculous (spelling fail x3) clothing: to degrade him.

I'd like to say that I'm slowly beggining to like the idea of the girl having a backbone. It would be funny to see the two arguing, since the boy would be her servant who would be supposed to do everything she says; yet he's the only person she's ever met who does the total opposite. I can see this being very funny (and perhaps explosive...*evil laugh*) and I'm happy either way with the girl being a wimp or being bitchy, because both can be twisted into a very comedic story.

As for the boy selling pottery for his kingdom...I'm personally going put out a thumbs down to that. Nope, not going to happen. I'm sorry, but seriously? If you were a prince of a poor and starving country, would you honestly think that the best way to solve the problem would be to sell pottery!?! Why not make contracts with neighboring countries? Sign pacts and buy masses of food? Invest in schools for educating the future generation? Give money to inventors to discover better ways of living? No. If this guy wanted to help his country, he sure as hell wouldn't do it by dressing up as a hobo and selling pots on the side of the road. When we talk about supporting a country, it takes a lot more money than that, trust me.

About the names. I don't really like the sound of Bianca. I like the meaning behind it, but when I read it the first thing that pops into my head is: "Biance." If this is going to be a semi medieval time frame, perhaps more medieval sounding names are in order? (example: changing "William" into "Willem")

My dad's name is Willem 8D [/random] though I thought William was a normal name back then?

Anyway. I'm gonna have to agree with Piep on the whole 'selling pottery cause my kingdom is low on funds'- business. Unless you have a pottery stand that's big enough to disappear into the horizon, it's not going to make a difference.

Also. Piep. Why would they have pink aprons with witty texts on them in medieval times? Though I really like the boy's secret sewing hobby. XD We could totally have him sell the pottery in clothes he made for himself (since he can't wear it anywhere else).

And for the girl: I like the fact that she's one tough cookie. Maybe have her be the general of the dark kingdom's army? :'D Or a high ranked soldier.

Story-wise: I don't know who threw it in the mix, but having the boy getting a death sentence from the king sounds like fun to me. Then later when they find out he's a great sewer, they'll keep him around and have him make some sexy new clothes so that they all can look snazzy. (And maybe hide this from the princess? Who would later find out cause all the servants in the castle would be walking around in haute couture.)
As for the king of the dark country: I'm seeing him as a wise man that just really loves his daughter and has made some stupid decisions since she was born to keep his daughter happy. (Like for one, giving the boy a death sentence just cause his daughter doesn't like him.) As a result of this upbringing she would be a hotheaded, spoiled brat with one heck of an attitude.

I've looked up some medieval names and here are the suggestions I liked (since Bianca doesn't really sound like a name from medieval times):
For the girl: Aleid, Agnes, Cecilia, Grace (I personally like Agnes best for a princess of the dark kingdom)
For the guy: Damme (I liked this one, but it's a dutch medieval name, so yer..), Thomas, Cuthbert (lol?), Lionell, Bryan

Boys name: Daniel, Tomas, Rueban, Sebastian (No, not after THAT guy), Leonard, Wolfgang, Luke, James, Ashleigh, etc.

Girls name: Cecilia, Vanessa, Cassiette (friends name), Lucy, Rachel, Ashleigh (also a boys name), Hanna (IsNotABoysName), Antonia, Saskia, Sasha, Emily, Sarah, etc.

We really do need names for these characters. :/
