Except you have no excuse not to know, 'true' gamer or not. Don't get pissy with me if you don't take the time to look into the same game series you claim to be a fan of. You understand the more obscure concepts behind Patchouli's magic and the elemental system she uses, there's no logical reason why you shouldn't already know the basic information presented by the endings of the games themselves.

Why wouldn't you link to the actual post rather than your response? I suppose it would be easier than just trying to call me a f*****t to my face though, since that seems to be what you want to insinuate. However, I'm not. I don't have any connection to anyone in this guild.

It's kind of fun to see you infer that I'm an elitist just because I think that the basic canon information, what little that actually exists, should be common knowledge for any fan.

EDIT: Besides, if I was, don't you think I would have come along sooner than taking a year? Additionally, the part of the fanbase that believes Walfas to be a cancer, isn't one that would be using Gaia in the first place.

Everyone has their own way of enjoying the Touhou fandom, it's impossible to say someone is wrong for enjoying an entirely frivolous past time in video games and comics; it would be like saying someone is wrong for playing sports, or reading books, or watching movies. The only people that use the label of 'true fans' sincerely are egotistical shits that think that a proficiency or a certain dedication to a hobby somehow determines their value as a human.

I have no problem if you play the games or not, though I congratulate you, since there are a number of people that don't even bother either due to difficulty or simply not enjoying the genre. I can also further accept that someone could not have seen the Reimu-Suika end to SA, on account of Suika being a poor partner option alongside Aya and Nitori for Marisa, and wouldn't want to bother completing the game with such an annoying option shot. Personally, I've had to look up the endings to EoSD since I still can't beat it on Normal, even though I can handle all others but UFO on Hard. I can understand not wanting to look up the endings though, it feels better to have earned it yourself. Though, there are still 5 other endings to SA to earn, so there's that at least.

As for the fans that haven't even glanced at game materials, I can't really say. I haven't actually met anyone like that as far as I know, so I can't offer an informed opinion. I can say though, that I hope they at least take a look at some of the more secondary official works. There are a few books related to Touhou written by ZUN, as well as Inaba of the Earth and Inaba of the Moon and Silent Sinner in Blue, both of which are arguably canon despite being a 4koma and manga. Same with Strange and Bright Nature Deity and the other Mischevious Fairy oriented works. The games give a good insight into character personalities and attitudes, and I consider their information at the very least to be things everyone should know just out of appreciation for the characters, but there are non-game official materials as well that can appeal to people all the same.

Admittedly, I don't even like shmups. Touhou is the only one I play out of interest for the characters and world, so that I can get a better understanding of the game setting and it's inhabitants. The music sure helps as well. I still play UFO regularly because it has the best soundtrack yet.

It's music like this that keeps me coming back. The original tracks are good, but some remixes are just mindblowing.

I'm rather partial to Crow's Claw, A-HEAD, and UI-70 myself. I'd list Godspeed as well, but they only have this and... Evening Star remixed, as far as I know. His other work is pretty good, though.
