I don't have a very fulfilling life myself and I'm perfectly aware that I fill it up with material things probably much in the way Dude does. Just as a little disclaimer, I don't claim to know what you feel Dude; I can only make comments off what I'm hearing from Purple after all.
For me, it's usually video games. I obsess over finding new games to play and even Moon could attest to the fact that video games have taken over my life.
As for keeping an open mind in the world, yes I generally agree with you Purple. It is a show of balance and strength to hold onto your general belief-set while still being open to new things and sometimes taking them in.

-move into apartment building
-meet hot innocent jailbait next door
-lure poor unsuspecting jailbait waif into your den of depravity

-cue camera shots that always make the guy a major afterthought barely seeing his face
-cue body fluids

I've never gotten a virus from rule34.
But I have a pretty good antivirus program.
A pop up every now and then, but no viruses.
One thing to note, is that the TAGing system sucks.
Don't don't give up after the first search fail.
