Red Eye had just settled upstairs in her bed and with the lights off was flipping through the pages of a romance novel she had been given by one of her orderlies whenever she confessed to have ran out of reading materials. As she got to the line where the man started, 'Risa, you should have known I'd cross ten galaxies and fight three hundred men to save you...' she threw the book down and muttered, "How can people read this crap?"

At that moment the door burst open and one of the few male orderlies burst into the dark room, his green eyes glowing in the dark like a cat, but did no good to help him see in the darkness. "Red?" He called out.

"I'm here," she snapped, picking up her book and throwing it at the push button light switch near the door. In an instant the room lit up. She narrowed her mismatched eyes at him and said, "What?"

"Quartermaster was up here poking around a minute ago, I thought I should let you know," he said.

She stood and walked past the orderly, "Very well, which way did he go?"

"Downstairs?"

"You're helpful," muttered Red Eye. "I'll go find him. I can't read that rubbish anymore. Prince Turtleflute ends up with Risa right?"

The orderly stared at her confused before picking up the book and nodding, "I suppose."

"Return that to the proper owner and if you have nothing else productive to do, which apparently you don't find me something that doesn't end with 'and they lived happily ever after traveling the universe'," Red Eye added, sliding down the railings of the stairs it took her only a minute to catch up with Ziek.

"Quartermaster!" Red Eye called to him, his back to her in front of her. "You were poking your head around my floor. It didn't sound like you were sick from what my subordinate told me. So, what do you want? You got one of my orderlies into a tizzy and he felt compelled to interrupt my reading of Starcrossed and Battlescarred Lovers."

Stripe gave a bit of a gruff laugh under his breath, always being mindful of his volume as he folded a hand around his chin, giving a bit of a mock-thoughtful expression as he looked back towards the captain with a bit of a grin. "Well," He began to respond, gently pulling at the tuft of fur on his chin as he gave a bit of a look around the captain's office, looking over a few book titles as he saw them. "I've never been much or a reader beyond manuals." Manuals for spacecraft, combat techniques, military protocol, VCR's... he'd read them all at some time or another, and had never really thought about reading for leisure, though his literacy was certainly up to par. Lifting an eyebrow a bit as he sees one of the titles, he can't help but feel it seemed a little familiar. Fall and Rise? Sounds like a good romance...

Shaking off the thought a little, he turned his attention back to the captain; so long as they weren't in combat, he still had nothing to do, so he didn't think much of talking and interacting a little slower than he normally might have, taking the time to think through his words, or at least attempt to. Of course, he chuckled a little under his breath again at the mention of the normal pirate reading ability. "Not an average crew here, Captain..." He responded, a bit of a mischievous grin revealing polished teeth. "I wouldn't be surprised if half of 'em were ex-military." Himself included, he added silently to himself, though he wasn't certain how far that knowledge went among the crew, though it really wouldn't bother him if they did know.

Moving to stand up slowly, he was glad the bridge and captains quarter's deck was a little taller than the others, allowing him to stand fully, only having to hunch down for doors. Running his eyes over his wrist unit for a moment, then back to the captain, Stripe gave a small bow at the neck. "I'll have to take a look later, I might as well do my rounds for now. If you're not busy later, I'd like to talk again."

As Ziek made his way towards the bridge, although he didn't really have time to trail away from the sick bay, Red Eye caught up with the tall human. Hearing a familiar voice shout his title behind him caused the man to stop in his tracks and turn his head to look behind him. At the mention of Starcrossed and Battlescarred Lovers, Gash couldn't help but to flash a light smirk. "Huh. I didn't know you were into... these kind of books."

After a short snicker, Stryker cleared his throat and turned around; now that he thought about it, it probably was in his best of interests to not poke too much fun at the doc. Rubbing the back of his neck for a few seconds, he began to speak seriously, although looking away for some reason; a bad habit, probably. "Well... Since I thought you were still up, I wanted to ask you if you needed any medical supplies for the upcoming voyage." His eyes rolled down to look at the shorter Amarelle. "It's probably going to be a long trip, so I'd need to plan accordingly for the time we'll be away with the budget that we currently have." A second passed and he realized his question could have been interpreted as if he was asking for a list right now. Realizing that, Gash tossed a hand in front of him and shook it a few times. "Ahhh. I'm not asking for a list right now at this moment if you don't have any time. I just want to be sure I get everything before we hit town and purchase the required materials is all. You can give me the list later or another day, so I can stop bothering you now. Eh." He snorted once, ready to walk away and meet up with the others if Red wanted to go back to her book.

"This... could be a decent time to start getting to know the crew more than just the usual 'Hey, what do you need' stuff." He thought to himself.

Red Eye sighed as Ziek snickered at her book choice, sighing she said, "I decided not to finish the book. I've read enough of that author's crap to know the endings of all her books already. Don't worry about interrupting me. I read for something to do. And whenever you have a reading speed of approximately 800 words per minute with a photographic memory you tend to run out of things to read quickly."

Shrugging, the doctor continued, "Being as I'm in probably the most gender balanced if not female dominated parts of the ship those books tend to be what is most easy to access. If you read them as comedies they aren't that bad, actually."

She sighed, after her long winded explanation she narrowed her mismatched eyes at Stryker, the poor guy seemed so uncomfortable talking to her. Did she really seem that scary? Red Eye knew she emitted a sort of scariness, at least to her subordinates, but they at least would look at her more often when talking to her. Hell, the cheeky orderly who had fetched her earlier that night, whose older brother was saved from her, though, he practically worshiped Red Eye and was terrified of displeasing her to some degree, he still had the gall to try checking her out when she wasn't paying attention... okay, so maybe the play boy Allister was right she wasn't completely unattractive. 'Maybe I should apologize to him...' she thought in passing about Allister.

Noticing that Stryker was waiting for her to discuss business, Red Eye, continued, "I have a list of thirty-two items that should be restocked or increased in our supplies for medical purposes in my head but personally, I would love if you actually got some different types of food in the mess hall. Some Kree snacks like jellied eel-snappers would be nice..."

"Anyhow, since I don't sleep according to my subordinates how about I go with you so you can at least write up my list," said Red Eye, forcing a smile, trying to put Stryker at ease, no use making enemies of someone the crew looked up to and respected and liked so much.

Though he did not relax, Gareth's mind felt a little more at ease when she put the wrench away, as it had one less thing to focus on. The way she did it should have alerted him to her awareness of him, but he was far too muddled with appearing fine and orienting himself to the newness of the ship that her reactions to him went under his radar.

Her smile - however, did make him relax and a smile of his own to appear as a result. He was about to attempt to continue the pleasant interactions ("Of course, Miss Fletch") when her verbal reactions started with a startling denial and warped to a harsh, angry questioning, as denial often did.

"Oim sure it was nothin', Miss Fletch. Oi think all oi 'erd were gunshots, tho' oi think that if they wer important, there would be more ruckus 'bout the ship. And, well, oi 'aven't found nothin' yet on me way down from me room, so oi think that if there was anythin', it would be below us. Oi guess we could walk down to find it, but if not, oi can stop by the mess hall to report ta ya anythin' oi find," he said, hoping he would accompany her. The more familiar he became with the ship's main players, the better he would be able to calculate what to do next, how to act. But more importantly, he would be able to be more comfortable around them, which would help his illusion as well as his confidence level. Confidence was key, and even he, stubborn as all hell, knew this.

The lack of a stutter, pause, or yelp of surprise from the boy stopped her mental process in it's tracks. It had been years since the engineer had garnered a reaction other than the previous mentioned after snapping at someone. Fletch actually paused, and fixed the boy with a steady, almost puzzled gaze. Her temper, on-the-fly to begin with, had cooled in a snap, due to his small suggestion in logic. Why hadn't she thought of the lack of ruckus?

After tensing for a moment, eyes squinting as her shoulders bunched up, she relaxed, running a hand over the top of her head, nodding slowly. "Yeah, I guess you have a point..." She closed her eyes, fingers rubbing at her temples, and then moved down to massage the knots from her shoulders, cursing again, though unmistakably in a more calm manner. "...mned idiots..." She grumbled. "Missing breakfast...fixing their mistakes..."

Unheeding of him past that point, she turned, not looking pleased to have to go clean up another mess as she began in the direction of the nearby staircase. Her mind was beginning to put together what could have happened. If gunshots, most likely in the armory, though it was possible that there had been a quarrel of some sort. Still, it was on the same level as the armory, so it would be best to start there. A quarrel would most definitely have drawn attention. Everyone liked a good fight, right?

The red-haired engineer was a good distance away when she was reminded that the kid she had just been talking to was a newbie. So, why not educate him and make him not so idiotic as the rest of the crew? She slowed her pace for a moment. "...Are you coming or what?"

Gareth paused, tension building as she stared at him oddly. He was nervous, had he broken some code that he was unaware of? Oh, how fragile this damn mission was. He had stood his ground all right when she had been grilling him, but a resistance to words came naturally after all those years.

Then she relaxed, and her relaxed mumbling offered him some relief. He put on a natural-like smile, the kind that unwittingly belonged to fools or blissfully ignorant people, those two being different. A bit of that smile was true, which helped enhance its realism. Her mumblings were very personal, very human, and from what he knew of humans, this was a good thing.

But then she turned away, to the stairs. His mind froze, his over-attempting at thought breaking the machine entirely. If she did not want him to come with her - there had been no indication of such - than what was he to do? Yes, he had been originally walking down there himself, and there was nothing she could say against that, but he also wanted to get to know her more, for the purpose of his mission. Still, his curiosity would overwhelm anything, and damn any toes he should step on!

It was because of this that, by the time she had addressed him, he was already heading toward her. He paused once, slightly stunned by the force of silly relief.

"That oi am," he said, smiling, only a few moments passing before he was at her distance and pace.

"After this, would ya like ta get some breakfast with me? Oi wouldn't want ya ta get hungry 'cause o' this nonsense," he said politely, doing his best to stay friendly and smiling, which was starting to wear out his cheeks from the unfamiliar expression. He was not actually hungry enough to warrant a meal, but she had been mentioning food, so it would not be too odd of him to ask her to accompany a fellow member of the Black Dawn to a simple meal.

"That's a way of seeing things. Taking them as comedies probably can make these books more interesting to read." Ziek thought out loud after the ship's best medic voiced out, or more like sighed out, her opinion.

Making a mental note of the eel-filled snappers, Stryker blinked a few times at Red Eye’s proposition with no response; it's not that he was overly surprised or shocked, although he wasn't exactly expecting this; he was just thinking to himself that it wasn't a bad idea. "Sure, why not? My room's right above us... Or well office. Eh, anyway." He cleared his throat and showed the way with a hand gesture, letting the lady take the lead if she wanted to.

The odd pair made their way to the second level, their footsteps clicking on the stairs as they went up and finally arrived to their destination. The room wasn't much to be honest. A simple steel coat holder that didn't seem to be used much was standing up straight to the left. On the wall behind the holder, closer to the ceiling than the floor, was Stryker's old set of weapons: on top of the set was a katana in a black sheath with a blue strap delicately wrapping the rough hilt and showing age; in the middle was a shorter sword with its sheath and hilt made out of pale wood and finally at the bottom of the set was his shotgun, a little small and weaker for a shotgun one could say but Ziek found it useful to have something he could pick with one hand and that could still blast someone's head off.
On the wall facing the room's door there was a desk: Ziek's work station. The mahogany desk wasn't extremely big: it had enough space for one person to sit with two drawers to the right but it was more than enough for him. Sitting on it was a pad and pen which the quartermaster used to take notes or calculate budgets when he didn't want his life simpler with a calculator. On the center of his work station was a clear blue translucent screen caught in between two thicker pieces of plastic: a digital pad, one of the more useful tools to a quartermaster. A small steel lamp was resting on the upper left corner of the desk, un-lit, and beside it was a coffee machine accompanied by a dark blue coffee mug for, well, coffee. A black chair on wheels was waiting in front of the mahogany station; nothing really fancy, it actually was quite a cheap chair but it was still comfortable enough for Ziek to be content with it.
On the right side of the room was Ziek's wardrobe, which doors were shut and his single-size bed which was close enough to the wall he could kiss it in his sleep. As mentioned, the room wasn't much and certainly wasn't extravagant in any way... But at least it was kept clean. Well, that is, aside from the bed, which was a mess: Stryker's blanket was pushed completely to the side; his pillow crookedly leaning a little on the door's facing wall. If one wanted to he or she could almost draw Ziek's figure in the drapes' ripples with a finger.

"Well, here we are. You'll have to excuse me for the bed, I hum... Don't usually make it since I'll mess it up again later, anyway."
The six foot tall quartermaster stepped into his room, heading towards his black chair and sitting on it. Taking the digital pad and booting it up by pressing a button on the top right corner of the gadget, Ziek moved his fingers around the pad's interface, browsing through documents and finally opening one. "So... Eel-filled snappers was it?" He thought out loud while typing up Red Eye's earlier request. As he was about to ask what else she would like, the ebony haired man looked up and around his office only to realize he didn't have any other chair for the Chief Doctor. "Oh huh. Sorry there really isn't much place to sit here... Hum, you could sit on the bed I suppose or maybe you'd be more comfortable on my chair? I don't mind moving if you want it." The man offered, a hand on the chair's armrest, ready to move for the petite lady.

Red Eye glanced around the room her mismatched eyes inspecting the room. The room was much different than her own. It was tiny. Simple, no extravagance at all. Not that Red Eye was an extravagant person, but she did have her fair share of books stacked in organized piles in her more spacious room, a collection of her personal medical supplies, and silk bedding, a nice touch she had adopted herself with her income as ship doctor. Red Eye liked to have her room immaculate and the bed out of order immediately caught her attention.

Sighing, Red Eye leaned over the bed and made it while she spoke, "I suppose your logic about the bed makes sense but it still is an eye sore. Regardless, the bed is fine to sit on, no use making you get up." After making the bed she sat down on the bed, dangling her legs over the edge and leaning her elbows on her knees. "By the way it is Jellied Eel Snappers acctually, eel-filled snappers aren't even a Kree dish."

Red Eye sighed, "Not that I expect you to really know Kree cullinary dishes. Anyhow, forget about the request. It was just a whimsical request. I used to eat them as a kid a lot and miss them sometimes. It is near impossible to get good Jellied Eel Snappers." As an after thought she said to herself, "Of course then again I could probably cook them if I had the ingredients..."
PostPosted: Tue Dec 14, 2010 9:28 pm

Gash started pushing on his clear screen some more just as Red Eye told him the bed was fine to sit on. As he lifted his head, he noticed the ship's doctor making his own bed. Before Ziek could move, though, she was already done and sitting on it. The quartermaster gave a slight embarrassed sigh and rubbed the back of his neck, but gave the young doctor an appreciative smile. "You didn't have too, you know? But thank you. I know it's an eye sore to some people, but I don't usually have folks in here, so..."

Ziek cleared his throat once after Amarelle had corrected him on the Kree dish; of course, he just had to screw it up. Next time, he'd have to make a better mental note of it. His fingers fiddling around on his glowing pad, he erased his previous note and wrote the proper name. "Jellied... Eel... Snappers... There. Got it right this time. It sounds like a, huh, rather interesting meal... Or snack. I’m not sure actually." He thought out loud for a moment, trying to picture what the dish could actually look like and trying to guess its taste. After failing to do so for a second, he brushed the idea off with a shake of his head. "Hum, anyway. I could try and get both the Snappers and the ingredients, if you'd like."

Raising his eyes up to his guest, Gash realized how uninteresting talking strictly business could be; sure she was there to give him a list but... Would it hurt to chit-chat about something else in between items he'd type down in his pad? Surely, just having Red list what medical supply she needed or her own personal requests could make five minutes seem like forever. Stryker thought for a moment, brushing his hair with his hand as he put his tablet down on his leg, lighting his black pants in a bright blue color. "Well, you probably figured I don't know much about the Kree people, but I always like to learn more about other races than human. How was growing up for you? Did you grow up on the Krees' home planet?" he asked the girl; it was a way to know where to get the Jellied Eel Snappers from and, at the same time, learn a thing or two about Red Eye if she felt like answering his questions.
