Hisaki's grin faded slowly as he heard the whispers and mumbles from the crowd. "Hisaki cheated?", "Wow, I wouldn't expect that out of him.", "Jeez, that Hyuuga kid had to use the Byakugan for such a simple move? That's pathetic.", "Man, does this mean its all over?" Hisaki frowned, What the hell man. I was planning on secretly using this for all three. Why the hell did I flick off those shades!? Damn... Now I'll have to really work on this. Hisaki, now peeved, pocketed the shades, and disengaged his Byakugan.

Hisaki stood up on the branch, and announced, "No, on the contrary, we never fleshed out those rules prior to the event." Hisaki bounded down from the tree, and faced the Yamanaka nerd, "From here on in, no jutsu outside of the ones we're supposed to be learning... I guess... Oh, and before we forget," He said, poking the loser in the chest, I'm not losing this thing."

Hisaki turned to the pond behind them, "Now for the second round. Behold... The Art of Water Walking. For those of you who don't know what this is, let me explain. Using chakra control in a similar way as we did when we ran up the trees, we can control our position on the water. To walk on water, you must remember two things. First, you must create a steady flow of chakra out of your feet and into the water. Second, the flow must be variable. The surface of water changes constantly, quite unlike a tree trunk. Consistency and flexibility are the name of the game here," he said with one last, charismatic look at the small audience.

"How about it Yuki, you want to go first again? Even without my Byakugan, I'll still learn this jutsu much faster than you could ever hope to."

"Never fleshed out the rules prior to the event? I didn't know we needed to state such obvious things." Yuki grumbled as Hisaki poked his chest declaring his invincibility to defeat.

He listened to the flavor text that the other boy was saying, miming the words in his head as he went over how to execute it. Consistency and flexibility. He repeated mentally to himself as he stared down at his own feet. This jutsu is going to take more than just focusing.

"Alright, I'll go first, to show you how it's done." Yuki said without much thought, he didn't mean to be mean, it just slipped. Either way, he walked towards the pond's edge while taking his shoes off. The water was at least half a foot deep, and was quite warm to the touch. His feet touched the clammy rocks at the bottom, sending shivers sprinting up his spine.

Alright, constant pressure, variable chakra output. He repeated 'consistency and flexibility' in his head over and over again as he focused chakra into his feet. Almost immediately he was lifted upwards, but just as quickly he began to sink. In fact, his body did not stay level at all, it was continually sinking and rising at different times. Now I see what people mean by constant, but a variable stream of chakra. The water is constantly moving, I guess that is because it is a liquid and not a solid state of matter. Now the only way to walk on water is to either predict it's every movement, or to apply the chakra as you feel yourself move. Now, predicting molecule movement is simply out of the question, but compensating your chakra level on the water is reasonable.

And so Yuki sat there for a few minutes, trying to apply more chakra when he began to sink, or lessen the amount he used when he reached the top, issuing more or less each time he had to compensate before he was literally inches from being able to stand on the water. His eyes were closed the entire time he did so, to mentally focus on his own chakra and the feeling of the water on his feet.

"Alright, time to walk." He whispered, lifting one foot. Yuki noticed his immediate predicament, now he had to focus with one foot until he took another step, and once he would take a step, he would have to re-level the chakra in his feet again. Constant, and variable. He repeated again, as he took the step. As if by magic, his feet did not sink!

Overjoyed by his immediate triumphant, he took another step, and broke out into a smile. He now opened his eyes and took a few steps in quick succession. Yuki chuckled, he was literally walking on water! It was also a second jutsu he had ever learned, and he learned bother of them in one day!

The Yamanaka boy then walked across the pond until he was in the middle of it. His hands were outstretched and he had quite a humorous grin on his face, "Well Hisaki, have you made any progress yet?" He jeered as he stared at the audience, bowing as he did so. I wonder how much I can push myself with walking, like, can I...jog? He wanted to test it out, but he also had to save what was left of his energy for the final act, the Transformation Technique.

Hisaki slid down to the water's edge as the other boy challenged him. He kicked off his boots and stepped into the crystal clear pond. It reached just above his ankles where he stood. He reapeated to himself, "Consistency and Flexibility...". He began to pour chakra into the soles of his feet. He began to rise slowly, then sink. He could feel himself being moved by the flow of water slightly. Although there was no current or waves, the wind pushed him a little bit like a sail and gave the water slight movement. Still though, his feet where below the surface, as if they were floating on the water rather than standing on it. I need more! But I can't see how much I'm doing, or where it's going. My left foot seems a bit lower. I'll just even it out and-

SPLASH! Hisaki fell sideways into the water. Getting back up he took a look to the crowd, "It's a bit tougher to learn than it looks, huh?" thought it through... He had forced more chakra flow to his left foot to try to balance out, but either the output was two big, or the balance on the foot was off. Either way, the push made him tip over into the water. He shook his head out and got back into the water. "Lets try that again..." He pushed softer than he had with both feet, and for a moment, he actually stood on the water. Immediately though, he sunk.

Flexibility... Consistency and Flexibility... Constant Flow, Variable output... The words echoed in his head. He closed his eyes and pushed out chakra from his feet again. Again, he touched the surface like it was floor, but sunk. Harder, softer, harder again he made the flow, trying to imitate the ripples of the water. He took a step, and this time, his foot touched like it was solid ground. He took another, and it too touched water like it was a solid. Unfortunately, even now, he had to concentrate way to much to call it done. It had to become second nature, or at least something he could stop paying attention to while he was doing other things, before he could say it was learned.

He heard cheers from behind, people saying, "Look at that!", "I've never seen anyone get that so quickly. I've heard some people take days to learn it.", and "He is obviously going to become a great ninja someday if he keeps that up." A smile spread across Hisaki's face, Hell yea, they can already see that I won!

Hisaki looked over, expecting to see his opponent standing uselessly in the water, but Yuki wasn't there. Hisaki looked over his shoulder, the kid wasn't taking a break either. Where the hell is that puny shrimp of a ninja? Then, from out on the pond, he got his answer. Every hair on the back of his neck went on end as he heard the words, "Well Hisaki, have you made any progress yet?"

Hisaki looked to the middle of the pond, and stared, bewildered. The kid had made it out to the middle of the pond already. He'd mastered it before Hisaki could! Hisaki broke his concentration, and fell straight down the six inches. He trudged back up to the water's edge, and shook off his feet before putting his socks and boots back on. Damn it, how'd that little punk figure it out so fast?! I gotta think of something quick! If I don't I think I'll lose this one. Think... think... ugh.... the Byakugan and other jutsu are unusable now, and we're tied! Can I pull off the next jutsu in time? My chakra is starting to feel low.... Damn it...

He got up and said, "Good game Yuki... Good game. Now for the tie-breaker. The next event is the Transformation jutsu," His voice grew louder as he explained the next challenge, "The Transformation jutsu is an instant disguise. The transformation technique is considered to be among the most difficult E-ranked techniques, as it requires constant emission of chakra while mentally maintaining the form. Of course, the user must be able to interact with the environment, otherwise the disguise is useless. This puts alot of mental strain on inexperienced ninja, but... I think we can handle it. For this event, not only must we get the jutsu correct, but..." Hisaki pulled a kunai from his pocket and threw it up into a nearby tree, "We must also be able to run up the tree and grab the kunai, showing that we can interact as well as imitate."

"For this trial, we will be taking the form of our beloved..." Hisaki looked at the crowd, and for the first time noticed two of his sensei's where enjoying the struggle behind the students, "Raito Sensei?!" The teacher jumped over the crowd up to Hisaki.

"Sure! I'll be your target for transformation! Come on guys, I know you can do this," He gave them both a thumbs up before leaning up against a tree. Hisaki gulped as he faced Yuki, He was here the whole time? Has he figured out I have his scrolls?

"Hey Yuki, you ready for this?"
PostPosted: Thu Jun 03, 2010 9:57 am

Yuki guffawed at Hisaki's loss at the art of water walking, So without the Byakugan, he is just an average student! Or not so average, these techniques take students a lot longer than what we've been doing really.

The Yamanaka boy walked back to the edge of the pond as he heard Hisaki explain their next event to their audience. Yuki gasped along with the crowd when he heard he will have to fetch the kunai from the tree. He's making this one the most difficult, not only do we have to do the transformation right, we have to use the tree climbing jutsu to retrieve the kunai?! The boy didn't know whether to be angry, or even more determined to beat the Hyuuga punk.

However, he wasn't prepared to meet his sensei as his transformation target. "S-sensei?!" He stuttered, does this mean they were in trouble now? Who knows, he just needs to win.

Upon closer inspection, he noticed that Hisaki would have an easier time. Raito Sensei's hair is a darker color, and because of how lanky Yuki was, Hisaki had more of a build that matches the Sensei's than he did. On the other hand, Yuki has shown that he does pretty well when he needs to focus his chakra and also pays closer attention to detail.

"Fine, I'm ready!" Yuki shouted, making the hand seal for the Transformation Technique. He tried to put an image of the sensei's full body in his head, he really did not read up on how to perform the transformation technique since it was advanced for most of the academy.

"Transform!" Yuki shouted, hoping for the best. After the smoke cleared, he looked at his own reflection in the pond. His hair was short and spiky, like Raito Sensei, but it was Yamanaka Blond. He also didn't make his transformation taller, so he was still short like before. Other than that, his transformation wasn't that off, but his chakra reservoir was running low, he did not know if he would have enough for a second, more accurate transformation and to use the tree climbing jutsu.

Curiosity got the better of Yuki, he wondered how his opponent was doing with his transformation, or rather, how ridiculous it was looking.

Hisaki looked up and down his sensei. The first thing he needed for this jutsu was the image of the person he was transforming into. He scanned up and down, eyeing every trait the professor had. Raito sensei had hair similair to Hisaki's but with more brown and less black. He was only slightly taller, as Hisaki was one of the tallest in the class. Additionally, he was only slightly bulkier, probably an illusion due to the flak jacket he wore, symbolizing his chuunin status.

Hisaki also concentrated on eye color. Because of his Hyuuga status, he really couldn't get away with his own eyes. He needed brown, just like sensei. The shoes were a must too. Hisaki wore black boots, not blue ninja shoes like Raito-sensei.

Full image in mind, Hisaki stepped over to the pond near Yuki. He performed the single handseal, and focused his chakra all over his body. "Transform!" he shouted. Blue energy whirled around him and with a poof of smoke, he changed... slightly... Instead of his usual clothes, he had the flak jacket, the right pants, and the right shoes. Hisaki couldn't help but note how comfortable they felt; must be a new style. Reconcentrating on the task at hand, he looked over his reflection. Everything was perfect, from the soles of his feet up until... the stomach?! From that point on, the flak jacket was a partial merge of his own black sleeveless tee. Hisaki's face was very much still the same, and the sensei's blue bandanna fused with Hisaki's jester hat to make a very strange hybrid of the two. On top of it all, Hisaki's eyes weren't white or brown, but rather an odd tan color; and each eye had a different shade of it.

With another seal, Hisaki disabled the jutsu, and went for round two. With another poof of smoke, he transformed, but this time, the result wasn't much better. While he fixed the misakes of the jacket and bandanna, the lower half of his body failed. Gone were the comfortable ninja boots and the blue chuunin pants and pouch, replaced with Hisaki's own clothes. Again, his face hadn't been fixed much, the hair was far too dark, and the eyes far too white. Hisaki cancelled again, and wiped the sweat from his face. With a grunt, he mumbled, "Damn... At this rate, I might run out of chakra. I wonder how Yuki's doin' on this..."

Hisaki's jaw dropped. Beside him was a short, blonde edition of Raito-sensei, accurate to every degree except those two traits. Hisaki grimaced, Come on! He can't beat me at this! He's just some weird nerd! He didn't even know a jutsu before this, and he's gaining the lead!
PostPosted: Thu Jun 03, 2010 6:57 pm

Yuki and Hisaki's eyes met, well actually, two twisted copies of Raito Sensei's eyes had met, and they both stared at each other for a moment. Yuki growled, they were both close to completing the final task, and the Yamanka is closer than his opponent! He broke eye contact and focused on the water with an image of his sensei in his head. He now had to make himself taller, and then change his hair color, both of them being just as tough.

"Transform!" Yuki grunted in Raito's voice. There was a poof of smoke and Raito Sensei was staring back at Yuki...but with blond hair. He looked towards the real Raito, and noticed that he was still too short, by at least a foot! This is ridiculous!

"Alright, I'll get it this time!" He mumbled as he made the appropriate hand seal. "Transform!" The usual barrage of smoke engulfed the young academy student, as he waved his hands around to clear his sight. When his vision was clear, he scanned the watery reflection.

Yuki threw his arms into the air and shouted in triumph. He had done it, his hair color had changed to his Sensei's! Although he wasn't sure on the height so he sprinted towards his sensei to only stare at him at eye level. The transformation was a success, now the only thing left to do was...retrieve the kunai from the tree!

He turned around and sprinted full speed towards the tree with the single kunai in it. Now, I need to focus chakra into my feet again. He repeated to himself much like he did when he had to master that jutsu. Yuki concentrated on the tree climbing jutsu as he approached to the tree, and much to his surprise, sprinted up the tree towards his target. The crowd was mumbling different things, they were barely audible to the eager Yamanka.

Running past the kunai, he grabbed it and used the momentum to swing his body around and skid to a full stop, while still standing on the tree. Yuki held the kunai up, as if it meant something. "I win." He said in a rather arrogant way. He walked back down the tree carefully, and dispelled his transformation technique, to show a very exhausted, but enthralled Yuki.

Hisaki tried twice more, each time having some fusion of himself and his target look, before he heard a yell from nearby. Hisaki canceled his technique and looked over to see a perfect replica of the sensei staring at himself in the water. A wave of cold washed over Hisaki as the copy ran over to do a height check. In the grimmest voice he'd ever heard himself say, he whispered, "He beat me..." The excited Xerox-sensei ran up to the tree and climbed it effortlessly, all the way up to the kunai. Then, from up in the tree, he said, "I win."

As the copy came down from the tree and dispelled the illusion, Hisaki stared hopelessly into the ground, thinking all the while, How did this shrimp... He's never shown himself to be this good in class... never seemed to have that much chakra... I don't... he didn't...cheat or trick... I... lose...
Hisaki shook his head as he heard the astonished murmering from the crowd. One kid; some stupid, snot-nosed kid Hisaki remembered as one of his haters; even went so far as to jump out from the crowd and shout, "Haha! You actually lost in something!" Hisaki did his best to resist the primal urge to just send a pulse of Gentle Fist style chakra right through the kid's ugly mug... Tempting as it was, giving another student a stroke was sure to get him at least a detention. Hisaki rose his head high. Even in defeat and scorn from the haters in the crowd, he couldn't... NO wouldn't let it affect his ego! He was still top dog around here! Gameface on!!!

"Well done Yuki! You've proven yourself to be a worthy opponent!" Hisaki walked over to the nerdy student and patted him on the back, "Well done indeed. We definitely gotta do something like this again, right buddy?"

Hisaki looked at the sensei hanging around nearby, I gotta make this as inconspicuous as possible. "Now, let me present the prize." Faces around the crowd grew tense in anticipation. Most of the crowd had no clue what the prize was at this point.

Hisaki pulled the green scroll from his pocket, "For our favorite note taker, we have a premium grade scroll! Note the fancy emerald trim and high quality parchment paper! With a beautiful wooden core at the center, this is absolutely one of the best you can buy! For you, Yuki. Use it well!" As he passed the scroll, Hisaki quickly whispered in his ear, "Don't worry, it does have a technique inside. Just talk to me after the group clears, ok?"
PostPosted: Fri Jun 04, 2010 8:37 pm

"Ha, thanks Hisaki!" Yuki replied cheerfully as the Hyuuga patted him on the back in recognition. "I wouldn't mind competing against you again, it was rather challenging."

The Yamanaka boy's face lit up like a rocket when he remember about the prize. One of the stolen scrolls from Raito Sensei! I almost forgot about it, I hope its a powerful jutsu! A smile broke out onto his face again, this time it was bigger than the last.

However, his excitement and anticipation had died down, along with his smile as Hisaki told him it was nothing but paper to take notes on. He almost made a fuss about it, until he told him what was really going on. "You do realize," Yuki whispered back, "If this is really one of our sensei's scrolls, he would recognize it?"

Reality hit him, what IF Raito Sensei saw what Hisaki passed along, does that mean his new toy would be taken away? Either way, Yuki quickly took the scroll and hid it out of sight as fast as he could as the crowd began to disperse. Every classmate, ninja, sensei, and townspeople began to walk off in different directions, going back to what they were doing before.

Yuki waved to people as they shouted congratulations and other fanfares. A few younger students ran up to him and gave him a high-five, or shook his hand before leaving. He could have sworn he saw a couple Sensei laugh manically as they left, which gave Yuki an ominous shudder.

"Alright," He began, now only a few stragglers meandering around, "So what do we do now?" He asked curiously as he retrieved his scroll from its previous hiding spot in his pocket.

Hisaki waited as everyone took their leave, taking a seat by the trees they had just battled over moments before. Hisaki pulled out the red scroll, and motioned Yuki to sit down, "Yes, that is the correct scroll by the way. Inside is some sort of Wind-Based jutsu I believe. Keep it safe until you decide to learn it, preferably until the end of the week. I plan of returning them soon. I don't want to get in big trouble, you know?"

Hisaki then smiled, "But for now, we enjoy Ramen." Hisaki pulled a separate scroll from his pants pocket and layed it on the ground. It was small and had a dull blue outside. The paper was lightly yellowed, and core looked like it was made with a chopstick. As he unrolled it, it was revealed that the dinky second scroll in his pocket was filled with some sort of sealing jutsu. Two circles of black symbols were apparent on the paper, and in the middle of the circle was a single black line. Hisaki licked both index fingers and swiped across these lines. In an instant of their blurring, they two circles imploded, then released a cloud of smoke. In their wake was a pair of covered porcelain bowls filled with delicious Ichiraku Ramen. Steam poured out from two holes on either side of the top, and a pair of un-snapped chopsticks balanced on the top each bowl set.

"This is a jutsu my Father came up with. It lets you seal things inside paper. Objects and stuff. He's a huge fan of Ichiraku, so he gave me this one day when he was trying to figure out how to keep the ramen hot even when it's sealed in a scroll. Obviously, he figured it out," Hisaki said with a friendly smile, "These are my last two you know. The other ones I had were used on days that the academy was serving something weird. Its like a hot cold-lunch; you know what I mean?"

Hisaki grabbed a pair of chopsticks, and pulled off the top of the dishes, letting a crisp steam come out. The steam carried the aroma of fresh, salty ramen, topped with an Broccoli-agreeing vegetable mix, Soy Sauce, and spiced beef. The dense smell made Hisaki's mouth water instantly. Just as he began to dig in, Hisaki said, "So, tell me a little about yourself. I really don't know about you considering you're such a shut-in during school."

"A thief that returns what he steals?" Yuki questioned with a smirk. He shook his head and followed the Hyuuga towards the tree, where he offered him some ramen. He watched as the mischievous student take a sealed scroll and released two bowls of Ichiraku ramen from it. Hesitating, Yuki took the unopened bowl of ramen and matching pair of chopsticks and placed it in his lap, where he stared at it for a moment.

"...Is this sanitary?" The blond asked, "It isn't poisoned or anything, right?" He stared at it for another minute, before taking the cover off of his own bowl and taking a bite. It tasted just fine! "Well that's surprising, it actually does not taste half bad." He mumbled with the noodles in his mouth.

Yuki finished what was in his mouth before giving Hisaki's question some thought. "About myself? Not much to know about me really. I'm from the Yamanka Clan, my mother runs one of the flower shops in town while my dad is..." He paused to take a bite of food. "A medical nin, although I dont know for how much longer. Hes always told me to study and do good in school, I guess that is why I spend so much time reading about jutsu and studying for class." Yuki blushed, Hisaki already knew how much of a nerd he was, why try and exemplify it? "Oh, I also like to play board games like Shogi and Chess. My father is trying to teach me chess! He said it was from another village far away and it's sorta like Shogi, but less complicated. Which is good, I guess, since I'm not good at Shogi yet."

Yuki took a couple more bites before continuing, "I want to be a smart shinobi when I grow up, I don't really want to do taijutsu, I'm not very good at it. My father wants me to become a medical ninja, and even allows me to read his books and scrolls about medical ninjutsu, but I don't really like to help people." Nice, now you sound like you're mean to everyone. "Well, I mean, people should learn from their own mistakes, not by having someone there to learn for you." He said quickly, embarrassed to say how heartless he really is.

"I apologize for rambling." Yuki slurped, finishing the last of his ramen, "I really am a nerd after all." He whispered more to himself than to Hisaki. A few sad thoughts crossed his mind before he turned to his recent rival, "And how are you like outside of school? Still as mischievous?" He asked, trying to get rid of the conversation about himself.

(Hidden in the Clouds)
"Damnit!"
Kyeth shouts aloud as he tumbles through the air landing roughly on his back. Lying there for a moment looking to the sky he holds a mighty roar of rage as he remembers his mother. Standing up again and turning to the cliff face rubbing his sore back Looking at the cliff Kyeth grimaced as he saw the bursts in the stone where he'd lost focus over his chakra and broke the surface of the wall. Breathing heavily and feeling sore; Kyeth prepared himself again. Then taking off in a swift sprint at the cliff Kyeth prepared himself mentally to try this jutsu again. Reaching the wall Kyeth continued his sprint upwards on it using his wall running technique. After seventy-five feet though he lost his focus and fell back to the ground. The only thing keeping him from severe injury from the falls was his clans blood power. This time when he hit the ground his hopes plummeted even further.
"Damnit..." he groaned allowed as he grabbed his hair pulling on it out of frustration, "I've been able to learn everything else so easily why can't I do something as simple as this?" He asks himself in a quiet voice. After a moment of self-pity Kyeth drug himself to his feet again turning back to the wall preparing for another go, but just before he started running he heard the bell ring for class to begin.
"s**t, s**t!" He shouts wildly as he darts around the clearing gathering his stuff before booking it for the school house. This would be the fifth time in the semester he would be late for class if he didn't hurry. As he ran through across the path towards the academy he couldn't believe how beautiful the village looked as the sun crested the mountain tops. The sunlight glittered in the clouds spawning hundreds of mini-rainbows across the village.
Forcing himself to focus on the path again though Kyeth pushed himself harder trying to get there before the second bell. Just before he reached the door though a bump snagged his foot and sent him sprawling to the ground. This time he didn't have a chance to activate his jutsu; as he skid across the ground the gravel and bricks that made the path embedded themselves into his skin in pin pricks of searing pain. Rolling over onto his back again and looked up to the sky regaining his composure once again now that he was among his peers.
"I'm sorry mom." He whispers under his breath as he forced himself into a sitting position. After sitting Kyeth stood, and after the initial vertigo from the fall wore off he looked at his smeared and bloodied clothing grimacing again.
"They won't like this at all." He says regretfully as he pushes open the door to the academy letting himself in just as the second bell rings.
"Great I made it to the academy on time but I'm still late for class."

(Hidden in Cloud)

Kuro sat there on the shore at the bottom of the mountain staring across the huge lake at the mountains at the other side of the lake. It was early morning, and extremely cloudy. Well thats the way things were in and around the village. Clouds, Clouds, and more Clouds. That never bothered Kuro though. He enjoyed the cloud cover, and enjoyed it even more when the dark thunderclouds rolled in.

"Well its about time to get started..," Kuro said under his breath. He stood up brushing his the little sand that was on the rocky beaches off his pants. Then he beagn to focus his charka like he had learned in the academy several years ago. He began to feel the energy flowing to his feet making it possible so he could attempt to cross the lake to the other side where the academy was. He walked up to the water's edge, and let out a sigh. Then, he took the first step out onto the water. The focused charka kept him afloat on the water. He took another step, and then another. It was going great. This was the first time Kuro had attempted to ever walk on the water. His sensei had talked about how to do it several times in class, but Kuro had never took the time to try it.
By now Kuro was about twenty yards away from the coast line. He turned back, and saw something on the coast. He lost his concentraion, and fell straight into the water.

He swam back all the way to the coast, and began coughing up the water that he had swallowed out of surprise when he fell into the lake. Kuro was upset with himself. He was doing fine until he turned around, saw that damn bird, and fell in. He layed there for about ten minutes, regaining his energy. By now he could see a couple rays of sunlight coming through the clouds. He would only get one more chance at walking on water, or he would have to walk all the way around the lake. Kuro definately didn't want to do that. This time he focused even harder. The charka flowed through his body even faster now since Kuro had a better idea at what he had to do. "I have to make it this time," he said to himself. He took the first step again. His foot stayed above again with the water underneath folding just like it was dry land.

Things were going great this time. By now Kuro was over halfway across the lake, and was going to make it to the academy extremely early. Kuro was extremely happy with himself. He had always caught on quick, but he was even better when it involved water around him. Then, he caught another bird out of the corner of his eye. Kuro lost his focus for a split second, but that split second was all it took. He crashed under the water again. He swam to the surface and yelled, "Damn Birds!" He looked at the coast. It would be a farther swim this time, but that didn't bother him. He was just mad at losing his focus again. Especially since it was because of a bird again. He was begin to believe that the birds were against him.

Kuro reached the opposite shore, more fatigued from this swim because it was much farther than his previous one. Once he recovered, Kuro began making the trek up the mountain side to the academy. The academy sat on the flat part of the mountain with only a twenty foot clear space on one side until the drop off. It was also a good sixty feet above the lake to Kuro's dismay. The trek was nice though. The day had barely began, and Kuro was feeling pretty proud of himself. He had almost mastered water walking in his opinion.

Once Kuro reached the academy, he thought it would be a good idea to sit out and air dry some since his clothes were still soaking wet from falling into the lake and swimming the rest of the way. He had a good hour before class began so he found a nice comfortable place outside the academy to sit down, relax, and dry off. Kuro always tried to conserve his energy since he always had a far walk to and from the academy everyday. He was so relaxed though that he actually fell asleep. Kuro woke up to the sound of the bell ringing, and the sight of his friend from class, Kyeth, running up the slope to the academy. Kyeth was late as usual.

(Hidden in the Clouds)
Kyeth now that he was in the academy made his way slowly and confidently to his home room. Without fear Kyeth opened the door gently and quietly and stepped inside. Bowing to his teacher and asking for pardon for his tardiness then he turned and walked across the room to his seat in the front of the room next to his longtime friend Kuro. He felt the eyes of all the other students bearing down on him. Smirking at his blood smeared clothes and snickering at the dirt caked on his back, but he'd be damned if he'd show how angry their little beady eyes made him. He was not a common ninja he'd not had a regular life; he knew that, but they didn't and he wasn't about to let then know that.
When he reached his seat he sat slowly and deliberately not for a second letting his serious composure wane. When teacher started up with class again he turned to Kuro whispering under his breath, "What'd I miss?"
He asked keeping his eyes straightforward he didn't need to give teacher another reason to give him any more demerits. Kyeth wasn't a bad student by any means he's was just so consumed in his training outside of class that he sometimes forgets about his training inside of class. To his teacher that reflected on a poor focus and lack of direction, but direction was the one thing in life Kyeth was not short on. For the past six years Kyeth had been excelling rapidly through the ranks of the academy hell bent on vengeance and retribution. He'd already come so far, but was no where near finished. For now though Kyeth just had to settle with whatever his teacher wronged him with. There wasn't anything he could do, but once he was finished with the academy he could go out on missions with his squad.
Momentarily lost in a romanticized daydream of the future Kyeth didn't notice that he had started falling asleep, but at the last moment caught himself. Then sitting up straighter Kyeth took the tin jagged rock he kept in his pocket and jabbed his thigh with it. He did this at least once a day in class. His training regiment left very little room for relaxation and rest so for the most part pain and adrenaline kept Kyeth moving and functioning. Kyeth thought this would be good pain training for when he finally got to go on missions. Because if he could stand the pain from jabbing a jagged rock a half inch deep into his leg then how much more painful could getting stabbed be? In his mind it couldn't be much worse at all; that's why he kept doing it at the bottom line. Looking up at the teacher now fully awake he gently took out his book and followed along with his teacher as he taught his lesson for the day.

Kuro stood there watching Kyeth running all out towards the school. "Come on man. You are calling it way too close again..," Kuro said to himself, as he turned around and headed into the academy. Kuro walked through the halls which were almost empty already. Once that bell rang it was a mad dash to the different classes. Kuro always stayed calm though. He knew he had plenty of time to slip in right before class started. Most of the time he even waited for Kyeth, but he couldn't today because Kyeth was so late.

Like all classrooms, this one was extremely boring. Almost everything was the same color, and if you look around the room it almost all blends together. Also the seats were paired in two, and were in neat rows. There is just something about schools, and straight rows. Kuro walked through these roads toward the back of the room. He never liked being up front with all those eyes staring at the back of his head. The seat next to him was still empty once class began. That seat was Kyeth's, who was late again.

The sensei had just began dronning on about something, and had already lost Kuro's attention when Kyeth walked into the room. Kyeth was covered in blood, and dirt already. Kuro thought to himself that Kyeth must have been out training this morning too. It was actually from Kyeth's determination to train that Kuro got the idea to start training in the mornings too. That was only when he could get his butt out of bed though. Kyeth slowly walked to the desk, and took his seat. Then he turned to Kuro, and asked what he all missed. Kuro said, "Not much actually. You just missed the beginning of a long sleeping session. Its nothing interesting yet... And by the way what were you doing this morning? You look terrible man." Kyeth didn't answer though. Kuro looked at him, and could tell that his friend was all ready phased out, and in a day dream. Kuro then decided that it prolly would be best if he payed attention. He was ready to be done with the academy.

Hisaki nodded as the boy went on about his interests and such. He couldn't help but pay attention as the guy talked about his interests in ninja arts. He understood how Yuki wouldn't want to be a med-nin. Medical ninja had to dodge and protect their companions. Not fun at all. However, it sounded like Yuki would like something long range. Genjutsu perhaps, or long range ninjutsu. Hisaki could respect that, not every ninja liked being on the front lines, "Don't apologize, I enjoy taking tabs on promising partners in the academy. I want to be placed on a good team you know? I'm not looking forward to any genjutsu myself. I prefer the prospect of ninjutsu, you know? Something... explosive and powerful. I do like Tai as well. Theres something really cool about going one-on-one and toe-to-toe with a powerful ninja."

Hisaki took a bite of soup, then continued, "I guess you could say I'm mischievous outside of school. My hobbies are screwing up kid's games of 'Ninja' and picking fights with other academy big shots. So far, I've never lost a single one! I mean, not if you count this contest."

* * *

Meanwhile, from across the field, Takeshi-sensei and Raito-sensei watched the two. Takeshi wore a bright mischievous grin across his face, while Raito seemed to be thinking deeply. Takeshi looked over at his friend, and noticed the pondering look, "Yo, you ready to do this?" Raito shook his head, "No. I'm calling it off. Look at them, before this, they were enemies. They never talked at school really, and if I ever saw them together, they argued or something. Look at them now. They're becoming friends." Takeshi sighed, "Yea, but what about those scrolls he stole. Don't you want to get him back or something? He's gotta be reprimanded somehow!"

Raito-sensei turned towards the academy and began his walk up towards it, "Hisaki and Yuki can learn the jutsu in those scrolls. They're nothing too dangerous for a young ninja. Just some low level fire and wind style jutsu. I wasn't even planning on keeping them, I was going to pass them off to the genin hall monitor tomorrow actually. No matter, I still have two more, the kid will be overjoyed anyways. These kids need alliances wherever they can get them. If those two get put into a team... This experience will prove beneficial to their group." Raito turned away from the disappointed Takeshi and walked up the hill towards the Academy grounds.
