...Well, that would be the cause for worry then. That blue was furious! What ought he to do? It didn't look like it was coming over here at the moment, but it might yet... Run away? It was fast, but ungainly, maybe he could keep clear of it or -

A low rumble from beside him distracted Fealty from his frantic planning; Dith had stepped in front of him and flared out his wings, his eyes brilliant white.

"If he comes this way, I'll look after us, he will not harm you!" He'd have the brute's throat if he had to... but then the blue Impressed, and Dith allowed his wings to drop again. "Well," he said to His, and the two 'traitor' bronzes plus their riders, "I don't think we've made a best friend for life in Lord Hissy Fit. He can't hurt Ours now, and if he tries anything on with us," the big brown stretched his large wings out once more before tucking them against his flanks, "I think you and me can take him, eh Tia?" Not a problem. This decided, he nudged his lifemate to resume feeding him. "Ignore the idiot, make with the meat," he added, just to clarify his point.

...All of that had happened pretty fast, but the crisis seemed to have been averated for now. As such, Fealty turned back to the meat and began passing chunks to his lifemate again... but he couldn't keep himself from glancing back at the blue every so often. "If he tries to hurt you," he informed his lifemate, "I'll punch him on the nose." Nobody hurt Dith and got away with it. Nobody.

Ghenza was going to make history with this clutch, and not because outsiders were Impressing their dragons left and right. What the harpers would sing of and, in time, the elderly would tell youth who had not bared witness, was this tale:

The Dark Green Egg and Light Green Egg shook. They hatched in sync, the first green knocking her egg over and smashing through the shell with her tail. The second, a near perfect match to the first, headbutted the side of her prison and freed herself.

They hissed at one another, born to be rivals, born to hate each other and born, it seemed, to be destined for the same rider.

The duo crashed into each other multiple times as they made their way to Laelin, each injuring a handful of people in the process. They stood before him and waited for him to reach out.

Would he choose the lighter among them?

Or would the darker Impress to this boy?

Tialzieth had cocked his head to the side and shifted to put himself in front of Hivex when the brown had hatched with white eyes and the furious blue had found his legs as he called them traitors. Traitors? For what? Mine is perfect. He replied, rather confused. All Mines were perfect... weren't they? He thought it was best to have Mine. In fact, he couldn't imagine not having Hivex. It was so cold and awful without him and the need had been so great... Hivexmine, you don't think I'm a Traitor, do you?

No, I don't. Hivex replied steadfastly, his hand on the bronze's shoulder once more as he regarded the angry blue. The dragons chose. That's what he'd come to know. They chose those best suited to them. Ghenza would have lost five dragons today, not one, if the High Reaches people had not been here. He snorted.

Tia turned to regard Dith when the brown spoke and bobbed his head, a draconic grin flashing bloodied teeth, We can, Dith. I won't let him near Mine. Yours is Yours and Mine is Mine, neither are traitors. We are not Traitors. He is just too angry. It seemed obvious for the young bronze. Being too-anything made you unable to think straight, or speak quietly as Hivex had so recently taught him.

Hivex noted Tia's conversation with the nearby brown and wandered over, still carrying a bucketful of meat and the herbal mix he'd been (grudgingly) handed. "Congratulations. This shows High Reaches is not unworthy of their attention." He spoke softly but his words were carefully chosen, implying much without saying many words.

Tialzieth nodded at that, nudging his brother. This will make a good story.

And then the greens hatched and both went surging over to one of the Ghenzan candidates. And both stood there before him. Hivex had never seen such a thing before, had never heard of it, and he blinked suddenly wondering what would happen. Apparently they wanted him to choose... but in choosing... what would happen to the other?

Oooooh my.

B'hec froze at the sound of angry screeching. The boy had only just gotten around to feeding his freckled dragon, the quiet blue's hunger finally getting the better of both the boys. Three hunks of meat down the gullet and the much darker blue had burst forth, making his presence known. The baker was distracted completely, all but dropping the slab of meat he held as he stared on, jaw dropping a little. Fortunately, Rayth was not the impatient type.

Mine? he asked cautiously, peering around B'hec's body. You like that blue better, don't you?

Grunting softly, the blond shook his head, reaching down to offer Rayth the bite of food. "No. No, not at all," he muttered, frowning a little as the blue made a spectacle of himself. "I like you much better, Rayth. I like you the best!" B'hec forced his eyes away from the terrifying dragonet and grabbed one of his blue's headknobs affectionately.

Rayth didn't seem terribly convinced and did not look away from his raging clutchmate. Everyone else is looking at him, the blue noted. They probably think he's a better blue.

B'hec frowned, shaking his head firmly. "No. No. They're only looking at him because he's making a spectacle of himself, like a small child throwing a temper tantrum. Just...just eat your food, Rayth, it will be fine. I think."

...don't look now, Rayth replied wryly, eyes whirling as he watched a pair of greens. They both wanted the same rider? Should somebody do something? he wondered aloud, glancing around at his clutchmates. He wouldn't, that was for sure! He wouldn't do it right!

Rinee was truly happy for each and everyone who impressed, like a child given all the toys in the world. He happiness was laced somewhat with fear for the more angry dragons. When they hatched, she held in her happy jumping and clapping in favor for a more worrisome expression, though she was certain as soon as they'd found theirs they would no longer be too much of a threat, right? her young mind hoped such.

Then the dark and light green eggs hatched together in perfect harmony. There was surely awe in young Rinee's eyes. Why then if they were so in synk did they start hissing at one another? Why did they seem to detest each other?
Well, why did anyone hate for that matter?

She watched as they went over to a boy. She knew his name started with an L but wouldn't really remember...curse her memory! What was going on? did he have to choose? If he could only choose one what would happen to the other?
Worry once again claimed Rinee's expression.

"High Reaches?" Dith cocked his head, and tried inexpertly to pick his lifemate's mind for the information he desired... a different place, far away, that was all he was really getting. "Little help?"

"...Of course," Fealty responded to Hivex distractedly as he tried to fill Dith in on the Weyr. Smaller dragons, dragons that forgot things, mountains, riders were treated different, and there was plague there or so everyone thought and... It was all a bit much to go on about for now, later he would explain more. This seemed to satisfy Dith, and so he turned his attention more towards the other candidate... the other rider. "I suppose they'll have to, umm, change what they..." And then he trailed off as he spotted the growing drama back on the sands. It looked like two greens were trying to look to the same person... That couldn't turn out well.

"I hope one of them will settle for a second choice," Dith murmured to his lifemate as he craned his long neck to get a better view of the scene, "we've already lost one sister today... I don't know if we can do anything Rayth," he went on to the freckled blue, "not other than wait and hope, anyway."

Ramsey had waited patiently and calmly when the green had appeared and betweened he did not run, he did not coware like some. As the browns and bronzes impressed in his opinion quite badly, the tall boy stood his ground waiting. He wasn't positive that he would be guaranteed impression, no one who stood on the stands was guaranteed to impress, but he felt confident. At least he didn't run or hide, and wasn't trampled by any of the hatchlings. He always figured he'd save his marks and try to buy a wher when the time came for him to stop trying, Whers could he used in his craft. He could haul and his father would be so prou-

His concentration was broken by the scream of TRAITORS! He felt extremely proud of this blue for hissing at the outsiders, the traitors, those that would weaken Ghenza.

Ramseymine!

Ramsey turned his head to regard the dark blue and he smiled, "Finally one that understands!" He stepped forward shoulders held back and head held high walking to -his-.

The blue pair walked toward the feeding area. Wait mine. The dark blue stopped his walk toward the feeder and turned toward his dame. Varianth bowed in a wobbling hatchling type of way to the large gold and then turned his attention to Ramsey. The pair did not pay any attention to the dark and light green, once...if they impressed Varianth would say hello, as long as they impressed to a Ghenzan.

Wilth had missed much of what was going on thanks in part to his head being smashed against Panata's torso, the boy's free arm moving now and then to rub the dragon's neck and try to reassure him. The pair had managed to move enough that a bucket of meat and the herbal medicine was also in the blond's possession, the Elder who gave it to the lad nearly killing him with a gaze.

"Come on, you need to back up a little from me so I can feed you. I can't protect you if you don't eat because I can't get to you properly."

The youth's words were strong enough and reassuring enough that the bronze moved his head back and allowed scraps of meat to be placed in his waiting jaws, the herbal medicine tossed in there for good measure. It was a quick and easy process, Panata doing everything he could to keep this thoughts level and for Wilth to stay calm at his fingertips. There was no need to mention the two Greens and one boy problem they had, or that angry blue.

There was just Panata and Wilth, and lots of calming.

Helios laughed just a bit. Kind of like twins those two were but not nearly as happy about that fact. He made sure to get out of the way as soon as those two started running over anyone in their path. Boy oh boy. Well maybe that should be Girl oh Girl...and when they both made their way to Laelin, he had to feel sorry for the lad. Not that he knew the guy but it was obvious that they wanted him to pick. That was really amazing at least in Helios' opinion. Not often did dragons let someone else make the choice. They usually just picked one person that felt right.

Could it be that this one guy felt right to both dragons? Ugh. That meant...well he didn't want to think about it but it might mean that the one not accepted would...go between. That part bothered Helios and only made him wonder why some dragons couldn't just settle on another person. But this wasn't something he'd find an answer to any time soon so he just looked on and waited while fidgeting just a bit on his herb stained tunic.

Just as Laelin had felt he was sinking more deeply into distress than he had any right to, as that angry little blue hatched and Impressed -- and then quite suddenly the sound of shells cracking in unison made him nearly jump out of his skin, turning his eyes to them. A pair of greens -- well, that had been right, everyone had expected those were greens, right? And that was another piece of gossip, right? He could totally tell other people he had guessed right --

Oh, oh no. Oh my. ... They were coming in his direction. Should he jump aside? Or should he? Even if one belonged to him, what should he do, with both of them looking expectantly at him? All this attention made Laelin want to shrink into himself, biting her lip and ducking his head a bit and trying to hide behind himself.

"I, I... two? Both of you are... why are you both looking at me that way," Laelin mumbled, tugging at the front of his tunic. "W-what am I supposed to do? They didn't tell me this could happen -- " It was hard, confronted with two pairs of bright eyes, to deny one and accept the other, and as they had come at the same time, he felt that it was cruel and unfair...

... But he had to choose, and drawing a deep breath, he closed his eyes tightly. Choices had never been Laelin's strong point, and so, with his heart thundering hard in his chest and his shoulders drawing up in a near-panic, he reached out with one hand, whispering a desperate I'm sorry to the other little green who was looking at him so patiently.

And let his hand fall where it would, pointing at the darker-winged of the two greens, when he'd finally opened his eyes, hope shining in their depths. Please, he thought, be right for me... And don't let your sister go between because of me...!

Rinee bit her lip and held her hands close to her chest as she prayed that once the boy chose one of the two that the unchosen one would not go between. She'd never heard of two dragons choosing one person before...she was pretty sure if she had, she'd certainly remember THAT. Okay, maybe not, but it still didn;t stop her from praying...

It seemed as though the boy with two dragons had made his choice, a choice which Panata did not envy him in the very least. Perhaps before it had happened there hadn't been a connection with either dragon, so he wouldn't feel like a third of his heart was being yanked away? He didn't want to think about such things, and the Bronze that nudged him with its head clearly didn't approve of such thoughts either.

They'll be okay, don't worry about them. They're big and strong and can take of themselves, so don't worry at all.

While it may have sounded like he was trying to cheer Panata up what Wilth was really doing was trying to keep his attention focused. He couldn't be watched carefully or fed carefully if His was distracted!

Jetta was just damn lucky the hatching here wasn't a event that required formal dress. He had been rather out of the way gathering the herbs he needed for the various potions and medicines needed, no doubt his fathers idea to once again try and split the boys up and keep them from causing to much mischief. But he would always take the outdoor jobs and the hard treks over be stuck in that house any day of the turn. He would only hurry back for Helios' sake and of course he didn't want to herbs to wither before they could be dried and preserved in the correct methods to get the maximum use out of them. He was crouched in a hollow try trying to dig a small green fern out of the rotten wood when the humming started.

Jumping up in surprise he smacked his head against the tree branch that spread out above him and yelped, feeling a hot trickle of blood run down the side of his face from the large scratch the vindictive plat left above his right eye. It obviously didn't like its relatives being dug up. Ugh. He whipped the blood from his eye and spun around, setting off towards the sands at a run, covered head to foot in dirt and leaflitter from his chore and now bloody as well. He was already making a fine start out of this hatching and he wasn't even there.

Undoubtedly he was late, but he would be forgiven when he gave over the rare treasure of selective plants that were still safely tucked away in his pack. He pushed his way forward just in time to see the cowardly bronze impress, the whole thing rather amusing but he was twined by enough compassion to be thankful when the frightened baby was rescued by its chosen. Seemed the hatching so far had been quite eventful.

The first hatchling had been a green that went between. From what he could hear it had been a bad omen to start this hatchling that fitted it perfectly. From what he understood many considered there to only be a few dragons of worth in this hatching altogether, but to him that was ridiculous, he looked over to the meat stand and saw fine healthy dragonets. Even if they were with high reaches riders.

As the next few dragons hatched he tried to wriggle his way through the crowd to find his twin without disturbing anyone. It took more time than he would have liked but he succeeded in avoiding stepping on anyones toes. A good thing with the current atmosphere that hung heavy around some of the people in the Ghenza crowd.

When he reached his twin at last it was just as another set of twins almost identical as the boys themselves hatched. Grinning he draped his arms around his twins shoulders leaning in against his back. "Surprise, I made it. Ohhh twins, just like us." he whispered softly with a grin, which faltered when the two both went to one boy as if asking him to choose. That was unheard of, and surly not a good thing for the one that wasn't selected. Would it go between like the first? He sighed and his arms slid further round Helios in an odd backward hug.

Crack! Two little greens broke free at exactly the same moment and charged out across the sands. The atmosphere between them was electric. They tore through the crowd, heedless of the chaos they were causing. It was funny how it seemed to be the littlest of the dragon kinds who were causing the most harm, Koriander mused as she inspected the wake left behind the pair. They stormed up to a boy, pushing and shoving each other to get their first. "By the shards..." she murdered as she watched, Koriander could hardly claim to be a expert on dragons but from what she had read she was pretty sure that the forsaken green would probably go between. It would be such a shame for another dragon from this clutch to be lost. Come on, she thought, you’re above that. Don’t do it.

When choosing where to stand while feeding his new lifemate, Sh'en naturally gravitated toward B'hec's side. It wasn't that he disliked the outsiders. Not exactly, anyway, though they'd sure gone down in his estimation since impressing Ghenzan dragons. He just, wanted to be near his own kind. And Bajenth sure didn't mind, happy to be close to Rayth, who was just ideal for a new friend. Wilth could wait until their weren't others around sharing in attempts to care for the bronze.

The events of the hatching, first the furious blue (who Sh'en couldn't help but half agree with) then the duel greens were enough to distract Sh'en from his feeding techniques, slowing him down and leaving Bajenth testy. He was, after all, supposed to be the center of Sh'en's world.

Sh'enmine you are slow. Look at you, you are slower than any of the other riders. You're lucky I'm so patient with you. The other dragons wouldn't be nearly so. But I forgive you. Even though I am very hungry, and I am your lifemate, and you are watching the sands instead of caring for me. It isn't as if your very good at caring for anything. So I know I can expect to be neglected, but still, I chose you. The dragon delivered the scolding in warm honeyed tones, butting Sh'en in the leg and looking sweet and innocent and oh so hungry.

Sh'en felt his stomach drop. He was a horrible person. He'd always known that. He'd known that he'd be bad at this. Hadn't he said that he'd be bad at this? And poor Bajenth was starving just because he was lazily watching the sands when he was supposed to be feeding the bronze. Immediately, he tore his attention away from the pair of greens and the now seemingly less furious blue.

"I'm sorry. Oh, Bajenth. I'm terrible. I know. I'll try harder. I'll do better. Here, eat these, I didn't mean it."

Content that he was getting his due, Bajenth relaxed. There, you're doing much better. You do just fine, when I'm there to look after you. You just need a little help is all.

Rayth, is yours feeding you alright? You are very small. You will choke if you try to eat big pieces. I will tell yours for you, don't worry. Do not worry about the greens either. We must wait. Then, to B'hec. Be careful with Rayth, do not go too fast, or give him big pieces. I know you are doing your best, but Rayth needs a lot of attention. I will help you with him.
