Konaga Shinji
Iwagakure| Konaga Clan | Genin

With his speed, Shinji arrived at the springs in no time, pushing open the door which was the entrance as he watched several women walk past, talking and giggling as it appeared that they had just left the springs. Turning around slightly to take another look as they passed, he found that two of the girls had also turned to look at him once more as he flashed a grin only to illicit a few whispered giggles as they exited the establishment. "I had almsot forgotten what is what like to be around women, it's good to be back in the village." Walking up to the desk, Shinji slammed his hand on the bell at the counter as it made a large DING, scaring the man who was behind the counter who also seemed to be the manager. "Hey now there boy, no need for that. I'm right here. How can I help you?" With a bit of a smile to the man's reaction, Shinji answered confidently... "I saw that you had posted a need for a Genin... well, here I am, ready to go. Whatcha got for me?" Though slightly disturbed that the young by was to be his help, he did not quite a bit of work done around the springs, so there was no short list of what needed doing. "Well, the fence posts out back have been showing some rickety spots. why just the other day, a client said that she had leaned on them and had darn near almost fell through the other side. I think I have some nails and a hammer in one of the back rooms. Perhaps you could help me out by patching up a few rickety spots."
[Mission: Help around the Hot Springs 1/3]

Saluting with an almost mocking tone behind it, Shinji made his way to one of the back rooms, not really being sure which one it was as none of the rooms were labeled or anything. Shinji slid one of the doors open wide to look in, but was met with a quick shriek from a young woman as he found himself soon slamming the door back shut again..."Oh god... I'm so sorry, I was just looking for a nail, I mean a HAMMER... a Hammer... sorry!" Mortified with embarrassment, Shinji moved on quickly to the next door, shielding his eyes preemptively as he slide the door open, but this time hearing no screams, he dared to peek his eyes open, finding a hammer and some nails strewn about the room as he grabbed them hurriedly and left the scene. Making his way through the men's changing room, Shinji found his way out to the mixed springs, noticing that it was a somewhat slow time of the day, when not many people were present. Looking to rid his mind of the guilt of the accidental run-in, Shinji set himself straight to work as he began examining the boards, pushing on them here and there to see which ones were loose and in need of repair.
[Mission: Help around the Hot Springs 2/3]

Making his way around the springs, Shinji would push on a board to see if it was sturdy, or if it moved at all. Most of the boards were in tact and showed no weakness, but a few here and there showed some movement, in which case he would take a few nails, carefully positioning them as he hammered them into the adjacent boards, checking his work as he tried to shake the loose boards again. Noting his success, he continued this process around the entire area, working diligently for about an hour until all of the boards were fixed to his satisfaction. His job now finished, Shinji turned around to leave, but found himself suddenly confronted by a band of women, all of them looking rather angry. "Ummm, well, hello ladies...heh... what seems to be the problem? Did I miss a board?" ..."Don't play stupid with us, we heard about what you did, and you should be ashamed of yourself for peeping!" ... "Peeping?" Shinji said with amazement in his voice, "What the hell are you talking about?... this is a mixed springs. What's there to peep on?" Just as he said the words however, he finally realized who the girl hiding behind one of the other girls was as he had met her acquaintance so to speak not so long ago. "Hey, hey... that was an accident! How was I supposed to know she was getting changed in a back room? I was just looking for a nail... I mean Hammer!"
[Mission: Help around the Hot Springs 3/3]

His words apparently not convincing the lead woman, Shinji soon found himself just barely dodging an attempted slap across his face as the woman's nail's just barely caught and tore a strand of hair from his head. Thinking quickly, Shinji flashed through a few hand seals gathering his chakra as he made his escape, "Doton: Tsuchi Gunjikoudou no Jutsu". As the next slap attempt came, Shinji was already sinking into the ground, fully submerged into the stone walkway around the structure as he safely swam to the other side of the springs, re-emerging out of the ground in the men's changing room as he hastily ran to the front desk. Slamming the hammer on the desk, Shinji hurried out of the establishment, screaming a hurried "The fence is all fixed! thanks! See you later!" before disappearing out the door, running to his next mission in the hopes that quite some time would pass before he saw those girls again.

Arriving at the springs in no time at all, Shinji pushed the door to the entrance open, wondering what else this place could possibly hold for him in the day. It couldn't have been more then 5 or 6 hours ago that Shinji had found himself on his first mission at the spring, and now he found himself back once more. Checking at the counter, he didn't see the owner until he saw the man come out of the back rooms just as Shinji was about to go check on the springs. "Ah, good morning Young Genin, back so soon, perhaps now for a dip in the springs after a long day's training no doubt?" the man's tone was inviting and sincere, allowing Shinji to turn to him with an amused smile as he figured he would have had to ask this at some point regardless.

"Actually, the training continues." Shinji stated plainly as he moved up to the front counter to lean on it with one arm, "Akira-sensei asked me to come here so that we could do some training on the waters. He wants to teach me the water walking technique and this was the easiest and closest source of water that we could think of. Would that be alright with you>?"

"Sure, sure..." the owner said with a bit of a laugh...'Happens all the time I tell ya! What good is a hot springs that can't help it's ninja learn their essential skills! that's what I always say, just try to choose a spot off in the corner if you could. Not too many clients at the moment, but it's getting to be a busy hour. I'm sure you and your sensei understand however... I've got a business to run here ya know?"

"Of course, I understand. Thanks Old man!' Shinji pushed himself off the counter as the owner laughed at Shinji's last comment warm-heartedly, returning to his work in the backroom as he left Shinji to wait for his sensei's arrival.

Akira strolled into the Hot Springs foyer and spotted Shinji almost instantly, the boy seemed eager and slightly hyper. Akira reflected briefly on the joys of that age , but quickly dismissed the thoughts; reflection was important but obsession over lost time only lead to distress.

"Shinji, I'm heading in, if you haven't already, check we're okay to train in the springs"

He gave the youth a small wave as he strolled past into the locker rooms without waiting for Shinji's response. Akira didn't see the point in undressing or changing; it would just complicate the training process. Stepping out into the actual bathing area, a few people cast odd looks at him, Akira gave them a small wave without looking at them as he channeled chakra into his feet.

The flats of his feet sparked to life with a purple glow as he stepped out onto the hot water of the springs and made his way to a corner of the spring. Water walking training forced ninja to learn to accommodate to various and sometimes conflicting forces, however should that water be hot; the ninja is then taught focus in endurance and is punished for losing focus.

Akira found this method slightly barbaric, and thus it made him a little uncomfortable, however, the results were undeniable. It was a flimsy rationale to counter his moral objections, but then as he always did, he reminded himself of the life he'd lived. Part of his job description was that "he could kill on command", and so there wasn't much use in trying to make himself righteous. Though sometimes, like in this instance, he tried to remember, at least, some notion of grace and care.

Immediately following on Akira's heels as he walked in, Shinji accompanied him through the locker room without even thinking about what it meant that they weren't stopping to change. He hadn't been here that long ago and had done exactly this same thing, so it wasn't so strange to him. It felt strange however to be walking behind another, his teacher, his new sensei, following him as a student would, watching his every move carefully as Akira waved at the others almost casually. Shinji wasn't sure if it was because he knew them, or h was just being polite, but it didn't matter much as Shinji followed in the wake of the man, looking up to the level of ability he had already reached as he watched him effortlessly walk out over the water to the corner of the springs.

Not yet being able to follow him, though this was the purpose of their being here, Shinji walked around the side of the spring to meet Akira at the corner and await his instruction. Watching the man's feet, it looked almost the same as when he had scaled the rock, but Shinji imagined that as water was completely different in every way then rock, and constantly moving and shifting, that this would be much harder to accomplish. As that thought occurred to him, suddenly the cost of error entered into his mind as well as he grew slightly nervous to even take his first step onto the water when instructed to do so. One false step or failed attempt meant not only embarrassment with the others around, but would also carry a price tag of becoming completely soaked.

Perhaps what would be strange to others was that he did not fear the heat of the water on such an entry, but any Konaga would react in the same way. Over their years of agony, and the havoc their chakra waged on their bodies, a Konaga's skin was deadened and numb to many sensory perceptions. Both a blessing and a curse, Konaga could push themselves further then most and had good battle endurance as the pain and agony of their bloodline most of the time overwrote any physical pain their body might feel due to injury... but at the same time, to not feel a touch, to enjoy an embrace, or any stimulatory effect of the skin could be interpreted as torture of another kind, especially when the hormones of youth raged all the same despite the numbing. Though hot springs were still hot enough to provide some relief to a Konaga, even amidst their pain, it was not as troubling to Shinji if he were to fall in as all of the added weight would be, or the care that he would have to take dry all of his clothes out. All of that aside however, Shinji was ready to face any challenge and go to any lengths to become more powerful, and so with a new energy form that reminder to himself, he was ready to go... "I'm ready sensei... let's do this!"

Akira watched Shinji as he circled round the spring to meet him in the corner, noticing that he did not even attempt to follow Akira on the water. The colour slowly left Akira's eyes as his face became blank, the muscles in the rest of his body relaxing too.

"You feared being unable to do it. Fear is natural, caution is a virtue but hesitation is folly." stated Akira quite plainly as he raised his hand and configured it into the same shape he used for the Wall-walking.

"Rock and wall are for the most part, static, water is transitory, it's shape and force is determined by what surrounds and is encased in it. It can be solid or it can be elusive, it can be wild or silent."

Akira moved forward across the water to the edge of the spring and stretched out his hand to Shinji, wanting the boy to grab a hold of it.

"The chakra used for walking on walls, spread it thinner, it must be malleable, and it must flow from you and with the water. If you understand, then walk with me to the corner. When you have the confidence to walk on your own, let go of my hand"

"Whoa, whoa, whoa Sensei... let's get one thing straight here, I didn't FEAR anything. Sure, yeah I could have stepped onto the water without having any assistance or advice given, but what would be the point? Hell, I could do that on my own. Since you're here though, I figured that you would want to instruct me prior to my attempt as you did before. There was no fear involved at all, and hesitation is quite my thing either." What Shinji had said was true in most regards. He did have a fear of simply stepping out onto the surface at first, but that wasn't the reason why he went around after seeing his sensei walk on the water. what would have been the point id Shinji simply jumped on the water' surface without some kind of advice from his teacher.

After all of that said, Shinji quickly took the offered hand before Akira had a chance to remove the it, afraid that his words might have possibly caused him to become and indignant and insist Shinji do it on his own. Channeling his chakra to the soles of his feet as he had done before, Shinji did as he was told and made it thinner then he had with the wall climbing, and tried to keep an open mind on how he would need to fluctuate the chakra pushed out to compensate for the water's fluid and transitory nature. Taking a careful step out first, Shinji gained a false sense of confidence as his first initial step was solidly placed. As he went to lift his other leg up and out over the springs however, he felt the foot which was on water quickly sink beneath the surface, causing Shinji to lean heavily on his sensei's arm.

Shinji was certainly a confident and active boy, Akira recognized this and it was certainly an interesting aspect of the youth. He wasn't sure why he was intrigued but he was; the mind often had a knack of getting hooked on the simplest or most inane of things.

Akira wrapped his fingers around Shinji's hand firmly, making sure he wouldn't lose his grip in any circumstance. The boy's hand was warm, a given considering the location and that he was in fact; alive. Regardless of how useless this information seemed to most, Akira's brain dutifully stored it away should he ever need such details for future reference.

His eyes were plastered to Shinji as the boy attempted this technique, and immediately reacted as the boy's foot fell through the surface of the water. Akira held the boy suspended in this state of transit between two surfaces, the water beneath his own feet rippling slightly as he did so.

"Tiring, perhaps some Taijutsu training will increase my strength." stated Akira to no one particular as he attempted to lift Shinji just enough for the boy to either step fully back onto land or attempt to get his footing on the water once more.

"The chakra is thinner because too much will break the water under us, thus why we can fall through even with chakra channeling; it's not all weight related. However, too thin and you should not even both channeling chakra, as with all things, balance is important. In this instance there must be balance within the chakra and the body and between the chakra, body and water. The water invites you to work with it, not master or tame it, but work with it, as someone with talent it is your responsibility to respond""

[Conditions = Bloodline (-3) , Teacher (-1)]

Pleased that his sensei had decided to hold him up rather then allow him to fall into the hot springs, Shinji was quick to use his teacher's strong arm to stabilize himself and bring his feet back to solid ground. Shinji then listened intently to his teaching, absorbing the words and applying them to his technique as he went through it all in his mind. Part of Shinji was always working in this way when he was taught, actively taking what was said and playing it through in his mind, fabricating the scene as one would a scripted play, creating a fully immersive world of thought. He pictured his chakra flow, and watched it become thin, then, adding just slightly more to it, he visualized himself taking his step out onto the water, allowing his chakra to work with and balance against it as he was finally able to stand.
[Training: Suimen Hokou no Gyou (2/3)]

It had of course, all been in his mind up to this point, the entire scenario occurring in only a few second's thought as Shinji steeled his resolve to try once more. focusing his chakra, Shinji created a thin layer of chakra on the soles of his feet once more, but this time, made it slightly thicker then the previous attempt. Taking a careful first step on the water, Shinji could already feel the difference as he felt the water fluctuate below his feet, but not give way. Shinji responded reciprocally to the water as well, allowing him to lean forward once more and keep his solid footing. Delighted, though not getting ahead of himself, Shinji brought his other leg to the water's surface, repeating the action before smiling with joy at the accomplishment. He was now standing on top if the water, only a few ripples being the evidence of his presence atop it.
[Training: Suimen Hokou no Gyou (3/3)]

In a brave move, he removed his grip from his sensei's arm, fluctuating and compensating for the water's ever-moving structure as he ventured forth on his own, taking a few steps carefully at first, but then gaining more and more confidence as he felt his legs growing more stable. Soon, Shinji felt almost natural to be standing on the water's surface, as he even jumped up off the water's surface and landed firmly, balancing the necessary forces as he hit the water's surface as if it were solid ground. "Hey, how about that Akira-sensei! Not so bad for a second try, would you say?! You are truly a great teacher!"

Akira watched Shinji make the best of what he had imparted to him the boy confirming the potential that Akira had thought he'd seen in him. As Shiniji let go of Akira, the Jounin saw that he had not only confidence in his skills but was willing to demonstrate said skills in light of that confidence.

Akira clapped his hands softly as the youth jumped and landed successfully on the water, a tilting of his head to the right equating to a smile while he was operating in this mind frame.

"It is obviously not bad, it is good, but I am not a great teacher. I do not hold a sufficient rank to be considered 'great', I simply told you what you needed to know. Rather you are an intelligent and perceptive student who knows how to follow instructions."

Akira moved towards Shinji calmly, with an emotionless but very evident grace, almost floating just above the water's surface. He came to the boy and placed a hand on his shoulder, narrowing his eyes to study him once more.

"I am afraid, however, that I do not think there is much more I can teach you at this time. Unless you received insufficient education in some other area of life that you think I could assist with?" questioned Akira, he was sure he could find some nugget of advice should Shinji pursue this, though he was mindful of the time.

"That's alright sensei." Shinji said with a smile on his face after receiving such a compliment. He was truly grateful that his new teacher was willing to continue training him, but he was right in that he would not be able to teach him much more that he could use in the meantime. "You've done a lot in just teaching me these two techniques, and besides that, I really do need to rest for the day as I said earlier." Even as he said the words his arm began to burn once more, even so many hours after it's use and his body sent a wave of a pain through his system, almost as a reminder of what would come if he were to continue. "Yeah, yeah... I hear you. Stupid Body..."

The pain was nothing compared to the other day, and the adrenaline from his constant focus on the water walking technique was helping him keep it at bay. For anyone else to experience what he was at the moment, they would be inoperable, but for a Konaga, Agony was a lifelong feeling, and their bodies had adjusted in more ways then they knew to allow them to cope with and operate under the condition. "But hey, maybe you CAN still help me! If I'm going to qualify for the Chuunin exams, I need to run at least one C-rank mission. However, if I were to run a few with you, I would be leagues closer to accomplishing that goal and would probably still be able to get my last bit of training in as well. What do you say sensei? would you be willing to take me on a C-rank mission or two? Just 2 of them, would be like accomplishing 4 D-rank missions on my own. I'm sure that with you around, I could accomplish anything on the mission with ease."

"While you are skilled, it would be better for you if I were to assist you on a mission of that level. Since you are in need of rest, perhaps I shall train on my own and when you're rested you can come and find me, I am not that difficult to find and I do not move around too much. Unless you think rest can wait for after the mission?"

Akira walked to the edge of the water and stepped onto dry land, as he did the chakra on the bottom of his feet dissipated into nothingness and Akira turned to face Shinji once more.

Akira couldn't forget that he too needed to train at some point, and make sure he was useful to both the ninja below and above him. He was seriously lacking in Taijutsu and Genjutsu, his lack of efficiency in the melee arts more worrying given his less than spectacular close combat skills. While he excelled in Ninjutsu he could stand to learn more and it might be prudent for him to acquire some sort of weaponry as well.

While he had the skills and knowledge to instruct other ninja, as it stood now, he wouldn't be too useful in full-on combat with a ninja of equal or greater skill and rank.

"Well, I appreciate the kind words sensei, but i think it would still be best if I rested. if I'm going to leave on my first C-rank mission, then I should be at full strength. I will find you as soon as I have rested to my satisfaction." Without having much more to say, Shinji began to walk away, still walking on top of the water's surface as his body ached for him to get home an meditate. Then, as if suddenly remembering that he had forgotten something, he turned around to his sensei once more...

"...and thank You for everything. I appreciate that you have given so freely of your time. It is an honor." Remembering his manners, even if he hated displaying them, Shinji gave a respectful bow before walking out of the springs on the way to his residence in order to meditate.
