"Denial, Kesslan," Uuni restated again. "You're the one who's breathing down my neck."

Lack of modesty was right. Uuni was speaking plenty loud enough for half the Weyr to hear. Maybe she should shout, so the other half could hear it, too.

"Just keep your dirty words like "love" and "denial" away from my ear." She took a deep breath and pondered this over.

"We should buy Avery a dress. She'd look good in a dress. I bet she'd draw in men like little magnets to a big magnet." It was the brilliance only a drunk person could possess.

K'lan's mouth and nose had indeed moved until they were brushing against the bared part of the older girl's neck, her laughter causing the so-called breathing-on-neck issue. "Mmmhm, you'll never hear such slander from me again, sunshine."

As for Avery, the blonde shifted again, getting comfortable in what was slowly evolving into an embrace, and let out a quick laugh. "Avery looks stunning in her dresses, though I doubt she'd think we had good enough taste between the two of us to choose one for her." It was an interesting thought, that Uuni hadn't spent enough time with the sassy girl to see her in a dress. Then again, Uuni tended to avoid anything of emotional import, such as social gatherings with family.

The word 'sunshine' wasn't one she'd heard in a long time. Long time being years. How many was it now? Five? She'd seen it once, last year in a letter.

Katrina hadn't written anything in that one, and neither had her father. But Majbritt, always, always made sure to keep writing. It made her sick; it was like she was politics.

"Don't call me sunshine," she corrected Kesslan and quieted, sighing and leaning into the embrace. "Or I'll have Makereth move your bed outside in the cold while you're sleeping."

"When we get out, we'll get her a dress." It went on like this for hours. Highs and lows were the main factor of Uuni's personality - fluctuation was crammed into candlemarks instead of sevendays.

She'd always make sure to stop Kesslan before it got too personal, but it was halfhearted, and she was clearly searching for something to hold onto. Stress never really went away no matter how drunk you were. She went with any topic Kesslan wanted to talk over, denying some things, and overexaggerating others, and underneath it all was the hope that this would all blow over as nothing and she could go back to the simplicities of life.

Rieta gave a little jumping shudder at the unexpected weight of a hand on her shoulder. Not usually one to be easily startled, she was currently out of sorts to such an extent that someone approaching slowly and directly in her line of vision may very well have made her tense.

But it was Ra'ffer talking and, even if it was mostly do to Awunrayth's fondness for Kalth, Rieta liked to at least pretend at a friendship between them. She had not bonded well with her classmates, fluctuating as she did between over familiar when Awunrayth was sleeping and over cautious when the green was awake to monitor and advise. Still, she smiled at him, a fragile, desperate sort of smile and was obviously relieved at his presence.

"Yes. I mean, no. That is, please sit." Her voice, whispering at first, gained a bit of strength as she spoke. "Thank your Kalth for me, won't you?" A weak, guilty smile, "Awunrayth isn't used to my being--" A short, dismissive wave of her hand, "Foolish, like this."

You are not foolish, Rietamine. Kalth's presence was clearly a comfort to the green. Though her eyes still whirled with anxious colors the speed and intensity were not so great. And to Kalth, with warm appreciation and utter faith, Mine will be fine now Yours is there.

Though the shaking was much lessening, it would be difficult to say Rieta was back to her old self. Almost without meaning to, she let her gaze move briefly to the high table, then back again, "Do you think he'll be alright?"

When Kesslan came over, Amelia had nodded a greeting and then fallen silent, watching the pair... 'converse'. As far as the goldrider was concerned it looked like the two might have been lovers at one point, what with how close they were getting. It made her uncomfortable, not because she disapproved of same sex relationships (it was hard to when you grew up in the Weyr) but because she wasn't up front for such displays.

Rising eventually, she patted Uuni on the shoulder and smiled, "Your girlfriends seems to be better at calming you down then I am. Sorry about that. If you still want that flask of drink later on, tell me when you get a chance. For now, though, I think I ought to go check on everyone and find Luci." Clearing her throat, she nodded her farewell to the pair, "It was nice meeting you K'lan."

She glanced back as she walked away, glad to see Uuni calmer... even if there was a spike of jealousy that wormed its way into the back of her mind. Even if they weren't lovers, they were certainly closer friends then she and Uuni were. It was frustrating to know she didn't really have any close friends like that, not since she Impressed as she couldn't see her childhood friends nearly as much, and for that reason she envied Uuni. It got lonely, sometimes, when you were expected to lead. Everybody just wanted something of you.

Outside, Sharath's rumbling increased at the troubled thoughts she sensed of Amelia. It was an uncertainty they'd come to share and it made her toss her head in agitation, It is better safe then sorry. But Mine is upset... I hate it when Amelia is upset. This should be over... She reached out, then, to brush her mind against her rider's and queried about her status and that of the gathering's.

I'm okay, Sharath. Uuni's just found... a lover, I think. She's more relaxed now. I just wish I had a friend. They're all in the mines and caverns, though. She sighed obviously and shrugged, The gathering's just as nervous as before. Hopefully it'll be over soon.

A'ram had done all that he planned to do. At least for the evening. Although he was by no means drunk, he had had more wine than usual in keeping with the generally convivial atmosphere of the feast, and that combined with the late hour and his age made him highly susceptible to sleep. Stifling a yawn, he made his way to an abandoned seat - blissfully a chair and not a bench - and sank into it with a number of creaking bones.

Are you going to sleep? Rath asked. If you are, I thought I might do the same. There is nothing I can do for the moment, and I am tired.

A'ram's eyes were closing as he answered his dragon, Go to sleep. I will be doing the same, and trying not to die from the shame of falling asleep in a public place like some disgraceful old uncle.

You have every right to sleep. So do I, Rath assured his bond, but by the time he finished speaking A'ram was already unconscious.

The Igen native had secretly been practicing the arts of narcolepsy so that when someone became too boring he could play the Old Man card and just fall asleep on them. In the culture he was raised in, it was only in old age that a man could truly relax and be relieved of some of his duties, and now that B'shir and his dragon were practically on a wing, he had fewer duties to concern himself over. He just had to see them well-placed and then he could truly retire.
