Tofir smiled broadly. He loved it when people agreed to help him with his research. Sometimes he still had to chase them down and remind them that they'd agreed to help him, but he wasn't afraid to do that. His research was important, shardit! There was a slim possibility that he could change the way Weyrs found candidates. They might even be able to remove the dragon element from Searches. Not that the dragons didn't do a good job, but there were always so many people Searched who never found their dragons. He was sure there was a way to make Searches more efficient.

"I have no problem sharing. Remember, I like to talk. Besides, I'll probably be dying to know by then if my experience was typical. I've never attended a Touching. I really hope I feel something." And now he sounded like an overexcited child, but for him this was better than gifts on his birthday. Research opportunities!

Tofir apologized for keeping Layla. Just because he was fortunate enough to enjoy an easier schedule than most candidates - more cerebral, less laborious - didn't mean everyone else had the same good fortune. Once more he was thankful for his unusual position in the Weyr, though in under a turn it would change again. He'd return to the Hall, walk the tables again, and come back as a full-fledged researcher, if all went according to plan.

"Of course. I have an office in the same corridor as the infirmary. You might mistake it for a broom closet. There's not really enough space for two people to be comfortable in there yet, though I'm working to clear up the mess. It used to be a filing closet, actually, but no one seems to have done any filing for the last twelve turns or so. So I'm trying to sort through that. Still." He rolled his eyes.

"Maybe it would be easier if I found you? I really would love to talk to you again, even without the incentive of doing research." He smiled. He'd have to thank his friends for being boors who didn't save him a seat.

"Sure," Layla smiled and nodded, "that would be fine. I'm usually assigned to working in the kitchens, the laundry, or cleaning out beast pens. Of course," she grinned, "if it's after working hours, you might need to grab a girl as she's about to go into our dorms and ask her to send me out to find you; the girls' dorm is far too scary and dangerous for a man to go in himself! You'd probably be torn apart in the crossfire of catty comments or something like that."

It was good to know that he was keen enough to talk again to offer to find her himself. Maybe all he wanted was help with his research but... well, it didn't sound like that to her; it sounded as if he would be as happy to obsess over the eggs as she was! The touching! She couldn't wait!

"I'll find you," he promised. And then added with an ominous eyebrow wiggle, "We have our ways."

His eyebrows rose. Actually, he wouldn't mind finding himself in the girls' dormitory at all, but not this close to hatching time. They'd all be completely strung out, he imagined, and in no mood to discuss interesting things like how many people could fit in their cot. A pity, that. But a hunter in the back of his mind pointed out that many of them would be disappointed after failing to Impress, and maybe he could work his consoling magic on them. Be it mindhealing or otherwise. Not that he'd ever get involved with a patient, but it all depended on what kind of consolation they preferred.

"I'll see you then."

Shiv whistled happily. His human was happy. That was a good thing! And now it was time for bed, yes? Even better. They had been awake for so long. And now Shiv was fed and warm and sleep was the most wonderful thing in the world when a 'lizard was in that state. He yawned to emphasize his point.

"I have to put this one to bed," he said, scooping up his firelizard, who quivered even when he was on the verge of sleep. "Good night."

"Right," Layla nodded and climbed to her feet, collecting up her things as she did so, "I'll see you soon then, good night Tofir, good night Shiv!" Giving the pair a last smile, she turned away to take her things up to the hatch for washing up before heading out of the dininghall and off towards the baths. It had been a very long day, and tomorrow would be the same; all the things she had to juggle as a candidate were exhausting, but in the end it would all be worth it... Assuming she Impressed that was.
