March march march march march march march march
Her head filled with the silly thought of her feet making such a song, for it had to be the reason it was called that. It didn't sound much like 'march' as they waded through wet snow, more 'slush slush squish slush', but perhaps it was thought up in better weather. Wolves had reason to these things.
After a while her own brown coat took on a shimmery, dew-like glint to it from the cold sprinkling of water the storm had dwindled down to, and she didn't pay much mind to it other than the occasional shake of her pelt when she good too wet and the accumulated wetness began to seep in. But it was just the constant reminder of the weather, and she was too grateful to let it completely ruin her day. The teen was thinking herself back to home, wondering what her parents would say when she came back escorted by a strange wolf. Nice, but strange and a stranger still. Lite Bright wasn't partial to her bringing home anyone after her last meet up with that rude female.
But a surprising yet comfortable sensation on her shoulder drove her train of thought off the tracks, and Arina looked over to Adam, pink eyes fluttering. "Oh! Yeah, a-lot." She didn't mind the attention, and heck, she was a not-queen! They deserved it, right? You couldn't be all sodden and nasty when confronted by a monster. "It doesn't look like there's much of a dry spot here to wait out under here, though. Not that I'm complaining. I'm fine. . . What about you?" She tacked on the last sentence lamely, trying not to sound too boastful.

Adam sniffed, keeping his head straight as he grinned and repeated, 'I'm fine!' with a laugh as his response; being a bit chilly wasn't so bad if he didn't think about it too much. So what if there weren't any dry spots? 'Least we're getting a nice little bath, huh? See, you look like a mini-rainbow with all that water on you,' he pointed out. 'So your parents can't yell at you for getting dirty and they'll commen on how pretty you look; and, I mean, you'll dry off soon enough anyway, so they can't complain about that either. And I bet they'll be happy to know you made a friend today too, and that you evaded monsters!' he told Arina with several nods. 'And . . . and yeah! You're good to go.'
At length, he could catch vague scents up ahead, from which he could only tell they were from wolves' as it seemed the land had been purged of many smells after the rain, and Adam began to slow down and let Arina once more take the lead. 'Yup. Good to go, methinks. Unless you forgot something back there?'

Soon Arina could smell it. Home. Or what she knew as home, anyhow. With the earth seeming a perpetual slick of mud and snow she still recognized the naked trees and bushes she had grown up knowing. She could see in her mind the trails she had made in her childhood, each a different circling around the den, the fresher ones leading farther out. The teen didn't even had to sniff to know her family was around. It was almost like they were homebodies, they had no-one to see out here.
Turning back to Adam, Arina grinned. "Like what? My mind? No, I got everything. Um, thanks." Now just came the awkward part. She didn't really want to leave him, not now that they were having such fun. But at the same time her parents would probably be worried about her....she guessed. It was about time for her to be leaving. Even on the melting, soppy snow pink eyes could trail their path back through the woods, and for a brief moment she wondered if they went all the way back. Back to where she had met him, or where they'd holed up cramped together for however long. Probably it would melt all away, she reasoned, and thought not much more about it. "So...."
"Will you be around? Not now, I don't expect you to stalk me or anything. But will I see you again? Sometime? 'Cos I might want to." The teen tilted her head curiously towards him, taking her explanation as a perfectly acceptable goodbye. At least, she supposed it was. He was Mr. Big Shot that got to meet all these different people, not her. It was difficult to practice leaving somebody if there was no-one to practice with, was all.

'Forgetting your mind would be bad . . .' But then, Adam thought with a secret grin, he could retrieve that too if she needed it. But some secrets were best kept for a while longer; after all, without a little mystery, what fun would there be? Sure, sometimes it was just plain annoying to keep up the facade of being able to talk normally, but it paid off in the end; for one, he wouldn't be given strange looks, and for another he'd stave off that small period of time that came and went as it pleased, a set point of time in which the naturally goofy male would grow solemn and wonder at his purpose, his disabilities. Thankfully, this wouldn't last long - or at least, not as long as it used to.
'Stalk? Like prey? But I don't eat wolves,' Adam commented with a tiny frown of confusion, though he swept off his perplexion with a shrug and grinned once more. 'I kinda go wherever really, but I'm pretty good at finding others again; got a really good sense of smell and direction when I want ta. Watch.' With little more warning, he stepped forward and leaned his head close to her, taking a big whiff before stepping back again, tail wagging. Yay for forgetting social boundaries? 'Alright! My memory's awesome with scents, so now I won't forget you for sure. Aaaaand I say if we wanna see each other again, then we'll see each other again - easy settled! But only if you promsie to try and smile more, alright? Next time, I ought to see your family too.'

Arina pulled her head away as he moved closer to 'gather her scent', both curious what he'd do with it and at the same time a little embarrassed for them both. Of course, she was just being silly. No-one was around, well except for maybe her parents, and he wasn't gonna bite her head off on anything! Still the teen felt a little foolish and strangely...a little giddy. When he was finished the female leaned forwards on her toes to give a polite sniff in response, as though assuming it'd have 'magical' properties or be as effective as when he did it.
It smelled of earth and rain and a little bit like herself, and pulling back again she smiled. "See? You've already got me started." Arina answered, nodding in agreement to him. He'd end up seeing her family, but not today. Not when she was probably in too much trouble as it was. But she'd cross that river when she saw it, right?
"Well......Goodbye then, Adam!" She gave an awkward giggle at that, for reasons unknown even to herself and slowly backing away and turning, started towards her den. Arina could feel her stomach give an almost pout-like growl and she couldn't wait to curl up in the warm den and lick herself dry and clean. But just as she reached a copse of bushes she spun on a muddy green foot to look back at him, features set in determination. "No! Not 'goodbye'. I'll see you later, okay?" Easy settled. With that, the teen slipped through the bushes and out of sight.

What was funny to note about the male was the light lessening of his smile when it was just a sniff he got. This was followed by a slightly confused face, this aimed not at her action (or lack thereof?) but at his apparent assumation that there was something more to come from it. What was he supposed to be expecting, he asked himself. Wasn't a knight supposed to be helping others without want of reward or recognition, to seek those in need out of the goodness of his heart and nothing more?
Even the Good Samaritan wants a nuzzle or a lick, though.
Owlishly the teen blinked, not sure what to make of this stray thought, and by the time he recollected himself Arina had already darted away, pausing at a bush to give him a few more parting words. 'R-Right, later and not later than that!' he called back, and the stray thought seemed pleased with this for some reason. So he felt it appropriate to turn with a wagging tail, his spirits lifted once the promise was uttered. Aaaaaaaaand . . . this way we go, Adam thought to himself, beginning a light hum in his head as he padded towards a safe shelter where he could properly dry off and get some sleep for the moment.
