Charlè only blushed deeper at the ruffling of his hair and gave an embarrassed little yelp. He lost his balance a moment and stumbled back only to thump against the box and stare wide-eyed at the smiling East. People certainly were nice here. Maybe a little too nice? Was there even such a thing? Reassured that his plan wasn't entire asinine, though, he followed East loyally out of the back room to help retrieve the cart as best he could.

"Hail," Wirl tipped her hat back and quirked an eyebrow. "Iffen anyone's gotta loose a limb, I voulenteer a toe. 'Xpect Ah kin get 'long without a toe. Mebbe a foot."
It sounded like a grand adventure to her!
Wirl followed after Charle and East, adding another hairruffle to the boy's current tally. "Ye kin' ride on th'cart, lil'un. Don' wanna getcha hurt."

"Gosh, Miss East," Kent said, his eyes very slightly rolling. "Stet's no more of a sexist than I am. We're just real old fashioned."
Poor Stet.
"But I'm happy to be dumb muscle."

Charlè gave another little 'enhk!' and put his hands over his mouth. Oh my, these people certainly liked to touch, didn't they?!
"I can...I can do it!" he defended. If the cart started rolling, he could probably just drop down and go under it anyway! Hm, but what if he couldn't? He was still young yet, compared to the rest of the group, and small!
"Perhaps I can direct as well..."

"East!" the so-called Sexist cried out. "You're breaking my heart, and I have my doubts as to how well that can grow back!" Stet placed his hands over his heart for emphasis, looking rather stricken, as though shot. With a quiet sigh, he put his hands on the bar in preparation to push himself off, giving Kent a sad, sidelong look. "Wrong era, Hero. Wrong era."
He jumped down, landing smartly on his feet and making his way over to East and Sin, brushing off the transparent sleeve of his dress shirt. Giving a final tug to his vest, he stuck his hands into his pockets again and gave East his sideways smile. "At least this sexist is an obedient one. Lead on, dear East."

Charlè couldn't help but giggle at Stet's display. That was a kind of humor he knew. He made a mental note to find out what an "era" was and spend some more time with that particular group of adults. It would be nice to grow up and have some friends, rather than a whole group of awkward casual acquaintances.

Children and madmen, he thought dolefully to himself [ed. note: technically madwomen, but that doesn't scan as well], our lives are in the hands of children and madmen...and while children at least may gain sense as they grow... he added darkly, glowering at his sister as she clambered over him to reach the elevator button.
"The cart is in here," he announced as he stopped the contingent at one of the many forbidding steel doors a floor below, "this room is strictly off-limits to visitors, so I would appreciate it if you could pretend it is unoccupied save for the object of our search..." after a considered look at the height of the access pad, he continued with a hint of embarrassment, "...and if I could prevail upon one of the gentlemen for a leg up."

The the sound of 'off limits', Redd was suddenly far more interested in Charlè's plan. "Whoops-a-daisy, then." he muttered under his breath, eyebrow raised as he looked at the door. Bounding over to Sin, he offered a nod and a grin. "Glad to be of service!" He crouched down to give Sin a leg up and eyed the door somewhat crookedly, or a t least more crookedly than usual. After all, Sin hadn't made them swear to pretend it was unoccupied...

He stepped up the proffered palm for a moment, keying in the code rapidly before hitting the floor again: "Much obliged." The predatory gleam in the Devil's eye as the door slid open made him uneasy - though, he allowed himself to briefly savour the thought, it would serve his employer right if he were to get into trouble with his masters should something go awry at this leg of their little escapade...
...All the same, he ruefully concluded, he should file for a password change. Trouble would catch up with him eventually - it always did.

When it opened it was like a signal - the cart was right there, near the doorframe, glinting in the dim light, the dust motes glittered in the gleam. " It's perfect," she said enthusiastically, almost threateningly excited. " Thanks Sin!" She turned to yell " Ladies up the cart, guys at the wheels, Sin takes the front right, the rest of you can fight for your places! Like this:" She produced a rudimentarily drawn post-it from goodness knew where, but it wasn't anyone's place to ask, just do. " Just run it out and hop on like a bobsled," she nodded, assured of the 1/3 men's competence. " I'd rather you grow up safe Charlè, so up you go!" East seized Charlè by the waist and hoisted him up as she scaled the cart, carefully pulling out the child seat for him - when he was placed in the seat four times too big, she cocked her head and smiled with satisfaction. She then adjourned to the front, and balanced tenaciously on the steel grid with her heels, eyes wide and lips upturned in a grin. " This is much better than the mopping!" [Rabid, if Charlè would rather clamber up some other way, let me know and I'll edit it. wink ]

Charlè was, he would admit, a bit prideful that his plan had been accepted so readily. Imagine, the child of the group coming up with the master plan! He only allowed himself a broad smile, though and held East's wrists as he was lifted up and placed within the child's seat. He laughed a bit then and shifted to sit upon his knees and peer over the seat toward the front of the cart. Oh, this would be such an adventure!

Stet looked sidelong at Charlè as the boy giggled, giving him an encouraging wink and a flick of a smile before his face resumed the pensive solemness that he was presenting to East. He stayed with the ladies at the devil-man helped Sin, taking one look at the forbidden room and giving it a mostly disinterested once-over. He lived in the bar, he felt he was entitled to at least get a good look at the area, no matter what the pony-tailed one said!
His red eyes slid towards the note and he had to cough to smoother the grin that threatened to form. The C*cktail took a moment to consider which side was safest, and ended up waltzing to the back of the cart and stationing himself there; it was safer to push and grab on if Kent was going to take the front. He could just imagine a downhill slope with the Hero pushing; he'd be Stet-sauce in no time. "No matter what comes of this day, we're going to have a good laugh at it when it's all said and done." He made a mental note not to do anything that would include the laughing being aimed at him.

Straggling back behind the others, Vino seemed to be preoccupied as she studied the room around them and the contraption they were about to possibly trust their limbs in. Fast, dangerous, large. 'My kind of fun,' she thought with her hands on her hips, her polished nails tapping along the hipbones. Was it obvious that she was probably hoping for a little bloodshed? Yeah. But what didn't kill you only made you strongly, and this venture would surely be a learning experience.
"With Kent's steel pumping, this beautiful contraption might blast. Or maybe we'll crash and burn, but hey, it's all about the thrill, no?" Grabbing onto the metal frame of the cart, she began climbing up until she reached the top, where sheswung a leg easily over the edge and hoisted herself up. Getting on the inside, she jumped down and landed on the bottom of the cart with a light 'clang!'.
"Aye aye, Captain," Vino said as she saluted to East. Making over to the back left of the cart, she peeked over to the ground below. "You sure you guys're going to be alright down there?"

Charlè peered over the edge of the cart and gave the gentleman (the one who had used the strange "era" word) a little wave and a grin. Were you excited too, gentleman? It was sure to be fun, so long as nobody got any scraped knees!

" Oh yes," East said, dangerously gleeful, " Oh, they'll be just fine! Alright C*cktails, hang on and roll out!" Sin, with a frown more pronounced than usual, led the kick-off in the most helplessly rueful manner. * * * * * With some difficulty and some treadmarks over the linoleum, they'd managed to make it to the open doors of HyTech - the lone, petite, gothic lady had wordlessly let them through the receptionist area without batting an eyelid. " It's just down this way, if I'm right," East remarked, pointing straight ahead. " Straight and left," she recalled, tapping the steel. " Now just to get past all these cars in the way!" The cars being a swath of vehicles speeding down a four-lane road. " I guess we'd just have to jaywalk! Go on!" It seemed distinctly more realistic to achieve had this been a video game, possibly about a frog crossing the road. East had found a gameboy once, but never managed to get past the first stage. She wasn't going to tell them that though.
