the scout gave a small grumble....getting a bowl of stew for her companion like everyone else was eating...but not really having much for a large horse like wolf...so tossing the wolf a bone from the meat used to make the stew. and hoping it'd be fine.

A small smile.

"I would imagine not. you presented us with aid in that battle, and I know your mount suffered for that aid, wether you intended it as iad or not. Your advice was heard and heeded, though tactical retreat after engaging those things was the needed choice. else they'd simply bring them all the time to the forefront."

getting up and pulling her seat out for her, and waiting until she sat down.

"you're not the only one you know, that prefers this conflicted ended."

"Oh..." Great so he was going to smelling squirrel for awhile then? That was just perfect. But Randall was mostly surprised at how quickly they came back to the camp, not that he missed it but it was nice to actually be around something that resembled his own kind, even though it was just there to house people to kill other people. "Alright, and thanks for that tidbit of information." Like he wanted to loose his fingers to a giant wolf. So Randall wandered quietly off to the side and sat down once he got his bowl of stew, which was better than eating something raw. As he ate quietly he kept an eye on the wolf, sometimes for its sake, but mostly for his own.

"A sprained leg. It will heal quickly." If her dear friend hadn't been hurt, she would be miles from here already. "They won't care for your show." They'd do it again and find more scare tactics as well she was sure. Just as the humans would, and anyone else who got involved. She took a seat merely to be polite. "I don't assume I am. Nor do I assume how driving of a force I am in the grand scheme."

Bone was good for her and she happily chewed on it, cracking it open to get to the marrow as she had laid herself down by where Randall sat. She would look at him as he did her from time to time but mostly her attention was on teh soldiers who were eying her as well. In the bad way. THen an absentminded gnaw at ther leg bindings sometimes.

She would find herself pushed down face first in said dead body as he passed her and moved to the next nearest, checking over armor and unbuckling it from whom used to use it. Could melt that down. "You don't even have a good eye for what to keep off a warrior."

"It wasn't for the elves alone. it was for our men. as much as I would prefer the sword be laid aside, I cannot in good faith let my men be frightened into submission at the magics elfkin can wield."

gesturing for her to eat if she felt the desire to, and pouring her a glass of wine, and one for himself.

"My superiors believe that this woodland place is a prime route in the elvish supply lines. Judging from what I saw today, that hardly seems the case alone. while the forests are sacred to your kin, I've never seen them use those type of constructs to defend a forest,"

A soft sigh.

"give me a reason. some reason, to consider this place something that is not strategically viable. these young nobles and glory hounds want to press into elvish lands...I'd prefer the centuries long relative stalemate. At least then there may be some more willing to engage in peaceful talks. but pushing into your lands, and the subsequent retaliation, isn't going to make that happen."

Taking a drink from his glass.

"So you emboldened them simply so they could come back twice as hard next time." Figured...if they didn't provoke the elves here they wouldn't have to contend with such things. But they still had a stick in hand. "All forests are elven supply routes, anyone should know this. We take from the forest and land...we don't need specific places to do this." Crossing her arms she tilted her head at him. "I am not an mouthpiece for elves. Thanks to your skirmish, I find myself short a home. As for the others anything I say someone will take and make strategically viable as you like to put it. My words mean little to those who see their own ways only. The Wind is even lost on them here."

Randall was happy with the stew, they actually gave him a good portion, so he ate it with glee and did not complain one bit. Though he looked to the wolf when she cracked open the bone and smiled a bit, it wouldn't be hard for her to do that with any type of bone, that's for sure. Though he noticed how the others were looking at them and he frowned. "Oh get back to what you were doing you idiots! Unless you want your commander to make you do laps or something." Fools, all of them. But when Rycek began to gnaw at her bindings Randall snapped his fingers to get her attention. "No, don't." And that was all he said before he went back to eating.

"the Wind isn't lost on everyone. Yes, I know of the Wind."

getting himself up and picking up his sword, holding it out to her.

"this has been in my family for generations. it's called the Defender. notice anything about it? like the runework, the way the blade is made, the way it's shaped?"

setting the weapon on the table edge.

"Long ago my family line was a friend to elves. That sword is prove that once elves and men were allies. I may not hear this wind...or understand it, but I my family remembers when elves swore by it."

shaking his head.

"no your not a mouthpiece, but you are an elf.give me someting. you said your home is there.is there many elcish homes? a city perhaps in teh deeper forest? someplace i can say if we go there, not only do we provoke the elf nation further but we will be responsible for the deaths of civilians and children?"

Leaning forward.

"one of my superiors knows about you. I can say we captured you, and exchanged you for the man you are with, but he deserted. I can get the support I need here for that. as much a glory hound as some of them are, they know better then to try breaching an elvish city with what they have here. it buys time. Time that can be spent finding another reason to leave this place alone, or finding someone that might want to open lines of dialoge."

"Knowing means nothing and once long ago, everyone swore by it, no matter who they were. Elf, human, everyone." Giving a once over of his sword however, she did have an appreciation for weapons. "I live alone." But he was pressing. "In that forest, there are homes. The elves you fought in battle are not from here. They were requested when word of your force came. They come from a greater city farther beyond. Attack the forest again and you invoke the villages' peril and the kingdom's ire more." Amber eyes watched him for a momen though, "You can play noble warrior all you want. In the end, no one will listen. Civilians are bumps in a road, sacred caves and items will be seen as ransom. Creatures such as my mount will be sought after for sheer pride of breaking and pelt."

The snap made her ears twitch and she looked back to him, licking her nose as she tilted her head at him. Who did he think he was, trying to tell her no? A single swish of her tail before she leaned her head forward and shoved him to the ground with her nose, returning to her bone.

Randall looked at the wolf from the corner of his eye for a bit as he finished up the rest of his meal. Just as he set the bowl on the ground did he suddenly found himself shoved to the ground by Rycek. He made a noise before sitting up and looking to the wolf again. Now he knew he couldn't do anything or she would kill him, so what could he do? "Hey, do that again and your bone is mine." It probably won't be but he had to say something.

Running his hand through his hair lightly.

"I serve my home, protect my family. that's why I am here. I am not here to make some elvish mother cry, or make elvish children scream in terror."

leaning back.

"but unfortuntely, I don't have all the power to make those decisions, to make those commands. and those that do, are a bunch of snot nosed inexperienced nobles who take credit for 'great victories' they didn't even so much as lift a banner in support of."

taking a nother drink, adn picking some at the food, little bites here and there.

"Most of the older nobility have lost their power. either it's been taken by time, or the younger nobility force their opinions to the back in political mockery nad maneuvers. so here we sit."

drumming his fingers a moment.

"Can't you help me? we're pebbles yes, in the thick of things. just small stones. but loosen enough small stones on a hillside, and what you get in an avalanche."

"If you were smart, you'd help on your own rather than in an army." But humans liked their armies or something. Yet here he was acting like she held some kind of keys to some chest that held everything he needed. He wouldn't see...no matter what she said, what she gave him, those above him would twist it however they wished and press forward all the same. "A lot of the elves here, are of human descent as well. Unless your nobility enjoys slaughtering those that have thier blood in them, that won't sway them. Half-elves are as bad as elves to most."

A sigh and she uncrossed her arms. "The forest will be cleared soon. The elves are drawing into their main city for greater protection. There are caves in this region that are sacred, the wind speaks in them to those that ask and can hear sincerely. If you push farther into this land..." pointing to the direction of the mountains would be nearby. "You draw down those in the mountains. Drow. Further movement will invoke the whole of the elven nation upon your armies. That is all I can offer you. I myself shall not be around much longer. My mount and I will be leaving this territory." Because nothing was going to stop them...his nobles would probably think they could take on the whole nation of elves. "The wind has it's own designs and I will listen to it, and no other. For it is screaming it's final breath before it is snuffed out. It deserves better than to be killed by falling on deaf ears. I fear what happens when it ceases to blow."

Which merely got him a growl but a wagging tail at the same time in return and back to possessively gnawing on her bone, starting to make it disappear.

"I have obligations to my family and my people."

But he listened, nodding his head lightly.

"you see, there is just the thing I needed. the forest will be cleared soon, and it houses sacred land...pushing on sacred land is not something even those upstarts want to do, because they fear what elves hold sacred. pushing further to the mountains will bring your dark skinned, and far more brutal cousins, whom they also hold in fear."

resting his hands one over the other and his elbows on the table.

"that gives them plenty of reason to leave this area alone. thus if you wished you can have your home here, and not be forced to flee it if you so chose."

"That is your downfall." Well he was happy now wasn't she? Some thanks this was. He merely wanted to pump her for information. Seemed she had in part misjudged him...noble warrior, but warrior who would do anything as well. "I do not flee because of you. I move because I am guided." Her tone less warm now than it naturally was and she got herself up, pulling her cloak hood back up. "Then you have no more need of me, Foolish empassioned warrior whose faith will be dashed by those whom care not for anything but what their own eyes see and their stone hearts weight down. Struggle as you will...men of those ways will disappoint you." Moving out of his tent then.

Honestly who did he think he was? Be thankful and yet be nothing but strategical with her. She should let them have him and his army. They would burn down the woods, they would defile sacred things, and they would laugh with glee in challenge of other elves as well. Soon this man's army would lay decimated and if he would be lucky he'd be alive.

Moving over to Rycek she plopped the wolf's saddle on her, securing it and her supplies and urging the wolf up. Not another word said to anyone before with a hand on said wolf she started to guide her out of the camp, a light breeze flowing through the camp then in her wake, making the fire flicker and tent material flap. Which made her stop and look back for a moment before moving again. "I hear you...but no one here will. Do not expect help from them."

He hated being so formaly and militarily so with her, but it was a needed evil in this case. he didn't try to stop her as she left, and waited a few moment after, before coming out of the tent.

"Break camp, we're leaving. everyone's going home."

"Sir.."

"Go home. I'll deal with the nobles. we're treading between two dangerous things that we haven't the force or the need to mess with. The borders between elvish and human lands are large enough that this spot can be left alone."

"Then all those men that died today died for nothing?"

He gave a small sigh and shook his head lightly, before getting himself a stool to stand on.

"Alright...listen to me before we have dissent and would be heroes. Right now, as it stands, we're breaking camp, and you are dispersing to go home. I'm disbanding this portion of the army under my command. You will probably be called right back into service, just not under me."

watching them a moment.

"I have just been informed that the forest we invaded holds sacred caves. and you saw how fiercely they defended them. if we provoke further, who knows what they may do to protect what is sacred to them. Behind us, in the foothills, those mountains looming here are filled with the Drow. We are in no position to be facing either portion of the elven nations, and even less without any magical support. Those that died, died fighting to protect our way of life. But this is a fight we can't win here. So I am letting the rest of you go home to your families. to your children. and with any luck you'll never be forced to shed blood or watch a friend die in combat. I'll explain to the nobility what happened, and why I have decided how I have, and let them chose the next course of action."

stepping down of the stool, glancing at the one that objected.

"that satisfactory to you? now go home."

Hopping up on his horse, not particularly caring about the tent in the least.

"With any luck, we won't see eachother again like this."

Before spurring his horse to start the long trek back to the human capital.

"b*****d." Yeah, dead elf wasn't nice to have on your face and she was so going to get him back for that later. Then again, she'd gotten sloppy and he'd taken advantage of it which was the same thing she'd done to him on the hill. And now she had a scratch from a dagger on her cheek to even them up. He should appreciate that but he probably wouldn't. Loser that he could be. She had herself a nice pile of things she liked and he was still scouting the field. Men. "Are you done yet? You know they come out soon and bury their dead."
