MidBossVyers Meiling the Mighty I can't think of any at the moment, and I don't really want to spent hours looking for examples, but the parts that are the primitive form of brains are nerve clusters called ganglia. Basically, if something acts entirely out of predetermined actions (instincts) and reacts soley on reflex, it couldn't possibly have a soul. Modern computers are even higher than that. Really though, what makes something have a soul is conciousness. Unfortunately, we can't measure that. If we knew how all that worked, I'd be working on transfering myself to another body this very moment, if I hadn't already done so. One can reincarnate into any living thing. As such, every living thing has a soul. Higher undeath does not remove said soul. Bacteria are alive. Life is merely a very complicated set of semi-controlled chemo-mechanical reactions.

Well, if you're REALLY bad in this life, and you reincarnate into a lower life form, how low can you go?

Nonexistance is the lowest one can be, but I don't think that applies to this. The thing is, being of low intelligence has nothing to with being a "lesser" life form. Becoming something like an ant can't really be considered a punishment, as I'm sure ants are perfectly fine with being ants. Rather, lacking intelligence would simply prevent one from performing truly evil acts, or even kind ones at that. Reincarnation really does nothing to allow one to repent for sins.
In fact, if we go by your theory of souls having nothing to do with awareness, then since a soul isn't a living thing itself, who's to say it can't be bound to nonliving things as well? Androids, anyone? The concept is everywhere in myth in religion. Read: Kogasa.
But this has gotten really far off track. Let's see, where'd it start? Vampires don't have reflection because they don't have souls? That's silly. Vampires are basically public works of fiction, and so any flawed aspects of them can be (and are) changed as need be.

Hey, I'm not saying soulless inanimate objects can't get souls. I know plenty of examples of that, such as, as you mentioned, youkai born from inanimate objects, such as Kogasa, and I know of reploids, robots with souls.

Hmm...This is quite a complicated subject. Let's just say Remilia eats those.
Like I said earlier, the mistress can't properly keep herself presentable without a reflection, right?

Anything and everthing that dares oppose her, especially actions and ideas.
So in this case, Remilia eats the concept of vampires not having reflections.

So you're saying she's like Shiki Ryougi from Kara no Kyoukai, but instead of cutting concepts, she eats them?

Oh, Ryougi is from Kara no Kyoukai. Google it if you don't know, but anyway, I thought Remilia's power was control over fate.

I tried that in MUGEN. Dracula won, but then was promptly defeated by Flandre. Also, Dracula does NOT cast a reflection in the game, but Alucard, his son, does.

Same series? Huh? MUGEN is a customizable fighting game with EVERYTHING from EVERYTHING, miss Meiling... And take note that I remembered your name.
