Kitty thought of the advice only as a friendly warning, not one to be taken seriously at all. What friend wouldn't want to protect another against a new and relatively unknown person? Especially when that person was dressed so well and handsome to boot.
Once Jess was gone from the shop, Kitty turned to Nathan with an approving smile.
"My gosh, look at you. So, you're the collector, huh? Sneaky thing." She gave him a playful bat on the elbow before turning to lead them to the shelves of older tomes. "I suppose you've already got your eye on some things if you were the one to clean off the shelf, hm?"

Samson watched Jess leave with a furrowed brow before turning to smile at Kitty. "Yes I did get to see some of the treasures you keep back there. I saw many that I have been looking for for quite some time. You've got quite the collection..." He chuckled a little though was serious with his compliment.
In reality, Samson did have a passion for reading, but only because he enjoyed be thoroughly well read. It benefited him greatly in his profession. He prided himself in knowing just enough to get him through each job individual, as well as smaller everyday things he could con his way through.
His whole life he had always been good at retaining information, adapting to situations, and being who he wasn't. So it was no wonder he was standing her today in the midst of a beautiful woman, dressed in a suit that he really couldnt affoard, trying to swindle a book away from her pretty innocent hands. Though he always said it never bothered him, this job would prove to be much more of a challenge than usual.

Once in the back room, Kitty took a step back to see just what this man would be interested in. Some of the books could be worth a great deal to the right person, yet all of them seemed near priceless to Kitty. Still, she told herself that she couldn't live on words alone and needed the money terribly.
"So which ones have stolen your heart?" she asked, eager to see just what he read, if only to compare it to her own reading tastes. Like minds could talk about books for hours, she felt, and was getting very excited as every scenario played through her mind...

Samson blushed a tad bit rubbing he back of his head. "Well...You may laugh at me..." He smiled dashingly as he stepped inside further, looking through the various books. "I'm fascinated by childrens books... the ones especially from old Earth. I find them...nostalgic and refreshing at the same time...And I suppose they remind me of my late mother..." His eyes softened as his gaze and hand fell for a moment. Though after a moment of letting that rest, he sighed and kept going. "There's also... as you already know from yesterday, I have a great passion for poetry..." His eyes scanned the shelves casually, even though he knew precisely where the copy he was looking for lay.
"As well as anything romantic really... well not like the soap opera filled romance novels, but more like the classic love stories... Have you read Sense and Sensibility?" He asked suddenly curious as he turned to look at her with dark, gentle, inquisitive eyes.

It was as if some great being had taken all the loves of her heart and formed this personification in front of her. Kitty watched him scan and pause, and listened to his story, even if it was only a small glimpse into who he really was. But at the mention of Sense and Sensibility, her breath caught in her chest.
"That's the book I restored and am going to display in the shop! As sort of a historical tribute to Earth, you know. Most of the works here are copies of stories that were commonly printed there. But... I just realized it must have gotten sorted in here by mistake... I hope nothing has happened to it."
Kitty joined him in his searching, though it soon became much more frantic as she thought of all the things that could have happened to such a priceless thing in the shelf's collapse. She was so featherbrained sometimes! Even when it came to such important things, somehow she always gave into the idea that things would just work out.

He cocked an eyebrow, showing equal worry though toned down a bit as he searched on the opposite end of the shelf, finally raising his eyebrows in unison with an "Ah-" He pulled out the old book gently, handing out to her. "I think this is it..." He smiled, looking at it himself. "Probably one of my favorite books ever..." He smiled gently, flipping through it gingerly.

"Ahh--" Kitty reached out to it like the book was an injured animal in need of love. "It's... it's from Earth, you know," she began, never taking her eyes off of it. "An original publication. I have no idea how my mother got ahold of it, but she did, and the display for it is coming tomorrow. We're hoping it brings in more people to the shop, since we're feeling the pressure from big business now..."
It was sort of their shining hope for more customers. While they were comfortable in their success, the inevitability of having to close their doors was becoming more and more of a realistic threat with the way big business was closing in on their area. The street and surrounding shops were trying their hardest to keep the support for independents, but somehow, Kitty had doubt in her heart that they could keep this up forever.

Somehting behind Samson's eyes flashed though he knew she wouldn't have seen. Of course it has sentimental properties... He sighed frustrated to himself...
"There's no way you'd ever sell this would you?" He asked very simply, not implying in an overbearing way he wanted to take it from her, Though more like he was just establishing it's worth to her...in a kind way.

"No..." Kitty softly took it from him and held it to her chest in a protective sort of way. "Not unless we were given something of greater value. Or weren't in any danger from the big chain stores." She laughed at the very idea of that hope being fulfilled. Even with all her flighty ways, Kitty could see the reality of that in numbers on paper, which couldn't be dreamed away in an afternoon. Losing the shop was her greatest fear.
"I'm sorry if you had your heart set on this one, Nathan. But maybe there are others here? You can take all the time you need to look over everything..."

Samson's heart sank. Not because he lost the book for a moment, but because he felt something ...odd?For some reason he had a compulsion to buy up every book she had back there to help her with her debt... but he knew very well he couldn't...
He couldn't really buy any book at the moment so he decided to change the subject instead. "...You're under a lot of stress..." He noted, taking a step towards her, his eyes searching hers as his hand came up to her cheek 'unconsciously'.
".....Dear Kitty how long has it been since you've had any kind of fun hm?" He asked gently, smiling ever so slightly. "I mean besides reading?" He chuckled.

She knew exactly what all those romance novels meant by being struck by a mere touch. Only, it was happening to her now, and that was something truly amazing.
"It's been... awhile," Kitty said, almost so softly it couldn't be heard at all. "I always have to take care of the shop and everything else. Not many others to do it, you know. But I do have friends and do get out sometimes on weekends."
The grip on her book was slackening from her nervousness and she could feel herself going pink again...
"Sorry," she laughed. "You must think I'm such a spaz or something."

He smiled sweetly, his thumb stroking her cheek bone lightly before pulling away. "No not at all... You're a breath of fresh air really..." He assured, taking her in with a smile.
"...Kitty...Would you do me he honor of accompanying me on a night on the town? You look like you need it, and I know you deserve it... I promise you You'll enjoy it." He let the offer hang a moment before continueing. "I have no alternative motive. I promise you. Nathaniel Da'Rhodes is not a loose man. I'll have you back at a reasonable hour if you so choose, and it will all be innocent fun. How does that sound?" He added, letting her know she had no reason to fear being alone with him
What he said was all true though. His character Nathan Da'Rhodes Was not a man who would press himself on a woman. Just as his character last week, Alexander Reynolds was quite the ladies man, and may have had many intimate excursions with a young woman who just so happened to coincidentally have a very valuable and rare artifact in her apartment where he spent many a night.
It all just depended on who he was at the moment. Though there was still this strange feeling. Kitty was so innocent... No. He scolded himself. Dont develop a conscience now old boy... he warned himself.
He tried to push away these slight pangs of guilt by saying it was really just Nathaniel who was feeling the guilt. Not him.

And once again, that romantic, wonderfully fuzzy feeling took over her brain and she found herself saying, "Yes. Yes, I'd love to..."
The accepted invitation was followed by a burst of laughter at her luck. how incredible this all was! And she was not in the least bit ashamed to say so out loud.
"Nathan, you're the breath of fresh air in this musty place. Truly. I mean, I do love my books and everything, but you're like a character straight out of a book, and that's much better than just reading about it."

At that Samson had to alugh. He even blushed a little, shrugging with a sigh. "That's probably the best compliment i"ve ever received." He shook his head, a genuine smile on his face. "I've been told I'm quite the character but never before has it ever made me blush as it just has..." He laughed a bit more, his eyes just sparkling, attempting to mimic the glitter in hers.
"So then...I'll pick you up here tomorrow night?" He asked, waning to make sure he had the details down.

"At closing time. It's... a date." Kitty hesitated on the last word, though the glitter and smile in her eyes didn't go away. In just a few days, she had seemed to have secured the attentions and affections of a gentleman. It didn't even phase her that he hadn't bought a thing from her collection, and as she was so wrapped up in the thrill of the moment, she forgot all about it.
