Fallon liked meek girls. She liked them a lot.

When Yvette spoke with that clueless, nervous wiggle, Fallon felt herself forget everyone else in the room. (Except maybe Pierrette. Maybe.) She zoomed in on the adorable tentative girl who seemed absolutely terrified of her. Now, why exactly was terror precious to Fallon? Perhaps this was a question she should ask her therapist some day. As if were, she was only 15, there was no therapist in sight, and Yvette was growing more and more adorable with each chin wibble.

Relaxing the annoyed scowl that had been hanging on her features, Fallon smiled warmly at the girl. She couldn't walk away from the stove because the eggs would burn. Instead, she leaned her head toward Yvette and said, "I would be happy to make you something sweet, Yvette. You only have to ask. Do you like fruit tarts? Or are you a chocolate kind of girl?" A softness slipped into Fallon's voice -- the voice she used when she was trying to cozy up to another female. Oddly enough, Fallon had all the necessary ingredients on her to whip up a sweet dish (because she was cool like that), and she had already decided that she would make anything that Yvette asked.

Lifting one hand, she brushed a piece of hair away from Yvette's face. "I'm sorry if you are nervous. You can just talk to me, if you'd like." In her own opinion, Fallon was the most entertaining person in the room anyway. And she wasn't talking about monsters or cannibalism. AND she was offering to cook something special for Yvette. All of these things, Fallon believed, made her the best possible person for Yvette to socialize with of those gathered. It didn't occur to her that her violence toward Andeon might put off the purple-haired teen.

Oh well.

With her eyes on the ground, she couldn't help but feel very awkward. What had she been thinking, coming down to the kitchen in her stringy tank top and boxer bottoms? She felt as if all eyes were on her at the moment, even though only those of Fallon's had fallen upon her. She hugged her bosom slightly tighter with her arm which had been consistently there to hide her chest a bit, as if trying to mentally calm herself down.

It wasn't working in the slightest.

"I... I-i... I just want something s-s-simple to bring back t-to my room..." she hesitated to say in her tiny voice. The mention of a fruit tart sounded good, but at the same time, a very important concern had to be voiced. "I... I c-can't have s-st-strawberries..."

She could feel a bit of her hair droop in front of her face, but it was wiped up and back behind her ear by a foreign hand. She could feel a small chill run down her spine. She meekly looked up, finally able to face a gentler-faced Fallon. She still looked scared out of her wits, but at least the eye contact was an improvement.

Andeon currently has his face buried in steak. Literally. If he doesn't stop chowing down soon, he will probably suffocate.

He is shipping Fallon x Yvette in his dreams tonight.

That's really all there is to say.

Fallon was getting her game on. She had no time to think about little boys and their little fantasies. If Andeon choked, it would be on the most delicious steak ever. You're welcome.

At the stove, Fallon slid Laney's food onto a plate, pouring a little sugar water into a small cup for the ugly plant. Of course, she wouldn't call it ugly out loud; she knew better. Picking around Mason and Laney, Fallon completely ignored the situation, dropping off the food and saying, "Food is up, Laney!" as she passed.

Then it was back to business.

Fallon smiled at Yvette, drawing a white rag over the counter. It wasn't too dirty, but that was a relative term to Fallon. Shaking the rag off over the trash can, she said, "I can make you a tart -- sans strawberries. How do you feel about blueberries, kiwi, pineapple, mango, and apple?" There was a freshly cut fruit salad sitting in Fallon's bag with all of those ingredients. She had brought it specifically for herself to eat, but she had no problem sacrificing it in the name of courtship. Dropping the frying pan into the sink, Fallon ran the water, letting it fill up. She'd need to do the dishes once they all stopped eating.

Yvette wanted to eat in her room, sure, but the tart would have to be baked. That would provide for enough time, Fallon thought, to carry out a nice conversation. Before Yvette could object, Fallon started to pull out bowls onto the table and various spices. She slipped over to the fridge to get some eggs and milk. The crust would have to be done first, and she quickly set to work, flickering the nicest smiles she could muster in Yvette's direction. Anything that Fallon could do to keep the precious little nervous ball standing next to her seemed like a wonderful idea.

Perhaps a little conversation was in order. "Yvette, I'm not sure I remember... What are you at Barren Pines to study?" Fallon was eager to hear more of that awkward, trembling voice -- even if she was just reciting a list of things she had eaten in the last week.

Shazari
Nothing could save Nihls now. Laney was shaking him a bit desperately, apparently unaware she was doing so. "That was a token of someone's love and you left it abandoned on the side of the road like a blown-out tire! I would never do that to Seymour, Seymour and I have a rapport. We have a Vulcan mind-meld."

"I didn't..." Nihls started to protest, frantic with the need to escape this deranged plant aficionado. "I le..." He started to explain he'd left it in one of the kitchens, for the warmth and potential for food and adoption. ((Something of, in his mind, the plant equivalent of a humane society...)) But as far as he could predict, logic and politeness were having no effect on this terrifying woman.
"HELP!!" He finally shouted, hoping someone would actually notice, though the general consensus seemed to be to leave them to their own devices. Curses!

Her deep purple eyes still seemed to shy, and would frequently begin to falter, lowering to the ground again in uncertainty. Somehow, this situation felt weird, as if eyes were burning holes in her from the intensity of their gazes.

Her voice trembled out "I-i-it sounds good..." Her vocabulary had all but diminished to simple words, and her poor face was starting to turn a bit red. She was still hungry now, but she could never voice such an ungrateful thing right now. Not after Fallon was kindly offering to make her food. She was putting herself out for Yvette, and this made the dark haired girl feel really bad. By the time Fallon's eyes were upon her again, Yvette's had once more fallen to the floor. Each little worry was eating her from the inside, and in all honesty, the girl couldn't look anymore uncomfortable.

As the burgandy haired girl spoke to her, Yvette momentarily jolted, suddenly rushing back to reality, not realizing that the chef had returned. Her eyes were wide and she had to take in three deep breaths before she could regain her composure (which had barely been there to begin with). In her tiny voice, she replied uncertainly "Oh... um... I'm h-here for f-fashion design. F-for d-drawing c-concepts and s-sewing the designs."

Kirin had to turn away with a grimace from the people eating nearly raw steak, like Ara. It turned his stomach. He continued to listen to Ara's information on the mutant bugs, though.

Kirin frowned thoughtfully at the description. "Either evolution jumped ahead a few thousand years for these bugs, or someone's playing mad doctor. Even lions and tigers will think twice about attacking something bigger than they are, unless it's already injured." Thank you middle school, for boring nature documentaries in biology classes!

"I don't know about the teachers," Kirin considered between mouthfuls. "If they haven't noticed there's some weird s**t going on by now, then they're too clueless to be much help. And there's also the chance they're either behind the weird s**t, or in on it... though you'd know the exact chances of that better than I would."

Andeon returned, having finally scored food off Fallon. Kirin tensed, then slowly relaxed as Andeon turned to his food instead of bugging Kirin some more. Thank god for bottomless stomachs and minds that could only focus on one thing at a time.

Kirin’s reply didn’t exactly comfort him (though somehow, he had expected the adults to turn out to be completely useless in that case).
“Weird s**t. There’s more than the bug?” he asked. Depending of her definition of “weird s**t”, it might be fun to investigate (at this point, it was pretty much his scientific curiosity talking). Weird s**t, probably something else bug-related.
… but he would have to do that later. “Ah, look at the time. A quarter already. I should really be going now.”
Ara was done washing his fork, knife, and plate, and rapidly dried his hand with the first piece of kitchen paper. “Well then, enjoy your meals. And be careful.”
He left the kitchen back to… do something in his room. Probably to take notes made almost exclusively of numbers and diagrams in order to determine what he should expect to happen today. He’d definitely have to keep his eyes open for more information on the matter of “weird s**t”.

A light dusting of flour coated Fallon's fingertips, but not even a single powdery flurry landed on the counter, or on her shirt. Wasting product was the sign of a disorganized chef. Pulling out her whisk to whip the mixture, Fallon stared straight at Yvette, letting her muscle memory take over for the stirring work. "Fruit tarts are one of my favorite dessert items. I believe I will make one for myself too." And then they could eat together? That certainly seemed to be Fallon's plan, as resistant as Yvette might seem.

Pulling out two mini-pie pans with ruffled edges, Fallon quickly dumped the crust dough onto a flour-covered wooden board and rolled the mixture flat with her rolling pin. When that was done, she used a knife to eyeball the size of the pans, cutting out two identical circles and draping them over each metal frame. As she spoke, her fingers worked the edges, pushing the dough into the pie pan, "Fashion? Very nice. What is your aesthetic?" If Yvette loved clothing and fashion, then Fallon liked her even more. Granted, Fallon wasn't so much fashion forward as much as she was just someone who had a rigidly defined sense of style. For Fallon, that meant a kind of Stepford Wife meets Mod meets Librarian aesthetic with editor-style heels and subtle makeup -- always done up in muted shades of purple, blue, green, gray, and cream. Still, it would be nice to see Yvette's work. Perhaps their style choices intersected at some points?

The conversation about teachers being evil lingering behind her caught Fallon's attention for a moment. She did not say anything, just pursed her lips and then went back to the crust, sprinkling a handful of seasoning onto the flattened crust and popping them both in the oven for a few minutes. Kirin was rattling off conspiracy theories, and despite all the strange things that had happened to her, Fallon could not will herself to believe it. She was much more satisfied believing that it had all been hallucinations on her part. It was certainly a better outcome than having to recognize that her organized world was being manipulated by someone other than her.

In all honesty, she had no real clue how to cook beyond the bare basic microwave tricks she had taught herself. Were she mentally in a better place, she might have enjoyed watching the preparation of the food. Yet she was in such a mental scramble, all that was happening around her seemed more like a blur.

"Ab-abstract..." was the best way to describe her work, there was no use in Yvette trying to describe it any other way. Most people found it odd that someone so mild came up with such bold ideas, but there had been a time where the girl was not so mild. Unfortunately, her peers had beaten all the boldness out of her with constant teasing while she was growing up. All that was left now was the most timid of girls. Even now, while she was technically the older of the pair, emotionally she seemed very immature. Fallon was so composed, though she also could be scary, as Yvette had observed earlier.

Abstract? That could certainly mean a number of things. "That's a bit nebulous," Fallon said, crossing to the oven to pull out the half-crisped mini-pie crusts. In another bowl, she had mixed up a sweet cheese cake and yogurt concoction, along with a few more secret ingredients, and grabbing a flat rubber utensil, she began to scrape a portion of it into each crust in long, practiced strokes. "So are you avant-garde? A visionary? Are you designing elegant dresses out of toothpicks and wadded up newspaper?" The comment was made with a smile, draining out any edge of sarcasm. Fallon was intrigued by more progressive designs, but she had little desire to wear them. She stuck to her own code.

Emptying most of the contents of the bowl into the molds, Fallon crossed closer to Yvette, setting it down between them. She grabbed a spoon and held one out to the purple-haired girl. "Would you like to try the filling? I usually prefer people wait for the finished product, but this filling is a particular favorite of mine." As if to prove it, Fallon grabbed another spoon and scooped up a small chunk of the creamy mixture, popping it into her mouth. "It's quite good, I think." The mixture would need a moment to set in the crust before Fallon placed it back in the oven. Feeding Yvette seemed like a good way to pass the time, even if she wasn't literally putting the food in her mouth. The clean spoon dangled in the air between them, and Fallon waited patiently for Yvette to accept it.

"'M s-sorry, b-but, that really is as accurate a statement as I c-can make." She winced slightly, as if expecting some or harsh disagreement with her statement, but it was true. Yvette really never stuck with any particular sense of aesthetic for too long, so labeling it was pretty hard. The mention of toothpicks and newspaper was a bit silly, but in the past the girl had tried a couple of questionable mediums for her outfits as well.

Instead, she found a spoon dangling before her. Oh, she would have jumped at the opportunity if her mind wasn't trying to beat herself up. "I-it's alright, really..." she meekly stated before her stomach boldly disagreed with a rumble fit for a large bulking man. Her face grew an even brighter red color, since more than likely anybody nearby could hear her hungry stomach. Her tiny lips quivered slightly, even though she tried to play it off in a cool fashion by looking back to the ground and turning away slightly from the concoction.

Fallon did not want to accept 'no' for an answer. She tilted her head to one side, dipped the clean spoon into the filling, and held it up to Yvette. "Please," she said, her smile frozen, "I insist." She said nothing else, oblivious to all conversation around her. Fallon simply held the spoon gently in one hand and waited for Yvette to do as she was told.

The two tarts needed a few more minutes to set before she baked them. It should be enough time to get Yvette to try the filling. It really was delicious, and Fallon had no desire to be snubbed. The rest of the room continued to tick by, some worrying about nonsense dreams and others worrying about hallucinated monsters.

Terrible, really, that they felt the need to continue this conversation. Fallon certainly refused to add anything to it except the occasional annoyed glance between shared moments with Yvette.

Pierrette watched the two girls with a smile on her face. Ah, romance, even after a crazy dream and discussions of mutant bugs, it was sweet.

She looked down at her finished plate and stood up to wash the dishes, careful to avoid interrupting the obvious (well, obvious to her, anyway, and that's what mattered) blossoming romance. When that was done, she gave a wave.

"Thanks for the meal, it was delicious, Fallon!"

She then hopped up to her room, hoping to get a nap with better dreams.

Feeling utterly defeated, she didn't say a word. All she did was mutely open her mouth a tiny bit. Her eyes once again were avoiding direct eye contact, now glancing to the side rather than to the floor. She felt like such a pushover.
