Lin laughed at that, she could see how it could have happened but that was certainly an amazing chance meeting. She giggled a bit more at the thought.

"That had to be really confusing," Lin admitted, "But I can see how that could happen. The two really do look completely alike except for height."

Which really would be blamed on Shael's treatment when she was a slave, which reminded her. Lin realized she had a chance to ask Atalya if anyone had talked to her about the slavery going on. With the time difference being what it was, she had a good chance of popping a letter through the portal before anyone left the portal room.

"Ah... I just remembered," Lin looked up the table to where Atalya sat, "I have a question if you don't mind. If you heard anything from Haven? We haven't been here that long with time passing so quickly maybe I could pop a letter back to Dad today?"

He was going to have to know that it had been five years and he really should kick is a** back to the Borderlands.

"Heard ... what?" the queen asked, tilting her head slightly at Lin. "I'm sorry, but could you please be a bit more specific?"

Having been speaking with Starr, she hadn't been paying attention to the other conversation, and she wasn't sure exactly what Lin was looking for. She had regular contact with the ranch, but if Lin was looking for something in particular ...

"On my last visit five years ago," Lin explained, "Ahren took a group of fighters North and came back with a girl named Shiara. Well... girl probably isn't accurate she was fifteen."

She paused and made sure she made this clear maybe no one asked but she was sure Ahren was going to make sure everyone was involved.

"Sorry for asking randomly, and not being clear, but I want to know if anyone had come and talked to you about what they found," Lin explained, "And if anything had been planned to prevent the human slavers from entering into the settlements or trying to track down the buyers. Shiara was proof that there are still children there... and maybe if anyone has mentioned how she's doing?"

It had been to Lin the few times she had met Shiara when she had bothered to go to the Ranch that anyone could be afraid of everyone. Even Miyu, which was kind of weird to her, but probably it was far more telling that she didn't fear one race over another.

Atalya nodded. "I see. Yes, there have been many updates since you last heard, then. I know nothing of Shiara, Rhea would be able to tell you more about her, but as to the situation in the north ... King Eregon, King Estel and I have all sent out soldiers. As we speak, they are amassing around the settlement, but out of sight of the dwarfs. Plans are being drawn up to have them infiltrate. Ulani is there with them. Once the dwarfs have been taken taken under control, she will use her elfstones to search out all of the children who have been taken captive."

"The army is being led by the fighters from the ranch," Reave added. "At least, as many as Elrohir believed could be spared."

"That's good to know," Lin replied she was clearly relieved but also slightly worried but more for the fighters and for Ulani.

She really hoped that Ulani would be alright, and that she wouldn't be away for too long. It was hard for Lin to imagine Ulani being anywhere but the Borderlands.

"That's very good," she smiled, "It was worrying to hear about that and Ahren was really upset when he came back."

And she was glad to know that Elrohir offered only as many that could be spared, she knew how tense things were when a lot of the fighters had left.

"Thank you, I'll write a letter home. Dad isn't aware how fast time is becoming, and he promised to be back soon."

Atalya smiled. "Well, I'm sure there's not much that he can do right now anyways," she murmured. "Perhaps when you return from your voyage there will be more news to tell him."

"I'm sorry to say it," Rhea murmured, "but I'm afraid Her Majesty is right. If your father returned, there would be nothing for him to do. If you just let him know what's going on, that would probably be best."

This was true, and Lin was sure Shiara's recovery was probably still a very slow one. So, maybe when she got back she would tell him to visit the Ranch. She wondered how something of this size how long it would take... she would imagine a very long time.

"Then when we come back I'll suggest a visit, but until then," Lin replied, "I will write to him about what is happen so far so he doesn't feel too much out of the loop."

Her father prized information for different reasons than her mother. He liked to know what was going on, it was just the way he was.

Rhea smiled. "I'm sure he would appreciate that," she said warmly.

Earendil turned to the queen. "Do you think that we could be ready to leave first thing tomorrow morning?" he asked her. "We've been waiting for so long already, I think we're all eager to go as soon as we can."

The queen nodded. "Speak to the grooms and the kitchen staff, they'll make sure to have your horses and food ready when you need them. Other than that it's your own preparations."

Earendil nodded. "Good. We hope to leave at first light so that we can go as far as possible before the heat becomes too much." He turned to Lin. "Last time we were traveling in the winter, it's high summer now and it will be much hotter, too hot to travel in the heat of the day."

Lin thought about it for a moment and wondered if it was going to be hot like the Eastland was when she visited.

"Then it would be best to also take out clothes made for that sort of hot weather."

She was thinking lighter clothes, white and a head scarf even with her wings she did not want to risk a sun burn at this moment.

"We packed for all sorts of weather."

"Even Ura packed for the desert this time," Shiro chuckled, nudging his demonic other half. "We're ready for it."

Ura grinned and gave the thumbs-up. "Ready this time," he agreed. "I don't want to burn like that again."

Lin grinned she was glad for that otherwise the first part of their trip might be a bit difficult for Ura again, but she was sure that this time he also brought a cloak or something to keep his top head from being burnt.

"So we're all very ready this time," Lin agreed.

She was almost getting edgy with excitement.

"Though we won't know what it's like until we get out there," Lin murmured.

Even she got Senka a little thing to cover her because Senka had dark coloured fur.

"Is there anything else we should remember?"

"Lots of water?" Earendil shrugged. "Though if we follow the river down, we won't have to worry about that either."

"So what are we going to do today?" Starr asked, glancing at Storm briefly before looking back over at Earendil.

"Pack, prepare," the prince shrugged again. "Is there anything that you would like to do while we're preparing?"

Starr looked at Storm again, but her twin just stared at her. She turned back to Earendil. "I don't know."

Lin watched the interaction between Storm and Starr it was quite odd to her the way Storm acted. Though she still couldn't figure out what was wrong though she supposed it would help if she just asked.

"Maybe if Rhea you're not busy we could all go walk around the court yard," Lin suggested to Starr and Storm, "Or we could go visit Sir Valdemar."

Starr smiled and turned to Storm. "What do you think?" she asked him. "A walk would be nice, wouldn't it?"

Storm looked at Starr, then at Lin and Rhea, and then he looked back at Starr and shrugged. "I guess."

Rhea watched Storm thoughtfully. There was something about him ... something ... very sad, and very hidden away. She knew she had a few hours of packing ahead of her, but she could do that in the afternoon, could she not?

She smiled at the others. "I'm free," she assured them. "If you would like to walk through the courtyard, I would be quite happy to join you."

"That would be great," Lin replied happily.

She was really glad that Rhea would be coming along, besides Storm and Starr should get to know her since they were all going to be traveling together anyhow.

"It's probably changed since the last time anyone of us walked through, right Storm? Starr?"

She was pretty sure the last time the two were here it was spring.
