Lassa was sinking.

There was a bubble around her, perhaps a spell meant to keep the children safe... but it couldn't last long. The force of the tide that pulled her in into the water and out of Gullien's arms was too strong for this magic.

It was dark...

There was water on all sides, and she was sinking. She was not afraid, though. She was waiting. Somewhere... somewhere in her memory, in her oldest memory, someone was singing. They could tell her what to do.

You're my angel. My beautiful angel.

The bubble was breaking.

Find my loved one. Please, find them.

Lassa's chest eye opening. For the first time, it was truly open. All it could see was a blue speak swimming through the water, moving against the current like a jet. Flickering and warm and friendly. If she could wait until it got here, she would be safe. She closed her other eyes, watching with her fifth. The dot was coming, quickly.

Please, find him for me. My angel child
.

The bubble burst.

Lassa swam.

Tiny hands cupped water in their fins, pushing it down. A small tail waggled, aiding the clumsily kicking legs. Instincts older than Lassa warned her to hold her breath with all of a baby's formidable lung power. It was awkward type of swimming, jerky like a colt's first steps, or a tadpoles wriggle. She couldn't keep it up. Her arms were too weak, her body too new, her lungs too small. It didn't matter. Her chest eye was watching and the dot was here.

Polar roared up next to and past Lassa, feet tucked into his chest, wings folded. He was flying through the water with amazing speed, a gift of his polar bear/puffin lineage. She wore no clothes and so he grabbed her arm with his break, hanging on as he zoomed to the water's surface, towing her behind him, pulling her towards a frantic green dot.

Lassa followed her loved one.

There was one sickening, crushing moment when Gullien's head broke the water and there was nothing.

Another one... I've lost another child... No!

In the next moment, Polar broke the water in front of her face, Lassa's limp arm clenched in his beak. Gullien grabbed for the child, hauling Lassa out of the water.

"Lassa? Lassa!"

The little mishap coughed once, twice, her chest eye open for once and intent on Gullien. Then it closed as her normal eyes open and Lassa smiled sweetly at Gullien.

"Ah!"

"Lassa... oh god. You're okay. Lassa..." Gullien clutched the little Mishap for a moment, trembling, while the other arm wrapped around Polar. "I... adrenaline overload... oh god. Polar, can you help me get to shore?" She'd been too long from her ninja roots and this loss would have been too great... for the first time in a long time, Gullien simply couldn't cope. Lassa simply smiled, babbling happily and patting her hands in Polar's wake as he pulled them both to shore.

Gullien tried to raise when they got the shallows, fell to her knees, tried to raise again and simply collapsed. She had yet to get go of the child, she had to grip onto her own forearms to avoid just crushing Lassa. She could feel the bruises coming up on her forearms, to match the brusing on Lassa's arm, the result of beautiful Polar's rescue. Lassa cooed as Gullien shook, patting at the ninja's face with one chubby finned hand. Her little tail wagged as she smiled up at the Gullien. It was bad that Gullien was so unhappy... but now Lassa knew why she had hands like this and a tail like that. They were awkward on the land, but they were made for the water. She was made for the water. Someday, when she was as big as Gullien, she could explore all of it! Not even Sabriel could do that. Someday... but not now. Not soon.

"Ahhh..." Lassa waited patiently to go home.

But suddently a stange sensation invaded the newt Mishap

She felt cold... very cold. But it wasn't unpleasent. Actually it felt just fine if it wasn't for the odd tingle it left on the skin
The sensation kept spreading, being stronger in certain areas. Soon all the body was shivering with it, causing a kind of wetness to cover her
Then the wetness hardened and formed a translucent skin that quickly fell, taking the tingling with it

But she felt... different, more... mobile!
The first thing she noticed was the webbing on her hands. They looked just like before, but felt stronger and more elastic. The little tail had suffered more visible changes, turning in shades of blue to mimic the pattern on her hands and feet, and seemed more slender even if was still a bit short
Her hears had grew a bit longer and could now move a up and down, flapping like. And finally the last thing she took note of was her antenna eyes. They were bigger and no longer fit in her mouth, although they were as hard and springy as ever

Gullien staggered as the weight in her arms suddenly increased. Grasping at the child, she gasped as a thick wet layer of... skin? dripped off Thylassa. Her baby was gone, and a toddler was in her place. For a moment she simply gaped as Lassa shook her head and looked around. Was this still... yes, the smell was the same and the appearence was certainly still the same and not something monsterous like Sabriel had become... Lassa had simply become... older.

Lassa shrieked happily, clapping her new hands and then stopping to stare at them. The restrictive webbing felt looser. She could waggle her fingers again! Her butt felt different too... she let her antenna eyes hang backwards, peering over her shoulder. Her tail! It was bigger and bluer. Still not a cool tail yet, but much much better than it was before. She waggled it experimentally. Yee!

She beamed happily up at Gullien. "Yee!"

Gullien, rather overwhelmed by the whole event, simply peered back. "Uh. Huh. Let's... let's just go back to HQ now." She said faintly.

s**t. What was Lassa going to wear on the way back?

Gullien groaned as the morning light hit her eyes. Early, early, early. But she was an early riser, if not by nature than by routine. Stretching out for a moment, she pulled to her full length, enjoying the loud crack her spine made. Mmmmm. Okay. Gotta get up, make breakfast, feed the kid, change the kid, smell the laundry... wait. Gullien's brow furrowed as she felt with one hand in the blankets around her, eyes still closed. No Lassa... no Lassa... were had the little squirt...

OOF!

That question was abruptly answered as a substantially heavier than yesterday Lassa dropped like a stone onto Gullien's stomach.

"Hurg!"

"Yaaaaaaa! Gul-len! Gul-len-len-len!"

What?

"L-lassa? What did you just say?"

"Gul-len!" The little girl beamed, fully aware of what she had just achieved. Gul-len's name! She said it! Her, her, her!

Gullien gaped at Lassa and then threw her head back and began emitted sharp merry barking noises, the closest she came to a human laugh. Lassa laughed back and shrieked joyfully when Gullien rolled carefully over her, catching the little squirt in a hug and blowing raspberries onto her chest.
"Lassa! You're talking! Say my name!"

"Gul-len!"

"Now your name!"

"Lah-sah! TIE-lah-sah!"

Not quite right, but still freaking good. Was this because of her radical growth spurt, that she was crawling one day and talking the next? Not too good with the pronounciation, but any talking at all was a big step up from yesterday. And this was like extreme talking too. All of a sudden Lassa had a vocabulary.

"Po-la'! 'Ona! Toh-toto! Uh... oh! Gul-len! Gul-len!" Lassa reached up not-as-little-as-before hands and grabbed two convienent hanks of Gullien's hair.

"Ow! What is it, squirt?"

"Bekfast!"

"Breakfast? You're hungry? I can make you something if you-"

"NO! Lah-sah, bekfast!" Lassa grinned up at Gullien, waving her little hands up at her. Gullien simply blinked back down.

"You're not hungry? Do you want me to-"

"NOOOO! Lah-sah, bekfast!" Frustrated with words, Lassa pointed emphatically at the "kitchen" corner of the room. Gullien glanced over... and rather wished she hadn't.

The mini-fridge's door had been pulled open and nearly all of it's contents had been pulled out and scattered on the floor. Although Lassa was immaculate, the same could not be said for the kitchen area. The new carton of bread she'd bought had been opened and almost half of it removed. The crusts were scattered about the container, their innards clearly yanked out by a chubby toddler fist. The ramen was open too and there were dried noodles ground into the carpet. Milk was dripping slowly from the nearly empty carton next to the couch. The veggies were clearly unimportant, they'd been haphazardly stuffed under the coffee table excepting one large eggplant, which had been stuffed into Polar's food bowl. The griffon was staring at it, clearly disgruntled, which served him right for not stopping this mess when he'd had the chance.

"Lah-sah bekfast!"

The crowning achievement was sitting in the frying pan on the now rather damp coffee table. Breadballs, covered with ramen and raisens and nearly a full carton of eggs, eggshells included, and a goodly amount of a carton of milk. Lassa had been angling for french toast, of a sort.

"You... made breakfast for us, Lassa." Gullien replied, staring with rapt fascination at the shrine to culinary disasters sitting on her furniture. "That's... that's really wonderful. Well, I'll just cook it up and we'll have a nice breakfast, okay?"

"Yah!" Lassa cheered. Gullien was so preoccupied in thinking of ways to make that mess edible that she almost missed Lassa's second big change. Lassa was... crawling. Not the akward scooting of before, but a very fast four-footed trot, tailed rump in the air. She looked rather remarkably like Polar. She was rather fast like Polar too and like Polar, she could probably stand on her hind legs with just a little support. She could now get into almost anything.

Gullien was in trouble.

And Lassa still had nothing to wear.

The room looked like a bomb had struck it. A fashionable bomb. Lassa sat in the epicenter of more or less every piece of clothing she'd recieved since Gullien had recieved her. None of it fit. Gullien was ready to start bashing her head against the floor. Lassa however, was happily sucking on a sock with a pair of baby-sized pants on her head. Zen in action, really.

"That's it? There's really nothing left?"

"Unless you want me to root around under the couch again, we've tapped the place out. Kappa here doesn't fit into anything, anymore."

Lassa beamed up at the little Nim at the mention of the word 'Kappa'. Gullien grimaced.

"Don't call her that. I know you mean it to be cute, but those things are bastards. Hard as hell to kill and when they get blood in them, they never stop coming."

Mona shrugged, looking a bit put-out.
"If they're so bad, then why do they make them look so cute? I've seen your scrapbook."
She shrugged as Gullien shot her a glare. "Fine, fine. Imori? Sansyou-Uo? Bubbles?"

She squeaked as a sock caught her in the face.

"You COULD call her Lassa. It's only her name." Bleah. Gullien sighed again. Nim could be so bloody particular about names though. Some of them didn't care and some of them... for some Nim, names held power. Mona was one of the latter. Now that Lassa was getting older, Mona was apparently trying to turn her power of Lassa over to Gullien, if only in a symbolic sense. Weenie. "Sansyou-Uo, then. I always liked those big salamanders. No Sans though, you'll give her a complex." Flopping backwards, Gullien grabbed at the little Mischief, hoisting her up onto her chest and jiggling her. "Whatcha think Lassa? Sansyou-Uo? They're giant salamanders. Grow 5 feet and they'll eat anything. Myth says they walk through fire unharmed, although you better not try that." Lassa simply squealed happily and wiggled, dropping the soggy sock on Gullien's chest.

"Bleah."
Gullien lowered Lassa to her chest, letting the little toddler reclaim her sock as she brushed dark fingers through blue hair. Bigger... but Lassa was still so fragile. She'd gotten this far though. That had to count for something.

"So... now what? We can't keep her in pillowcase diapers forever. Either she'll catch pneumonia or we'll run out of pillowcases."

"I knoooooow. I guess we'll have to take her shopping. There's no help for it. Maybe it'll be a learning experience for her. She's never been out of the Mishap complex before."

"You're taking her shopping in a pillowcase diaper?"

Okay.... yeah. That didn't look too good...
"I'll just stick her in an old shirt of mine. Hopefully people will think it's a dress."

"They'll think you're poor and she's in a t-shirt."

"Oh, lemme alone. I don't see you wearing any clothes you could contribute."

The little nim shrugged, looking smug. Nim didn't catch pneumonia.

"Ugh. Maybe I can borrow clothes from someone. Who do we know? Kunjiro's clothes probably won't work. He has that cape thingy... on his back. Rex is too old and Odnako is too young. Sabriel..."
Mona, Gullien and Lassa all paused to consider what condition Sabriel's clothes were probably in.

"Sabriel isn't an option. Maybe I can just knock on someone's door and beg for clothes."

"Eh, why not? This place is crawling in kids. Someone's gotta have something."

Gullien nodded, rolling Lassa off her chest and onto the floor. Alright. So... it was a crap plan, but it was a plan. That was the important thing, right?

Group RP: Rhetta and Red

Gullien
Gullien glanced around the hall, Lassa hanging off of one leg. Lassa was... well, she was dressed, if you called wearing an adult-sized t-shirt that read "Real Ultimate Power" and a diaper fashioned from a pillowcase dressed. At least the shirt mostly fit. It was clear that Lassa was going to need something else though. If Gullien tried to take her to a store like this, someone would probably call child services three seconds after they walked in the door. Sighing, Gullien shrugged and picked a door at random. Worse that would happen was that whoever was there didn't have clothes that would fit Lassa. Everyone's kid grew randomly, it seemed. Surely other people had had this problem.
... Right?

Whatever. She knocked, simply hoping someone would be home.

Huni Pi
"Yes, is there something you need?" Haze asked as she opened the door. She wasn't dressed to entertain, at least not by her standards. She sported a black cotton shirt that clung to her body like a second skin, and pants with bright red sequins sewn in a cobweb-like pattern. She stood in the doorway, her head slightly inclined to the side as she stared at the pair before her.

Retta padded up from behind Haze and peered around her guardian's legs. Was the green-skinned one another Mishap? It certainly seemed like that to the Sheep Mishap.

Gullien
Gullien eyed the rather shiny new person. Red. Whole lotta red. Hokay... She perked when she saw the small Mishap girl standing behind the woman though. Score! Female and the right age. "Hi." She greeted back simply. Best to just jump to the chase. "Sorry to bother you. I'm your neighbor." She flopped a hand in the rough direction of her room. "Gullien. And this is Thylassa. I was wondering if I could borrow some clothes from you. Lassa has had a rather abrupt growing spurt and I don't have anything to dress her in so I can take her to the store and get new clothes." As if to prove the point, Lassa's oversized shirt slipped off one shoulder, the collar falling almost all the way down to her elbow. Geez, she might as well have had dressed the kid in a burlap sack.

Lassa peered around Gullien's leg, hanging onto Gullien's pants as she stared at the two new people. One was... really shiny. Shiny on the bottom and black on top and all red hair. The other one behind the shiny one looked like she was her age though. She was all furry, too. Curious now, Lassa hauled herself up by pulling on Gullien's pants, causing the ninja to clutch at them least they fall off. Lassa still didn't have the hang of walking, but she was good at getting vertical. "Ha?"

Huni Pi
Haze gave Lassa a quick look, did she truly want to lend her own charge's clothing to a complete stranger? Neighbor or not it wasn't as simple as borrowing a bottle of brandy, clothing was personal, intimate. It reveals so much of a person's character, styles, choices, tastes. Her mental litany would have gone on longer had she not remembered Gullien and Thylassa's names had been those on the card they received a few months ago. Her expression took a drastic change from the cold, unaffected mask to a warm, and delighted smile.

"By Yrast, you're the ones who gave us that charming little card. Come in, come in, I shall have my servant bring us some refreshments." Haze instructed as she pulled open the door wider.

Retta cocked her head to the side at Lassa, she wasn't sure which of Lassa's eyes was she going to look at.

"H'lo..." she shyly greeted, and would have clutched at Haze's legs had her guardian not suddenly moved to welcome the pair into her room.

Gullien
Gullien blinked at the red person's sudden change in demenor. Cards? Did she mean the New Years cards she and Lassa had sent out all those months ago? She blinked again as the door was suddenly pulled open. Yrast? Servents? This was going to be... interesting. She wasn't wild about walking into this unknown person's territory, but... Lassa needed pants. "Thank you." She said simply, walking into the room, with Lassa still clinging onto her leg like a little koala. "Your generosity is appreciated." Who was this person? She had no idea of her name at all and no idea how to admit that.

Lassa clung to Gullien's leg, eyeing the other Mishap with her normal eyes while letting her bobble eyes take in the new area they were in. Where was this? "He-yo." She tried back, still not very good with words. Unsure of what else to add to that, she did her best to copy Gullien. "'Lassa." She told the other girl in her best attempt at an introduction. Not sure of what else to add, she swung her arm around Gullien's other leg and peered at the fluffy girl from between Gullien's legs, little caring that she had rather effectively stopped her guardian from moving.

Huni Pi
"Think nothing of it." Haze responds as she headed towards a door. She disappeared through the doorway that leads to her room. She returns a few moments later, carrying several dresses and a few pairs of pants. Most of them had frills, lace and bows sewn on while others had intricate patterns printed on them. She didn't want to tell Gullien that Retta had refused to wear these, and so did Huni's charge (though the latter was more because Huni viewed it as an insult to accept rejects).

"Here, you and your charge are welcome to select from any of these pieces."

"Lassa." Retta echoed, allowing her tongue to become accustomed to the new word. She cocked her head to the side at Lassa's position, wasn't it more comfortable to be on the floor? She would never have thought to cling at Haze like that. Hide maybe, but not cling. It showed she was too dependent on Haze and her guardian had told her image was everything.

Her brown eyes blinked curiously upon seeing Haze return with the rejected clothing. She didn't like them and would never ever consider wearing them. Hence she didn't consider them hers. Thankfully, because if she had there would be hell to pay...

Gullien
Gullien stared at the pile of fabric Red was carrying in. Were those... clothes? She recognized the pants or at least something that was some sort of weird mutation of pants. She couldn't make heads or tails of the rest of it. Hopefully she'd be able to identify what it was when the clothes started being seperated out. She'd never seen so much in one place. The little tea cup Mishap must certainly love clothes. Or something.
"Wow..." she said weakly, feeling that that the clothing wad probably deserved some sort of special recognition. "That... that is certainly a lot of clothes. I'm sure we'll find something Lassa will look great in in there. Thank you so much." She bowed formally, awkwardly getting a hand down between her legs to push Lassa down in a bow as well.
"Okay. Wanna see if there's anything that calls to you in there, Lassa?"
She staggered rather awkwardly over to Red, Lassa still hanging onto her.

"Lassa." Lassa replied to the other girl, not sure how to ask for the other girl's name. Maybe if she repeated her name the other girl would figure it out? Her attempt was cut short though as Gullien pushed down lightly on her head, pushing her into a bow and pulling her attention back to the woman. What was that? Was that a blanket? She blinked as her eyes caught on a lone pants leg. Were those all clothes? She'd never seen so many clothes before! She'd never seen so many things put on clothes either. Bows and meshy stuff like Gullien wore and other pieces of clothes...
Awed, she simply hung off of Gullien's legs, letting Gullien more or less drag her over to the pile.

Huni Pi
"Oh goodness me, there is no need to bow. A mere thank you would have sufficed." Haze laughed, though inwardly she quite enjoyed the bow, it reminded her of her servants back in Wyndre Manor. "What sort of style does your little one prefer? Pants or dresses?" she asks, she might be able to help them choose.

The sheep Mishap curstied (or did her best to make one) to the other girl before pointing to herself.

"Retta." She introduced simply, smiling at the girl who had multiple eyes. She toddled after them as the pair headed over to pick from the clothes. Retta wanted to give her advice on which pieces were nice, but then again she did remember why she refused to touch these clothes in the first place.

They were just too extravagant for her tastes.

Gullien
Gullien glanced down at Lassa, who thoughtfully tugged at one of Gullien's pant's legs. "She prefers pants, I suppose. I've never tried to put her in a dress." Probably best not to mention that Gullien had absolutely no idea whatsoever about how to even wear a dress, let alone put it on something small and squirmy. Besides, she'd just keep Lassa in diapers most of the time. Why make more work for herself?
"Actually, she really likes just wearing diapers most of all, but I certainly can't take her out like that. Although it doesn't matter too much which she likes best; she can't wear anything that's tight across her chest. She's got another eye and it's sensitive." Lassa beamed. Apparently recognizing one of those words, she pulled up the loose t-shirt and showed off her closed chest eye to Red and... what was her name? Rhetta? "Yes, that's great. Thank you, Lassa." Gullien told her, pulling down the t-shirt again with a touch of embarrassment. Way to flash everybody, kiddo. "The most important thing is something that doesn't put pressure on that eye." She gently shook Lassa off her leg, nudging the little newt over to Rhetta. "Do you think you have anything like that?" Gullien asked Red hopefully, moving to stand next to the pile.

Lassa tottered a step or two from where Gullien had moved her before collapsing to the floor again, waving cheerfully at Rhetta as she went down squarely on her padded bottom. "'Etta!" It was simplier and easier to just scuttle on all fours over to where the other good stood. "'Etta home?" She asked, looking around the room. Was this were Rhetta lived? It didn't look like her home at all!
"'Etta room?"

Huni Pi
Haze didn't quite know what to make of Lassa's penchant to be dressed only in diapers. Was it a sign of a budding exhibitionist? The Silarian woman only hoped it wasn't so, because if the other Mishap were to become one Haze would have to keep Retta as far away from her as possible. The last thing she wanted for the Sheep Mishap was to pick up any unsavory ideas.

All this, however was kept concealed behind a smile and eyes tapered into jovial slits.

"I see, perchance this pair would suit her?" Haze suggests, pulling out a pair of seagreen pants from the pile. They were made of a sort of denim, only a little softer and less tough. A criss-cross of glitter and ribbons were sewn directly onto the fabric, they did nothing to hinder movement but they were quite... decorative.

"As for her top..." Haze looked thoughtful for a moment before selecting a white mesh shirt with a pale green sleeveless undershirt. "This would have looked darling on Retta, and I'm certain it would look just as nice on your charge."

"Yes, room mine." The sheep Mishap nodded with a slight emphasis on the word 'mine.' "What Lassa room?" she asked, wondering how different were their living conditions. Did the other Mishaps have toys in every corner and lots of beanies and plushies? If they didn't, Retta couldn't help but feel somewhat smug about it.

Gullien
Lassa tilted her head thinking. 'Etta's room was big and full of stuff. It was pretty nice. Not nice like her room, but nice! "Lassa room... there." She said, pointing in the direction of where thought they came from. She thought for a moment. How to describe it. "Big. Umm... got Pola' un Mona." More thinking. "Is wet." She finally described. That was everything there that was important besides Gullien. Polar and Mona and the constant comfortable mist in her room. 'Etta's room would be nicer with those. But it was still a good room. "'Etta room nice." She offered.

"Hey, kiddo." Gullien tapped Lassa on the head, smiling as all four eyes turned to her. "Wanna try on something new? You'd probably look really good in it."

The bobble eyes blinked as Lassa thought about it, eyeing the clothes in the shiny person's hands before nodding enthusiastically. They were shiny too!

Gullien crouched and held out the pair of pants, half-helping Lassa into them and half-stuffing her in before she could fall over again. They fit pretty well, even over the impromptu diaper. Retta must be a little taller than Lassa was. Fortunately Lassa had worn pants before, so she didn't put up the fuss she might have for an unfamiliar outfit like one of those dresses. Gullien didn't have the suffer the indigity of admitting she had no idea how to put a dress on Lassa either. "Hands up. Reach for the sky." Lassa obediently lifted her hands in the air, letting Gullien pull the shirt over her head. Like the pants, it was a shade too large, meaning it was comfortably loose across her chest and her chest eye. "How's that working for you?"

Lassa wobbled a few steps before collapsing by the shiny person. Shaking one leg, she eyed the movement and the sparkle of the glitter and ribbons. Pretty... very pretty. Curious, she plucked gently at some of the ribbon, wondering vaguely what it tasted like. She declined to pull it off when she found it didn't feel appetizing, despite the appealing shiny and shape. Instead, she did the next best thing. She scooted around to face 'Etta, throwing her arms wide so the little sheep could see her new bounty. "'Etta!"

Gullien watched Lassa finger the clothes and then show them off with a sigh of relief. No immediate destruction and they basically fit. Looked pretty good too, although it wasn't something she would have chosen to stick the kid in. "Looks like she likes them. What do you think?" she asked, defering to Red who seemed to have a strong opinion on clothes.

Huni Pi
"The colors certainly match her, can she move in the properly? Retta dislikes pants since they don't have a hole for her tail and teacup." Haze explains, eyeing Lassa thoughtfully.

"Is nice." The sheep mishap nodded, even though she didn't like the clothes personally, they did look good on Lassa. "Lassa pretty." she adds with a small blush, her tail swishing to and fro.

Gullien
Gullien watched Lassa's scooting for a moment before nodding. "I think she'll be okay. She has a tail too, but it's pretty small. It's probably not as sensitive as Retta's." She glanced down at Retta's long tail, noticing the tea cup for the first time. A teacup. Huh... How did she even fit it in pants?
"What kind of a Mishap is Retta?" Gullien asked curiously. "Lassa's compenents were newt and bobble eyes. Is Retta part sheep?" It would explain the hair. Although not the teacup.

Lassa blinked at 'Etta for a moment before turning her top two eyes to Gullien. "Was itty?"

"Pretty means she thinks you look nice Lassa. You should say thank you."

Nice? Pretty meant nice? "Ank yu, 'Etta." Lassa told the other girl very seriously. If 'Etta said something nice, she should say something nice too. "'Etta itty too!" 'Etta was pretty, like soft blanket Gullien used when it was really cold with all the patterns. ""Etta soft." She added happily. Soft was the best part of the pretty blanket, after all and 'Etta looked real soft, like Totoro.

Huni Pi
"Yes, she is in fact. I was informed briefly that she was created with wool legwarmers and a teacup. The rest of her history is vague at best." Haze explained. "Does Lassa have any... abilities of sorts?" she asked, it wasn't an innocent question truthfully. Haze wanted to asses how many Mishaps would prove to be competition for her charge. But her bright smile and the sparkle in her eyes radiated charm and a genuine curiosity. Oh, Haze was wonderful at maintaining her image, the Silarian only hoped Retta would be gifted in that department as well.

The Sheep Mishap bleated in delight, her cheeks blushing slightly as she adjusted the pleats of her skirt. So Lassa likes soft things, perhaps she would like a Sheepie then. Retta would have to make one for her, most definately in order to ensure they would remain on positive terms.

"Thank you." Retta responded. "Lassa have dolls?" she asked, in the event Lassa did have stuffed animals, Retta could only hope the other Mishap didn't have any sheep ones.

Gullien
"Abilites? Well, she's an excellent swimmer. She could swim even as an infant, which I'm told is unusual. Other than that, I'm not sure. I'm positive that there's something unusual about her chest eye, but I'm sure it'll all come out in time. Other than that, I don't believe so. I'm certain she doesn't have any magical abilities." Gullien said the last firmly, arms crossed. Lassa just... didn't. Just because she was composed of magic, that didn't mean that she had to inheriently have any magical abilities. And that was going to be that. " And Rhetta? Does she have any abilities?" Gullien asked, curious. What abilities did tea and clothes have, anyway? The ability to be made from plants?

Lassa considered the question for a moment, brow puckering. "Dolls?" She'd seen dolls before, in magazines and once at the store but she didn't actually own any. Totoro didn't count, probably. Dolls looked like people. Normal people. But the Nim were like dolls, for not normal people. They were cool and you played with them. "Lassa gots Mona." She told Retta happily. "Dis big an' wings an' all blue. Dat's only one. Lassa gots an-ni-mials dolls though. Tororo an' a dog an' a da... a dagon." She didn't have too many animals though. Polar kept getting into them, the big jerk. " 'Etta got dolls?" She parroted the question back. Maybe 'Etta had Nim too?

Huni Pi
"I'm not all too certain whether Retta possesses any magical abilities as well. But she does show remarkable dexterity, especially whenever she makes these little plush dolls." Haze gestured to a small sheep-like toy on the cabinet. "Lassa is a swimmer, you say? How interesting, I'm sure she'll become even more skilled as she grows older."

Retta's ears flickered absently as Lassa told her of her collection of dolls. "Have only one." She confessed almost in embarrassment. She had tons of beanies and balls, and books and other toys. Oddly enough, her only doll was the sheep plush she made. She pointed it out to Lassa,

"Lassa wan sheepie?" she offered shyly, oh it would be no problem for her to make a plush for Lassa.

Gullien
Gullien glanced over at Lassa worriedly. "Yes... she probably will..." Frankly, she'd be happy if Lassa became LESS skilled as she got older. This swimming thing was just no good at all, in her opinion. Shaking herself slightly, Gullien looked over at the sheep doll Red was pointing too. "Retta sews? She made that whole thing herself, huh?" She wasn't sure if she should pick it up or not to look at it... best not too. Still, even from here she could see that was very skilled for someone Retta's age. "Wow, that's really good! Did you teach her?"

Lassa put a hand in her mouth, concerned. Wan sheep? But... that was 'Etta's sheep, right? Was 'Etta offering her her sheep? "Sheep 'Etta's... right?" She asked, worried. She WOULD like the sheep and normally she'd have jumped all over the offer, being rather open-minded on the concept of private property... but 'Etta's sheep seemed special, like Totoro. Lassa would NEVER give away Totoro. Maybe to Gullien, but that wasn't the same at ALL.

Gullien glanced down, catching the tail end of the exchange and jumping to the same conclusion that Lassa did. "Oh, Retta, you don't have to give Lassa your sheep. You made that yourself, right? It must be very special to you. But it's a very nice offer. Isn't it, Lassa?"

Lassa nodded enthusiastically. "Sheep nice! Is itty!"

Huni Pi
"I could only hope that people mistake her gift as something I passed onto her. But no, she learned it all on her own. Although I wouldn't quite say she does things from scratch, one of my servants had presented her with a pattern and all she had to do was follow the procedures." Haze had to feign modesty, she was proud of Retta for being able to do something the Silarian was pesonally horrible at doing.

The sheep mishap blinked in confusion, it took her a few moments before she realized they thought she was offering her the sheepie. Goodness no, NO! Retta wasn't about to part with her first ever sheepie, or anything that she considered hers for that matter. "No, no, Lassa wan 'noder sheepie."

Listening to her charge, Haze could only assume what Retta really meant. "I believe she is offering to make one for Lassa, she has a penchant for making these dolls for those she has met." Haze explained, "Isn't that correct, Retta?"

Retta nodded, glad that her guardian had managed to express her ideas better. It frustrated Retta somewhat that her thoughts weren't coming across the way she wanted them, she would have to study extra hard to learn all those words it seems.

Gullien
One of the servents taught Rhetta to sew? Uh... huh. Red was kinda hand's off, wasn't she? Red knew what Rhetta was saying though... maybe Red just wasn't very handy. "Well, in that case, I'm sure Lassa would appreciate it greatly, if it's not too much trouble. It's very kind of you to offer us such a thing, Rhetta. What'cha say, Lassa?"

"Ank yu?" Lassa asked Gullien, reaching out to hang off her guardian's leg again.

"To Rhetta, this time."

"Ank yu, 'Etta!" Lassa said promptly, smiling from around Gullien's leg. She frowned for a moment, and then tugged sharply on Gullien's pants, forcing her guardian to grab at them again. "Me gif too!"

"You want to make something for Rhetta too, huh?"

"Ya!"

"Hmmm... well, looks like you might get a gift as well, Rhetta. Although I'm not sure what..." There was no way she was giving Lassa a needle. There were WAY too many eyes involved for anything pointy. Lassa still didn't have the coordination for a lot of the traditional craft-work that Gullien had learned either. "Well, I guess it'll be a mystery."

Huni Pi
"Oh a gift isn't neccessary, but it would be appreciated, is that not correct Retta?" Haze smiled to her charge, pleased that these two weren't the sort who were tight on money. She only hoped it would, at the very least, equal Retta's gift.

Inwardly Retta grinned in an almost malicious delight, she knew these sheepies would prove useful. Her outward reaction however was that of an awkward bleat as she scuffed her feet on the carpeted floor.
"No haf to." She told Lassa, her cheeks taking a mild tinge of pink.

Gullien
"Wanna." Lassa said back, promptly. It was answer enough for her, really. She put one fist to her mouth for a moment. What would she make for 'Etta? Maybe 'Etta would like on of her toys... or maybe a dinosaur. Everyone liked dinosaurs. She could probably find one if she looked hard.

"Well, I guess that settles that, then." Gullien grinned slightly, as Lassa replied bluntly to Red and Rhetta. Kid was honest, you had to give her that. "And I hate to say it, but I think we're going to need to leave soon before the shops close and we have to find clothes all over again for tommorow. Ready to go, kiddo?"

"Ya! Ank yu for da clothes!"

"Good girl. Thank you both very much for your kindness. We owe you a favor. When you need to call it in, please let me know." What would have been meaningless, if odd, words from another person were very binding words to the ninja. If Red or Rhetta needed something. They had but to call it in; a favor for a favor.

Forty-five minutes into the store and the saleswoman had not stopped staring at Gullien and Lassa. Her eyes would start at Gullien's tail, go up to to her bare scarred arms, followed them down to Lassa's hands on the shopping cart handle, then up Lassa's blue and pink arms to her fins and her bobble eyes, from the bobble eyes to Gullien's headband, and then back down again to Gullien's rump. She'd been making this visual circuit since Gullien and Lassa had walked through the door and frankly Gullien had now become so sensitive to her gaze that everytime the circle started over again her tail would bush just a little more. Worst of all, they had no where else in the store to go. All the little girl's closes were right here, in this department and this clerk just kept drifting slowly after them and staring.

Not that Lassa cared. The little mishap was talking it like a pro, babbling at each new and exciting thing, admiring her new clothes, demanding other shoppers admire her new clothes. Thankfully Gullien had corralled her into the kiddy seat in the shopping cart early on, otherwise the little girl would probably have been half-way down the street by now, babbling happily to the passerbyers the whole time. Thankfully, Lassa seemed still too little to understand that not every gaze they were getting was friendly. Still, most weren't hostile either. Just the average weight of curiosity that said "You aren't normal."

Granted, they had a bit of a reason to stare this time around. From the sheer amount of stuff in the cart it was clear that Lassa was getting a whole new wardrobe. Gullien hadn't been too picky, she'd simply grabbed anything that looked reasonable and wouldn't be tight around Lassa's fifth eye.

Overalls and dress-overalls, about the only dresses she could easily figure out how to stuff Lassa into. Loose shirts that reminded her of the traditional wear she'd seen on summer Kentaro statues, although these were meant to be worn with pants, thank god. A goodly number of tank-tops, about six or seven. They would be useless in the winter, but it was spring now and Lassa never really seemed to mind the temperature all that much. Underwear of course, and out of all the objects in the cart it was the underwear that Lassa had the biggest opinion about. Not this one, not that one, all of these ones, only the blue of those and only certain cartoon characters from shows that Gullien was positive Lassa hadn't seen. New pajamas for both of them with a blue sakura theme, part of a "Mommy and Me" set that was too cute to pass up. Socks. Lassa could not seem to stop grabbing at socks not matter what they looked like. Gullien had just put them back, catching on early that Lassa didn't really realize what they were for. She was used to them being Polar chew toys and no doubt wanted to share the wealth with her pet back home.

And of course, the toys. Hey, it did make sense. What had interested Lassa as a baby wasn't going to do anything for her now. So when a box of blocks or a puzzle or two fell into the cart by way of small graspy hands, Gullien pretended not to notice. The only thing she would have put her foot down on was dolls and thankfully Lassa was utterly uninterested in those freaky little homaculi, instead grabbing eagerly at bathtoys and stuffed animals and books with big bright pictures.

"Okay, kidlet. We're about done. We've just got everything on the list for here except for the shoes. I wonder where the shoes are?" Gullien glanced over at the trailing clerk, hoping the loudly asked question would jar her into doing something. No dice, the clerk was still just standing there looking at them with a bovine expression.

"I wonder where the shoes are." Gullien asked again, staring directly at the girl. Nothing. Moo.

"WHERE. ARE. THE. SHOES?"

"Huh? I... I'm sorry, do you need something?" Apparently shouting and widely spaced words were enough to jar the young lady from her zoned-out status. Too bad she STILL hadn't answered the damn question.

"Shoes!" Lassa chimed in, beaming at the clerk.

"Oh, you want the shoe department? Oh, it's over there." The girl flung a hand out in a vague direction and resumed staring. So helpful!

"Thank you." Gullien gritted out in response. Thank god she could finally leave this department.

"Tanks!"

She was almost afraid the girl was going to follow them to the shoe department, but she stopped on the edge of the children's department and simply stood there as if on an invisible leash and watched them leave, mouth hanging open.

"Lassa, when you're old enough for a part-time job, it's not going to be in retail."

"Huh?"

The shoe department wasn't very big, but how many shoes did Lassa really need? Even better, the clerk here was a large matronly woman with her hair in a bun and a frank gaze that met Lassa and Gullien squarely in the eyes. Well, as many eyes as she reasonably could with Lassa. I have seen it all before. Her gaze said. I have seen it and I have given it shoes. Enter my domain and be shod.

"Good afternoon, ladies. Can I help you find anything?"

"Yes, actually. My niece here needs a new pair of shoes, but I don't know her size. Or what shoe's she'd like." Lassa had gone barefoot as a baby. It wasn't like she could walk anywhere.

The woman simply raised an eyebrow at both the comment and the cart full of clothes, and Gullien eagerly trotted out the excuse she'd spent all morning working on. "She's visiting me, but I'm afraid all of her luggage got lost by the airline. When I got her she only had this and a carry-on full on animal crackers." Lassa blinked at Gullien, but she'd already had a quick debriefing this morning on lies and their uses. She still looked very unhappy about the comment on visiting, but she didn't say anything either. The saleswoman, on the other hand, looked both appeased and sympathetic.

"Poor little thing! Imagine something like that happening! Those airlines... will you get her luggage back at all?"

"They said we'd get it in a week or so, but I'm not very confident about it. We kind of need clothes now, too." Gullien replied, distracted with the task of getting Lassa out of the cart. The little girl was geting better about being held... but she still hated it. She was much more comfortable if she was the holder rather than the holdee and so she was not so much lifted out of the cart as she was scrambling down Gullien, the human ladder. If the shoe clerk had an opinion on this, Gullien didn't notice. The woman was busy digging around one of the shelves for something.

"Here we are. Just put your foot in here, deary."

Both Gullien and Lassa simply stared at the metal contraption the woman put down. What WAS it? It looked like a medieval torture device. Gullien had been made with the shoe size she had now, and she barely remembered anything about her first few days as a human, let alone shoe shopping.

"Um..." As the mature adult, Gullien took it upon herself to shove Lassa forward to the wolves. Lassa meeped unhappily at the parental guidance, but stepped forward and offered the salelady one bare blue foot gamely.

"Dis?"

"Not quite dear. Over here. No, here. No, right here. Watch out, it's a little-"

"YEEP!"

"-cold. Here we go then. She's a size 19." The woman told Gullien, who nodded wisely as if that meant something. "Now, is she a runner or a crawler?"

"What?"

"Can she walk yet? Or is she still in the crawling stage?" There are different shoes for those stages." The woman had clearly begun to figure out that Gullien was completely at sea. Gullien, whom had worn the same shoes when she had learned to crawl and run, was also beginning to figurr out she was completely at sea.

"She's a crawler now. But I think she's going to start walking very soon." Probably. Lassa started talking and crawling very quickly after her growth. Walking was sure to follow.

"Alright then, we'll go ahead and looking into the shoes for walkers." The woman glanced at Gullien, glanced around at the shelves, down at Lassa and then back to Gullien. "Why don't you just sit down and I'll bring out a variety of shoes."

Gullien briefly considered taking offense (sure she'd never been fitted before, but she had shopped for shoes before) but a glance over at Lassa showed the she was attempting industriously to upend a tower of boots onto herself. Sitting was probably for the best. "That would be great, thank you. Squirt-o, over here!"

Lassa squirmed unhappily when Gullien scooted in into one of the seats, but perked up again when Gullien gave her the metal size-finder thing to play with. And apparently chew on.

"Lassa, knock that off. Kids you don't know have had their feet all over that. You could be eating Sabriel foot germs. If you really want something to chew on, I think I have some... wait. When did you get teeth?"

Lassa beamed up at Gullien, having dropped the metal-thing at the mention of Sabriel. "Eeth! Gnaw, gnaw, gnaw!" She gnashed her mouth in a some sort of gnawing motion. "Shark!" Bringing her hands up, she mimiced a big mouth opening and closing. Apparently her mouth wasn't enough to convey the full sense of shark. Gullien simply blinked at her, still in a mild sort of shock. Lassa had NOT had teeth that morning. Gullien was sure of it. Granted, she might have been distracted by the french toast, but she'd once made a profession out of being observent and that mouth had been empty this morning. Now though... she clearly have a full set of what were probably baby teeth.

"Oh my, are you a shark?" The clerk asked, returning with box upon box of shoes.

"Yee!" Lassa turned her shark arms on the clerk since Gullien clearly wasn't appreciating them enough. The clerk mugged surprised horror, Lassa rose to the occasion and Gullien barely snapped out of her fuge in time to keep Lassa's chair from falling over.

"Be careful there, honey. You have to save some excitement for the shoes! Now, since you like sharks so much, I bet you'll LOVE these shoes. Do you know who this is?" The clerk held up a pair of tiny little shoes with some sort of cartoon on them.

"Nemo!"

"That's right. Here we go. Do you like them?"

Lassa looked down at her feet, one shod and one bare. Her reaction was not instantanious, but instead slow and gathered, like spring snow slipping gently off a mountain into an avalance that killed everyone in its path.

"NOOOOOOOOO!"

Both Gullien and the saleclerk jumped at Lassa's shriek. Gullien twitched, one hand falling to her pocket and the switchblade in it, instincts calling on her to protect her child. Protect her children from a shoe! Stupid freakin' instincts!

"Lassa, what's wrong?" Gullien twitched in a useless adrenaline overload as Lassa continued shrieking and crying.

"OFF! OFF! OFFOFFOFFOFF! AAAAAAAHHHHH!" The clerk, clearly practiced in this, yanked the shoe off immediently and Lassa's screams abruptly stopped, as though someone had yanked her cord. Sniffling, she crawled over the armrest and into Gullien's lap, hiding her face in the ninja's chest with two bobbles eyes fixes mistrustfully on the clerk. No, on the shoe in the clerk's hands.

"What's wrong? What happened kiddo?"

"No shoes! No, no, no!"

"Sshhh, it's okay. What's wrong? You didn't like the shoes?"

"Hurts!" Lassa moaning into Gullien's chest. Gullien shot a accusatory look at the clerk, who looked bewildered and shook out the shoe as though there might be a scorpion in their that she hadn't noticed. "There's nothing in the shoe." She told Gullien softly, one hand still feeling in it. "And I sized for a loose fit since she's going to grow into them. There may hve been something that pinched her oddly though, or was uncomfortable. Does she want to try another pair?"

Lassa answered that question herself with another wail. "Noooo! No shoes! No, no, no. Huuuurts!"

"Lassa, it's alright. It's okay. C'mon, look at me here. Okay. Alright, how did the shoes hurt?"

"...hurt."

"I know. But where they too pokey? Did they poke?" Gullien poked Lassa gently in one the ticklish spots on her side. The little Mishap squirmed away and shook her head, clearly unwilling to be coaxed into a better mood.

"Okay, not pokey. Were they too tight?" Gullien took Lassa's hand, squeezing it gently. "Tight, like this?"

"Yes!" Lassa squeezed at Gullien's hand with all the little strenght she had. "Tight, tight, tight! Hurts!"

Gullien glanced over at the clerk, who shook her head in confusion.

Hmmm... alright, so it really wasn't the shoe, but how Lassa felt about the shoe. She wasn't used to them, they probably did feel uncomfortable. So what to do about that? Same thing she did with everything that made Lassa uncomfortable. Make her deal with as little of it as possible.

"Do you have any slippers? Like the ones I'm wearing?"

"Well, we have sandels, but they're not suited for an active child..." The clerk looked thoughful though. "Let me just go look around for a second and I'll be right back."

Lassa's eyes watched her go, and then turned up to Gullien curiously. It was a little unnerving being confronted by those bobble eyes while Lassa still had her face hidden...

"Okay, kiddo. The nice lady is gonna look for some different shoes."

"No shoes! No-"

"Shhh, shhh, I know. They're not like those shoes. These are gonna be shoes like I have. Do you want shoes like mine Lassa?"

The eyes appeared to be thinking it over. Then the face made an apparence. "Gul-len shoes?"

"Uh-huh. Here, turn around." Lassa sniffed as Gullien rotated her to face outwardly again. She didn't take her arms from around Lassa though.

"See, shoes like mine? There's only a little shoe, so it isn't tight. Wanna try them on? If you don't like them, we'll take them right back off again."

Lassa eyed the slipped for a moment and then nodded reluctantly. "Kee..."

"Here we are." The clerk popped up again, a vastly reduced number of boxes in hand. "We have a few slipper-type shoes in the back, but this one is the closest to what you want. Here, what do you think of this one, honey?"

The clerk held up the shoe for Lassa's approval. It was blue, darker than Lassa's eyes, with light blue trim and a brown heel. The shoe did look like Gullien's slipper. It had another strap on it, one that went over the arch of Lassa's foot to keep her from stepping out of it, but it was more or less, just like Gullien's shoes. It would have been terribly plain, but the strap had a little fake shoelace bow sewn to it, with red beads on the lace ends. The laces were too short for Lassa to trip on, but the beads were a nice touch. Hopefully they would win the shoe some brownie points with Lassa. "You wanna try it on?"

"Kee..."

Lassa watched closely at the clerk fastened it to one foot. She blinked at it for a moment and then shook her foot and reached down to touch it. Then she just sat there and thought about it while the clerk and Gullien watched with rather anxious faces.

"Is...is o-kee."

"That's great! Do you want me to put the other shoe on?" Lassa nodded, and held out her other foot for the clerk. Once the shoe was slipped on, she simply stared down at both feet in fascination, shaking them a little to watch the beads rattle.

"Shall I wrap them up?"

"No!"

"She'll wear them home."

Greetings and salutations,

Retta has recently finished the sheepie she promised to Lassa. Neither of us chanced that you were present, hence we thought it be best we left it at your door.
