Rhian hugged Ziazan, flicking it gently with her antennae. "We can play dress-up instead!" She chirped, excited by the prospect of dressing her sibling up again.
Ellandra hugged Kelly back, rocking him a bit. "Mmm, yes, of course it's fine. Chocolate's the best kind of cake." Unthinkingly, she stroked his hair a little, gently, feeling this child in her arms and wondering how in the world anyone could ever not love him, how anyone could want to harm this special, precious boy.

Zia chuckled. "Alright, but nothing pink this time." It got up and looked down at her. "And no glitter."
"When can we get the cake?" Kelly asked, looking up at her. He tugged a bit at the ends of his hair with one hand. "Da said I should get me hair cut. Can you do it?"

"But you looked so preeeeeeeetty!" RThian protested, and stuck her tongue out at her sibling. He eyes were sparkling, though, and she was trying not to giggle. "Fine, fine, no pink and no glitter, got it."
Ellandra hmmed for a moment, then tugged gently on his locks. "I can neaten it up a bit, make it not so poofy if you'd like that," she said, smiling. "And I can actually bake the cake as soon as that's done, if you would be able to wait a few hours for it to bake and cool - or we could go buy one, perhaps."

Zia held out its hands. "Fine, I'm all yours." It sighed as if being led to deathrow.
"Can I help you make it?" Kelly asked, ears lowering a bit.

Rhian giggled some more and got to her feet, tugging Ziazan to her room. "Just wait, I've got the perfect pretty outfit for you to try on, Sibling-Ziazan! You'll look GREAT!"
Ellandra nodded. "Of course you can - and I'll need a taste--tester for the frosting and things too. Could you handle that for me?"

Zia just groaned, but let Rhian drag it off to play dress-up.
"Sure," Kelly answered, getting up. "Will th' bairns be alreet alone?"

Rhian giggled in an almost maniacal tone. If she wasn't so sweet and nice, one might have thought they were watching a mad scientist drag a test-subject to their doom.
Ellandra nodded, getting to her feet as well. "They'll be quite fine on their own for a little while," she said reassuringly. "And I bet that if one of them starts crying, you'd hear it, wouldn't you? Now, let's get that hair tidied up before we bake..."

Ellandra actually frowned at that. "Well, she was wrong. Your ears are perfectly normal. Did you see Sam's ears? His will look a lot like yours when he gets biiger - both of you look a lot like Faolan," she said, smiling again toward the end of her speech. She ushered the little boy into the kitchen and had him sit down on a chair, gathering the scissors and getting a towel to lay around and over his shoulders. "I'll need you to hold still for me, alright, Kelly? Wouldn't want you to wind up with short hair on one part of your hair and longer hair on the other!"
Rhian, meanwhile, had pulled out a ribbon-bedecked, backless violet dress, complete with sunhat and gloves, which she was proceeding to get her sibling into. Or trying, at least. "Come on, Sibling Ziazan! It's not pink and it's not sparkly!"

"How come you donnae talk like us?" Kelly asked, curious about his new mommy.
Zia just sighed and complied, stripping down to put on the dress and accessories.

"That's because I wasn't raised in Farstep," Ellandra said as she started trimming Kelly's hair up. "I was supposed to be, but my Father kept my Mama and I away."
Rhian smiled. "It'll look so nice on you, Sibling-Ziaaaa!"

"Why wouldnae anyone let you visit th' carnival?" Kelly asked. He was still young enough to not have been exposed to outsiders or their feelings about the didikai much.
Zia just pouted, arms folded across its thin chest. "Just don't make me go anywhere like this."

"My Mama died when I was very little," Ellandra said softly, as she neatened up Kelly's hair in such a way that his wee horns could be seen - they were so cute, just like the little boy who they adorned! "And my father wanted nothing to do with Farstep or the people here, so he. . . well, he made me forget that I ever had anything to do with it, or that this place even existed."
Rhian blinked and giggled. "But you look so pretty, Sibling-Zi! Um.... if you won't go out in this outfit... how about this?" she asked, rummaging around for what amounted to a little pageboy's outfit.

"That's sad. What a mean thin' t' do t' your own child," the boy pouted, ears lowering down. "He doesnae keep you away now, though. Be hard t' 'cause i know Da would always come fae you."
Zia perked up. "Ooh, I like that." It reached got the pageboy outfit.

Ellandra smiled, trimming the hair around those drooping ears carefully as well. It was eerie to see how much little Kelly resembled Faolan - she wondered if Sam would have that same echoing appearance when he got a bit older. "That's most certainly true - he'd come to rescue all of us when we need it."
Rhian giggled again. "You'd look really good in this, Ziazaaaan!"
