Lydia blinked, surprised he knew what she was talking about. Well, now she just felt foolish, him having known how she felt about him this whole time. And yet, he didn't seem too upset. "It's not easy to meet people, though. I mean, I'm rather particular about who I spend my time with. Who I give my attention to." She looked down at the puppy, feeling her eyes starting to sting a bit again.

Lydia cocked her head, giving the boy a somewhat confused look. Did Rory really see himself as a catch? That was... somewhat funny, as she never would have guessed he'd be so confident. She laughed a bit, covering her mouth and smiling at the boy. "I hate to ask, but... how many girls did you know before you 'jumped to' Miss Lee?"

"Didnae know any," Rory admitted, shrugging one shoulder. "Nae girls wanted anythin' t' do wi' me really. Then I met Lee an' w' just clicked. I really donnae think I could see any other girls fae how brightly she shines."

Lydia sighed and looked about the room, not wanting to look at Rory at the moment. "Seems as if you aren't taking your own advice." Lydia's eyes fell on Rory once again, and she tilted her head, her eyes narrowing a bit. "Miss Lee didn't know many boys before you, either. How can you be sure she's the one if you've never spent time with anyone else? How can she be confident you're right for her? If anything, I think it might bring you two closer together if you take a break, see other people, and get back together. It would ensure that no one is as perfect for you as Miss Lee, and no one is as perfect for her as you are."

"Tha' ain't gonna happen," Rory said. "W're t' be married in a few weeks an' w' both want tha' t' happen. I love her. I know it in me heart an' soul t' be true, and I know she feels the same way." He finished the third beer and started in on the fourth. "Besides, it's like you said. W' donnae know other people. Who would w' date, eh?"

Rubbing her hands together nervously, Lydia looked to her lap. "Well, Miss Lee has quite a few potential suitors. Mister Jeremy being one, but there are others. And for you..." she cleared her throat softly. "There's always the girls around the house. Perhaps some of Lee's friends, perhaps me, perhaps a girl you have yet to meet at your... Farstep." She tried to bury any mention of herself deep, deep in the sentence.

"Well, there wis Lee's friend Hailey, but her idea wis more like molestin' me when I wis not exactly conscious," Rory said, shrugging. "I really donnae want t' know any other girls." He took a long swallow of beer and looked over at the girl, eyes half-closed with his relaxation. "Lee's kinda enough fae me, you know."

Lydia couldn't help but cough a bit at the boy's short description of Hailey, peering up at him with slightly frightened eyes. Well... he certainly didn't seem to have a good impression of her. Perhaps... this wasn't a great idea. "I suppose that means you don't really want to know me, either..." Lydia looked over to the wall, her face somewhat emotionless, just like her voice. "Then maybe you should think about Miss Lee and her future. Are you certain you're the absolute best man for her? I'm not speaking in terms of wealth and power, but her happiness. Perhaps she doesn't know that there's someone out there better for her. Seems you're being rather selfish, not thinking in her best interest." How it had come to insulting Rory, she didn't know, but if it meant she'd get a chance with him, she'd at least try.

The boy just frowned. "I'm pretty sure she's happy wi' me. Maybe I ain't th' best man fae her, but I'm th' one she wants. I donnae think she's gonna gae lookin' anytime soon fae someone else."

Lydia peered over at the cans left, counting how many he'd had. He still seemed relatively "with it", and she realized she might have to go get a few more beers. That was, if she decided to continue on with her plan. Pulling her legs up onto the bed, she let her hands rest in her lap. "To be honest, I'm quite certain she'll have a hard time finding a better husband than you." She smiled at the boy, somewhat appologizing for her previous statement.

Rory just shrugged, eyelids drooping a bit. "Guess not." He set the now empty beer on the nightstand and stretched out on the bed, not really caring that Lydia was there or not, the alcohol mixing with his sleepiness.

Was that four beers? Lydia cleared her throat a bit, leaning toward Rory. "Are you drunk?" She looked almost apologetic, careful as she asked him.
