The alter's tail swished behind her as she thought about the options given to her. Was there an order best to do them in, did she value the same forms of entertainment as humans and was there a point in looking at things she couldn't buy becuase Uzi lacked money of her own? "Vendors first" she finally replied " People make interesting things."
Even if she couldn't buy anything Uzi had to admit she was curious about what sort of things the people here might have crafted. Uzi had long ago learned that many of the sentient species of Drente had found more ways to create things than to kill them and these creations took an equal amount of skill. She might not find all things that were made useful but the essentic was learning to appreciate the effort that went into them anyways.

"Okay," Zia said, leading Uzi to the vendors. "If you get hungry, Faolan gave me a little money so I can buy us somethnig to eat."

Uzi eyed Zia carefully at that comment, she disliked the idea of being in the other essentics debt over something as base as food. " The offer is kind," unnecessary but kind, then again Ziazan was that sort as far as Uzi was concerned.though her understanding of things grew daily she would never be able to get why Zia was able to view Faolan as family or why the older alter was able to make so many bonds. For Uzi distancing herself from others was second nature.

The small alter nodded as they walked among the vendors. "The crafts and clothing and all that is back over this way." Never seemed to matter its age, Zia still held a love for the pretty scarves of its adopted people.

"I'd like to look at those, I need to look at more clothes anyways Eli says." Uzi was quite content with the small wardrobe she had but it didn't hurt to consider adding new things and she was too rough on her clothes to expect them to last forever. Uzi's ears flicked back and work as they walked trying to pick up snippets of the conversations going on around her.

"Well, I guess it depends on what you want to wear. There all different kinds of clothes sold here and there's a market in the camps for the didikai, too," Zia explained, pausing a moment to look at a scarf at a stall.

The huntress's golden eyes followed Zia's hand and looked at the long strip of fabric. It was richly coloured and had a sort of flowyness to it, not good to wear in a fight or hunt but elegant and appealing regardless. " I like loose clothing," the essentic mused. "Things that are comfortable and easy to move in." She wanted to be practical but bold, to make a statement. How to do this though was beyond Uzi, fashion and most things to do with clothing were still a mystery to her.

"I'm with you on that. I don't really like tight clothes. It makes it too obvious that I lack gender," Zia said, looking over the scarf selection. "I guess you could sort out where you'd be wearing different clothes and then pick outfits based on that."

"Why don't you have one?" Uzi asked ignoring the rest of Zia's statement. She was the sort to latch onto one thing and devote most of her focus to it.

"I don't see where being gender specific has any bearing on who and what I am," Zia explained softly. "I am comfortable as I am and didn't need to choose being male or female. I still don't."

" I didn't need to be female" Uzi growled defensively " I chose it becuase it called to me." The predatory walks of females in heels, the way she listened to women on the street talk about men, dozens of small things she had seen individual and groups of females do had appealed to Uzi. Something about them and their behavior had resonated within the combat proto until she had chosen them.
Zia's comment frustrated her and the alter's ears lowered a bit. Being male or female may not be ones most important trait but the way the other spoke seemed to invalidate the purpose of bothering to choose at all. It was insulting and even though she respected Zia, Uzi didn't take well to insults.

Zia nodded. "I guess gender never called to me. Sometimes I wonder if that means something's wrong with me. Every other Essentic I've met has a gender and I don't. I missed that part somehow." It looked up at Uzi, seeing the other's expression, then looked away. "I didn't mean to make having a gender seem unimportant. Just the opposite. All of you are who you are because, for the most part, your owners needed you to be that way. Faolan didn't care enough to decide on a gender for me. He thought it wasn't that important and didn't want to lock me into being male or female. Well, it stuck and now I can't choose because neither feels right."

Uzi eyed Zia suspiciously for a moment before making a non committal noise. She wasn't sure if she believed the other alter or not. The instinct to distance herself from others anytime she became uncomfortable or doubting of them was strong, the ability to find herself comfortable around others never having been all that strong to begin with.
" There is nothing wrong with you" Uzi declared finally " or Fao, Eli did not discuss gender with me either. You were just not meant to choose." The words were uncertain but offered in as much honesty as Uzi had. She was still slightly less trusting of Zia overall now, still somewhat stung by the way she;d reacted to his earlier comment but the other alter had not yet been shoved outside of her circle of people vs others.

Zia nodded. "I guess not. Maybe I didn't choose because it wasn't called to my attention as a proto, you think? I never really thought about it. The only time I ever noticed was when Lauss and Rhian grew. They became alters at the same time and I saw them both before they were clothed. It's the only time I noticed I was different." It looked up at Uzi, curiosity in it's rainbow eyes. "Why did you decide to be female? I've never had a chance to ask any others why they chose a gender or their reasons for the choice."

Something shimmered in the depth's of the huntress's eyes and her entire body froze as she thought about this and tried to find the words to express what she meant. " Females interest me, there is something about them, the way they move and speak that declares them predators even more so than their male counterparts." Aside from perhaps her own enhanced self she had never met a better hunter than Eli and he was male but in her mind she was hesitant to call him a predator. He was her bonded and important to Uzi but he was also, different, he didn't stir the same thoughts in her mind as females did.
" Even female animals often showed a " she paused to find the word " crafty side one would not suspect from them. Males often had much more raw power" there was a rumble of approval at that " but observing them I felt no connection and more of a desire to compete with them. Females were admired though. I became what it was I believed was best matched to what I already was."
