Ellandra sighed and shook her head. "In terms of physical comforts, I suppose she did, yes. Her family's extremely wealthy after all, she never suffered anything related to financial hardship. . . emotionally though, no. Not in the least. You've seen her mother, you know Faolan had to essentially rescue her from the arrangements that woman was making. In all truth, as far as I can see she led a completely loveless life. Which, really, is no way to live. I ought to know, I've lived that way myself, before Faolan kidnapped me here." The last sentence was spoken with a mischievous smile and an amused sparkle in the tiny brunette's grey eyes.

"Fao does enjoy rescuin' women," Rory chuckled. "I just . . . I guess sometimes I think I really cannae offer her as much as she needs. I ain't rich an' I donnae know anythin' about outside life, not really. I love her, but is tha' enough fae her?"

Ellandra sat down in the rocking chair, watching Rory the entire time. "Well. . .. why don't you ask her? Lee's an honest girl." Tilting her head, she thought for a moment, and added, "Hmm........ if it helps, you could tell her to come to me if she starts feeling the least bit uncomfortable here, and I'll help her work it out, all right?"

"I'll just ask her. I'd rather she come t' me if she's not feelin' reet here," Rory answered quietly.

Ellandra nodded, a soft, gentle smile spreading over her features. "That's a very wise decision, Rory - and that, I think, is why she won't want to leave. . . though I'm the first to admit mistakes do happen," she said, thinking back to her run to the Gardens.

Rory nodded. "She does seem t' actually be lookin' at th' clan an' carnival wi' more o' an open mind than most outsiders. Maybe she needs this place."

"Very true, Rory, you're absolutely right," Ellandra said, then added half-teasingly, half-seriously, "Perhaps all Lee needs is you.

"Maybe," Rory said, but he doubted that a bit. He looked up at Elle. "Did you want your bairn back?"

"Well, sometime before you leave," Ellandra said quietly, though after a moment she paused and tilted her head. "Though. . . I suppose you're going to want to head to see Lee soon, hmm?"

"I thought about it, but w' been spendin' a lot o' time together," Rory said, shrugging. "It wis her first day at work. I donnae know what her mood is. She might want a break from me."

"Or. . . .she might want someone to talk to about how her day went, and perhaps some encouragement that she'll do fine at her job," the brunette responded, smiling at the teenage boy. "If she's used to seeing you, not showing up might hurt her a bit."

"I might let her relax a bit before gaen o'er," the boy said, then grinned, getting up and handing Bel over gently. "Actually, I think I should gae t' th' market an' get some groceries t' make her dinner."

Ellandra' smile brightened further as she took her baby back and kissed her little forehead. "Well, it was nice speaking with you then, Rory - and thank you for the music box, I'm sure Bel and Sam will be most appreciative." She paused for a moment, then added. "You might surprise her with a nice dessert, as well - either to celebrate her first day or to cheer her up if it didn't go well."
