'Thank you very much sensei for letting me know that now.' Yokome said with a bright smile.

"Summimasen sensei. Would you say that the pleasure quarters brought around one of the biggest changes in the life style of the geisha?" Momoko asked quietly.

Kikaru would wait until the end of this lesson before checking her grade so far. She hoped she had done well. Hearing Momoko's question she was intrigued a bit, it seemed a logical question. She made a quick note of it and waited for the sensei's answer.

((OOC: Still modifying Part 2...sorry for the delay. Don't worry. There will be plenty of time for people to post. The grades don't really matter...unless you fail in posting altogether. Then you will be kicked from the rp and will have to join another class.))
Sayuri acknowledged Momoko with a flick on her fan in the direction of the maiko, but her mind almost went completely blank at the young maiko's question. Sayuri mulled over the comment for a moment before the answer appeared before her.
"I believe it was the biggest changes the geisha had. Here, geisha were not courtesans or concubines. No, on the contrary-- they were performers and artisans. Geisha had become the living treasures of traditions and a form of art in themselves. Geisha were to become what they are today from the new traditions that each pleasure quarter would make for themselves, but that will be explained in detail in the second part of our lesson."
Sayuri replaced her fan back into the protection of her kimono sleeve with a smile. "That was a very good observation upon your part, though."

'How interesting!' Yokome said, 'Turning a a useless piece of land into something so lavish. Oh, and all those different classes, that is most interesting. How many different "levels" would you say still exisit today?'

Her eyes widened with the out flow of information of the start of the geisha. Quietly she wrote down the information while questions stewed and bubbled in her young mind.
She opened her mouth to ask her question, but quickly shut it as Yokome had beaten her to the punch. Iyasu sat back quietly and waited her turn to speak.

Kikaru continued to make notes because Yokome had already asked the question she had intended to ask. She paused in her note taking for a moment to listen to the sensei's answer.

((OOC: I'll have to get back to your question when I have more time to answer it. Sorry for the delays, but I need to have a good internet access to be able to answer all these questions properly. Another week or so, I hope, will be the end of it. xp I wanted it before Christmas, but our old house is closing today and my parents won't be able to make the road runner call for me until tomorrow, since they are covering its expense. wink Go ahead and ask all your questions, ladies. ^^ I'll make sure to answer them at the first possible moment. Also, I wanted to give credit to the "immortal geisha" site for this historical information. A lot of my posts are directly quoted and reworded from those. Mainly b/c of my lack of internet access at the moment. I do hope it's informative. ^^ Maybe I could get a "substitute sensei" in here for you...hmm...))

Iyasu thought to herself that perhaps it would be best to ask her question now, so that way Sayuri could continue on with the lesson.
"Sensei, is it because of these classes that the ranking of junior maiko, maiko, geisha and senior geisha came from?"

Momoko raised her hand slightly. "Summimasen sensei, is it ever said why the changed the kanji in yoshiwara? I'm sorry if it's a stupid question, I am just curious as to why they would change the meaning of the name."
