Pan was hanging in the tattoo parlor, Peter flipping through picture books in a chair. He was bored, but there wasn't a whole lot that could be done about it. The boss was nice enough to allow Peter to come with Pan to work, even if it probably broke a whole bunch of regulations and codes. Although she sometimes left him in the care of Mina or another neighbor, with the new show of abilities, she didn't want to let Peter out of her sight. It scared her too much.

Before Ms. Sven left for her own work that day, she stopped at the Rickets' and slid an envelope under the door. Inside was a check for several hundred dollars and a brief note:
Dear Pan,
I'd like to apologize for my daughter's experiments with dynamite. I know this doesn't cover the cost of replacing your wall and replacing any ruined personal items, but please accept it as the first payment of many on her behalf. If I remember the law correctly, Mina will be spending at least 4 months in Juvenile Hall. If charges are not pressed... she'll instead be spending all her free time working a job to pay off the repairs and compensate you for the damage.

Mina did not go to school that day. She took her backpack to Ms. Cross, along with her homework and everything else that had been in it... including her picture of Dad. Ms. Cross reached through the door with a shaky hand, giving the teen a reassuring pat on the shoulder.
Instead of school, Mina played hooky down at the beach.

Das Steube Ruby St.Claire Kat wondered briefly how he was able to do any of it, but didn't argue. She simply made note of getting to a bar as quick as possible. Once inside she wasted little time picking someone out, and made her move. Within a half hour, she'd gotten enough spare cash to cover them for the next day or two, and when that was finished she moved quickly to an alley. "All right, all right. Get off now." Rook slipped off, assuming a random, male form. "Alright. What we do now is get ourselves a nice, quiet hotel, and figure out what we're going to do next." Kat gave a nod, as she fixed her hair up into a braid. "That sounds close enough to what I was thinking. The one just up the street, with the flamingo sign, looked decent enough."

Kat headed to the hotel, "My first thought was run like hell, but I have a feeling you're too much of a greeny at heart to do something like that." She was too, but she wouldn't have admitted it.
Getting into the pink flamingo hotel was easy enough, Kat trading a few kisses with the clerk to convince him that checking ID's wasn't necessary. Kat picked up one room, figuring she'd already been too close to Rook for comfort, sharing a room with him couldn't be any worse, and it'd save some change.
The moment they entered the hotel room, Kat went straight for the bathroom, "I'm showering. Get some food for us in the meantime." She made a passing joke about pink flamingos and hotels before closing the bathroom door and eagerly moving to the task of letting a hot shower get rid of the feel of man-suit still lingering on her skin.

Jarred walked in the front of the hotel, taking in the atmosphere and smiling, more at the reaction he was certain it would illicit from Roxanna than any particular distaste he himself felt.
He walked to the front counter, still smiling as he faced the desk clerk. "Hello sir, I was wondering if you could help us."

"For some, it was the beginning. Others were born with their gifts." Roxanna's eyes widened slightly at the shiny plastic and pink feathery decor. She kept her arms close, trying to make sure she didn't bump into anything contagious or otherwise contaminated.
The desk clerk turned around to look at Jarred, "Smoking or non-smoking?" He glanced at Roxanna and her odd clothes, "by the night or by the hour?"

"She's tall, reddish hair, pale eyes." Roxanna paused a moment. "She may have kissed you."
"She owe you folks money or something?" The clerk chuckled. "Twenty bucks and I'll give you a key to the girl's room."
Roxanna's jaw dropped, having never in her life been in a hotel with such seedy business practices. She was about to ask if that was even legal, but quickly shut her mouth before the man changed his mind. She glanced over to Jarred, "I'll pay you back....."

While Kat showered, Rook scoured the room for something like a phone book or menus so he could call out for he and Kat. Eventually spotting an out-of-date phone book, he called out for the local 24-hour pizza joint. ((And, for the sake of fiction, I'm going to pretend it's better than the one here.))

Roxanna said a quick thanks to Jarred as he handed the money to the clerk. The Clerk smiled, wasting little time as he handed them the key.

Kat finished her shower fairly quickly. She came out wearing one of the cheap hotel robes as she set her clothes out to dry after having washed them in the sink.

Roxanna gave Jarred an odd look as she followed him towards the stairs. "Was that necessary? I would have given the man just the twenty, would that have been a bad thing?" She was once again perplexed and mulling things over in her head, though it kept her distracted from the ugly flamingo print carpeting that coated the stairs.
