Ruby St.Claire Kat bristled slightly, but allowed the act to carry through, despite her dislike of being caught , whether it was real or not. By the time they'd left the store and were walking back to Roxanna's she'd pulled her hand back. "Missy, you had to call me missy? God I've always hated that term." She rubbed a hand over her wrist, "It's what my instructor always used when I was in trouble." "Mine used to beat me. So you were lucky." He replied, letting her guide his path, "And, to maintain the illusion of me being a mall cop. As a hunter, I got out a lot more than your average grunt." He said, looking to her, "And why are you so sure you can trust me?"

"You know nothing of what it was like being trained amidst the blues, don't act as if getting tossed around a few times even compares." Kat gave him a sharp look, stopping in her steps. She closed the distance between them, moving into a sweetly flavored kiss. It was a wet kiss, but too skilled to fall into sloppy. She pulled back and continued walking, her voice echoing in Rook's head

He smiled with her voice in his mind,

Kat chuckled slightly at the Cherry Soda comment,
Kat clipped her hat back over her hair, though the hair was now hanging down to her shoulders instead of tucked up inside like earlier. It had a coppery shine to it in the light, and swayed instead of bounced as she walked. The Corey mansion was up ahead. Though it was large, it was old in style, being one of the oldest homes on the island. Kat passed through the gate, and began heading up the walkway, admiring the antique brickwork....when the house itself exploded.

Kat glanced back at him, then she was tossed back by the explosion. The world going silent, and blindingly bright.
It took her a moment to breath again, staring up at the blue sky now filled with smoke. She didn't know if she could move yet, the only sound the thump of her heart beat in her head.

Rook recovered gracefully, hopping to his feet, subtly changing the mall cop getup, turning into a normal cop instead, before headed towards what was left of the house.

The remaining pieces of the house were in flames, the rest of it was just a mess. No one would have survived inside, and a few unrecognizable bodies were evidence of that enough.

Kat was still flat on the ground, having been closer to the blast than Rook. She was staring up at the sky blankly, her gaze turning to Rook as he talked to her. "What?"

(Grabbing and yanking a hand isn't going to do any good if she's laying on the ground.)

He said back, racing along unfamiliar streets and faces, running farther away from the ruin of Roxanna's home, and farther away from the riches and well-manicured lawns and deeper into poorer and poorer sections.
