Dear Journal,
Miles gave me some good news, but he made me swear not to write it down in case you ever fall into the wrong hands. He said it wasn't for everyone to know because sometimes when people know their fate, they try to fight it and they usually end up screwing things up and making a mess of their destinies. So I'll just say this; it was enough to learn that my operation isn't in vain.
Anyway, I can understand why Miles is worried about people fighting fate. Milo's likely to try if he ever learns what's in the future for him. I don’t think he’ll ever admit to liking someone unless he’s trapped. He already says romance is for chumps, so--I don’t know. Maybe this is fate’s way of getting back at him. Miles wouldn't tell me everything, he said it wasn't right for me to pry, and gave me the name of the person Milo's going to end up with. (He told me not to write down her name, but if you read my last entry, you'll know why I said it's good news).
The bad thing about having an oracle for a brother is that they're always so blunt and vague at the same time. He told me today that my future was going to be an interesting one, and that he looked forward to seeing it play out. Worse, he was smirking the entire time he said this. Like a movie he wanted to see but it hasn't been released yet. He wouldn't tell me anything more, even when I asked him who I'd end up with when I'm older. He just smiled and ruffled my hair (it's even more annoying when your older brother does this and he's the same size you are), and told me to wait and see.
Oh, have I told you Journal? Mom's pregnant. We're going to have a baby sister! Miles seems worried about Mom though, so I guess I shouldn't be so excited. I've heard him say that the baby's all wrong, but he doesn't seem to know what's wrong with her. Which is strange in itself, really. I've never known Miles to say he doesn't know something. That must be troubling him, not knowing what's going on with the baby.
Anyway! So my operation's going well, at least I think so. I plan on meeting up with Sammi and Milo together soon, maybe I can ditch them after convincing them to go to a movie or something of that sort. Maybe I can drag them to the park and leave them there, give them time to learn more about each other. Oh, I don't know. Maybe I'll ask Dad. He's got to know how to set up a date. I'm sure he does... He knows everything, even more than Miles does. If he doesn’t know what to do, I suppose I’ll have to go to Mom or Aunt Thali. They’ll know, especially Aunt Thali.
Yours,
Loki

Dear Journal,
So despite what Miles told Howl about "happily ever after"'s not existing, I'm starting to think he believes in them. Yeah, an oracle believing in happily ever afters? I thought that at first too. I think he's got someone he's got in mind to have one with. (He can't tell his own future, for some reason.) I don't like to think of Miles as being the romantic type. I really can't see him with any girls. He's too awkward and blunt, he'd scare them all away.
I, on the other hand, know that happily ever afters do exist. Mom and Dad have one, Aunt Stasia and Uncle Zee, too. Howl told me once that happily ever afters didn't promise that their lives would be perfect, just that they'd be happy. Technically, my life's a fairytale. I'm a fae, get it? Fairytale? Anyway, I think I have to believe in them. I always have.
Everyone should at least have one happily ever after. I'll help them get one, if I have to. I think I'll be good at that. I shudder to think that I'm like Aunt Thali, but it's true. I can pick out potential romances easily. Maybe that's why I've always liked Aesica. I wish Miles would tell me about Aesica's future, but all he'll say that it's too close to mine. Wait...
My destiny's involved with Aesica's? Is that what he means? That must mean we-- I won't write it. This is perfect. I knew it all along. If it does happen that way, we'll have a happily ever after of our own. Something better than a happily ever after, really, like I promised her when we were little--littler. Mom still refuses to tell me the meaning of spider flowers, by the way. I know I'm changing the subject, but... You know how she is.
I think it's some kind of secret joke between her and Dad and she just doesn't want me to know. A flower can't mean anything bad, really, unless it's a begonia, which is kind of obvious what they mean due to the name. "Begone, beware," and then a bunch of stuff about "Beware, I'm lovable," or something, but that's only a certain color. I don't get why she won't tell me what spider flowers mean.
Maybe she's secretly afraid of them too. Anyway, journal. Don't stop believing in happily ever afters!
Loki

Quote: Quote: Loki has found a gruesome looking monster hiding in his closet! But, instead of mauling him and tearing him to pieces like a bad B-movie.....it likes him? Whether Loki likes the monstrosity or not is not of any importance; the creeper likes him and is following the fae around like a puppy. How does Loki handle this? Loki was supposed to be cleaning his room; supposed to be here meaning that he was not. Rather, he was practicing a spell for his favorite cousin; a summoning spell. The fae had somehow become Howl's unofficial apprentice, and though summoning charms were supposed to be simple; just like being able to take orbs of light with you when reading, Loki was finding it especially difficult. He tried again, using the gestures Howl had instructed him in. He heard something from behind him and whipped around. Thump. The closet? Loki was sure none of his pets had gotten locked in there. He didn't remember lying recently, so certainly there was no reason for skeletons to be in there, right? Thump. Loki moved towards the closet door. Bang. The door flew open. The fae jumped backwards. Sitting there in a pile of crumpled was a--a--Loki didn't know what it was. He stared. The creature stared back. Loki considered calling for his father; the creature made itself comfortable by making a monster sized hole in the pile of clothes, turning around three times and laying down. It ignored the fae completely. Loki resumed staring. The creature lifted its head, gave a decidedly smug look in Loki's direction, and a sound escaped it. A rumbling purr. The fae was used to unusual creatures coming to live with him; he had even accepted the fact that chimeras followed him no matter where he went. Something in his closet, something so large, something he wasn't even sure what it was, was new to him. "What are you?" The creature opened its mouth in response, revealing six inch fangs. It extended its claws, and playfully swiped at Loki's shoe string. It moved into pouncing position, tail straight up and back wiggling-- A kitten the size of a huge dog? Loki somehow doubted he'd be allowed to keep this pet. He sighed; it was cute, in a monster-kitten kind of way. In a this animal could kill me with its claws, fangs, or strength kind of way. To paraphrase, the fae was thrilled with his new find. A dangerous, frightening, altogether epic monster? A monster that could frighten his mother, and perhaps Milo as well? “I’m keeping you,” he decided aloud. He reached out to pet his new companion when-- “El?” The fae whipped around to look for the source of the voice. He went pale, his freckles becoming more visible as he spotted the shadow. Dad wasn’t going to like this… And he wasn’t sure he liked it either. A shadow? He didn’t know the first thing about shadows! Except that Howl’s liked everything to be clean at all times. Would his shadow be like that? …And what was that white thing she was holding? Another shadow? Loki stared, and reached out to pet it. The shadow recoiled, and shook a finger at him. “El el el el!” she scolded. Loki sighed. What had Howl said? To name them quickly, or they’d repeat other things instead… Maybe he would be able to teach his shadow some choice swear words. Hm. “Kelani, that’s your name. Alright? Kelly for short. Do you like that?” “Lani!” agreed the shadow, hoping off her host’s bed to wrap an arm around him. “Kel! Kelani?” “…Dad! Help!”

Loki was supposed to be cleaning his room. Supposed to be here meaning that he was not cleaning, and instead he was plotting (as usual) to frighten his mother. He had cleared off his desk at least, where he had been listening to music on loop to keep his mother out of the room. It was his idea of dark music (the boy was still determined to impress his father by being entirely evil and wicked, which, though the boy knew he wasn't, had to act like he was. In order to impress his father--and avoid his twin brother's stupidity). So to keep his mother from walking in on him--as she had done countless times to show him that he'd forgotten to put his laundry away, or that he needed to go shopping with her to purchase a new set of underwear. (It really was amazing, how many times a week she decided he needed new underclothing, did women go through it so quickly? Or was it just because his father stole it? It sounded like the evil sort of thing Matth would do.)
I've been watching
I've been waiting
In the shadows all my time
So how would he frighten his mother this time? Spiders? Nah, that was too cliche. Carebears? No, carebears were going too far. They were terrifying, those bright colors and smiling faces. They were almost as frightening as teletubbies. (Loki was absolutely certain that custurd they ate was filled with arsenic).
Lately I been walking walking in circles, watching, waiting, for something.
Snakes? No, his father would suspect something. Especially since their grandmother had a certain...talent, was it? A talent with snakes of a certain--giant breed. He might have been able to attract animals (whether he liked it or not). On the third time of listening to the song on loop (thank the gods for Youtube, whichever one had made it, even if it did have to buffer because his computer was so slow. He'd have to see about asking Dad if he could buy a newer one--but Matthias wasn't known for his fondness for technology.
I feel that I should go and play with the thunder Somehow I just don't wanna stay and wait for a wonder
Maybe he could convince his Nemean lion cub to pounce on his mother; something told him if he put Kitty's steak near where Risa was, the large dog sized kitten would attack. Not enough to harm her--the Nemean lion was harmless, really! Wouldn't hurt a fly!
I've been searching I've been living For tomorrows all my life.
The hairs on Loki's neck rose. He glanced to his right; Kelani was curled up like a cat on his bookshelf, along side of her albino shadow. To his left, was Kitty, who had taken residence in his closet (which no longer had a door, because Kitty had decided to remove it). Behind him was his bed--he had to take a double look. Something red...humanoid... A shadow? Lounging on his bed?
"Hey! Get off my bed!" Loki stood, and stared at the red being with wide ebony eyes. "DAD! There's a ghost in my room! It's on my bed! DAD!"
