Dragon Ball Kai is basically an upgrade of those DBZ uncut episodes, with better animation quality, less filler, more manga based. And a DIFFERENT but Permanent voice actor for Tenshinhan since his original va died of cancer some time ago.
Tien's original voice actor did die of cancer, my brother is the biggest DBZ geek of all to my knowledge.
Gohan only cried because he was being babied by his mother and his father knew he had great fighting potential. unfortunately in later DBZ episodes, Gohan's potential s**t the bed from studying too much.
as a child he was forced to survive in harsh conditions though, Piccolo's training regimen for one year, when he could handle himself in the wild, he had to spar with Piccolo every day relentlessly. Piccolo was basically the martial arts drill instructor from hell to Gohan. but because Piccolo was the only one who could contact Gohan during that one year, Gohan began to look up to the namek like an uncle.
Gohan's potential was realized as he was the first of the heroes to reach the official second stage of super Saiya-jin. anyone who looked to reach it though was on the boarderline.
and you cant cut out the filler episodes if they have some merit, ignoring the filler episodes is what ******** over 4Kids with One Piece, when 4Kids tossed the strawhat crew anime overboard, it was the team from Funimation who picked up the rights and fixed EVERYTHING that went wrong! Funi took some liberties with dubbing DBZ and found it was better to just leave in the uncensored gore and such, making the show dark, gritty, action packed, and overall a great show as a whole.
I'm not much a DBZ geek but my favorite fighters are Brolli, Vegeta, and Gohan. Brolli is a tank, Vegeta is a royal pain in the a**, and Gohan hooks up with a girl who is literally a better fighter in every way by comparison to her father(who is a total idiot).
