Aubrey hesitated. This girl was playing tricks with his mind! "Her grandmother likes my food apparently. That's all." He denied again. He couldn't deny her foresight on what her mother would to to prospective courters though.
Hearing Aimee approach he felt his face go hot, which turned his face an odd dark beet color. He couldn't tell her that Mattie thought they should date! That was asking for an awkward work environment if anything was. "We- uh- were-re just, eh, wondering what your grandmother was like. I mean, she likes my food but we've never met. That's injustice." He then filled his mouth with steak again.

Mattie couldn't help but laugh at her father. He was blushing! So he really did like Aimee! She beamed up at Aimee, "We were talking about your grandmother." she nodded sagely as she took a bite of the potato, "And some other things too..." she glanced at Aubrey, a devilish grin on her face.

Aimee laughed, "My grandmother is a kind old woman. She worries a lot." She looked at Aubrey curiously, "Are you alright Aubrey? Have you caught a fever because your face is very, very dark. Darker than usual..." she poured him a glass of cold cider, "This should help you cool down..." she said pouring Mattie a glass as well. Aimee tilted her head at Mattie's comment, "What else were you talking about? Or is this the secret I'm not supposed to know?"

Aubrey chewed slowly, resisting the urge to glare at Mattie. Anyone else, he would have, but this was his innocent daughter. Or, maybe not.
"I just think it's a little warmer in here than usual." He said, taking a gulp of the cider. Pausing, he cleared his throat. "Apparently, Mattie doesn't belive that guys will be flocking to her when she's old enough. Which would be fine with me, but I'm pretty sure some will flock around her like a bird to a diamond in a rock field." He said, drinking more of the cider.

Mattie took Aubrey's comment with stride, as if it didn't affect her at all, "But you see, I think Mama would go chase them away with a giant axe or something." She would just have to wait for her father to pop the question to Aimee. Maybe they needed some privacy? She looked down at her food, not wanting to leave such a delicious meal. But she did need them to get intimate with each other. 'This was such a hard decision!' she thought taking another bite of the steak.

Aimee blinked, "Oh really? Is your mother really that tough?" she was amazed by the strength of this woman. "But your a pretty girl, I'm sure there will be many boys after your love even if you mother does that." she looked to the door, "Maybe there's not enough air circulating around the tavern?" she said, opening a few windows before sitting down again. "It is a pretty hot day outside though..."

Aubrey bit his tongue to refrain from informing Aimee that Palladia wasn't tough, she was just a psychotic.
Feeling the blood finally leaving his face, he nodded encouragingly. "Yes, that's better. Get a breeze going through here." He smiled at Mattie's obvious enjoyment of their meal. "This steak is delicious. Excellent job Aimee."

Aimee had the grace to blush slightly, "Thank you Aubrey. I didn't know if I let it cook too long." she said, coming back to sit down again.
"I'm glad you guys like it though."

Mattie watched Aimee, nudging her father slightly, smiling. It was best she leave them alone for now. Shoving as much as she could into her mouth, she got up looking around, "Baf-room." she said after swallowing most of her food. "Bere is it?" she glanced at her father, a sly grin on her face.

"Uh...the bathroom...?" the centauress pointed to a small door by the kitchen, "Right there." she said, oblivious to what was going on.

Mattie nodded a 'thank you' before rushing in, slamming the door behind her quietly, leaving both of them alone. Once inside, Mattie couldn't help but let out a small squeal, bursting into a fit of giggles.

Aubrey glanced up at the nudge from Mattie, blinking in wonder when she started shoveling food. What was that little minx up to? He looked between Aimee and Mattie a couple times before smirking, watching the restroom door pushed shut.
Now that she wasn't around staring at him to make a move on Aimee, Aubrey relaxed again, going into coworker mode. "Looks like it has slowed down since I've left." He said, tossing in the last bite of his potato.

"It has. I guess cause lunch hour is over." Aimee grinned, "But its bound to pick up during dinner." she glanced at the bathroom door, before turning to Aubrey, "Are you coming back for dinnertime?"

Mattie pressed her ear to the door, listening and waiting intently for things to happen. 'I wonder what's happening.' she thought, a small smile on her face. Aimee was just perfect for her father.

Aubrey nodded. "I'm sure it will." He too glanced at the bathroom, shaking his head. "No. I promised Mattie that I'd make dinner for her at home. Have some... father-daughter time." Though a smile graced his lips, he ran a hand through his hair stressfully. Father-daughter time... Geez. He shouldn't just now be giving her that time, it should have been as soon as she could realize what papa meant, as a child, maybe even as a baby. He shook his head, having been mentally kicking himself since he'd found out she really though papa was his name.
"Are you going to be working the dinner shift? Maybe I'll talk her into coming here for dessert?" He said with an inquisitive smile.

"Yeah. I'll be here all day. Flora and Zura went out somewhere, but I think they'll be back in time for dinner. Until then, I think I can do this myself." Aimee shook her head, "No, no. Spend the whole day with her! It's important she spend time with you." it seemed like she was commanding him to do it, since she didn't have the opportunity when she was younger. She had a small smile on her face, but her eyes were slightly sad.

"I'm sure you can. You seem to be doing well so far." Aubrey said encouragingly. After working all this time with her, he was able to notice the slight change in her tone, the unusual emotion in her eyes. He shouldn't pry... but this was Aimee. When was she ever even remotely upset unless it was something obvious. This was not something obvious.
"Yes, that is the plan." He picked at his last bit of steak, pausing with it halfway to his mouth. "Did I say something wrong?" He asked hesitantly. Something ablout him spending time with Mattie...
PostPosted: Fri Aug 07, 2009 10:39 am

"What?" Aimee blinked, surprised that the sadness had probably showed, "You didn't say anything wrong! W-why do you ask?" she put a hand to her cheek, scratching it slightly, "Nothing! Nothing at all!" she chastised herself. She had a habit of babbling on and repeating things over and over when she was flustered or upset. She had to try and fix that habit.

Mattie was starting to get impatient. Was something even happening?! And her lunch was probably outside, sadly neglected. She tapped her hoof against the floor, anxious as she sighed to herself. Why wouldn't Papa do anything!?

Mentally berating himself, he reached up and took Aimee's hand from scratching her face. "I must have just been seeing things." He said, briefly biting his lip. "If you say it's nothing, then I have nothing more to ask." He held her hand still, petting it with his other hand. His cheeks by now were that odd beet color again. "Well, except, what desserts are there today?"

Aimee blushed slightly, sliding her hand out of his grasp. "It's alright. Don't worry too much about it." she said softly, shaking her head.
"Um...desserts? We have an apple pie and a strawberry shortcake. Do you want both?" she asked, getting up quickly.

How long did she have to stay in here? Impatient, Mattie pushed the door open, acting as if nothing happened. She managed to see her father, hold Aimee's hand, beaming she came back to sit down, acting as if nothing happened, trying to stifle her giggles.

Aubrey flashed a weak smile. "I'll have to ask Mattie if she wants any. Look, I'm sorry if-" He stopped hearing the bathroom door swing open, immediatly looking down at his food, feeling like a teenager about to be confronted by his parents for doing something wrong.
