Butterfly chuckled lightly. "Well. Trauma or not, there's a real difference between normal life trauma and difficulties and your life, my dear. I'd give a pretty penny for one of my lives to be anything at all like yours. I get mostly boring ones... or..." She frowned. "...Or else ones that might eventually come out interesting, but at the moment are simply confusing."

She sat up on her rug and arched backwards a little, stretching. "Lemme ask you something, Ora. Of all the people you know or know of, who would you say is the most interesting? Doesn't have to be someone I know, just curious."

Ora was quiet a moment as she thought about, the movements on her face active again. "Interesting is a loaded word, to be honest. Who I find most interesting, is Patrick, of course. In fact I can be a fair amount odd about it. By nature what I find interesting I experiment with, document, and analyze. Recently, for example, we discovered Pat has a certain natural defense against blades, unless they are spelled or unnaturally sharp. Upon finding this out I insisted on testing out different blades and their effects on him, all for his own safety of course. However, he had to inform me that it's not exactly a pleasant scene, turning around to find the love of your life attempting to stab you in the back with a steak knife." Ora let out a small sigh, "The steak knife didn't even break his skin...yet he still got cranky when I brought out a machete."

She leaned forward slightly, "You see, I write everything down in a notebook which is devoted solely to him...a notebook he's made a few efforts to destroy."

"Pat is interesting to me, but I suppose I can't say he's the most interesting person I know if we're considering from an outside perspective. That would have likely been Digger."

Butterfly grinned through this and then tilted her head. "Who is Digger?"

Behind her, the drawing of the troll-woman finished filling in green and floated outside the pavilion. Another drawing, that of a short crystal sword, floated up and then back down again, apparently not yet ready for more work.

"Digger lives in the Nether Realm. It's a place much like this one. In between a lot of other places, filled with lost things, dust...lots of dust, a few doorways that open at random when a big dust storm blows in...and then Digger with his shovel Charlene." Ora smiled, "Zerubabel Digger and his shovel cannot leave the Nether Realm. I'm not sure how long he's been there, and I don't think he knows either. He re-digs a grave every day. Whether that grave is his, or someone else's, I don't know, but it always remains empty...and he says it will, until he gets lucky."

"He's an odd man. He helped train me when I was lost and confused teenager stumbling into the nether realm. A lot of lost things stumbled into the nether realm." Her smile sharpened slightly, "and that b***h of a shovel is how I lost my damn toe."

In a total loss of tact, Butterfly blinked and immediately looked at Ora's feet. "You're missing a toe? Wow, must be where Spring Lady got one of her extras..." She blinked again and started. "Uh." Looking up sheepishly, she amended, "Sorry. I mean, I'm sorry you lost your toe."

She rubbed her arms and said hesitantly, "You know... I don't know this one, not in the least, but that description makes it sound like he's either hoping someday for death's release... or, even more likely, that he's hoping he'll get lucky and someone he wants dead will blow through one of those doors. Perhaps the one who trapped him there, or someone he needs to kill or bury and trap in the same place in order to free himself. Or something like that."

Ora nodded, "I don't know either, which makes it interesting. Though I have a hard time seeing Digger wanting to kill anyone that badly. Perhaps death's release...but once again, can't be sure."

She let out a small sigh and glanced down at her foot. A boot covered it, but inside that boot her small toe was just a stub. "The shovel has a vicious personality, and is sentient. She liked to appear at random beneath my feet to make me fall down on my face. She was a horrible thing, and she hated me. Kind of like Patty hates me, but the shovel is meaner.

"She didn't hate me at first, but at first I wasn't aware she was anything more than a shovel named Charlene. Digger was trying to teach me some basic weaponry skills using his shovel. When I couldn't do the requested task I let out a loud rant that a shovel was not a weapon, would never be a weapon," Ora paused to chuckle, "the whole time Digger's face was going a bit pale as he tried to tell me to stop, saying something about Charlene and her temper. And then I went on to insult that particular shovel...rusted, ugly, what could it honestly do to anyone when it could barely dig a grave." Ora's smile went sharp, showing a bit of teeth, "And then she slipped right out of my hand, dropping like a heavy rock, and sliced off the top of my small toe with a quick snap of sound."

Butterfly's eyes went wide and she had a funny, awkward smile that showed her own teeth... and that she was torn between laughing and hissing in sympathy. She settled for saying, "Ouch. That... ouch. Really ouch. Never piss off a shovel, I guess... ow." She shook her head. "I can certainly see why you find them so interesting, though."

Butterfly blinked twice with a sudden thought. "Hey, Ora. This may be an odd question. Didn't you already have a weapon? A... sword of some such? I want to say Chinese, not that I know what one looks like."
PostPosted: Thu Nov 26, 2009 11:34 pm

"It was a lesson well learned." Ora said, glancing away from her boot. She quietly leaned back with a small smile. "Hmm, yes I did. A chinese sword. It was broken. It shattered when I tangled with someone who was far too powerful to tangle with. I was given the broken parts back, but I can't fix it, or use it. It's life in my hands has ended when I chose to fight a battle I shouldn't. It will have a life again, some day. It's ownership is granted only by being passed down from a teacher to a student. And it will be fixed and usable again, when I pass it down in turn. I still wait to know to whom I will pass the sword. But for now I keep it safe."

Butterfly looked fascinated. "Interesting. There until you learned a particular lesson, but shattered 'til you find the next who needs to learn... Interesting. Interesting."

She started to lay down on the rug again, then stopped. "Uhm. Well, look, you fascinate me and I've always wanted to meet you, so here we've been sitting and talking and I haven't offered you so much as water or a crust of bread. Would you like any food or drink, Ora?" Her face was a mixture of self-directed irritation and of embarrassment.

Ora let out a quick laugh, "I'm my father's daughter, I can go without food or water for a fair amount longer than a normal human. But I never say no to anything that's flavored with sour green-apple. Sour green-apple lollipops are one of my favorites. I also like the taffy, and the slushies."

She glanced over at the frozen Ruby, "We all tend to have our favorite little flavors."

Butterfly laughed a little at that. "Well, yes. But just because you can go without doesn't mean you should be expected to at all times. That's hardly hospitable, and I do like the idea of playing a good hostess." She smiled and rapped on the rock Ora was sitting on, and, with a wink, pulled at an invisible handle to show that it had turned into a small cabinet. "Stick your hand in there and pick what you want, and hopefully it'll show up in your hand. If I got it right, that is, and getting it wrong here is horribly unlikely."

She glanced over at Ruby herself with curiosity, then back at Ora. "That's part of it, isn't it? That's part of she gets to know you. Favorite flavors... favorite colors. Why." She paused for another moment and looked back at Ruby. "Why things are the way they are." She blinked and frowned. "Although, maybe strawberries go with reds and sour apple goes with green, and it's a tossup whether the flavor is due to the color or the color due to the flavor."
PostPosted: Fri Nov 27, 2009 12:27 am

Ora grinned, "The color sometimes plays into it, but only with Ruby and myself. We both have always been drawn to specific colors for specific reasons. I was raised to believe a green man was the sole purpose of my entire world. I wore green, I played with green toys, and I had my mother use food coloring to make my macaroni and cheese green. As for Ruby, she's always been connected to her three favorite colors, white, red and pink.

"The rest of them aren't nearly as obsessive on colors and food. Pen for instance, her favorite food is pumpkin, and her favorite color is violet, both of which she hid from view during her life in the Kore. Minerva is just a fan of pasta. Midna is a pineapple fan and likes orange. Sahira isn't particularly partial to a specific food though she can't cook it herself, and depends entirely on her husband to feed her...and her children screamed in terror when she tried to cook for them." Ora pulled out a sour apple candy stick with french writing on the wrapper.

Butterfly tried unsuccessfully to stifle a giggle at the idea of children screaming in fear of such cooking. "That's--oh, that's terrible. I won't claim to cook much well, but at least I'm not that bad. That's actually quite scary.

"Hm." She looked around speculatively and bit her bottom lip. "So... yeah, I guess it wouldn't change, even know that you know differently... I still like Arizona, after all, stupid as the reason was... huh." She looked up. "I'm out of questions for this particular moment. Which ones have you for me?"
PostPosted: Fri Nov 27, 2009 12:45 am

"I'm not so grand a cook either, I will grudgingly have to admit...in fact there was one moment Sahira and I tried to cook breakfast together. However, I believe I'm capable of learning to cook. I don't think she is...at least not earth food."

Ora tilted her head curiously, "Do you have a favorite? Of your characters, one that appeals to you the most?"
